Romney rocks Obama like a hurricane [Reader Post]

I think it’s likely over, but as Glenn would advise- don’t get cocky.

Coming off a terrific Republican National Convention Mitt Romney decided to visit New Orleans, which is suffering the aftereffects of Hurricane Isaac.

LAKELAND, Fla. — In a last-minute change of plans, Mitt Romney will head to visit storm-affected areas in New Orleans today, skipping a previously scheduled joint rally with running mate Paul Ryan in the battleground state of Virginia this afternoon.

A Romney aide told ABC News that Romney will “join Gov. Jindal and will meet with first responders, thank them for their work and see areas impacted by the storm in LaFitte, La.”

Jindal cancelled his plans earlier this week to attend the Republican National Convention after Hurricane Isaac moved up the Gulf Coast and wreaked damage across Louisiana. Two deaths have been reported in Louisiana as a result of the storm and widespread damage and flooding. The storm hit on the seven-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Obama at first had no plans to visit New Orleans

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki told POLITICO earlier Friday that the president had no plans yet to visit the Gulf state and review damage from Hurricane Isaac, even though Mitt Romney announced plans to visit Friday.

But Romney sprung the trap

President Barack Obama was today forced to announce he will fly to storm-hit Louisiana on Monday – hours after Mitt Romney beat him to the punch by deciding to head there this afternoon.
After it emerged that Obama was still taking time to fit in a campaign stop in Cleveland, Ohio before checking out how clean-up operations are proceeding in the Bayou state, the Obama campaign abruptly cancelled that event.

The White House scrambled and sputtered something about Obama having plans to visit New Orleans before Romney did but they were kept a national secret. Not even the campaign spokeswoman knew about them.

The First lady acknowledged the damage done to New Orleans by appearing on “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Dr. Oz,” and “Rachael Ray.” She did her part.

If you think Obama had plans to go to New Orleans you’re goofy.

If you think Romney suddenly “changed” his plans to visit New Orleans I have some oceanfront property in Kansas I want to sell to you.

Obama is now following from behind and that’s likely to continue right through November. Mitt Romney now has full access to his party’s campaign money and he will make excellent use of it.

Our President is going to learn just how intelligent Mitt Romney is. Obama had better buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

And just for fun

DrJohn, even when Obama acknowledged that the storm warranted federal assistance he refused to help with the paying of emergency STATE, COUNTY and CITY workers in Republican-run states!
He only is paying for his own federal workers if they help.
This is part of a larger pattern that has emerged after 4 years of Obama.
Yes, after a couple emergencies he FINALLY assisted in Republican run states, a little bit and late.
But his pattern is to let them and their people suffer.

I cannot see Romney being like that.

Obama has blown it!
CNN and MSNBC ended their coverage of Obama’s speech at Fort Bliss, Texas before it was half-over!

The soldiers were giving him the SILENT TREATMENT.
Even when he praised them profusely only a smattering of them even applauded that!
The troops’ silence continued through several obvious applause-lines.

Proof Obama’s peeps knew he blew it?
The White House’s own video-feed cut off 10 seconds after the president finished his speech, before the audience’s reaction overall could be gauged by viewers…..except that major news stations had already cut their coverage.
Oh, my!

@Nan G:

Do you remember the horrible ice storm that swept across midwestern states that winter after, just days Obama took office? Do you remember how people in Kentucky and other states, were without electicity, no FEMA supplies, no help what so ever forever before Obama reacted to that disaster? Because I sure do.

Do I remember the fires in Texas almost a year ago that displaced over 6,000 people and burned 1,554 homes, not to count the businesses, barns, etc. that burned while Obama diddled and people waited for their government to respond? I sure do. And what did those Americans get for their tax dollars? Two FEMA workers to take the names of only the people who didn’t have insurance. It didn’t matter that they were living in a small town community center. Obama had better things to do that take care of people in a red state.

But let Colorado see a fire, and boy howdy, Obama is there with his nose in the smoke. Ummm, can we now accuse him of patronage?

It sure looks like Ramirez (my favorite political cartoonist) “borrowed” that idea from A.F. Branco who published his version on the 28th. Well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose. http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/08/branco-cartoon-storms/

@Nan G

I can’t find video of the speech anywhere. Do you have a link of it by chance? Would love to see it.

@GeorgeS:

Look here.
Careful, some of the links are from a different visit 2 years ago.

Hubris, by any other name has probably never reached this level in the confines of the Oval Office. The troops see it, know it, feel it, and reject it. They won’t be conned. Good for them.

Vanity has a tendency to be blind, and when you spike the ball just a little too much, . . . shit happens. He probably gets back on Air Force One and wonders what the problem was.

@Nan G: #2
This reminds me of when some SEALs were ORDERED to jog with Bill Clinton. They all secretely agreed not to smile while they were jogging. I couldn’t find a link, but I remember reading about it.

@Nan G:

OMG, the blatant vote pandering he’s giving to the troops. He’s cut the defense budget to the bone, and he refuses to take the sequestration defense cut off the table. Yet here he is promising them more aid to them and their families. 23 million Americans unemployed and Obama’s promising them jobs. That speech was nauseating.

@Nan G: Just think how much worse the reception would have been if draft-dodger Mitt Romney was President and had given the speech.

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Probably as rousing as the reception would have been for another president who never served in the military, but at least held the troops in high regard. And no, I am not talking about Clinton, who also had little respect for the troops he commanded.

Obama is not in a position to muster up the money to do all things—that’s what the Congress is for. See this link for an idea of what Congress’s sympathies for national disasters:

With the high number of disasters during the Obama Presidency, it’s hard to perform the needed measures without the financial support from Congress:

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Liberal1 (objectivity) says: Just think how much worse the reception would have been if draft-dodger Mitt Romney was President and had given the speech.

……So says the cake-eater….

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Unfortunately, Greg, you do not seem to understand the difference between declaring a disaster and actually helping those who are affected by the disaster.

In January, 2009, when 800,000 homes were without power all across Kentucky and other midwestern states, where was Obama and his “new” FEMA that was going to be on top of such natural disasters. He had been in office less than two weeks, and his major fail on that ice storm was simply a sign of things to come.

Then there was the Mississippi flood that covered Memphis. Obama’s lack of response to the pleas of not only the Governor of Tennessee, but the people of Tennessee, cause country music stars to do fund raisers to help those who had lost everything in the floods. Again, another example of Obama’s slow motion response to a natural disaster, allowing people to suffer while playing politics with their suffering.

Then there is the disaster that hits closer to home for me. The fires in Texas where thousands lost their homes, their livelihoods, and every worldly possession they owned. Those people were not even give the respect of a flyover by Obama. I guess burning pine trees is not the kind of smoke Obama enjoys. But where was FEMA? Where were the federal/military fire services that could have helped the volunteer fire departments who were fighting a fire that encompassed almost 40,000 acres? Where were the C-130s dropping fire retardants on the burning countryside? Does Obama really consider it help to send two FEMA representatives to ask people if they had insurance and if they did, then those fire victims were told to call a busy number in Washington, D.C.?

Time after time, Obama has failed on responding to natural disasters until after the disaster has passed and the generosity of Americans help the victims, not Obama, not Obama’s FEMA, not anyone from the federal government. Obama didn’t even have any intention of touring the flood in Louisiana until Mitt Romney made him look bad, and even then, Obama is not going until next Monday.

But you keep tilting at windmills, all in the name of Obama.

Gotta give the guy credit! What other President would work so hard to out do Jimmy Carter and claim the “Worst President Ever” tag? Hell, one thing about Carter. He ended up being a dufus, but he has a heart! One could never question his devotion to God or in his own asinine way his country. Misguided and completely out of touch for sure, but at least human. This guy? He’s so bad that even my leftist libbie (not sure where we went wrong there. College caused it if you ask me. LOL!) daughter is now questioning herself as to supporting him. Having gone through damage from hurricanes in Virginia with the slow response from the Obama men, she now with Louisiana sees the man for what he is, that being a self centered moron. So maybe I do have something to thank Obama for. My daughter is coming back to reality from the fairy tale of the leftist lies.

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Wah. It makes 9-11 pale by comparison, does it?

I remember when John Kerry came to Baghdad. There had to be an order issued for soldiers from his state to meet with him. Maybe it had something to do with the if you do not go to colledge, you end up in Baghdad or something like that. Kerry and Obama are not quite different in their attitude towards the military.

Is it true that Obam is paying each person attending the Democratic convention $50 to fill the 73,000 seat venue when he accepts the nomination?

@Randy: #18
I guess if he had a hard time getting enough speakers to fill the stage, it would be even harder to fill the arena. This reminds me of one protest the liberals were going to have. I don’t remember when or where, but a readio talk show host played a recording of a reporter interviewing one of the protesters as they were getting ready to protest. The repoorter asked him what they were protesting. The protester replied, “I dont’ know. They haven’t told us yet.”

OBAMA spend as if there was no tomorrow , so when disasters came he did not want to spend to help the people he is suppose to serve, that tell he is stingy for the PEOPLE needs but flush money for his partys for his wife clothes and servants at 11 millions dollars, for his travel vacations, for his campaign audience, for his contributers, for his UNION’S BOSSES, ALL FOR HIM.

@DrJohn:

“Obama did let Texas burn.”

Oh, Dr. John, you have no idea how bad the federal response was. Or how heavy handed the feds were when they finally got to those areas that were being decimated by wild fires.

Randy #17 Colonel—–“colledge” “not quite different”??? lol
MY FAVORITE paying $50 a seat to attend convention. Will he pay airfare?

@Richard Wheeler: Actually, RW there is a post that they were giving tickets out in the local bars!

@Randy:
I also read where they had a NC drawing.
$5 to take a chance to get a DNC convention ticket.
Not enough people sent in their $5 to even fill the non-delegate, non-media seats!
So, they will ALL be sent tickets!
But will they all bother to show up?
Someone pointed out that Hollywood, Obama’s favorite rich crony class, has whole businesses that make and rent out dummies that look lifelike enough for crowd scenes.
I wonder…..

Were the $50 bills affixed to the comp. tickets?

@Nan G: What is one more dummy in the seats!

Randy
I have an idea for them, how about getting the OWLS AND THE OTHER MARXIST OCCUPIERS?
THEY WOULD FILL THE PLACE,

@Richard Wheeler:

Is the US better off now than it was four years ago?

Unemployment: 7.8% then, 8.3% now
Median income: $54,983 then, $50,964 now
Gas prices: $1.85 per gallon then, $3.78 now
National debt: $10.6 trillion then, $15.9 trillion now

Hey Rich…knowing what you know now…and considering the damning statistics listed above…will you be voting for Obie again in November?

does anyone know why OBAMA GAVE THE OKAY TO SHELL COMPANY TO START DIGGING IN ALASKA FOR OIL , SHELL IS NOT AMERICAN OR CANADIAN, IT IS A DUTCH COMPANY,
WHY NOT AN AMERICAN COMPANY?
I read it on a CANADIAN NEWS PAPER YESTERDAY,

/

AYE You are channelling R.R. and James Carville. lol
As you know,the main reason I vote Dem., relates to social issues.
I’ll wait for the debates to decide.

I don’t think Obama has done the job in managing the economy. The Repubs. have been no help.

As a mortgage banker I saw venture capitalists like Bain Capital and investment bankers like Goldman Sachs in action. Always had concerns with the leveraged buyout concept. Commissions and perks to Bain were huge. Debt assumed by leveraged company can be crippling and many times forces bankruptcies. Often assets sold and employees laid off. Not always a pretty picture. Mitt worries about debt yet became wealthy off created debt.
Interested on your thoughts on Mata and possibly J.G. not supporting Romney.

@Richard Wheeler:

Rich, there is one viewpoint that you haven’t looked at, regarding Bain-type leveraged buyouts. You see it as the dismantling of a company. Which it is. It is not, typically, a buyout and dismantling of a viable, or healthy, company.

If the companies that Bain, and businesses like them, purchased, were allowed to continue to struggle, either financially, because of a bad business model, or what-have-you, the value of not only the remaining pieces, but also the equipment, land, and other assets, would dwindle away. And while there might be some companies that go the route of a Bain buyout that could have rebounded, the other direction is the one most of them are headed for.

As such, the viewpoint that are not thinking of, is that Bain, and businesses like them, tend to maintain, or even create wealth(by selling pieces to the right people), whereas if the companies were allowed to falter and fail completely, the wealth preserved would be much, much less.

You paint the picture as Bain being vultures, when another viewpoint shows a decidedly different picture.

johngalt
hi,
I know one of them florishing it’s STAPLE, IF THE PATTERN WAS APPLY TO THE OTHERS
they must be florishing also,

OBAMA SAID that ROMNEY DID NOT TELL HIS PLAN ,
NOW HE SAID HIS PLAN WILL NOT WORK, IT WILL FAIL, NEVER WORK,
HOW WOULD HE SAY SOMETHING HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW THE PLAN?
PEOPLE TAKE NOTE, OBAMA IS TALKING THROUGH HIS HAT,
DON’T BELIEVE HIM, OBAMA WANT TO DO WHAT HE DID IS WIN
ON BASHING BUSH, NOW HE TRY TO WIN ON BASHING MITT ROMNEY WHICH IS A BETTER MAN THAN HIM.

J.G. You are correct. Fate of the company could go either way.But folks like Bain have little skin in the game( often a highly leveraged 5-20 percent) and take huge commissions off the top, excessive “management fees” and often provide large bonuses to execs while the workers are fortunate just to maintain their jobs. Company burdened with high interest loan to Goldman Sachs. PRIMARY concern is for the investors and certainly not the employees.

By no means illegal but certainly not altruistic.lol

@ilovebeeswarzone: When did he start talking through his hat!

@Richard Wheeler: So let me get this straght Rich. Bain takes over a company that is drowning and will soon be dead in the water. Bain uses its credit rating and reputation to get capitol and provide good leadership to turn the company around or help the company realize some gain during the selling of assets. You and the lefties think that this expertise should be spread around along with the wealth? Bain should not take a good chunk of what they saved (earned) by providing better management and use of capital ? How about we base a banker’s pay on how well they spread the bank’s loan money around? Woops, we did that! That is why we are in this fix!

Randy
I translate a french quote, maybe it doesn’t fit as well in ENGLISH,
IT MEANT TALKING WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT,
OOPS
BYE

Randy Bain took a real good chunk of what they “saved or earned”Heck they took a hefty fee even when they didn’t save or earn a dime How much is too much? Well having been a commissined salesperson all my career,I’d say that certainly is the question.
