“I promise you the president has a big stick. I promise you,”
-Vice President Joe Biden

Always dependable for a laugh…

This was said in support of President Obama’s foreign policy and in criticism of Mitt Romney.

More from good ol’, “lovable” Joe:

“As my brother would say, ‘Go figure,’” Biden said, accusing Romney of a Cold War mentality that viewed foreign policy through a rear view mirror. Bin Laden and Obama’s successes in combating terrorism were front and center and Biden emphasized the administration’s largest foreign policy accomplishments.

“This guy’s got a backbone like a ramrod. No, no, for real,” Biden said, describing the decision to send Navy SEALs after bin Laden in Pakistan. “We can’t say for certain what Gov. Romney would have done.”

Well, we do know how Joe Biden would have fared if he was sitting in the executive chair.

And where President Obama has fared well on issues of national security, he’s behaved more like Bush than not.

President Obama, succeeding President George W. Bush, largely adopted Bush’s approach to Iraq; decided to use a version of that approach in prosecuting the war in Afghanistan; and widened the terror war beyond the targets pursued by the Bush administration. In the end, the administration even adopted parts of the Bush doctrine. True, Obama cast aside its more idealistic aspect: using American power to build democracy. On the other hand, President Obama has adopted wholeheartedly what we might call the Bush doctrine’s political science: the determination to fight our enemies overseas, eliminating them where possible, rather than wait to be attacked.

Kate Hicks notes:

Another line hitting Romney: “Americans know we cannot afford to go back to the future,” implying that Romney would take a George W. Bush-style approach to foreign policy, heavy on military force and light on “asking the tough questions.”

The Obama of ’04-’08 would be criticizing the Obama of ’09-’12 if he had an “R” to his name when it comes to Gitmo/Bagram detainees, renditions, Afghanistan, surveillance, Patriot Act, predator drones, endless wars, signing statements, etc. (and even out-Bushing Bush).

What kind of foreign policy doctrine will a Romney presidency look like?

How about a Petraeus vs. Biden vice presidential debate on foreign policy?

That’s not a stick.
It is a rawhide dog chew.
Obama thinks it will act as bait to get him another meal of dog.
But the dogs who go for that level of chew would be able to finish it off in an hour and Obama right along with it in less than an afternoon.

@ilovebeeswarzone:

WITH HIS SPENDING SPREE BAD HABIT,

Ah yes, more intellectual dishonesty. The REPUBLICANS control spending, not the President.

Or did you sleep through civics class?

More like a Big Stool! Shtick is a mild Yiddish referring to a persons gimicks or attributes. PO & VPB are in for a Big Stoush developing into a Huge Stramash!

The stick is called socialism and it’s shoved up….

@Ivan:

A couple of things that counter your narrative, Ivan.

-One, Obama had two years of a Democratically controlled Congress, including a near-filibuster proof Senate.
-Two, Congress gives approval for the spending of money, issuing guidelines for most of it, and detailed instructions for some. The President, as the head of the Executive branch, has quite a bit of leeway in determining how much of the money is spent, particularly when it comes to the various Executive branch departmental budgets. In essence, the Executive branch controls much of the direction of the spending of the federal government, even if they do not necessarily control the amount of spending.

Hey Nan…it does look like a dog chew…but those long skinny dog chews are NOT rawhide…they are the male part of a steer (the pizzle)…all dried and stretched out.
That one looks pretty big, though….maybe from an elephant..?

I have a stroke of political brilliance: Romney can put Joe Biden on the ticket as his VP, so we can continue to enjoy Biden’s words of wisdom. I don’t think there is anything in the constitution which would prevent this from happening.

icecream,
HI,

I feel so bad for the person in the paper repeatedly asking for anyone to check if they have seen her dog the size of shitzu since last year, WE have learned that there are many COYOTES HUNTING DOG, THEY COME RIGHT AT THE DOOR OF THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE WHO LEAVE THEIR SMALL DOGS OUT, and disapear,
this year they found hybrid wolf and coyote mix, they could not tell which it was,
EARLY WINTER I read there where a pack of wolves coming NORTH OF THE ATLANTIC FROM USA TO CROSS TO CANADA, IT SEEM TO BE NEW, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT SEEN WOLFE AROUND THERE FOR MANY YEARS,

@ilovebeeswarzone: So sorry bees! You are one of my favorites! I have many backyard flowers and the bees love them. I hope that same backyard does not become a war zone! I guess the serious nature of the many posts here have dulled my humor. I tend to the morbid side when I think of how great the USA is and how dreadful the present situation is. Much better to laugh it all off but it seems 3 walls of the cage are already built and could even the Founders find humor there? They fought a revolution against those who were without, we may need to fight one against those who are within. Have a Great Canadian Springtime!

ChalieGee
thank you, we have to keep hope in AMERICA TO RISE TO THE SITUATION ,
AND WITH A VENGEANCE CLEAR THE FOG so we can have a beautiful SPRING
AND GLORIOUS FALL SEASON, FOR THE PARTY WHICH WILL LAST MANY DAYS,
BEST TO YOU

ChalieGee
I can almost visualize your GARDEN,and the bees around, it’s a beautiful image for me,

as for me, I will see a spring in a new place this year and the back is a land bare, only a row of small trees just beginning their smal leaves and very tall birch trees bare striking white color behind,
last week I plant some seeds which my friend at the farmer always collect every year from her
beautiful secret garden beautiful,
and again I’m preparing the HUMMINGBIRD’ liquid bottle for they will be here after
the MAY full MOON, and I hang an old little container with seeds in a tall branch ,
I had seen small birds fly around low on the grass, theses last 2 weeks, but I really don’t figure how they learn of that container hidden in the tree, they where in when i look back the next day,
I was so surprise and in wonder to see that.
bye

charlieGee
I was reading about the CLEMATIS, you surely know how the branches are fragile, and sometimes break from many abuses or just are scratch wounded again by all kinds of attacks, I hear that all we have to do is cutting the wounded branch and wilted branch to lower the wilt even if you cut it to the ground, they will regrow because the roots under are staying alive, many people don’t know and discard the whole plant, they are other wise sturdy perennials and rise up beautifuly flowers, and the JACMAN IS THE MOST STURDY OF ALL, there is some hybrid with big flowers from FLORIDA, BUT THEY ARE MOST ANNUALS
DYING AFTER THE SEASON IS OVER,

@johngalt:

-One, Obama had two years of a Democratically controlled Congress, including a near-filibuster proof Senate.

So what? Since the Republicans took the House spending has continued to EXPLODE. Thus, it’s pretty safe to say that even if Obama didn’t have a friendly congress he’d still get what he wants.

@johngalt

: -Two, Congress gives approval for the spending of money, issuing guidelines for most of it, and detailed instructions for some. The President, as the head of the Executive branch, has quite a bit of leeway in determining how much of the money is spent, particularly when it comes to the various Executive branch departmental budgets.

Unreal. You really are good at the propaganda. Gobbles would be proud of all of you parrots.

The House could eliminate ENTIRE DEPARTMENTS. The House could eliminate all spending for OBAMACARE.

You, John, wish to talk about nickles and dimes the President can spend without congressional authorization, and ignore the TRILLIONS congress does spend.

You’re a shill, John. You’ve sold your intellectual honesty out to be a shill for the perfidious Republican Party.

Yeah, John, the problem with your “Narrative” is that is is bovine fecal matter.

@Ivan:

I am neither an apologist, or a shill, for the Republican party, Ivan. I merely responded to your assertion that Obama has “no control” over spending.

As for my first point, I should have went further in the explanation, so that the ignorant could easily understand my point. Obama had two years of a Democrat controlled congress. In that two years, quite a bit of spending was put on the permanent spending rolls of the government, including much of what was included in the “Stimulus” bill. As such, this spending increase is subjected to an annual increase of 4-7% annually that the House can do nothing about other than repeal the spending increases, through legislation. Of course, to do so requires the bill be approved by the House, sent to the Senate and passed, and finally signed into law by Obama. Think that’s gonna happen? I don’t either.

For you to blame the spending increases, since the GOP took control of the House, on the GOP solely, is pure BS, and shows a severe lack of understanding on how spending works. It is easy to criticize those, as you do, for “doing nothing”, when you don’t really understand what they can, and cannot, do.

My second point was that much of the spending approved(as much is required to be approved without a change in the law, which isn’t going to happen) is placed in the Executive branch’s control of where and when it gets spent. This is not new, nor is it a bad thing, as getting 435 people(or a majority of them) to delve into the minutia of each little spending item is counterproductive as well as not being easy, even with the party in majority control. As such, Obama, or whoever is the President, has quite a bit of control on when and where the money is spent, including the amount that is spent on individual items, although not necessarily on the totality of what they can spend overall.

That you choose to use my response as some sort of indication that I am a “shill” for the Republican party is amusing, Ivan. I could really care less what you think of me, Ivan, as you have shown in the past to be an uninformed, ignorant fool who doesn’t have the slightest inkling of how things really are, or how they really work. You attack, personally, people who are simply trying to be informative, and assign aspersions to them, either to make yourself feel better, or to diminish what they say. As a tactic, that is much more in line with the liberal/progressives in politics than conservatives, Ivan.

@johngalt:

For you to blame the spending increases, since the GOP took control of the House, on the GOP solely, is pure BS, and shows a severe lack of understanding on how spending works.

Awesome attempt to misdirect and misconstrue the exact degree of the treasonous conduct of the House Republicans.

Notice how John is trying his best to COVER for the cowardly Republican in the House in Senate? No matter what I say, John can rationalize the DRAMATIC INCREASE in the spending under a Republican House and a Democratic Senate which could be brought to a halt under a Republican filibuster.

John, you shot your wad here and have revealed yourself to be nothing more, less actually, than a shill for the turn-coat traitors in the Republican Party.

I and other good American have utter and complete disdain for you and your antics which have corrupted our party.

@johngalt:

You attack, personally, people who are simply trying to be informative,

WRONG. I point out lies and propaganda-which you are the master at.

IVAN
you always bash the REPUBLICANS INSTEAD OF THE ONE IN POWER NOW, AND YOU ATTACK THE CONSERVATIVES SMART PEOPLE HERE ALL THE TIME,
THAT IS YOUR MISTAKE YOU’RE ALWAYS REPEATING,
JUST LIKE MY MISTAKE OF USING THE CAPS, I always repeat too.
is in it hard to change a bad habit?

@ilovebeeswarzone:

you always bash the REPUBLICANS INSTEAD OF THE ONE IN POWER NOW,

Beez, I know this will be very hard for you to understand, given your inability to turn off your CAPS key for just about every post you make, but I can’t do a THING about the Democrats.

We, the Republicans, are supposed to be an opposition party, not some “go-along and get-along” step and fetch-it of the White House.

What gets me is that more Republicans (supposed conservatives) aren’t pissed-off that the Republican Party has sold them out to the liberals and the Press.

You, Beez, should be outraged at the betrayal that has gone on in your name. You have been bought and sold like a slave in the South and you don’t care. The election results of 2010, which was won on the backs of conservatives, has been lost-nothing has been accomplished that advanced our agenda. Only betrayal and treason.

Get mad, Beez, get mad at those who betrayed you.

IVAN
THE THING I understand is that the CONSERVATIVES ALONG WITH THE REPUBLICANS are too honest to play that same corrupt games of the DEMOCRATS, AND JUST WATCH AFTER THEY WIN IN NOVEMBER,
they will do the same thing that is be honest and smart as they are naturally, with no buls…
compare to OBAMA SPEECH, all over the country empty of actions past and future.
if the CONSERVATIVES would copy on the OBAMA DEMOCRATS, THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FACE THE AMERICANS AND ASK TO BE IN POWER IN NOVEMBER, that’s the difference between shame and
no shame to lie and screw hundreds of thousands AMERICAN WITHOUT WORK AS WE SPEAK.
JUST LOOK he is in AFGHANISTAN SIGNING a law which is in the future years, where he won’t have nothing to do with the affairs of AFGHANISTAN, is in it false to do it at this time
seven months for the election, you would not have a CONSERVATIVES DO IT or a REPUBLICAN , they have too much honors and respect for AMERICA to decide for another PRESIDENT to be doing his own decision, when time come for new one to be in power, the decisions of now, is just a
not solid base specially that they don’t want the war to continue in there and today someone reveal how many more happening of afghans soldier shooting the AMERICANS IN THE BACK IT HAS ESCALATED, and the one who said it mentioned the silence of MEDIA ON IT

Hereabouts we call domestic cats “coyote candy” …the only thing left is the claws
