Mass shooter theory? [Reader Post]

Loading

Here’s the conclusion I have come to regarding mass casualty shootings. I have studied these types of events since the 80’s when I entered into law enforcement; I have since retired but these situations have not. It isn’t about the gun, or the ammo; they’re just tools to get the mission done. I’m not a doctor or a shrink (although I did run this by one), but I have plenty of experience dealing with “EDP’s” (emotionally disturbed persons) as a police officer). I haven’t seen this brought up anywhere since last weeks events.

When it comes to “EDP’s” carrying out these shootings, here’s what I think happens. They plan these incidents out in great detail, timed to the second, and rehearse it mentally many times before the actual event. They are very careful about target selection, choosing a location where they are confident they won’t meet any resistance in their action timeframe and will have maximum public impact. They may even go do silent walkthroughs of the selected location to plan timing and research possible resistance. They already know, in their own mind, how it’s going go right to the final second when they end it by killing themselves so they don’t have to go through the humility of explaining and justifying their actions. It’s all about control, their control and only their control.

The day of the event arrives… they begin to execute their plan, knowing nothing can go wrong, and in most cases they are correct, having carefully chosen their target as a gun free zone with maximum impact. BUT… if something begins to unravel, a totally unexpected curve gets thrown in the mix, like an armed civilian with the mental fortitude to step up to the plate, and the plan goes way off script. Then the shooter has to end the show early, in a way of his choosing (it’s all about control, remember?). The armed intervention guy might not even have to fire a shot (like Oregon last week), but his/her mere presence is enough to cause the shooter to end the show.

And therein lays the importance of an armed society. If the sheepdogs are free to roam and protect the pack, they will. It will be impossible to really track their effectiveness, as they will do their job quietly, efficiently and effectively. But the mass killers will find opposition, and will be unable to carry out whatever evil they have planned without interference. The liberals can point at gun control all they want, but more laws aren’t the fix. Let’s hope sanity prevails.

Very good assessment Scott.

@Randy: Thanks Randy, my first attempt here. Have a great and Merry Christmas!

Scott, your assessment is right on. Most people equate crazy with “stupid.” Not one of the shooters have been stupid. Instead, they all seem to fit the same profile; methodical, massive research into their pending crimes, trial runs, on-site assessment of the area picking a site with the least possibility of any resistance.

Some of them have been bullied as younger kids, some not. Some have delved into the occult, some have not. But all have the same m.o. in one way; they were all pretty much loners. I can remember only one serial killer that was ever reported to have a stunning personality when he met others: Ted Bundy.

Outstanding Scott, this information is critical. It needs to reach the public and the minds of our simpletons in Washington, before they pass counter productive laws that do little more than embolden these homicidal maniacs. It is my opinion that these mental defectives are cowards, and purposely choose these “gun free” areas to inflict as much damage to defenseless people as possible for as long as possible. The fact that they either surrender or put a round through their gourd at the first sign of resistance backs this theory.

You don’t hear about homicidal maniacs attacking a SWAT convention or a cop get together; Hell No, they might suffer several painful wounds and survive to be picked on in prison. Armed civilian responders with proper licensing will be in almost every crowd, if they are allowed to carry. Gun free zones declares open season on defenseless people and the chance to be the center of attention for a few days.

Let us carry, Let teachers who want to carry, carry the weapons, and make it illegal to talk about who carries. A homicidal maniac will think twice or go somewhere else if several weapon savvy teachers are packing weapons.

We put air marshals on flights to protect a bunch of grown ups for a few hours, it costs a fortune, but we are surrounded with cowards who want to be protected by others, it will cost a fortune to have police in schools, but some schools probably need police, but most don’t. Especially, if you have a few teachers who understand weapons and can use them effectively.

When you need cops, they are minutes away. A homicidal maniac can kill approximately six a minute with a black powder weapon if he practices. If the cops are five minutes away and don’t run around in confusion like they did ay Columbine for 15 minutes, that leaves us with 30 victims with a 54 caliber wound that will most likely be fatal. We are on the defensive and we need to be on offense. These stupid laws accomplished nothing in the past, except make Liberals feel good inside. Flash suppressors scare people, but they do nothing but keep the flash from temporarily blinding the shooter at night. The AR 15 is not a military weapon, it just looks scary to those who know less than squat about a weapon. Taping two magazines to each other so that one is upside down is more reliable than one long magazine with a tired spring. These are stupid laws that will only enable homicidal maniacs and make Liberals feel good inside. In the mean time the next maniac is planning his big day and laughing at our stupidity.

Good job Scott, now, give us another that reflects your thirty years of service.

@retire05: You’re right about the loaners retire05, and they seldom speak either. The mall shooter was a little different, he announced the he was the shooter, but other than that he tracked right with the program.

@Skook: Thank you Skook.
Columbine was a different scenario from the ones since then, a game changer for law enforcement. Prior to that one, the police procedure nationwide was to secure a perimeter and wait for SWAT. After we discovered that wasn’t gonna work without a high body count, the “active shooter” training was instituted. The procedure became “run to the gunfire, take shooter out”. There was a lot of old-school dudes like me that were already geared that way, so that training was welcome and still is. Ya know what the bad guys call a “gun free zone”? I believe that’s called a target rich environment..
And for the record, I only had 20 years in law enforcement, retired early, too many surgeries and injuries. I also did 17 years as a volunteer firefighter, for a lot of that time our department was the busiest all volunteer fire department in the nation. Gave a lot, didn’t get much back except satisfation of a job well done; that was sufficient. And my invitation is still open…

Scott, 20 years is more than enough. Thanks for the info on Columbine. That debacle got to me, when I read about the response. I like this “run to the gunfire take the shooter out” strategy. I know it is dangerous.

I am serious about writing some more articles. Write from the heart and you will do great things.

OUTSTANDING ASSESSMENT!!!!!

This long post goes into many aspects of these mass killings and dissects the anti-gun positions
The best point, IMO, is the discussion about the times the showing of a weapon by the supposed victim has stopped a crime when the weapon was not even fired.

Scott in Oklahoma,
what a career, you are among the HERO, AND THE MOST DIFFICULT IS TO STAY ALIVE FOR A HERO,
AS I READ FOR YOU. THANK YOU FOR THE SMART POST,
if only we could have them identified before they destroy humans,
and from what you know, it made me think those E D P emotional depress person
I guess they would favor the game of killer, and love to look at those kind of movies,
and take it as their own fantazy, it possibly trigger some kind of nefarious brain reaction
as they possibly identify with those game and movie and become one of them and as you mention they control the game they want to live,
and also they surely are desensitize from knowing how much hurt they will give to other,
which is itself a trigger to a normal brain to want to stop the pain, but not for them as they learned on the game machine , no one suffer there they just fall,
do we know of a scientist studied a similar brain after one kill itself?
or are we not advance yet to that research?
I BET THEY WOULD FIND DEAD CONNECTIONS OF NEURONS WHERE THE PAIN CENTER IS LOCATED,
TELLING US THEY ARE YES DESENSITIZE, AND DANGEROUS,
THEN IT COULD LEAD TO A WAY OF REPAIRING IT BEFORE THEY COMMIT THEIR KILLING,
AND ABLE ALSO TO IDENTIFYE THOSE POSSIBLE FUTURE KILLERS, AND GIVING THEM A
WHAT YOU CALL A BRAINIACOLOGY [MY WORD]

@Skook: Skook et. al…..I have been giving these shootings (at schools) a lot of thought for some time…here follows
There appear to be 3-4 parts to them…#1. Mental issues….#2. Environment….#3. Weapon availability…#4 issues included within the mental problems
#1. Mental…short of returning to institutionalism and providing large amounts of money and support to caregivers etc…I do not have a clue.
#2. Environmental….these damn schools are built perfect for shootings….the last one was on track but had not gone far enough. I suggest the following…all doors are lockdown/buzzer type with entrance only through main door which should be a double door situation. All windowns/glass etc should be wire mesh safety glass. The main door should lead directly into the main office, not the hallway. which should face the door and be furnished with bullet proof glass. At least one person in the office must be armed. There should be an trained armed guard at the door backed up with another to roam the school. All class room doors should be locked at all times when students are in the rooms. In short make sure the school has and maintains control at all times.
#3. background checks on all sales including person to person. the rest goes to mental issues.
In reality we must take back control of the situation making it so that we have and maintain control no matter what changes might occur.

@Larry Uloth: Those of us who have served in the military and specifically the infantry know what a killer with training could accomplish in several minutes of unrestricted shooting.

Here is a scenario to think about and I hate to mention it, but we need to think of these things. What if a shooter walks from classroom to classroom from just outside the windows and delivers his insanity through the windows.

The sporting event is a wretched scenario.

Locking the kids behind a steel front door is a good idea, but we must not make it impossible for them to get out in case of fire or some type of natural disaster. Part of the problem is we elect political stooges who look and speak a role, but in reality they are incapable of doing anything practical. These are the types of buffoons who will be making decisions on the safety of schools and the laws that make it safer for lunatics to use us at targets.

Here is a stat that should be part of this debate:

“Over the last fifty years, with only one single exception (Gabby Giffords), every single mass shooting event with more than four casualties has taken place in a place where guns were supposedly not allowed.”

see:

Thanks for an insider look, Scott.

The current “go to the shooter” mentality HAS to be the only response to this kind of thing. Waiting is a death sentence for those who are (usually, though there are exceptions) unable to post a significant defense. I reminds me somewhat of the way military cops trained way back when.

and to add to my previous comment,
those criminal don’t seem to connect with GOD AND DO THEY KNOW OF THE 10 COMMAND HE
GAVE HUMANITY, AND THE ONE ABOUT KILLING,
THOU SHALL NOT KILL
I heard that it’s not teach anymore, who dare to take it out of the learning process,
how dare ONE who influence that removal of the first teaching of any knowledge in the WORLD ,
that is the 10 COMMANDS of GOD,
AND WE SEE HOW MANY MORE DEGENERATE YOUNG IT HAD CORRUPT NOT TO LEARN IT,
I mean learn it not read it and out you go. I mean to dwell in those DIVINE RULES,
AS MUCH AS THE VIOLENT GAMES THEY WIN AND VIOLENT MOVIES THEY DIGEST,
THOSE 10 COMMANDS ARE A POWERFUL OBSTACLE TO A YOUNG AIMING TO KILL
FOR CONTROL OR HATE OR SICKEN MIND, OR GAME PLAYING AS THEIR MACHINE DO.
THOU SHALL NOT KILL HAS TO BE IMPLANTED THE SAME WAY AS THE COUNTERPART,
IT MIGHT STOP SOME AT LEAST.
AND MOST OF THOSE CRIME ARE DONE BY THE YOUTH , AM I RIGHT?
WELL IF NOT, I KNOW WE HAVE MULTI HUNDREADS OF THOUSANDS FELLONS, who paid the punishment already,
thinking of finding work and get back in the society,
WHAT IS IT DONE FOR THEM TO RE-ENSTATE THEM IN THE SOCIETY
AS A PARTICIPATING AMERICAN BORN AND SOME HAVE ROOTS DEEP IN THE GROUND,
SHUN BY THE COMPANIES, LEFT TO CONSTANTLY DESPERATELY LOOKING TO WORK,
WHERE THE COMPANIES , OR BUSINESS FIND A TEN YEAR OLD MINOR TEEN FELONY
WOULD REFUSE THEIR APPLICATION. HOW DARE THOSE COMPANIES THINK THEY ARE HOLLYER THAN OTHER HUMAN,
REFUSE THEM,
OH you say ,I’m mixing the apples with oranges,
no I don’t, it’s all connected and intertwine as a culture being change to a socialist mindset of me myself and who give me,
no matter if I’M POOR OR RICH

Larry Uloth
hi,
yes and I was wondering how come he got in the class to begin with,
why, he was known of course to be strange but we never think of what will follow,
now they will and it might be just a innocent being thrown out like a criminal the next time,
and if we go further on a radical extreme protection, or is it Realy extreme, by having like the TSA,
CHECKING THE SCHOOL PACKS OF ALL THE STUDENTS BEFORE THEY COME IN CLASS,
AND what about the kid who bring a knife to protect himself from the forever bully in class, we take the knife and the kid get beat up in the next resess,
it’s not that easy to react the way the libs want,
by taking the guns, they had that mentality ,
but it showed not to work,
bye

Scott. Great Post. As someone who can attest to your Law Enforcement history, you sir were spot on. I will be placing this on my Facebook page because I believe this is important to pint out. Good Job Bro.

I don’t know if you’re right or wrong, but everything you said certainly makes more sense than making schools “gun free” zones in which no sheepdog is allowed to protect the lambs from deranged and methodical wolves…

We’ve tried the Gun free zone theory….worked about as well as declaring NYC a Sandy-free zone would have. Let’s try something different, like, say, allowing armed good guys to be inside the school zone…duh…

If you have something precious, do you not protect it? what utter stupidity the current law is.
