Pakistan Holds US Troops Hostage

Loading

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Alpi ReyesCruz, who is from the Dominican Republic, waits for his ride on Combat Outpost Herrera Dec. 2. Reyes, an infantry soldier by trade, was finishing up a seven-month deployment as the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's science and technology advisor for Regional Command East. The assignment took him all over the region, usually by himself, to document improvements soldiers wanted in their equipment. Once documented, he would relay the information back to the States where prototypes would be made and sent into theater for real-world trials before being mass produced and officially issued.

I went to the PX yesterday looking for some boot laces for one of our Wounded Warriors. His uniforms and boots had to be cut off. So, he has boots, but no laces.

Half the shelves were empty with little signs that begged for patience as “we are experiencing logistical supply shortages due to the blockade in Pakistan.”

Kabul is pissed because the ‘Merican drawdown will result in something like a $14BN loss to their economy. Their economy has seen roughly 11% annual growth over the last 5 years.

In other news, Pakistan has blocked ISAF trucks from crossing Torkham gate from Pakistan into Afghanistan. These trucks provide the majority of our equipment and life support. The Pakis are demanding something like $1750 per truck to be allowed transit, and there are currently over 1000 trucks stuck there (and as they are sitting there, they get pilfered, and attacked by Taliban). These are contracted vehicles, so the drivers are just as likely as not to say “screw it” and leave, with or without their payloads; and even if they stay, we pay them extra for their trouble.

Pakistan is literally holding needed supplies and trying to keep our forces hostage. These are, if you’ll recall, the same “partners” in the war on terror who didn’t know (*ahem*) bin Laden was living right outside their version of the war college. We kill bands of insurgents every day, and if they are anywhere near the border, Pakmil suddenly claims they were Pakistani forces. Even though we clear any kinetic strikes close to the border (within 4km on our side) through the Pakistan military liaison.

Can we please tell India that they are welcome to go jack Pakistan up? I get that Pakistan is a nuclear power, so we can’t exactly bully them, but last I checked, we a) have ICBMs, and they don’t; b) are the only country to ever use nukes in warfare; and c) already have an Army sitting on their border. Any commander in chief with balls would just order one or two of his brigades to seize OUR, taxpayer-provided equipment, and transport it into Afghanistan, with ROE that clearly states to remove any obstacles to that movement. Then, we would cut all funding and diplomatic ties with them, seize any Pakistani owned assets in the US, embargo all of their goods, and sink any ships they have, military or commercial. Just for giggles, we’d then drop bigass bombs all along their border in the “training camps” their military has (which look an awful like insurgent training camps, given that they are full of insurgents training, and not Pakistani military.)

Affirmative

Rule #1 about fighting a ground war in afghaniatan: Don’t fight in afghanistan.

Bush was foolish to have put us in there in the first place.

CJ
yes all that and now, but the one has no balls and will hesitate enough to have some BRAVES KILLED,
incompetence all the way, why don’t the PENTAGONE TAKE THE MATTER INTO THEIR HANDS,
POLITIC NICE NICE DON’T WORK IN WARTIME,
This is a WAR for GOD’SAKE
who will protect our warriors?
I’m coming back after reading your piece of mind on another place, and I find that is the best I heard so far as an answer to idiots,
take care, GOD bless you all

CJ
you must have said about BIDEN SAYING TALIBAN NOT OUR ENNEMY,
SAME ANSWER AS CHRIS CHRISTY SAYING TO OBAMA ,
what the hell are we doing here,
oh, did you hear that the ALQADA IS CHANGING NAMES, THEY SAY THE WORD IS GETTING BAD PUBLICITY so they are in process to have another one they already know it.
bye

I was afraid this was going to happen sooner, post the UBL incursion into Pakistan, CJ. That most certainly didn’t sit well, but the drone debacle ended up being the final straw. The diplomatic relations are so poor that it appears Pakistan is adeptly doing the job of Congress in “defunding the war”, so to speak.

So CJ… leaving aside all the diplomatic faux pas this idiot-in-chief has committed, resulting in putting our troops into military poverty harm’s way so to speak, what can we do? Any airlift/drops possible? Any department or official we can write and ask if anyone remembers history of obviously smarter military leaders… i.e. the Berlin Airlift, or Operation Nickel Grass in the 70s.

OK CJ, if you want boot laces post a name and address. I will go buy some and send them over. I have got to find a new unit anyway.

When we’re at the point where were discussing air-lifting basic supplies to our forces you know it’s time to throw in the towel.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

CJ,
You’re looking at the situation from your point of view. You have to include the political view as well. Before the politicians can do anything about it, including King Obama, they have to find out how what they do will affect countries and businesses who donate to them. The countries and businesses who give the most are the ones who are taken care of first. You are fighting “over there” to keep me free over here, but also so the politicians can increase their power and income.

A lot of us are planning a SURGE of voters at the next election. We hope to drive the INSURGENTS out of office and drive them so far away that they NEVER come back. You fight your battle “over there” for us and we will fight our battle over here for you.

I have BASICALLY the same philosophy about going to war as you do:
(Step 1) Have the biggest and baddest military in the world.
(Step 2) If we go “over there,” go to destroy the enemy as fast as possible with anything the generals say to use (without consulting with lawyers first).
(Step 3) Go home.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Even though I ain’t a religious person, I wish you and all a merry “Christ”mas too.

Smorgasbord
what do you mean TWO,
is in one enough for this year, and why should I be merry?
bye

@ilovebeeswarzone: #13
I am guessing you are kidding me. If not, you wished me a MERRY CHRISTMAS, and I am wishing you the same. I ain’t having a MERRY CHRISTMAS if you ain’t! You shouldn’t wish someone something you don’t want wished on yourself. LOL

@CJ:
Exactly. If we don’t do something quickly to re-establish the credibility of our nuclear deterrent all will be lost. As I understand it the word; islam, means “submission” and that’s exactly what these cultists need to be put into. Building bright shiny new schools and endless foreign “aid” is not the proper response when attacks on our country or our troops are launched from their country.

Smorgasbord
yes I was kidding, I do that sometimes to get a smile
bye

I was afraid of this 🙁 Time to get creative until, as Smorgasbord says, we get to drive the insurgents HERE back.

You reminded me of a letter a Marine sent home to their family:

Dear Ma and Pa,

I am well.  Hope you are.  Tell Brother Walt  and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile.  Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you get to  stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m., but I am getting so I like to sleep late.  Tell  Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some  things.  No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay.  Practically nothing.

Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there’s warm water.  Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal,  eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried  eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee.  Their food, plus yours, holds you  until noon when you get fed again.  It’s no wonder  these city boys can’t walk much.

We go on ‘route marches,’ which the  platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us.  If he thinks so, it’s not my  place to tell him different.  A ‘route march’ is about as far as to our mailbox  at home.  Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.

The sergeant is like a school teacher.  He nags a lot.  The Captain is like the school board.  Majors and colonels just ride  around and frown.  They don’t bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with  laughing.  I keep getting medals for shooting.  I don’t know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don’t move, and it ain’t shooting at you  like the Higgett boys at home.  All you got to do is lie there all comfortable  and hit it.  You don’t even load your own cartridges.  They come in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to-hand  combat training.  You get to wrestle with them city boys.  I have to be real  careful though, they break real easy.  It ain’t like fighting with that ole bull  at home.  I’m about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from  over in Silver Lake.  I only beat him once.  He joined up the same time as me, but I’m only 5′ 6″ and 130 pounds and he’s 6′ 8″ and near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry  and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,

Alice

I love this one, what a punch line, the best
enough to crack the PAKISTANY, to let the CONVOY leave.

LOL Smorgasbord! I’ll leave a little mystery there and let folks wonder 😉 Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and joy to all.

Afghanistan is resetting to “default”…their problems are coming from Pakistan now, which is why Kabul has been taking more assistance from and strengthening ties with India (while Pakistan transitions fully to the China sphere of influence.)

The difficulty is one of convenient and friendly geography for either of these major partners (US/NATO or India) to effectively help Afghanistan long term (since basically all their effective LOCs to their potential allies cross borders that are hostile to either the Afghanis themselves or their potential allies, or both)…recognizing this the Afghanis are also cultivating ties to Iran.

The smart money in Kabul knows that any agreements with the civilian government of Pakistan are worth about as much as getting reassurances of peace from a 1937 Japanese Prime Minister…because the Paki army and security service operate as autonomously as the Imperial Japanese Army did and are effectively immune to real influence by the Paki civilian government.

I wander what PRESIDENT BUSH WOULD HAVE SAID,
IF YOU’RE NOT WITH US, YOU’RE AGAINST US,
LE THE CONVOY LEAVE OR ELSE.

CJ
BEST WISHES FOR YOU AND ALL WHO ARE IN AFGHANISTAN, TRYING TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR HUMAN OF GOOD WILL.
MAY THIS NEW YEAR BE A BETTER ONE AND MAY GOD PROTECT YOU ALL ARE THE BRAVEST.
