Invisible Children’s Propaganda Viral Video

Loading

I’m so sick of this viral fad video, I’m posting this counter-video up on my FB:

Anytime you want to tug at heartstrings (attached to people’s purse strings), bring in the children.

Backdrop:

The powerful YouTube upload is by Invisible Children, a non-profit organization seeking to end Joseph Kony’s use of children as soldiers and sex slaves in his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a paramilitary religious group that has been active throughout Central Africa since 1987. Invisible Children is particularly concerned with Northern Uganda, where Kony has been fighting an ethnic nationalist war against the central government’s administration, though he is not believed to have entered the country for six years. They urge the International Criminal Court to take action and arrest Kony so he can be tried for war crimes.

~~~
the advent of the popular fad comes suspiciously soon after President Obama’s (unconstitutional) decision to deploy American Special Forces to the Central African Republic in October 2011. Although Kony is no saint, neither is his prime enemy in Central Africa, the proto-fascist President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. Museveni, who has been in power for nearly 25-years, is known for his affinity towards the United States Government, as well as his intense disdain for democracy.
Obama’s move also came as China had started to make inroads into the region’s oil production, threatening America’s economic standing. Observers who paid close attention to the president’s similarly dishonest war in Libya based upon national security interests were quick to discover the actual (monetary) goal of his administration.
Does supporting Museveni’s government over resistance forces further U.S. national interests? If it does, then I’d lean toward supporting a brutal dictator over ushering in something worse, if not more of the same, if it also advanced our interests to do so.
A number of links caution readers to think before their knee reflex jerks them into donating to what they assume to be a worthy cause:
the organization is not as innocent as it would like the many followers sharing its flagship video to believe. Financial reports uncovered by Grant Oyston suggest the organization spent $8,676,614 in 2011, allocating a mere 32% to direct aid, while the remainder was put primarily towards advocacy projects such as the major video and concurrent outreach efforts.
What’s even more deeply troubling about the organization is that its mission aligns with the Ugandan government of Museveni, condemning the human rights abuses of the military but otherwise arguing that cooperation with the regional authorities is necessary to achieve change.
If the “bad guys” are the Lord’s Resistance Army, the Ugandan government must be the good guys, right?
CNN:
Jason Russell, the most prominent face of the group Invisible Children, has made the work of bringing about change very difficult indeed. Invisible Children’s campaign is a well-packaged call to leave the state of affairs untouched; their message seems so modern because their tools are. The point made is conformist: Fight violence with violence, dismiss intricate steps of social change and make a narrow ideology mass-compatible by having millions of unquestioning people raise their fists in support. For the U.S., Europe and other generally comfortable corners of the world, this is a worrying picture of a mass culture that easily falls for propaganda.
For the world’s less cozy places, to which the areas in which the Lord’s Resistance Army has been active belongs, mass support for maintaining the status quo is a tragedy.
So what is the status quo? Well, it is indeed complicated. But suffice to say that for decades, this has been an intricate mix of violence that causes more violence, a violent government that garners international support by vilifying one side of the conflict, and international attention often reduced to uninformed celebrities expressing shock and horror. Crucially, it has been part of Ugandan government propaganda to make this war seem like the tour of personal madness of one man: Joseph Kony. This is the status quo that needs to be challenged.
Read the rest.
The main problem in Uganda isn’t even the Lord’s Resistance Army.
I have twin daughters who are Juniors in College and they told us this has been going on for a couple of years. They indicated that it’s those who want justice are ripping off the public because a huge percentage of the proceeds to fight this don’t reach their destination. Teaching moment about how this is very common. Also they said we have a lot of need here in our country and why don’t we focus our energies in this direction. I’m so very proud that they understand the issues. This crap comes up now by the MSM and wachos to distract America from our failed President and the real issues that face our nation. They also recognize the scam of the contraception garbage and know that this is about our Constitution which trumps the phony issue of contraception. BTW, they recognize Fluke as the slut she likely is.
Comm0n Sense@1 – You should be proud… sounds like you have two ‘very intelligent’ daughters there!
@FAITH7: Thanks Faith and yes I am a proud father. My daughters are not only intelligent (3.9 GPA’s) but they are also blessed to have the ability to see through propaganda. They had a teacher that started their class by saying, I will represent both Parties equally and without bias. I told them that was code for the fact that the teacher would do exactly the opposite. They where way ahead of me. And, as of yesterday, I can proudly add two more registered Republicans in California. BTW, there is NO more liberal left-wing wacho UC than the one they attend. It’s where old VW buses go to live out their remaining years!! Thanks again.
Common Sense
yes your daughters must have learned from their parents, they have built a solid judgement and
ability to judge which side they will take if presented 2 challenges, just by what you mentioned,
and your name fit you in all your comments I have read,
bye
CS, that is a reassuring post. It fills a tired Constitutionalist with hope for the future.
I can think of two UC campuses that might qualify for such recognition, but the location is immaterial. What is important is that they can and have withstood the fusillade of carefully scripted propaganda. Congratulations, I will share in your pride, if you don’t mind.
The Best To You and Yours! Please keep us posted on their advancement and achievements.
The LRA milita has a very checkered and troubled past in of itself, as it contradicts the canon of Christian faith. But then again the LRA is fighting a lopsided fight to prevent their extinction at the hands of the Uganda’s forces who are sworn to Islamic faith. Both factions have very crude and very bloody, “recuitment” systems to fight this war. I’m just distressed that we are entering a Nation that has no current viable threat to the United States of America and meddling in the affairs of this war. This fight has gone on for well over a decade, and most US servicemen sent to “advise” the Uganda might become at odds with their jobs once they know who their allies truly are and who their enemies are. The LRA has lost its way in reguards of Christian faith and practices, but then again dealing with a Government’s milita trying to commit a bloody purge of your faith to the last man practicing is the enviroment that makes demons out man.
Most of, if any, MSM coverage just paints the LRA as a rogue faction or some counter-government faction and if the true coverage happened and when people hear this Admin is commiting “advisment” cells to Uganda’s milita to help commit a genocide of a religous faction forced into desperation to survive it could be a very negative election year for him.
I do not condone what the LRA has done, and witt some of their past actions sickens me to the core especially with their child “impressment” systems on raided camps. Uganda’s own actions of purging entire villages down to the newborns if there’s any LRA sympathizers is as sicking, so I ultimately would like to not see the USA within this Nation’s borders since neither faction currently is a direct viable threat to US security.
Mr. Irons, that is yes very dangerous future generation they are training as killers of
anything that move, just just for fun of practicing what they have been taught,
they will have to be destroyed before they go into actions, just like dogs gone mad,
their brain has been mess up with, like the terrorists, same exactly. and dangerous,
you are right to not want the USA in there, but I think it is there already,
now go back and remember what OBAMA SAID HE WANTED, his own army, all to himself,
possible? hell yes, now that we think about it,
Wordsmith
thank you for the strange story, I never heard of it, but I heard of bestiality going on in those COUNTRIES,
and it is troublesome, if we think that some have enter in our country, which kept the same seed in their core implanted by their genetic codes from older generations, and they don’t adapt but choose to stay apart and follow other strange mentality which aimed on hate for whites and carry those destructives feelings to their own sons and daughters to continue the resentment on and on like a religion they swim in it
they even mix a god in it to make it look more acceptable for who is looking up to them for what degenerescence they represent, because it look cool for their mess up brain waves, they are many times are drawn to crimes,because they where endoctrinated by those adults who influence
their previous youth,
best to you
@Comm0n Sense:
Sounds like the home of the Banana Slugs… The other UCs aren’t as stuck in the 60s.
@Smokey Behr: Smokey, you nailed it!! They get a good laugh at the absurdities of the town and the school. And yet, they seem to be getting a good education. I think the exposure to the so-called diversity helps them realize what is and isn’t important or acceptable.
UN IS SO CORRUPT, it now claim that the most abusing the right of WOMAN are ISRAEL,
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, THEY HAD SO MANY OTHER COUNTRIES TO LOOK FOR WOMAN ABUSE,
GET THE UN TO MOVE IN THE ARAB COUNTRIES NOW, they are driven by those, they are in bed with them,
let them live with them in there own ground.
The director of a video gone viral that calls for the arrest of fugitive Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony has been hospitalized in California for exhaustion following an “unfortunate incident,” his group said on Friday.
It said filmmaker Jason Russell‘s condition stemmed from the emotional toll of recent weeks.
So, he’s behind a film about abuse of children?
This is getting really weird.
