The Original, Right-Wing Extremist (Guest Post)

One can reasonably presume how today’s Left would characterize and attack the person I am about to describe to you. Without a doubt, he would be characterized as some sort of dangerous, right-wing, tea-bagging, homophobic, Christian Neanderthal who should be maligned, attacked, marginalized, silenced, and driven from power.

Character assassination has become the weapon of choice for those who so forcefully peddle the liberal/progressive ideology. It is relentlessly used to silence all those who stand in opposition to the myriad of ‘isms’ they champion as they seek to “fundamentally transform” the country and society. I sincerely doubt they would spare him.

He was the commanding General of the Army and later a two-term president. Unwavering and dedicated, he had a deep-set of personal beliefs and never faltered from his chosen path.

He called morality “a necessary spring of popular government” and while in command of the army he ordered “vice and immorality of every kind discouraged.” Accustomed to undertaking daily devotions, he ordered worship for the army every Sunday and had twenty thousand Bibles imported for the troops. He even had the audacity to state “to the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.” Can you imagine how those who worship at the altar of the ‘separation of church and state’ would react to such actions and utterances?

He was devoted and married to the same woman his entire life and appears to have never fallen for the temptation of affairs or mistresses during his marriage. His army was probably the first in history to not have a large corp of camp followers filled with harlots and trollops following in its wake. He firmly forbade looting of any kind and quickly drummed out of the army those caught engaging in sodomy.

He was a staunch defender of the right individual to keep and bear arms. He declared that “a free people ought to be armed” and never challenged or questioned the right of individuals to privately own the most advanced firearms of the day.

So who was this man who championed such principles that stand in such stark contrast to modern-day liberals and Progressives?

His name was George Washington.

Discipline, honor, principle, self-reliance, and personal responsibility were all epitomized by George Washington and are deeply valued by the conservative movement. Sobriety and modesty, as well as interest in character and morals were championed by him in both public and private. Such values are timeless and are just as important today as they were then.

The man who could have been king of a new country instead helped birth a constitutional Republic. It is our job as conservatives to protect and defend the ideals of that Republic from those who seek to dismantle it and protect and preserve the traditions and values of Western Civilization that have been passed down to us. Conservatism is no “Johnny come lately” political ideology, but one that was, in reality and in practice, championed by the Father of our country and whose roots and fundamental principles run back all the way to the very beginning of Western Civilization.

The fact is that all the various political or ideological graphs and lines, for some reason, put those who believe in small government, constitutional governance, traditional values, and free enterprise over to the “far right” of the American political spectrum and attempt to infer that it is an extreme position are fundamentally flawed. Instead, that should be the starting, middle point of the American ideological spectrum.

For that is where most of the Founders of the country including George Washington would be found. Instead, it is all ideologies and isms that champion corporatism, globalism, the mainstreaming of homosexuality, socialism, the dismantling of traditional marriage and the nuclear family unit, and disrespect for the fundamental sanctity of innocent human life that are in fact the extremes and should be portrayed as such. For they are the positions that stray from the path, morals, values, and ideals of the founding of the Republic. It is they who pose the danger to the fundamental character, ideals, and beliefs that this country was founded upon.

The man who was “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen” and called the “Father of his country” even during his lifetime is one that should be emulated in many ways. Yet such a man today, in the eyes of liberalism, would be one worthy of derision and condemnation. Not all ideologies are of equal worth, and I’ll gladly stand by one practiced by George Washington, the “original, right-wing extremist.”

Pitch perfect for George Washington’s birthday, which is coming up on Feb. 22nd.
Here in Utah we don’t have ”President’s Day.”
It is called “Washington and Lincoln Day.”
I thought this was interesting the ”Day” has many different names!

President’s Day in Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Tennessee, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming
Lincoln/Washington/Presidents’ Day in Arizona
George Washington’s Birthday and Daisy Gatson Bates Day in Arkansas
Presidents’ Day in Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Vermont
Washington’s Birthday/President’s Day in Maine, Presidents Day in Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, and Oregon
Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthday in Montana
Recognition of the birthday of George Washington in North Dakota
Washington and Lincoln Day in Utah
George Washington Day in Virginia

Notice is is only a day for ALL presidents in a very few states: Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Arizona, and Vermont

I’m sure there is one president who will picture himself for the Official White House President’s Day photo, aren’t you?

My favorite president.

He certainly held many views that were considered to be liberal and progressive in fact revolutionary in his own time

There’s a long tradition of outlier political groups trying to claim Washington as their own. The German-American Bund tried to claim him as the first fascist. Political groups try to claim Washington, Lincoln, and even Jesus, as though they have at some point received their official letters of endorsement. I think all those people’s words and lives can speak well enough for what they believed without modern revision or reinterpretation.

President Washington, I recall, put down a tax rebellion by force.

Seriously what is SO EXTREME about any of these ideals??

“Discipline, honor, principle, self-reliance, and personal responsibility were all epitomized by George Washington and are deeply valued by the conservative movement. How did ideals so honorable evolve into ideals that are now considered “evil” not attainable, dismissed, and excused away ? (by liberals of course) As much as “MLK’s judging by the content of one’s Character” has evolved to the point of being dismissed? (by liberals of course)

Just shows how we keep being lead down a road..down a path, by liberals and progressives to ultimate and serious oppression and Government tyranny…

WAKE UP AMERICA!

@Greg:

Typical leftist dishonesty, twisting things out of context to disparage opponents. Classic example of standard lack of integrity inherent in leftists.

President Washington sought to resolve this dispute peacefully. In 1792, he issued a national proclamation admonishing westerners for their resistance to the “operation of the laws of the United States for raising revenue upon spirits distilled within the same.”2 However, by 1794 the protests became violent. In July, nearly 400 whiskey rebels near Pittsburgh set fire to the home of John Neville, the regional tax collection supervisor. Left with little recourse and at the urgings of Secretary Hamilton, Washington organized a militia force of 12,950 men and led them towards Western Pennsylvania, warning locals “not to abet, aid, or comfort the Insurgents aforesaid, as they will answer the contrary at their peril.”

Name a single event of a tea party member engaging in violence and/or criminal activity. Compare that with the criminal and violent acts that the Occupy leftists were doing…with the violence of the ALF and Earth First thugs…and the deliberate violence committed by the “Black Block” anarcholeftist scum.

Trying to equate our greatest president with the excessive taxation leftists of today, couple with the effort to link the violent insurrectionists of the Whiskey Rebellion with the modern day Tea Party movement is the standard lying propaganda to which the left resorts when they wish to misdirect from the failure of their progressive policies.

@Pete, #6:

Name a single event of a tea party member engaging in violence and/or criminal activity.

Name the point at which I mentioned the Tea Party. I illustrated my point with the German American Bund, which I presume we both can agree was extremist.

Another little tidbit: He voluntarily stepped down after two terms. He could have stayed as long as he liked, but he understood the perils of men staying in power too long, including himself, and stepped aside. That’s greatness, not sniveling everyday about how nobody wants to work with you, and threatening tantrums every time you don’t get your way.

We’ve gone from greatness to the toilet. What a shame.

@Greg:

With your implication that current opposition to Obama is analogous to the German Bund, you should be able to see how the inference was attained, given that tbe strongest opposition to Obama’s policies comes from tea party groups.

@Greg#4 George Washington had far far far far far far fewer ‘faults’ than your dear leader ‘the I Won’…

….Obama sounds and acts very amateurish in comparison doesn’t he? But, he is tough when he has Secret Service Men and Marines around him…

The article posits an imaginary attack on George Washington by “today’s Left,” and then uses this as evidence that the nation’s first president would surely have been sympathetic with the right, or the Tea Party, or whatever, which presumably embody all of his values and principles. (If not his clarity of thought.)

There has been no such attack. None of the objectionable characterizations that are listed have been attributed to George Washington by the left. There’s nothing reasonable about presuming they would be. The words “Without a doubt” do not automatically make whatever claim that follow them true.

@JimmyJack:

We’ve gone from greatness to the toilet.

Yes and the toilet has the name ‘Zippy’ on the door.

Actually, it gets worse: Think Progress calls Washington “The Tea Party’s Worst Nightmare” because he wanted a more decisive Congress during the War of Independence and signed Hamilton’s National Bank bill. At least they recognize that the Hamiltonian-Jeffersonian tension continues … and guess which side they’re on?

Please don’t reply. I almost never check this email account for mail, and will likely never know you wrote.

I just happened upon the post on George Washington titled “The Original, Right-Wing Extremist,” and thought I’d comment: Obviously the writer (“Dave the Sage” is it?) is gifted. It’s short, concise, informative, and succeeds in swiftly making a point. This writer should shower the Internet with his written works. One piece of advice: Each statement made as to something Washington did needs a footnote citing the reference for the information. Without the sources backing up the statements, the piece is unusable. Unusable at least unless we who would pass it along or quote it or recommend it first go and immerse ourselves in extensive “homework” ourselves, to first be sure it is all verifiable. So, here sits an otherwise very useful article, with the wheels off. It can’t “go” anywhere, that is, can’t be used among serious or knowledgeable people, while missing the “sources,” the “authority” for each statement. That said, I hope this writer is out there “avalanching” the country with his gifts. Carry on!
