Paul Ryan: We Stand With Democrat Rahm Emanuel…Who Do You Stand With Obama?

16% pay raise? Not Enough

Paul Ryan is pretty good at this eh?

“If you turned on the TV this morning or sometime today, you probably saw something about the Chicago teacher’s union strike. I’d like to make a couple of comments about that because it does matter. I’ve known Rahm Emanuel for years. He’s a former colleague of mine. Rahm and I have not agreed on every issue or on a lot of issues, but Mayor Emanuel is right today in saying that this teacher’s union strike is unnecessary and wrong. We know that Rahm is not going to support our campaign, but on this issue and this day we stand with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

“We stand with the children and we stand with the families and the parents of Chicago because education reform, that’s a bipartisan issue. This does not have to divide the two parties. And so, we were going to ask, where does President Obama stand? Does he stand with his former Chief of Staff Mayor Rahm Emanuel, with the children and the parents, or does he stand with the union? On issues like this, we need to speak out and be really clear. In a Romney-Ryan administration we will not be ambiguous, we will stand with education reform, we will champion bipartisan education reforms. This is a critical linchpin to the future of our country, to our economy, to make sure that our children go to the best possible school, and that education reforms revolve around the parents and the child, not the special interest group. This is something that’s critical for all of us.”

Yeah Obama…who do you support? Do you support the best paid teachers in the country (making almost twice as much as the average Chicago family) who let the Chicago students down because they think they deserve more than a 16% pay increase? Or do you support you ole’ buddy Rahm who wants to judge these teachers on their performance and who wants to give more power to principals?

About those teachers:

  • Four out of every ten kids who start freshman year at a public high school in Chicago do not graduate. While poverty and crime certainly complicate instruction, this is not a system where anyone, including the administration, teachers or the union, can rest on their laurels.
  • Chicago receives almost $2 billion in funding from the state tax funds. That means almost 35 percent of Chicago’s total funding for education comes from state taxpayer funds. The entire state, not just Chicago, is paying for the failures of CPS and CTU.
  • Dispelling longer school day myth: Under the interim agreement, teachers will continue to work roughly the same hours they do now. Instead of requiring teachers to work a 20 percent longer day, the Chicago Public Schools have agreed to hire more teachers to fill the extra instruction time with such classes as art, music and physical education.

A tad on the devious side , perhaps , but still a clever move … Besides , why should only Zippy & crew get to play the ‘divide & conquer’ game …. Admit it , it does warm the heart , if sparingly used …. frank k.

The poor hard working teachers! Most of my family were teachers. The only reason the belonged to the NEA was that is where they got their health insurance. The UAW and especially steel workers unions killed the goose that laid the golden eggs. I have seen th elefties talk about corporate greed. RW complained that Bain took too much of the profit when they rescued a company from certain death. What do you call union workers who get 90% salaries for doing nothing? Union greed has killed more than one industry. Soon, every state will be a right to work state and plubic unions will be out. The votes do not have pockets that go clear down to their pant cuffs!

It’s almost as if the Democratic Party arranged this little crisis because they thought it would help Obama’s re-election campaign, but didn’t really think it through.

Do you imagine for one second that the strike couldn’t have been averted on orders from the top of the Democratic Party? It’s happening now because they thought they could use it. How sweet was the prospect. Obama, peacemaker. Obama, mediator. Obama, wise like Solomon. Obama, saving civilization from the Visigoths.

But I think he’s going to keep real quiet about this now. His people accused Romney of transporting schoolchildren to the roof of his car, but then it developed that Obama eats schoolchildren.

And the evil fatass union leadership can’t back down now without damaging their credibility as Holy Protectors of the Wages, Benefits and Work Rules. The strike will have to uglify along for a decent interval.

Ms. Lewis and the CTU have no ground to stand on whatsoever.

Higher than average pay, not just for teachers, but also for college graduates.

Comparable pay to the private school teachers, but an abysmal record of actually doing their jobs.

And she has the gall to claim that the private schools are not “real schools”.

And a more than generous pay raise package turned down.

Ms. Lewis’ greed and over-indulgence isn’t just limited to physical desires, it seems.

I watched this on the news this morning and they interviewed a teacher who said, some teachers are excellent, but low test scores of their students do not show this. HUH? I am the granddaughter of a teacher and while I am sure there are some students who could care less, if you can teach, then shouldn’t test scores show that? How can you consider yourself a great teacher if your class is failing? Blew my mind.

@Wm T Sherman: #3,

“. . . they thought it would help Obama’s re-election campaign . . .”

Yup, and it seems Ryan thought the same thing and jumped the queue on him. Well done.

Maybe Paul Ryan will head on over to Chicago for a show of solidarity with… Uh…

Well, I suppose what he said seemed like a good idea when he said it.

…Chicago parents who want their children to receive a good education. (There. Finished it for you.)

I was educated by Chicago Public School teachers and many of my teachers were certifiable-they should have been placed in a nuthouse. The stuff those teachers did to me and my poor classmates would have them charged with a criminal offense today. It is no better now. When people do not have to worry about being fired, they do a lousy job. The best thing to do in Chicago in terms of educating your children is to move out of the city into a good school district in the suburbs.

@Greg:

Be careful what you ask for, genius.

@Greg: More insightful comment from the ultimate BOHICA man.

I am interested in how this is going to ‘play out’ with ‘The Won’ …..

I heard many (public) schools do not teach U.S. History….at least not nearly as comprehensive as it should be taught….I think they now call it “Social Studies” “Social” studies???….No wonder there are so many students who have been indoctrinated into the Left…

I have been repulsed by the NEA….and the backing Unions…I have ‘not’ in the last several years voted for School increases because I knew many of the kids weren’t going to benefit from the increases…. the only beneficiaries to my hard earned “tax dollars” would be the “Unions” … this is such a scam on the tax payer and the mantra is always the same “It’s for the Children” I said bull shit to that a long time ago…

I wish a lot of dimwitted voters would get a grip on this fallacy….and start getting smart about this controversy…

…frankly I am tired of hearing about the “poor teachers” good or bad….especially when the student graduation turnout is so dismal…yet, they keep coming up with “straw man” excuses to keep that machine oiled by “throwing Billions of Hard earned Tax Dollars at a Problem” ….and the “problem” is the (political) Unions/and lousy teachers that cannot get fired!!

Lets get smart about this people!!

I think the plan was Obama would come in and propose a solution that everyone would agree with and end the strike. Ryan spotted the ploy likely prearranged by the parties in power and soured their triumph.
