Obama campaigns in Vegas while New Yorkers eat from dumpsters [Reader Post]

Barack Obama dropped in for a cup of coffee along the Jersey shore with his new BFF Chris Christie and got what is really the only thing he wanted from that visit- a photo-op. A chance to appear as though he cared. A chance to look Presidential. A chance to appear as though he was doing his job.

Christie was sickeningly effusive in this praise of Obama.

Then it was off to Vegas, baby, complete with a newly acquired load of…..er…..gravitas!

From the Obama flacks at Yahoo:

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev.–Gone are the jokes about “Romnesia” and the loose talk of a “campaign marathon extravaganza.” For Barack Obama, the president of a nation reeling from a storm that devastated the Eastern Seaboard, it's time for gravitas.

Standing in front of a skyline of red mountains not far from the College of Southern Nevada, Obama's election address sounded more like the speeches he delivered when he campaigned for president four years ago. His original message of hope and compromise, subdued by four years of a stubbornly high unemployment rate and partisan gridlock, re-emerged Thursday.

The jokes and the ridicule aren't playing and it seems Obama has caught on:

While almost all of his speeches before superstorm Sandy were filled with direct mentions of his GOP challenger, the president mentioned Mitt Romney by name only once during the speech. Obama chose instead to refer to Romney as “my opponent,” “the governor,” or “the guy who's running for president right now.” He also sought to reclaim the word “change” as his own, hammering Romney as a president who would return to policies embraced by former President George W. Bush.

New Yorkers are dumpster diving for food:

In the face of hunger, in the face of peril, Mayor Bloomberg makes what has to be one of the most stupid decisions in history to divert relief supplies from those in need to……….the NYC marathon!

As hundreds of thousands of Big Apple residents suffer in homes left without power by Hurricane Sandy, two massive generators are being run 24/7 in Central Park — to juice a media tent for Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

And a third “backup” unit sits idle, in case one of the generators fails.

The three diesel-powered generators crank out 800 kilowatts — enough to power 400 homes in ravaged areas like Staten Island, the Rockaways and downtown Manhattan.

As of Friday morning, 11 generators sat outside of the park and a food services truck dropped off hundreds of cases of water, sparking angered responses from hurricane victims.

“I am from Coney Island where ev

erything is flooded and underwater,” Yelena Gomelsky, 65, said. “I live 1 block from the ocean where everything is floating. “[Seeing the generators and water] makes me feel so bad. People have no food, no water, nothing.

“They should make all of these runners bring food and water to people's houses who need it. They should bring all of these generators to buildings where old people live and give them power.”

Since emergency executive orders have been issued, the governor, mayor — or even President Obama — could take the generators for a more important use, explained Pace University law professor Bennett Gershman.

Such an emergency action would need the approval of the City Council, state Legislature or Congress. And they would have to compensate the owners of the devices.

And Chris Christie cares so deeply that he'll take help from anyoneunless they're non-union:

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) –

The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they'll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey.

Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.

The crews that are in Roanoke, Virginia say they are just watching and waiting even though they originally received a call asking for help from Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

Understandably, Moore said they're frustrated being told “thanks, but no thanks.”

Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.

Joe Wheeler EMC said they did not respond to New Jersey, but did go up to Maryland and headed home once they were done.

FEMA has reportedly abandoned Staten Island:

NBC's Brian Williams conducted a devastating exposé on the latest developments of the ravaged areas in Sandy's path. “There's no Red Cross,” on resident exclaimed. Multiple residents vented their frustrations at the camera “Where is FEMA?” “Who do we go to for help?” “We need help!” NBC reported on the growing outrage by those hit hardest by the superstorm, cut off from access to necessities they are dependent on government aid to provide for their basic needs until the city has removed enough of the damage for residents to be able to leave. “They are still pulling out bodies,” one resident said. Many residents who claimed they had lost everything have said that they haven't received any help from FEMA or the Red Cross.

The marathon goes on while people sit in the dark and starve. Obama abandons New York and New Jersey for his campaign needs.

Ever notice that when tragedy strikes, Obama has the same destination?

Maybe Obama could get Jay Z, who “knows what my(Obama's) life is like” , to send some relief champagne.

I bet some of that $40,000 per person money could help now.

Heckuva job, Barry.

UPDATE: Bloomberg canceled the marathon under pressure from hundreds of thousands of sensible people

Rich, you have no business demanding anyone rebuke anyone. As I said above, you refuse to criticize ANY dem for ANY reason.
It’s called practicing what you preach. If you did that you might have some credibility. Then again, you wouldn’t be a liberal if you did.

Hard Right
he OBAMA SAID TO HIS CROWD,
VOTE FOR REVENGE, what is that nasty inciting, revenge for what?
he is the one to be vote out for revenge,
but MITT ROMNEY IS BETTER THAN HIM, HE SAID VOTE FOR THE LOVE OF THIS COUNTRY,
is in it the good against the bad and ugly,
OBAMA will pay for the four BRAVE HERO , he let down IN BENGHASI ,that is why some will be voting for revenge. BUT THEY WILL VOTE MITT ROMNEY, BECAUSE HE IS THE GOOD MAN ,

@ilovebeeswarzone:

IVAN, you are very angry, so you should redirect that power into helping them instead.

They need to learn to help themselves and NOT rely upon others 100% of the time.

3 more days, AMERICA WITH LOVE, GOOD LUCK,
MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND AND PROTECT YOU,
AT THIS CRITICAL TIME , YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY IN 3 DAYS.

@Ivan: Do not forget Oakland, Berkeley, Tacoms, Seattle and Portland on the west coast

Boy, you get off of the web for a day and you miss so much…
I have to agree with Ivan in one respect, the people who are crying for help had plenty of time to prepare, but didn’t.
They need food.
They need water.
They need gasoline.
They could have bought and/or stored all of that before the hurricane landed.
But they didn’t, because they expected some nebulous agency to take care of them instead.
Other people prepare for disasters. We are called ugly things by those who don’t.
And yet, when disaster strikes…

@Ivan: I agree that a lot of these people were unprepared and that it is a reflection of the nanny state. Compared to those who are in the South or West who have had to cope with natural disasters, i.e. tornadoes/floods in the South and blizzards/tornadoes in the West and who have been demonized as “dumb hillbillies” or right wing survivalists by the self righteous left, they fell woefully short as far as survival type skills showing they aren’t quite as smart as they pretend to be. To wish misery upon them or to suggest that it’s some sort of God’s revenge on them is a different story. It reminds me of the group that runs around to funerals of those who were killed in Iraq or Afghanistan and claim it was God’s vengeance for homosexuality or whatever their warped excuse is. Perhaps I’m misinterpreting what you are trying to say, but if you are enjoying the misery of others because of a natural disaster, that is plain wrong.

Wrong, AV. I don’t wish the man who prepared and still met with an untimely fate any ill-will; my condolences to him.

What gets me is that time and time again, these New Yorkers have dirt kicked in their face, their car keys stolen, their women violate AND THEY KEEP REPEATING THE SAME CONDUCT WHICH GOT THEM IN THIS MESS THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Why the phuck is this so hard for many of you to understand????? NYC has numerous times been hit by Hurricanes.

THEY HAVEN’T DONE SHIP*TO AMELIOPRATE THE CONSEQUENCES OF A STORM SURGE.

DUH!!!!

Why make excuses for them? They have fecal matter for brains. For the love of God and all that is holy they deserve this.

Look at what they expend their energy on: BANNING BIG GULPS. PHUCK THAT SHIP.

They’ve been getting his with hurricanes for nearly 200 years, and yet they have no levee system!!!! DUH!!!!

And guess what? For their folly they expect US to pick up the tab for the damage.

That’s right, they suck azz and we pick up the tab.

But no, you guys can’t seem to understand how stupid they-or you-are!!!! You keep picking up the tab for their laziness.

Why doesn’t NY just increase their sales tax to pay for a levee system or sea-wall?????? Oh yeah, that would cause businesses to flee “the city”. So, it’s cheaper for them to take the hit of the storm and pass the bill on to you, what they derisively call “fly-over” country.

SUCKERS!!!

They laugh at you DAILY-no, mark that, HOURLY. They make jokes about you in their TV shows and newscasts. They think they are superior to you!!! And you sit back and just take their crap-and pay their bill.

DUH.

DEAR LORD, ARE YOU AMERICANS, OR ARE YOU SHEEP?????????????????????????

Just so you know-you act like sheep.

Perhaps the pricks of NYC are right-you people do suck.

@another vet:

but if you are enjoying the misery of others because of a natural disaster, that is plain wrong.

For them not to suffer-after having numerous storms molest their city and not preparing in the least to lessen the effects of said storm-would be an abomination before God.

Why is this so hard for you people to understand? Are you people all ESL students? Do I not write clearly enough for you (“Did I stutter?”)?

THEY DON”T BOTHER TO PREPARE, THUS WHY SHOULD I NOT WANT THEM TO FEEL THE EFFECTS OF THEIR FOLLY?

No wonder the US is phucked-good decent people like yourselves can’t understand DARWINISM 101.

@Petercat:

That’s right-they mock us. They make jokes about us.

Shi*, they can’t go two days before they are dumpster diving for food.

It’s good to see SOMEONE here understands this.

@Budvarakbar:

Don’t worry, their time will come and I will not spare them.

Others on FA will excuse their commie asses, but not me.

@Petercat: Other people prepare for disasters. We are called ugly things by those who don’t.
And yet, when disaster strikes…

Yes, the funny names.
“Preppers.”
“Mormons.”
“Militias.”

But it boils down to Obama.
Yes, it does.
We have been treated to almost 4 years of a government led by paternalistic sorts.
They WANT Americans helpless and needy.
It gives them more money and more job openings in government for their friends.

Well, look what the absolutely natural outcome of encouraging dependence is.

Might do this entire country some good if we are led for 4 or 8 years by a Latter Day Saint.
He would encourage self-reliance and self-improvement, pulling together and volunteerism.

What a contrast.

@Ivan:

Wrong, AV. I don’t wish the man who prepared and still met with an untimely fate any ill-will; my condolences to him.

Thanks for the clarification on that one. I think most of the people were somewhat prepared and the media, being the sleazebags they are, are highlighting the problem children.
