Obama’s Clean Coal Con [Reader Post]

Hear it?

It’s getting louder.

The sounds of a election come nearer.

And it’s making a particular President wet his pants.

Reacting to the stinging criticism from two members of Congress in a key election state Barack Obama modified his “All of the Above” energy website.

The Obama campaign changed its website Thursday night to include a reference to “clean coal” in the president’s “all-of-the-above” energy plan after Republicans lawmakers criticized the omission.

Under the heading “President’ Obama’s approach to energy independence,” an entire section on the campaign website was altered from “fuel efficiency” to “clean coal.” The sections now appear as: oil, natural gas, clean coal, biofuels, wind, solar and nuclear.

Earlier this week, Rep. Ed Whitfield, a Republican from Kentucky who chairs a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee, criticized the president for excluding coal and hydropower, two energy resources that together provide for more than half of the country’s electricity, from his “all-of-the-above” energy plan.

“This administration has been openly in the business of putting coal out of business,” Mr. Whitfield said. “And for the president to run around talking about an ‘all of the above’ energy policy, even on his campaign website, and to not mention coal as an important energy sector is unbelievable to me.”

Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio Republican, on Wednesday tweeted his disappointment about the exclusion of coal, saying Mr. Obama was “out of touch [with Ohio’s] needs.”

In what has to be an act of desperation the Obama website was changed from this

to this

Let’s have a close look at what the newest version says:

“President Obama has set a 10-year goal to develop and deploy cost-effective clean coal technology.”

Obama’s coal industry goals can be properly summarized this way:

1. Bankrupt the coal industry.
2. See #1
3. See #2
4. See #3
5. See #4

Anything else he says is but pablum meant for the liberal (i.e. weak, gullible) mind expressly for the purposes of re-election. Obama knows well liberals suffer from CRS syndrome (Can’t Remember Sh*t) and will have forgotten everything he and Biden have said about the coal industry in the past.

Not me. I remember what Obama said. Here he is saying he would bankrupt the coal industry:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RevRZaZQpk[/youtube]

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

And did someone mention Joe Biden?

No clean coal for you!

Anyone with half a brain will see right through this current ruse. The problem is, Obama supporters come up short on the brain thing. Obama has been conducting the war on coal for some time.

With the country focused on this week’s high drama at the Supreme Court, President Obama’s EPA quietly released long-delayed regulations to apply global warming rules never authorized by Congress to new coal-fired power plants.

That Obama’s EPA would release a rule to destroy coal-fired electricity while the president gives stump speeches about an “all of the above” energy policy is an insult to the American people.

This rule will effectively block any new coal-fired power plants from being built in America, and a second round of related rules – expected after the election, of course – will shut down existing coal-fired power plants.

The result will be steeply higher electricity prices, lost jobs, and lower standards of living. Remarkably, this is all done in the name of global warming, but even EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson admits it will have no discernible impact on global temperatures. Obama’s EPA is crippling the U.S. economy not to accomplish anything, but just to enjoy a nice, warm, green feeling of self-satisfaction.

Consequently, coal plants are being shut down with no energy substitutes in sight.

Edison International (EIX) plans to shut down at least two aging coal-fired power plants in what could be a growing wave of retirements as low natural-gas and electricity prices and stricter pollution rules make many of these facilities unprofitable.

Edison will shut down its two Chicago coal-fired power plants — one this year and one by 2014 — rather than install pollution-control equipment to comply with state pollution limits, the company said. Edison said it also would likely shut down a third coal plant in Waukegan, Ill., and possibly others. …

Companies are increasingly announcing plans to shut down aging coal plants as the cost of installing pollution-control equipment can exceed the value of the plant.

If you believe Obama has a goal for clean coal that ends anywhere else but in bankruptcy, you’re an idiot.

Obama has repeatedly pledged support for “clean” coal and storage of carbon-dioxide emissions.

The ‘out-of-context’ Obama quote given by Dr. John in above article was simply an indication that the costs involved in cleaning coal might very well not be cost efficient.

It’s a very difficult job finding the resources to counter the one-way statements on these right-wing blogs, but somebody’s got to do it.

I wonder what the cost efficiency would be….for installing pollution control on this type of coal energy plant we in America depend on so much….energy we know ‘actually works’….I wonder if the cost figure would be around $550 Million or higher?

Just sayin…

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

Oh, yeah, any news source that is funded by George Soros, and has Herbert Sandler and Louis Gates, Jr. on their board of directors has to be reliable, right?

WRONG.

You liberals are so gullible.

The power plant nearest my home, and owned by LCRA, was retrofitted a few years back to burn clean coal. The emitions reduction was 97% but the greenpeaceniks from Austin decided to protest the power plant anyway, DEMANDING, no less, that the coal plant was spewing toxins from the smoke stacks. Unfortunately for them, liberals being not very smart, the greenpeaceniks didn’t realize that the smoke they were protesting was (tah-dah) steam, pure, clean steam.

Who you gonna believe?
Obama’s lying mouth or the facts on the ground?

According to new figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, coal made up 36 percent of U.S. electricity in the first quarter of 2012 — down from 44.6 percent in the first quarter of 2011.
The cause?
New clean air regulations, and a strong anti-coal movement are working together to reduce the attractiveness of coal.
Since 2010, plant operators have announced 106 retirements of coal facilities — representing 13 percent of the U.S. fleet.

Steve Miller, the President and CEO of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity stated in March,

“Unfortunately, the EPA continues to ignore the real impact their rules will have on American families and businesses by driving up energy prices and destroying jobs.

“This is another, in a series of new regulations, written by EPA to prevent the U.S. from taking advantage of our vast coal resources that are responsible for providing affordable electricity for America’s families and businesses. This latest rule will make it impossible to build any new coal-fueled power plants, and could cause the premature closure of many more coal-fueled power plants operating today.

“So far, other EPA regulations are responsible for the announced closure of more than 140 electricity generating units in 19 states. The regulation EPA proposed today could raise the number of closures even higher and put more workers out of jobs.

“Rarely is there bipartisan agreement in Washington, D.C., but there is on this issue. This was evident when a bipartisan majority of U.S. House of Representatives recently wrote to President Obama’s Office of Management and Budget urging them to stop this economically-damaging rule.”

The EPA will close down power plants and skyrocket our electricity costs, just as Obama promised.

Is Obama simply intent on destroying the economy of the United States while pretending to provide for our energy needs by giving money to his political supporters at Solyndra and other such failing Green companies?

Yes.

You have to admit that Obama is flexible. He will lean any way to get reelected. Actually, he doesn’t have to worry about anything. He just has to do what his handlers tell him to, and to read what they write on the TOTUS. That’s why he can vacation, golf, and throw parties as much as he does. Think what the propaganda media would be saying if Bush did these things.

@Liberal1 (objectivity): How would you go about countering the one-wayed statements and propaganda on CBS, CNN, NBC, HuffPo,ABC, MSNBC, ComedyCentral, the AP, Politico, etc.?

Somebody’s got to do it…

But back to the point, Lib1, can you really argue that Obama is pandering to whatever group he can to get votes, shamelessly so?

We have a power plant here in central Illinois. Several years ago they put scrubbers in to take care of the sulfer in the coal. The power plant is sitting on top of one of the largest coal mines in the U.S.Still too much sulfer.Lets rail the coal in from Wash. state and shut the mine down. The coal was being delivered on conveyor belts across the highway to the plant, now being railed 1000’s of miles.Im sure that there is no cost increase there. Hey all u libs , make sure u hug a tree today !!! Be sure u dont turn on the lights at home.

@jack: #9
One good thing about hauling the coal all that distance, one of my brothers is a train engineer, and he hauled millions of tons of the stuff, giving him a lot of paid by mile wages.

The gift that is Joe Biden. In a very not out of context reply to a constituent’s question regarding his support for coal power, Biden one-on-one drops the facade and makes his view quite clear, “We’re not supporting clean coal. … No coal plants here in America, build them, build them over there [China].”

Liberals are much like the muslim world in the sense that what trends in the Arabic and Farsi media in those native languages are wholesome different from the narratives they push in English; the narratives the Libs push aren’t the agendas they prefer as the Biden youtube demonstrates.

how do you clean COAL?
I think they are smoking some too much in the WHITE HOUSE.
HOW DARE TELLING THE AMERICANS HE WILL DESTROY IT,
THAT IS ANTI BUSYNESS CREATIVITY,
NO WANDER THE JOBS ARE HARD TO FIND,
