A Collapsed Foreign Policy [Reader Post]

With the focus of the coming election appropriately directed at the economy and the creation of jobs, some of the media is desperately attempting a redirection of attention toward foreign policy. More precisely, the MSM is fabricating a four year history of its protagonist’s foreign policy.

Other than having given the go-ahead to kill Osama Bin Laden, the President’s foreign policy from the beginning of his term has been abysmal and has confused America’s allies as well as its taxpayers. The MSM is doing its best to prop-up the primarily missing-in-action-unengaged leadership with incomprehensible accolades such as Where Obama Shines and How Obama’s Foreign Policy Success Will Win Him Re-election. Such is the nature of the progressive mindset. These I-think-I’m-smarter-than-most self-believing-self-anointed mental aristocrats continue to project their perceptions onto the blank slate of a Presidency only too willing to be so consecrated.

To anyone who has been paying attention since the last Presidential election, such articles are void of insight and far removed from the world’s realities. The MSM assumes no one will have paid attention for four years.

This is the President who sold-out Poland and the Czech Republic by the sudden abandonment of the missile-defense security arrangement without extracting a single quid pro quo from Putin. If he had a better idea, could he still not have found acuity enough to “negotiate”? Apparently not. Today, Russia ostentatiously gloats in defiance as it ‘trades’ with, and supports, both Iran and Syria, as slaughter continues unabated by two of the worse current abusers of humanity on the planet. Putin says, “back off.” Where is the President?

In May, earlier this year, we could not blame the President when his attempt at political correctness (refraining from insulting Germans by using the “Nazi” word), as he mentioned Jan Karski witnessing a “Polish death camp” during a posthumous presentation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Karski, a Polish WWII hero. Is it that Obama has way too much on his mind? Or is it possible that he is uninterested and his handlers/writers are not terribly capable? Has he read a book lately, or even watched TV? Any chance he’s not familiar with Poland and its history as Europe’s tromping ground?

We can only surmise what Obama might have meant when he whispered to Medvedev, “this is my last election. After my election I’ll have more flexibility”, however, his track record does not allow for much positive speculation. Could he have meant, “flexibility” to leave the decisions to NATO? Backdoor compromises with thugs never work out, regardless what lipstick the pandering MSM has placed on this bizarre ineptitude.

Yesterday the White House denied an Israeli newspaper’s (Yedioth Ahronoth), accusation that it had secretly negotiated with Teheran to keep it out of the Israeli-Iran conflict. Whether true or not matters less than the fact that under this President’s watch, the story presents itself as a plausible scenario, and one hoisted unsuccessfully in the White House press room.

On the other side of the world, just as the Democratic Convention gets underway, the Nation’s Secretary of State is busying herself with non-presence. Unfortunately for Obama, as his handlers and writers scramble to prepare his speech, the Chinese have delivered an untimely, polite, but emphatic slam to Hillary, instructing her boss and his administration to stay out of their business in the South China Sea. China is stepping up its military control over the Macclesfield Bank, the Scarborough Shoals, and the Reed bank, against the Philippines, as well as the Paracel and Spratly Islands which are claimed by both the Philippines and Vietnam. Fishing rights are in play, but the bigger fight, and potential war, is over the extensive and proven oil and gas reserves which sit under the hundreds of islands forming the South China Sea archipelago.

Wagging fingers at dictators is a foreign policy maneuver which has not worked so well in the past. At least not given all evidence. Alexander The Great had a history of being really pissed-off at those who wagged their fingers at him. So much so that he annihilated their cities. Finger wagging measures will not bring satisfaction with China any more than they are succeeding with Putin or with ayatollah Khamenei in Teheran.

There would be little point in asking about the intelligence which led the strategic reasoning to support the forcefully ousted Honduran President Zelayan. The MSM doesn’t much care about Honduras but it does care about Obama’s image. When Zelayan attempted to change his nation’s constitution in order to anoint himself dictator-for-life, he was simply duplicating what worked so well for his friend Venezuelan Dictator Hugo Chavez, plus he had support from Nicaragua’s Sandinista President Daniel Ortega. The MSM passed on that one.

Both Obama and Hillary Clinton supported the Zelayan venture to abuse his country’s constitution. Of course if we had access to the insight which shepherded the Obama encouragement of Zelayan, we might enhance our comprehension into the more global intent of this Administration. Surely it cannot be as simplistic as the difficult to swallow explanations recited by the media that “open dialogue” with Latin American dictators is the road to positive futures for the populations of Latin America.

The soaring rhetoric and promises of Obama’s entry into the Oval Office four years ago that he would “reset” relations with Russia; that he would “refurbish” America’s image in the Middle East; that he would “out-reach” to Iran; that he would obtain Chinese cooperation; and of course the foundation of his election, that he would end engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan, (let’s ignore Guantanamo), have proven to be little more than bombastic hay-feed for the ideologically inclined.

When I wrote shortly before Obama’s inauguration, “Ronald Reagan prevailed, undaunted, in the shaping of his audacious foreign policy. He backed the Soviet bear into a corner,” it was anticipated, and is now obvious, that we would find ourselves very far from a Reagan foreign policy. With more dictators in power around the world now than ever before, an Administration wagging a finger, or asking for dialogue, only serves to delay the inevitable such as we are witnessing in Iran. This Administration is kicking the can down the road, . . . another can.

Add to this our own national defense may be being compromised by Obama in his anger at the Navy SEAL who wrote a book about the bin Ladin raid.
I have only seen a few sources for this story, so take it with grains of salt:
SEALs ‘pulled off duty’ over Bin Laden raid book

US Navy SEALs have reportedly been taken off active duty as a consequence of the leaked firsthand account “No Easy Day” about the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan which resulted in his death.

The entire command of SEAL Team Six, which carried out the operation, has likely been told to stand down temporarily, according to former SEAL Brandon Webb.
…..
The report came one day before the release of the No Easy Day account and examines its version of events, the motives of the author and the consequences of him publishing the book.

“We are already aware of several operators at SEAL Team Six who have been pulled from regular deployment cycles in order to deal with the aftermath of No Easy Day,’ the UK’s Daily Mail quotes Webb as writing in the e-book response to the controversial account.

He also adds that the book, set to be made public on Tuesday, September 4, has already caused quite a storm among the military.

“In our opinion the whole command will be on the bench as well because the consequences of this are so serious,” he states.

Most of the authors, however, are convinced that while the “reading public will get their dose of reality,” the most confidential details of the raid simply won’t be found in No Easy Day.
….
Special Operations veterans are sure that since the general counsel of the Department of Defense has not yet pointed out specific disclosures, it “likely means, they aren’t there.”

Before the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden was undertaken, the White House, Pentagon, and CIA reportedly had a “single, agreed-upon narrative that would be sold to the public,” the e-book presumes.

”With the killing of OBL came a huge opportunity for political gain and they were insistent that the PR spin make Obama look powerful and decisive. In an attempt to preserve the original story, the White House allegedly “leaked” information to author Nicholas Schmidle at The New Yorker, giving him enough meat to write a “sweeping narrative with great scenes that sound like clichés straight out of a Jerry Bruckheimer production,” cites The Daily Beast.

I really hope Obama would not compromise our national security just to get even with an author, but who knows?
It would serve Obama two purposes:
1. Obama is petty and thin-skinned enough to like it and
2. Obama seems to like our defenses weaker rather than stronger.

hillary is refered to as the “secretary of slut” around the world. She got Weiner’s the penis, NYC rep’s wife out of NYC on an Asian jaunt to nowhere-what did she do on that trip with Weiner’s knocked up wife? O. Foreign policy is a JOKE in this country. She and her whore-dog husband have screwed this county for years. Oh Monica is giving an invocation at the convention-standing up or on her knees. Ever wonder where her an the tramp bill will be later??? What a joke..and the taxpayers paid for bill getting laid. Talk to some of the Secret Service about bill’s conduct while in the wipe house–drunk almost every night..if you could find him..

@Nan G: #1,

I look forward to reading this “Seals” version. They obviously became annoyed at the “spiking of footballs” by Obama, all on their backs.

They also must have been really pissed at Obama for having leaked seriously secret classified information, all for self-agrandizement.

Gloating always has a price.

Whatever RT might say, the DoD isn’t going to run down a list and obligingly confirm for our enemies which disclosures are true and which disclosures are false. RT media is funded by the Russian government. I would keep the entire salt shaker handy for use with these guys.

Democrats are fond of selling out Poland. FDR gave Poland, a loyal ally during WW2 at the urging of his chief of staff Alger Hiss one of Stalin’s useful spies. How quaint, you fight on the winning side of a war of a war and the Democrat president gives your whole country to the Communists to milk dry for 50 years. In fact, the Polish airmen, the most deadly and successful pilots of the war and all other Polish soldiers were forbidden to march in the victory parade after the armistice for fear of insulting Stalin. How thoughtful, the Democrats were so concerned over the feelings of a homicidal maniac and a mass murderer and yet selling a whole country, an ally that was so useful in defeating the National Socialists, especially during the Battle of Britain, when Polish fighter would ram the Nazi bombers when they ran out of ammo. It’s true, look it up, but Poland is the bread basket of Europe and Stalin wanted that fertile farmland , so what the Hell, Give him Poland.

Obama has shown the sme disdain for our faithful allies once again. They stood tall against the Soviet Communists and are willing to function as a buffer, but Obama considers such resistance to be irrational, after all they are just the Soviets, nothing more than lovable Communists.

One of y relatives was one of those Polish fliers, I have and know more disgust with this Democrat duplicity than most of you. This crap disgusts me.

Skook, thanks for that reminder on Poland and its people. I have to tell you that through my long travels the Poles I have met and those I was fortunate to befriend, were all, solid, reliable, honest and hard working – not one I can think of was off those parameters. Sadly, I cannot say that of any other country’s sons and daughters.

The geopolitical circumstance Poles find themselves in has made their history difficult to endure, but it has also produced a very determined and, as far as I can personally attest, a people not wont to whine regardless the hardship . . . .

Just came across this piece related to Woodward’s new book which might shed some light on that:

“Boehner told Woodward that at one point, when Boehner voiced concern about passing the deal they were working out, the president reached out and touched his forearm.
“John, I’ve got great confidence in my ability to sway the American people,” Boehner quotes the president as having told him.”

This statement, to anyone listening, should confirm once and for all what has been evident to many of us for five years. This is a narcissist who actually disdains the very people he is the President of. Perhaps some of his supporters will read it. It should be an automatic vote-changer. No?

Our foreign policy has in fact been a great success.

They delivered us defeat in the Nam, and Iran’s restored Islamic republic.

This iteration will deliver the reconstructed Islamic block. And one constituent with nuclear deployment capability who wants to kill the jews. What possibly …could

Apologia for conduct of editing. Not opine.

Opinions vary. Hillary is a toxic bitch who will place this republic in danger of life and limb for political gain.

She is in a tough spot, having to use foreign Muslims cash to take out a domestic Muslim negro.
