Nope. Imo, he was treated worse.

Political rancor and hatred as old as politics.
–State Senator, Louise Lucas
There’s nothing unique to any disrespect shown to the current president. Certainly it isn’t the color of President Obama’s skin that drives the political opposition to his presidency. Yet so many of his supporters can’t seem to fathom how their Dear Leader (see what I just did there?) can be so disrespected. It certainly perplexes Obama sycophants like Chris Matthews.
But how, then, could anyone explain the reception to John Kerry’s candidacy in 2004, when the Massachusetts patrician fared worse with white voters than did the black kid from Hawaii in his historic campaign four years later?
Kerry, indeed, experienced much the same pattern across ethnic lines as all Democrats do, with big majorities among communities of color—88 percent of blacks, 56 percent of Asians—and a pathetic showing among the white majority, losing that group by 17 points to George W. Bush, five points more than Obama’s margin of white rejection in 2008. Do liberal true believers suggest that racist voters harbored some secret fear that John Forbes Kerry was African-American?
The racism-explains-it-all theory ignores the true nature of Obama’s resounding victory in 2008, which suggests strongly that his racial identity worked to his advantage, not to his detriment. Among white voters, he performed at least as well as other recent Democratic candidates, even drawing four points more, 43 to 39 percent, than good ol’ boy Bill Clinton did his three-way race in 1992. But it was among blacks, Latinos, and Asians that Obama vastly outperformed his Democratic predecessors, besting their performance by about 10 points with each ethnic group and building enough of a margin to win the presidency. In other words, Obama’s status as a barrier-busting nominee and a racial outsider made him no less popular among whites and considerably more popular among everyone else.
Remember when Jonathan Chait criticized Bush for exercising too much?

Would you believe Obama said this?
Obama:
Maybe some people are cursed with good memory.
The media certainly tries to hide stuff like this.
But it does add to why so many people who have good memory despise Obama.
Would it be more acceptable to say he is despised for his white half?
LOL.
Look, it’s his two-facedness.
It’s his lies.
It’s he policies.
His color is beside the point.

DrJohn’s Law
The right acts as if Obama is some sort of dictator, ignoring the constitution and exercising power to an unprecedented degree by way of executive orders.
A somewhat different perspective: The GOP’s Dead-End Executive Order Freakout
The numerical count, of course, isn’t necessarily the most relevant factor. The nature of the executive orders matters more.
So, name the specific executive orders Barack Obama has issued that are particularly extreme—more so than any issued by George W Bush, for example—and explain why.
Some people suggest that conservatives have lost their sense of perspective. Others suggest that they’ve totally lost touch with reality.
Greg
IT’S NOT THE EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER WHICH COUNT IN HERE, THIS NOT RELEVANT,

I thought it was very telling that the House is not going to deal with immigration reform this year, or maybe for the next three years BECAUSE they cannot trust Obama to carry out faithfully the laws regarding immigration already on the books now.
He is not to be trusted with any more power.
He abuses all of it he gets or can finagle himself into.
And this has nothing to do with his color…….
42 blacks in the House.
15 Asian Americans in the House.
30 Hispanics in the House.
@DrJohn: Perhaps the problem is this; liberals hate by instinct. They do it naturally and, perhaps, don’t even realize it when they are doing it. Like mashing an ant or kicking a rock, it is just something they do, subconsciously, as they go about their day.
Then, when they see something they worship getting pummeled with criticism, they see nothing but hate because, when they attack, it is because of hate. Hate and racism and prejudice. It is in their DNA and they hardly notice it as they do it.
Perhaps it is why so many of the mass killers are liberals. They value the values of others so little.
@Greg: In my mind, the worst is this one: enacting the Dream Act by EO. The worst because this law had been rejected by Congress twice. This means OUR representatives did what the assumed WE wanted… twice. And then Obama just whipped out his pen and decided we didn’t know what the hell we wanted.
After that comes, of course, his massive hypocrisy on his own law. 29 times he has changed the law… substantially. And, every change has been for one purpose; to ease the political pain its full enactment would have on him and his party. Enact the f*****g thing, if it’s so damn good for everybody.
Really, Greg; you can’t see that?
If you seriously believe that Bush was treated worse than Obama, you are seriously politically ignorant, suffer from a memory dysfunction, or profoundly deranged, on every front.
It isn’t even close.
Bush’s popularity declined as we learned his incompetence, rose as the nation stood behind him after the worst assault on American soil in history(under his watch) and then watch him squander that trust to hit a record low rating.
You guys hated Obama’s gut from the word go, even supporting the Tea Party with their disrespectful terrorist theories just 2 weeks after his 1st inauguration. Hell, you guys even hailed Joe Wilson as a hero for screaming “you lie” at Obama’s first State of The Union Address.
America gave Dub a chance. You guys would never ever, under any circumstances, regardless if he came out with a sure fired cure for cancer, give the black president credit for anything, ever. And you know this.
Unfortunately for the liberal cause, Joe Wilson has been proven to be very accurate with his accusation…..
@Bobachek: 2 points; actually, he wasn’t. Another, it has simply never been nor should it be acceptable behavior from people with any dignity, self-discipline, or an iota of class to display their intense hatred and anger at such a formal and prestigious event towards the speaker who happens to be the people’s choice as leader of the greatest country on God’s green earth.
Perhaps Joe would have been better suited for what you guys depict as occupiers?
Back to the argument, was GWB treated that way at his SOTUA?
Ronald J. Ward
YOU JUST PUT YOUR OWN PROFILE ON THE PREVIOUS COMMENT,
ignorant suffer from a memory disfunction and profundly derange,
I WILL ADD LESS BRAIN POWER THAN AN ASS NOT SURE WHERE TO GO PISS,
ENDING UP PISSING ON HIS FEET,
Well Mr. Ward apparently you have not been the lucky recipient of a letter canceling your health insurance which is unfortunate because at the moment I can’t think of anyone more deserving.
As for this Presidents treatment, you get the respect that you earn not what you think you deserve. You should think about that one for a little bit…
@Ronald J. Ward:
You know, RJW, you would actually be funny if you were not so damn dishonest.
Let’s take a look at approval ratings today and on February 13, 2006:
Today – Obama Approval 42.3% Disapproval 53%
2/13/05 – Bush Approval 42.4% Disapproval 52.4%
Well what do you know, although they are almost equal, Bush was approved of more than Obama is.
As to Bush setting a disapproval record, nah, I think that belongs to Harry Truman. But why would I expect you to know that? You seem to know so little, well, that is, except for your expertise in teabagging.
Oh, and get back to us when CodePinko starts marching with placards of a beheaded Obama like they marched with placards of a beheaded George W. Bush.
People make mistakes.
All the time.
But only Obama (with Eric Holder’s help) would bring the entire weight of the state secrets privilege to cover up a mistake.
The Facts:
Rahinah Ibrahim, a Malaysian citizen, went to the San Francisco airport to board a flight to Hawaii to deliver a paper at a conference. She was not allowed to board; instead she was detained, handcuffed and eventually allowed to depart, first to Hawaii and then to her native Malaysia. She has never been permitted to return to the United States.
Ms. Ibrahim was on the federal no-fly list, identified as a possible terrorist. She sued the federal government for damages and injunctive and declaratory relief.
Obama fought tooth and nail to prevent Ibrahim from learning the facts surrounding her classification as a possible terrorist.
Eric Holder supported this.
BUT…. the truth eventually came out…….
Ms. Ibrahim was put on the no-fly list by an FBI agent named Kevin Kelley.
Kelley testified that the whole thing was a mistake: he had inadvertently checked the wrong box when filling out a form on Ms. Ibrahim; in fact, he had filled out the form in exactly the opposite manner from that prescribed by the instructions.
So Ibrahim’s presence on the no-fly list was a matter of clerical error.
To quote her judge, “I feel that I have been had by the government.”
Obama and Holder were disgraceful in their handing of the Ibrahim case.
Once the issue of standing was resolved, there was no good reason not to acknowledge the clerical error that had been made, and fix it.
@Bill Burris, #14:
The Dream Act wasn’t enacted by executive order. It has never been enacted at all. Obama ordered changes in administrative policy that are within the limits of his authority as Chief Executive.
As I see it, he has been doing what is necessary to effectuate the Affordable Care Act as quickly as possible. That has required that some things happen incrementally. It’s unreasonable to expect that so complex a body of changes would suddenly come into full effect overnight.
The website initially didn’t work. With the passage of a couple of months, it is. Enrollments were initially low. Now the count is up to some 3.3 million. Republicans should be doing so well at rolling out their alternative. If they ever do, I’d be pleased to discover that they’ve actually put together something better. I don’t think their most recent effort is going to fly.
They could focus on useful changes. Except, of course, that they don’t want any useful changes. They want it not to work. They don’t want an effective health insurance system so much as they want to win elections. They don’t want a sound economy so much as they want to win elections.
AND HOW MANY MORE WHERE RUIN FOR THEIR DANGEROUS AGENDA
AND BEHAVIOR WHICH IS CRIMINAL
@Ronald J. Ward: Yeah, I seriously think Bush was treated more harshly than Obama . Look at the images provided. There are entire websites full of the same. Some of the treatments of Obama that have been loudly protested are actually treatments of Bush applied to Obama (the Joker image is an example). Bush was slammed for being “stupid” from the beginning… from the beginning of the Presidential campaign. And it only intensified when the 8 year extension of the Clinton dynasty ala Al Gore was denied the liberals.
Bush only got a respite of a few months after 9/11 (Clinton’s legacy) but once the next election neared, the left could not contain itself and the accusations of war mongering and profiteering erupted.
A personal observation; while putting Christmas decorations away in 2010, I noticed something strange. I was packing away ornaments in old newspapers; the Dallas Morning News from 2007. What caught my attention was the full page presentation of the war dead for the year. This struck me because there had been no such presentation in 2009. Why not, I wondered? Were the dead less worthy of recognition and remembrance that year, or was there simply no more political justification for rubbing the war dead into the face of the American public with a liberal President at the helm? Where was Cindy “suddenly I love and mourn my son now that his death can obscenely extend my 15 minutes of fame” Sheehan? Were were the protests? Apparently, the left didn’t really care about the American lives; they only wanted to use them as a political weapon against a Republican President. That’s the difference (or, one of them) of treatment. That’s the left for you.
As to Joe “you lie” Wilson, you forget, Ronald, what provoked that outburst. Lost among all of the many, many lies Obama has shamelessly told since he began running for office, the specific one that elicited that response should be noted. Obama had just promised that illegal immigrants would not gain medical coverage through Obamacare. That was when Joe uttered is rude, yet accurate, accusation. For, as he, Joe Wilson, knew, there had been no mechanism emplaced in Obamacare to prevent illegal immigrants from applying for and gaining taxpayer funded medical coverage. We now know that this is an absolute fact.
America, indeed, gave Bush a chance. The left, however, never did. They hated him because he was not an elitist and he repeatedly defeated elitists. The shameless left would rather put our national security at risk than allow Bush to succeed. Yet he succeeded in spite of the left. Obama is criticized because he is a failure. He set the expectations sky-high by lying about anything and everything and never even came within sight of achieving a single one. Those like you would endeavor to mask that failure with excuses related to racism. This kind of aversion to personal accountability is why the left continues to fail.
@Greg: He did, with his pen, what I said he did. Further, he has been manipulating his signature law to avoid the negative effects of its failure from getting all over him just as I said he has. There were absolutely no errors in my evaluation. None.
3.3 million have signed up; that is not the same as having gotten policies. We don’t even know and can’t even tell how many actually have coverage. Meanwhile, 6 million have been kicked off of policies they already had. That, Ronald, is a net loss. Further, the infamous CBO report states that even 10 years from now, the effort to insure the 30 million that do not have insurance will only have…. 30 million to go in order to claim success. And it will only cost $2 trillion.
Bill Burris
fantastic as always,
thank you,THAT IS CLASS, QHALITY, EXPRTIZE, INTEGRITY
AND TRUTH, ALL IN ONE COMMENT,
@Greg:
I didn’t bring up executive orders. I guffaw at the hypocrisy. Criticizing his predecessor for “ignoring the Constitution and exercising” executive authority to “an unprecedented degree.”
Did Bush go through Congress and go to the UN before acting on Iraq? And Obama in regards to Libya? So who’s the unilateral cowboy, again?
What could President Obama mean when in his 2014 SotU Address, he says,
@Ronald J. Ward:
You must be describing your own derangement.
It isn’t even close.
Bush enjoyed popularity prior to 9/11?! Really?! Your side hated him since before day one:
And you have the gall to accuse others here of “memory dysfunction”? Talk about selective:
As demonstrated above, your side wrote the book on that one. As for myself? Here’s how I mistreated President Obama on day one. A number of mainstream conservatives were moved by the glass-ceiling breaking nature of Obama’s election, even as they opposed what he stood for, politically.
How did the Bush WH treat the incoming administration? With professionalism and class. How did Clinton staffers treat the incoming Bush “regime”? ……Yuuuuuup.
The machinations and planning of which happened under Clinton’s watch. What’s your point? That if it were 9 months into an Al Gore presidency, 9/11 would have been averted?
Keep in mind also that Carl Levin personally held up confirmation hearings for key national security Bush appointees. Partisanship and political brinksmanship over patriotism, right? Some of those on your side of the aisle wrote the book.
There are many Tea Party organizations. But to what “disrespectful terrorist theories just 2 weeks after his 1st inauguration” do you refer?
And you guys hailed Joe Wilson as a hero for screaming President Bush lied and people died.
Is there any particular reason you felt the need to mention “black” president and not just the president?
You seriously need to get past your partisan blinders. There’s nothing uniquely special about the partisan hatred of the current president and that of partisan hatred toward the last president, or even that expressed toward Clinton (Impeachment proceedings, anyone?). Any conspiracy theories toward Clinton? Toward Bush? So why expect anything different today? Does President Obama’s melanin count guarantee that he has a God-given right to innoculation from criticism and wild conspiracies and political hatred and vitriol? Why should he be anymore exempt than his predecessors?
@Ronald J. Ward:
Did you even bother to watch the video? Here it is again (at least the part relevant to you):
Is that disrespect? Oh, of course not. President Bush is white. Only if he were black. [/sarcasm]
Good grief! Get over the race card!
Harry Reid has called Bush a loser and a liar. Is that showing respect to the office of the presidency? I bet he wouldn’t dare had Bush been black.
@Greg:
Greg, that’s not entirely honest. It’s a partisan way of looking at the reasons why the opposition.
Sure, there are some partisans that hate the other side so much that they’d rather put politics over patriotism. I’d say Hillary, Reid, and Pelosi easily fall into that camp and category. There are a number of those on your side who played politics with every flag-draped coffin, every Iraqi civilian casualty count, etc. to the point of cheerleading it.
But I also accept that there were those who honestly highlighted the negative news not because it meant a blow to the Bush agenda, but because they earnestly felt the Bush agenda was the wrong direction for the country and harmful.
These same partisans would then give Obama a pass for embracing a number of things that they criticized Bush over.
Both sides play the game of politics.
If a number of conservatives seemingly don’t want to “help make Obamacare work”, it’s because they honestly feel it is bad legislation for the country and ultimately harmful and the wrong way to go.
When someone like Rush Limbaugh says he wants Obama to fail, it’s not because he’s cheerleading America to fail. It’s that he feels that in order for the country to win, Obama’s agenda needs to fail because it is harmful. I remember once hearing Ann Coulter clarify the point on tv by saying she’d love for Obama to succeed; but that in order for him to do that, he’d have to govern as a conservative.
@Bill Burris: Great points!
You wrote:
To be fair, Code Pink, Medea Benjamin, and Sheehan have been pretty consistent in their criticism. They still oppose the war(s). It’s the media that’s moved on, not giving the peaceniks the same level of attention that they so delivered on when it was a president with the scarlet letter “R” next to his name, running things.
DHHS announced that enrollment in the Obamacare private exchanges increased by 1,146,071 in January. In December, HHS reported 1,788,000 enrollees in the month of December. That suggests a drop-off of approximately 500,000, or 29 percent.
BUT it gets worse!
The HHS reporting period for December was four weeks.
The reporting period for January was five weeks.
That means the REAL drop-off rate was 49 percent drop-off in new enrollees.
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obamacare-enrollment-rate-slows-markedly-january_781553.html
And, as has been said quite a few times…..
An ”enrollee,” is merely a shopper with an item in his web cart.
Over 80% of all web carts are abandoned.
The insurers say Jay Carney lied when he claimed he cannot know how many have actually paid.
Oh, yes, he can.
He just doesn’t want to tell.
@Wordsmith:
Obama’s black?
Isn’t that like asking someone the old question: “Is the glass is half empty or half full?” and having them say “It’s full!”?
Just saying…
@Wordsmith:
Good point, Wordsmith. So while we were bombarded with every death of every American soldier in both Iraq and Afghanistan during Bush’s presidency, where are we now? No photographs of flag draped coffins returning home, although ten American soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan just this past month. No body counts. No screams for the war to end from all the left wing talking heads. Remember, the war in Afghanistan was the “good” war, the war worth fighting, as so Obama told us while he campaigned.
But you also cannot ignore that while the left believed that Obama would “win” those wars, and now know that victory is not part of his dialog, there also seems to be little reporting on the failure that has been Obama’s foreign policy toward Iraq, with Al Qaeda now controlling much of what we paid for in blood and treasure. Fallujah, hard fought, and hard won, is now in the hands of the enemy. And Afghanistan? Do a body count since Obama took office which doubled in his first year. Meanwhile, after all that blood spilled there by American soldiers, and all the billions of dollars poured into that nation, Kharzi is now telling the Obama administration to pound sand and the administration seems helpless to do anything about it.
And what was our first clue that Obama would be a failure in the foreign policy arena? Tiny, poor Honduras where Obama, and Hillary Clinton, backed the Chavez wannabe, not the Honduran Congress who wanted free, fair elections and a chance for democracy in their country.
Because that is all the left has. Name one thing that Obama has been successful at, except for pushing his Socialist ideals by pen and by phone. His foreign policy? A shamble, turning his back on the one true Middle East ally we have. Domestic policy? Obamacare a disaster, so to the point that the administration can’t even be truthful about the number of people who have actually PAID for their Obamacare (you don’t own it until you pay for it); the number of millennials who have signed up for it that are expected to bear the brunt of the cost; the bogus unemployment rate that is achieved only because so many millions have been dropped from the work force rolls; the high number of families now on food stamps and the shameful increase of the number of those who are collecting SSDI; this list is too numerous to mention here.
We don’t dislike Obama because he is half black, we dislike Obama because he is totally red. The promise of the most “open and transparent” administration EVAH, has turned into a secret organization where information is withheld even under law suits, where American soldiers are slaughtered on their own home soil by a Soldier of Allah and it is called “work place violence”; where our Border Patrol and ICE are actually delivering minor illegals to their illegal parents; where Muslim Brotherhood activists from the UK are greeted like royalty at the White House; where the IRS is used as a political gestapo to go after the President’s enemies; data is lied about, including the number of unemployed and the number of have actually signed up for Obamacare by paying the premium that is required; where the administration refuses to enforce actual enacted laws.
Your rebuttal to RJW and Greg was superb. My hat’s off to you, sir. But I fear it falls on deaf ears. Like the proletariat who believed that the politburo were their friends, they too, have bought into the lies. One can only assume that they have not yet learned that Socialism is not for the “little” people, it is only for the Socialist who pushes it and will reap the benefits from it by being part of the politburo.
@Wordsmith:
Nice
@Bobachek:
Again, 2 points. That argument gives a false impression that people that received cancellation notices were without coverage when in fact, most were rolled over into a new plan. Here’s an example of the typical cancellation notice. And those glitches (which the GOP absolutely refuses to help correct) don’t compare to the close to 10 million now with insurance either through their parents plan, expansion of Medicaid, or through sign ups. And if you recall, the GOP alternative was for those folks to just “go home and die” as confirmed by Ron Paul during the primary debates, cheered by conservatives, and gathered the “silent” endorsement of the rest of the party.
Another area is that as I’ve mentioned, Obama was hated from the very beginning and the “not keeping one’s insurance” came much later, making your argument specious. Obama was inaugurated Jan 20 of 2009 and by mid Feb the Tea Party were out with their disrespectful signs and innuendos while chanting some silliness of “take our country back” and howling about lower taxes while enjoying the lowest taxes in 65 years.
@Bill Burris: No, Joe wasn’t even accurate. President Obama said: “
If any of you have actually read HR3200 or have tuned to an unbiased news sources (I mean, you’re just not going to hear this from Hannity, Savage, or unhinged web sites), it excludes undocumented immigrants. The non-partisan Congressional Research Service agreed that if people were here illegally, they weren’t qualified. Politifact rated Joe’s comment as “false”.
As far as “lying” and respect at a SOTUA, being against the Iraq invasion from the beginning, I’ll never forget GWB’s 2003 Address when he invoked “Saddam’s rape rooms and torture chambers and children’s prisons” as justification to slaughter 1000s of our your men and drain our resources. At that very time in history, Bush made it clear the US had no interest in the Dufar genocide where the Janjaweed militia were burning villages and raping at will, pulling babies from screaming mother’s arms and tossing them in bon fires. Only women could sneak out at night to get fire wood as they would only be gang raped and their noses slashed where men and boys would have been promptly killed. How’s that for “You lie”?
@Wordsmith: When your response consist of something like “You must be describing your own derangement”, it doesn’t say much for your argumentative skills or an ability to argue with substance. It’s kind of an admission that the dog ate your homework or that you simply rely on elementary tactics akin to that of Redteam.
Do the protest n 2001 surprise you? When a President is appointed rather than elected, there will certainly be emotions.
The hypocrisy of blaming Obama for his inherited ruined economy while the GOP has intentionally and admittedly sabotaged any effort of recovery while you are insistent of exonerating Bush of the 9/11 attacks is truly amazing. Do you ever even look at what you actually argue?
Yes, I believe Obama’s race plays a significant role in the festered hatred many on the right has towards him.
Some while back, I visited a hack site called TheReaganiteRepublican. The site was giving a “Patriots Award” to a guy flipping the bird with both hands at Obama’s campaign bus as it went by. Someone commented “there were two fingers. One for you. And one for your ‘wife'”. The moderator came back with “EXACTLY” in caps. I couldn’t get an explanation of how it’s patriotic to flip off the First Lady. She doesn’t set policy, sign legislation, or even vote in the legislation process. But, the response was “EXACTLY” correct that it was meant for her, as if the one commenting caught something that the others missed, or some meaning that flew over the others heads. If one wants to assigned some award for patriotism for saying “screw you” for the way they’re running our government” or “the harmful policies they’re implementing” or “what they’re doing to our country”, I can at least understand their argument. But obviously, or perhaps “exactly”, that wasn’t the argument at all. The moderator never had the courage to address it.
The arguments of right wing blogs don’t stand up to scrutiny. I think the underlying problems the right has with Obama’s vacations and the family dog and Michelle’s dresses is that you don’t believe they are “entitled” or as deserving as their predecessors, that perhaps, they really don’t belong in the White House. This often eventually comes out in public conversations, water cooler chats, or family gatherings among those that simply can’t stand the Obama’s. They have the very same arguments you have, fail to rationalize them as you do, and they eventually admit their real reasons. And I’ve heard some very very ugly comments come out when their preferred arguments fail the smell test.
Now, is Obama’s color the reason of “all” Tea Partiers or right wing bloggers abject hatred of Obama? No. How many? Well, there’s really no way of knowing. But based on conversations out in the field, listening to individuals, and how they’re consistent with the festered and unwarranted hatred I read on sites like FA, I’d say that it’s indeed a significant driver.

@Nanny G: Actually, what’s telling is Sen Schumer’s challenge to pass legislation with language to implement it in 2016, after Obama is gone. That called the GOP’s bluff and sent them scrambling for cover, exposing their dishonesty yet again.
@ Word,
Public officials are going to be called stupid, an idiot, wrong, etc. That’s about 90% of what both Bush and Obama have taken and it’s just part of the game. Bush has certainly received his fair share of attacks that crossed the line. I won’t dispute that. Bush has been called a war criminal on numerous occasions and a murderer. There were calls for his impeachment or imprisonment. Of course the same has been said for Obama, for example with Benghazi. A not insignificant difference is that Bush was accused of murdering Iraqis, while with Obama, it’s Americans.
Bush was often called a puppet of Dick Cheney. Obama’s been called a puppet of many different people: George Soros, Valerie Jarrett, the Muslim Brotherhood. Again, I point out the crucial difference that with Cheney, there’s no insinuation that he’s an anti-American trying to destroy the US, while with Obama’s alleged puppet-masters, there’s more than insinuation.
I think what you seem to be overlooking is the large category of attacks on Obama that are unique to Obama and somewhat unprecedented. Obama is not Christian/He is a secret Muslim. He is not American/He is an agent sent to destroy America. This is the tip of the iceberg, and these are not fringe conspiracies. These are accusations made and propagated by mainstream Republicans and right-leaning pundits and media organizations:
Many GOP voters doubt Obama is U.S. citizen

Conservatives more likely to think Obama is Muslim now than in 2008:
This stuff isn’t coming from the type of people holding those placards above. I would say 30% of Republicans thinking Obama is a Muslim is way beyond fringe. If we expand to more fringy attacks, the attacks explode exponentially:

Obama once aided the mujahideen
Obama is in the pocket of the Muslim Brotherhood
Obama redecorated the Oval Office in Middle Eastern style
Obama married a Pakistani guy
Obama was a Black Panther
Obama is the son of Malcolm X
Obama caused the recession—in 1995
Obama personally caused Hurricane Sandy
Obama is the Antichrist
Incidentally, there aren’t very many theories on the Mother Jones list that I haven’t read in the Flopping Aces comments threads. Make of that what you will. I think you’d be hard pressed to find any equivalent to the popularity and the breadth of these conspiracy theories in GWB’s Presidency, or really any other. This stuff is pretty unprecedented.
So what exactly is the end game of all this? Well, I think the common thread of all the Conservative attacks on Obama is a systematic, concerted attempt to brand him as “other”, as an outsider. Obviously, as the Pew Research results show, the Right has been phenomenally successful. But to what end? I think the reason is to undermine his Presidency,which is in essence, undermining the American government he currently leads. If you delegitimize the President, you no longer need to recognize him as such, or the State. You can fearmonger your base into stockpiling weapons for the inevitable war against the government. If you’re a Republican Governor, you can ignore the law of the land and not implement the ACA. It’s not pretty.
Liberals Hate, They Hated Bush Because he was White
Does this read like a rhetorical exaggeration? Yes, it does, but this is one sentence; Conservatives have been listening to this type of foolish hyperbole for over five years.
We have an arrogant, incompetent ideologue in the White House, and the only defense the Left has is to say he is Black and those who resist are racist; this is the rhetorical exaggeration of the century.
TOM
it seem that is a payback for the poison he serve to PRESIDENT BUSH,
WHAT GOES AROUND COME BACK AROUND,
I remember the indoctrination on the citizens against PRESIDENT BUSH,
it was on the street on the car in the school in the radio in the web in the blog ,in the house of all the people by way of OBAMA speeches,EVEN BEFORE HE WAS ELECTED
a never ending litany to cover his own lack of leadership,TOM YOU DON’T REMEMBER IT, HE WON ON THE BUSH HE ATTACKS,
BECAUSE HE HAD NOTHING TO SHOW AND HIDDING THE REST,
ONE DIFFERENCE IS THAT BUSH ATTACKS CAME FROM THE DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP INDDOCTRINATION BY REPEATING IT ALL THE TIME LIKE A BROKEN MACHINE
WHILE
AS OPPOSE TO THE ATTACKS ON OBAMA COMING FROM HIS OWN DECISIONS AND LAWS , AND ACTIONS, HE LOVE TO USE HIS POWER FOR IMPLIMENTING IT TO BE OBEYED BY THE PEOPLE
WHILE STEPPING ON THE CONSTITUTION, WHICH IRRITATED
ALL THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW, THOU SHALL NOT STEP ON THE LAWS OF THE LAND,
THOU SHALL NOT FORSAKE GOD,
WHO SAID HE IS A JEALOUS GOD AND HAS THE POWER
TO PUT DOWN THOSE WHO OBEY THE DEVIL AND HIS TROUPS, WITH CABALISTIC ACTIONS OVER HIS CROWD,
DANCING AN UNINTERUPTED DANCE TO CALL ON THE FORCES
OF THE DEADS IN HELL, TO HELP HIM WIN POWER
@Tom: I did not realize that CBS and USAToday were conservative media, Tom.
Actually, they’re not.
So, for them to skew a poll so as to tell America what they want Americans to think about ”conservatives” is pretty absurd.
@Nanny G:
So now the polls are skewed? Add another theory to the list. For the record, neither outlet did the polling. Are you stating that the Pew Research Center is making up polling data? Anyway’s I find it odd that you push back. considering some of the theories you’ve floated.
BTW, on the Mother Jones page there is a link to a conservative source for every single one of the Obama conspiracy theories.
@Tom: Maybe skewed was too strong a word…..
There were a total of 3003 polled.
Of that only 942 were Republicans.
Of that only a small unidentified number called themselves ”conservatives.”
Of those some thought Obama a Muslim.
That’s a tiny sub-sample.
Even one more self-labeled ”conservative Republican” person saying that can send the number up.
@Ronald J. Ward:
Sorry, buddy. That was part of the case in building public support. But it was not the primary grounds for finishing what hadn’t ended. National security interest was. Which is why:
Bush did about as much as any president (including the current PotUS) in regards to the situation in Darfur; and more than any in regards to Africa as a whole.
You didn’t point out a lie. You pointed out a supposed “hypocrisy” or “If one region of the world, why not another?”
Are you saying Saddam had no “rape rooms and torture chambers”? Are you sh**ting me?
In regards to why Iraq and not the Darfur region,
-Did Darfur ever invade its neighbor and subsequently have a coalition of forces repel its attack?
-Was it ever in a Cease-Fire Agreement, subsequently violating said Agreement, and followed up with 16 UNSCRs and violations that needed to be enforced to mean anything?
-Was Darfur a sworn enemy of the U.S., who never believed the 1st war over invasion ever ended? Who daily shot at U.S. and British planes over an established no-fly zone?
-Did the “Darfur regime” ever express desire, possession, use of, past history, and future intent of WMD?
-Was Darfur a state-sponsor of exported terrorism?
-in a post 9/11 world, was there a possibility of a WMD-loving, U.S.-hating warlord in Darfur using Islamic jihadis as proxy to deliver a wmd-terror attack?
Please read the Iraq War Resolution Authorizing the Use of Force, delivered by Congress.
Please refresh yourself on the actual justifications put forth.
OIF was a continuation of the first Gulf War, and enforcement of broken UNSCRs, including the original agreement (which is why 678 was cited and not 1441 as justification for physical force).
The Bush administration made the decision that a rogue regime who has been a constant menace throughout the region for the previous decade in a post-9/11 world was too dangerous to be allowed to hover over our heads as a future threat.
The marriage between Saddam’s love for wmd and the fear that he, as an open state-sponsor of terrorism, would ally with terrorists to use as proxy and deliver a wmd attack was the fear after 9/11. We tolerated him through the 90s in the background as a constant menace to peace and stability in that region of the world.
And yes, he would indeed (and did) cooperate with religious as well as secular terrorists. This is confirmed by the Iraqi Perspectives Project, translating just some of the captured documents in the Harmony Database. Right or wrong, in the administration’s view, Saddam’s regime posed “the threat of wmd terrorism” and that (finally) taking care of Saddam would send a message to other state sponsors of terror, post 9/11. Saddam had systematically undermined a 10 yr effort on the part of the UN and U.S. to disarm him of further aggression (as per Agreement). Among all the state actors who support terrorism and known to pursue chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons ambitions, only Iraq had been made subject to a 10 yr long, multi-national diplomatic pressure of disarmament. And he remained in defiance to the end. The UN projected weakness, along with the U.S….until Bush jr. came along. He meant what he said.
Saddam misread Bush. So he displayed the same defiant and deceitful behavior that allowed him to prevail for a decade of snubbing his nose at the UN and the U.S.
You’re a moron.
I’m feeding back to you what you yourself came in with. Read your first comment and where I got off on saying “You must be describing your own derangement”. I’m just using your own words and tone, buddy. So look in the mirror and apply your standards to yourself before demanding it of others.
You’re like the birthers for the left.
Glad I got an admission from you, though, that you lied when you made the pretense that “America gave Dub a chance” while we “hated Obama’s guts from day one”. Keep crying me a river with your distorted history and perspective.
Of course you do. You’re a Bush-derangement syndrome-suffering Chris Matthews-wannabe sycophant with only one card up your sleeve: The Race Card.
Obama’s race only matters to those who support him and actual racists (those who do and don’t support him). It doesn’t matter to most conservatives, though.
And in the grand scheme of news-making, this is relevant…how?
Here’s a solution for you: If you don’t like a blog’s opinion, don’t read it. Don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill from it.
When you have mainstream conservatives and pundits and politicians doing as you describe, then we have a problem.
And seriously….you never saw such vitriolic hate-spew at Bush, Laura, or their daughters?! Maybe you need to visit Think Progress, Firedoglake, MSNBC, Daily Kos, Democratic Underground and then get back to me on the civility your side of the aisle has toward the opposition.
You really see and hear what you want to, don’t you? Only what confirms your own prejudices and belief system. Thanks for no-selling my link (I doubt you bothered to click on any as you don’t seem to be interested in serious deliberation but in pushing an agenda as a partisan) regarding how my behavior on Day One of the Obama presidency doesn’t fit your caricaturized preconceived notion and political bigotry toward conservatives.
So you give your side an equivalency pass when they criticized Bush as dyslexic? Stupid? For exercising too much (seriously, Jonathan Chait did just that)? For golfing? For vacationing? For Barney? Etc., etc.? And yet when the same frivolous hatred happens to President Obama, suddenly all this animosity and animus must be due to race? YOU, sir, are part of what perpetuates racism. You light it; and then throw dry timber and kerosene onto it.
Based upon what I have read of your comments, I give you zero credibility in your ability to perceive reality for what it is. When you take off your partisan-colored lenses, then I’ll listen to what you might have to say as having merit for consideration.
Have you considered getting out more?
If you come to FA for daily abuse of your Dear Leader, then yeah, you have come to the right place, I suppose. If you expect civility and mainstream moderation and constructive criticism of President Obama, far right blogs probably aren’t the place. They often are for places for partisans to vent. If you’re looking for validations for your views, well then Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton and MSNBC is your hangout.
Enjoy your fine company you keep.
@Nanny G:
One thing I should clarify is that I’m not trying to insinuate that 30% of Republicans came to this notion independently, or that rank and file conservatives are in on the game plan. I believe much of this stuff has been cynically pushed for partisan reasons. People tend to trust what comes from “their side”. So when Newt Ginrich is playing up the Obama = foreigner trope, it gains legitimacy. He probably knows it’s malarkey, but he’s also a very successful politician who knows how to play people. He and other leaders on the Right know what buttons to push when it comes to Obama, how to play to mistrust and amplify it. What is a partisan parlor trick to someone like Newt is taken at face value by people who implicitly trust him.
@Tom:
Thank you! You and I are in agreement on this. The question is, which is greater BDS or ODS? I say Bush was hated with just as much vitriol (from partisans) as Obama is (from partisans).
Your comparison leaves out Big Oil, the Illuminati, the Jewish lobby, the Saudis, Skull and Bones, the North American Union, 9/11 Truthers and orchestrating 9/11,- just off the top of my head.
Tom, surely you realize that the leftist equivalent of what you or Ward wants to charge right-wingers with exists. This includes those who questioned Cheney and Bush’s patriotism, just as there are those on the right who do it to Obama.
And then you have the kind of conspiracy nuts who believe both Obama and Bush are no different, that McCain was in cahoots with Obama, and are all part of the same coin.
Love your challenge! It’s Valentine’s Day as well as a work day. So I’ll try and return to address the rest of this later on. Thanks, Tom! The fact that I can’t give the rest of your comment a quick response means I am giving what you wrote serious thought and deliberation.
THE MEMORY HAUNTING ME SOMETIMES IS THE LOYALS OF SADDAM, GETTING THEIR PRISONER
TO CLIME UP HIGH ON A MADE UP ESCALATOR, AND THROW THEM DOWN ONE AT THE TIME,
AND THEN THEY CAME BACK DOWN AND SHOOT THOSE STILL ALIVE WITH A RICTUS ON THEIR MOUTH,
IT WAS LOOKING AT THE ULTIMUTE EVIL OF HUMAN,
AND TODAY WE HEAR STILL EXIST BY THOSE CUTTING CHRISTIANS HEAD RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK
IN THOSE COUNTRY WHERE THEY FIND IT OKAY TO DO,
DO WE WANT THOSE MENTALY DEFECT TO IMMIGRATE HERE? DO WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO GO TO SCHOOL WITH THOSE BEAST HUMAN? DO WE WANT THEM AS NEGHBOR, DO WE WANT ILLEGALS HAVE A FREE OPEN ARMS NO STRING ATTACH,
ARE WE STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK THAT ONLY SOUTH AMERICA IS COMING ILLEGALLY HERE
WITH THE BORDERS, ARE WE? ARE WE?
@Wordsmith:
Way to nudge the goal posts! In your original post, you wrote:
How about some honesty, you liar?
@Wordsmith:
I think that’s mostly true. I don’t think the Bush conspiracies penetrated the mainstream Left to quite the degree Birthersim, for example, has penetrated the Right. Can I quantify that? I will have to see.
Ah, the 9/11 Truthers. You have me there. Good list and point well taken.
@Wordsmith:
Real professional and classy.
You want to exonerate Bush of his abject failures, gross incompetence, and utter destruction of a “sound economy on solid ground”(which he himself proudly proclaimed to have all the way up to the point it bottomed out and he dumped it in Obama’s lap), whine about how people reacted to his failed performance, and then find some weak tea excuse and fake scandals to bash Obama, well, bully for you.
Today’s GOP’s only agenda is to kowtow to their campaign contributors while doing everything in their power to insure Obama’s failure. They’ve done everything in their power to sabotage any and all efforts to help the economy with a clear admission of opposing Obama.
Regardless, if you honestly think Bush was treated worse than Obama, you are a moron, you are much like the birthers, you’re overcome with your Obama Derangement Syndrome, and you really, really should get out more.
