Holder Ignores Voter Intimidation But Will Go After Voter ID Requirements

Loading

Our Attorney General, the same one who wouldn’t prosecute OBVIOUS voter intimidation, now leads the “it’s racism!” charge this election season with a speech signaling his department will be wasting resources by looking into State Voter ID laws.

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Tuesday entered the turbulent political waters of voting rights, signaling that the Justice Department would be aggressive in reviewing new voting laws that civil rights advocates say will dampen minority participation in next year’s elections.

Declaring in a speech that protecting ballot access for all eligible voters “must be viewed not only as a legal issue but as a moral imperative,” Mr. Holder urged Americans to “call on our political parties to resist the temptation to suppress certain votes in the hope of attaining electoral success and, instead, achieve success by appealing to more voters.”

I find it quite humorous when people give the argument that forcing someone to have ID to vote will somehow suppress minorities. Is it not racist to believe that they aren’t capable of get an ID? Even the very poor must have ID when spending their welfare money. So who is being racist here?

In South Africa, for example, where black people were denied the vote until 1994, the new democratic government requires every registered voter–black or white, rich or poor–to bring official photo ID to the polls.

India’s election commission issues a special photo identification card to voters when they register, which they must present at the polls:

The Election Commission of India has made voter identification mandatory at the time of poll. The electors have to identify themselves with either Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Commission or any other documentary proof as prescribed by the Commission.

In Europe, the official EU Handbook for Election Observation acknowledges that voters are required to show identification in many countries, and suggests that observers verify that all voters are subject to the same ID check (166). Even the Carter Center for Human Rights, which monitors democratic elections all over the world, identifies “a requirement for identification” as a “reasonable limitation” on universal suffrage.

John Hinderaker knows where this is going:

The Democrats will use their constituent organizations to whip up a frenzy of opposition to “voter suppression,” while DOJ launches, or threatens to launch, legal challenges to selected state statutes. This will energize the Democrats’ base by pretending that Republicans are trying to disenfranchise voters. It also may succeed in increasing the illegal votes that Democrats rely on at the margins of close elections.

We all know where this is going.

Republicans are racist….don’t vote Republican.

It’s partisan politics.

Meanwhile our Criminal AG is trying his best to skate away from the Fast & Furious charges, but there are still a few who want him to pay for his crimes:

Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar has filed a resolution in the House of Representatives pushing for vote of “no confidence” in Attorney General Eric Holder.

The resolution, introduced Monday afternoon, is a formal way to exhibit congressional disdain for Holder as the investigation into Operation Fast and Furious proceeds. It would also be an initial step toward some House Republicans’ plan to formally remove him from office if he won’t resign.

Hot Air:

TheDC’s Matthew Boyle notes that the support for Holder’s resignation today far outweighs the support for the resignation of George W. Bush Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez in 2007. Gonzalez eventually resigned. Yet, today, the president and Holder continue to dismiss the movement for the AG’s resignation as manufactured and unimportant.

That might be why some Republicans in Congress have expressed that they would be prepared to begin the impeachment process.

But either way, the “it’s racism!” charge will continue. This, and the class warfare meme are the tactics they have obviously chosen to steal away any election they come across.

It boggles the mind- the Department of Justice coming down on those who would enforce the law.

We’ve fully entered bizarro world.

The use of logic leads to definite conclusions. In this case of insisting voter ID imposes unreasonable burdens on certain people, this bad logic leads to the conclusion that the polls must go to the these certain voters, instead of these voters going to the polls. Imagine the inconvenience these voters are put to. Getting out of bed, dressing, turning off the TV and locking their doors. The long trip to the polls , a block away, and the costs this entails. Oh the humanity! Absentee voting? Licking envelopes, the trip to the mailbox in the cold rains of November.

And if this is the history of American voting, inconveniencing certain people, then isn’t this a crime committed by the people who force this burdensome system, on certain people, an indictment of the entire United States of America? Well, I’m not going to sit here and read about how our nitwit AG is indicting the entire government, past and present, of the USA for the crime of inconveniencing merely for the petty sake of them exercising democracy.

Holder ought to go after Obama’s latest ploy for phishing…..but I bet he won’t.

The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website.

The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat.
The Obama information collection effort is cast under the mischievous guise of asking Obama supporters to “have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life” by signing them up to get an email from the Obama campaign ribbing them for having “inspired” the Obama supporter to donate.

The result, however, is that the Obama campaign gets a new trove of Republican email addresses that it could never have collected through voluntary submissions.

From the Obama website:

Who inspires you to give?

This holiday season, we’re giving you a chance to have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life by letting them know they inspired you to make a donation to the Obama campaign.

Simply enter their name and email address below. Then, we’ll send them a message letting them know they inspired you to donate.

Thank you for supporting this campaign, and happy holidays.

Important: By making a donation today, you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to have dinner with Barack and Michelle Obama. By clicking on the “Submit” button below or otherwise participating in the promotion, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and represent that you satisfy all of the eligibility requirements.

The effort is being supported by emails from the campaign to members of the vast Obama 2012 email list urging them to participate.

Obama Campaign Collecting GOP Emails

To buy a pack of cigarettes or any alcohol, one must present a valid photo ID, but it is racism to require the same folks to show their ID to vote…

Amazing.

Another thing Holder won’t go after:

There are many, many fake signatures on the Recall Scott Walker Petition.
BUT the “Government Accountability Board” is allowing such signatures as “Mickey Mouse,” “Adolf Hitler,” as well as all of the hundreds at some addresses.
They say:

“We may certainly note fictitious names — if we note them on the petition we will flag them — but we will not strike them unless challenged.”

The petition can collect signatures until Jan 17th.
It needs 540,200 to put a recall of the gov. on the ballot.
Right now, counting all the fakes, they have about 300,000.

BUT – at this time – neither Scott Walker’s campaign NOR the Republican Party may look at the signatures!
There is a time when they can, and they are begging for volunteers to help pour over all of them to flag the ones to be challenged.
There will only be a short window of time to act.

If you can assist here is the site:
http://www.verifytherecall.com/

And can you just imagine what it’s going to be like after the 2012 election!! Especially if Obi bites the one! They will be demanding that every vote be counted all over, lawsuits in court, the charges of racism, voter fraud, etc… the new president whoever she/he is will have to wait years before he/she can assume the throne.

Given Walker’s fallen approval rating, there should be little difficulty collecting 540,200 recall petition signatures. My guess is that the “Mickey Mouse” and “Adolph Hitler” signatures were the work of Walker supporters trying to discredit the process. They know full well what will likely happen if Wisconsin voters are allowed to express their opinions at the ballot box.

Yeah… like how did that recall publicity stunt in Wisconsin turn out for ya, Greg? Six GOPers kept their state seats. Of the two gains the Dems made… well, just another close election in either evenly split or highly Dem districts. Sen. Dan Kapanke’s original election was close, and it’s a huge Dem demographic in La Crosse. Hopper lost to King in Fond du Lac, but he had only gotten the original seat in 2008 by 163 votes.

Yeah… sweeping victories. More like yesterday it was one result in close districts, and today another. I doth remember you having high hopes for a GOP loss, saying if they were unseated, Walker was unlikely to prevail post that event.

uh… never happened, and as I pointed out, the two they gained were hardly a huge change in attitudes.

As for Walker’s numbers, don’t know what publications you’re depending on for your latest tarot card endeavors, Greg. The late October PPP poll numbers show his approval rising, and not at all out of line with approval rates of other governors. In fact, his 47% approval rating pretty much runs circles around Obama’s latest 23% strong approve rating today. I’d say reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated by the disgruntled….

I’ve collected petitions before. I’ve read how they are doing it… thru drive thru windows, shopping malls, etc. Signatories have to be registered voters. The petitions are district/county specific and they must be signing the proper petition sheet. On bad signature and you can lose an entire sheet of names. Bottom line, you can boast about a lot of names on a sheet of paper. As to whether they pass muster as legit signatories is another story.

But I’m pretty sure the New Black Panthers won’t be the ones vetting the signatures… or will they?

Now Gov. Walker just needs to waste valuable time, basically “running again”, campaigning instead of addressing the state’s problems. He’ll do it, as it’s part of of the process. But it’s also yet another demand for a special election – and a waste of state funds – and I’m guessing that if his approval rating stays stable, or rises further, he’ll be just fine.

Mata, you’re going to hurt greg by injecting reality into his house of cards fantasy…..so inject away.

For Greg, HR, they don’t make a needle long enough to reach the needed parts…. LOL

@anticsrocks:

To buy a pack of cigarettes or any alcohol, one must present a valid photo ID, but it is racism to require the same folks to show their ID to vote…

And that sums up the crux of the ridiculousness of the Dem’s argument.

IMO, what is going on is Holder is trying to put a monkey wrench in the “democratic” process to enable voter fraud and intimiation, while at the same time, setting the stage for Democrats to contest the 2012 elections.

Get your history right. It was Bush who dropped the investigation of the Panthers becasue it was bullshit.

The GOP is working in over 25 states to change various voter registration and ID to suppress the voters who traditionally vote Democrat. It’s shameless

Is this the country you want to live in? One that suppresses the votes of its citizens even when it means your side wins? Think about it. It fascism.

@Ditto: When one has never been required to show more than a signature or a utility bill in the past, you bet it is!

Whats friking shameless is that i have to use my state drivers licenses to purchase my sinus meds, yet we still do have a voters ID showing that I am a legal citizen, with all the appropriate information. And all the anti-fraud checks built into that card like we have on our license, and car plates as well. That in this day in age when we are urged to spend money on protecting everything and anything, except our right to vote. Go figure! And why? So the system can more easily abused. So why would some politicians want to crack down on voter fraud by having an ID. They are ensured that they will always be able to squeeze some extra votes in.

@liberalchild: It is our resident troll liberalchild, once again spewing lies.

Holder and his Justice Department dropped the charges, dolt. Not the Bush administration.

Former Justice Department Lawyer Accuses Holder of Dropping New Black Panther Case for Racial Reasons

Holder’s Black Panther Stonewall
Why did the Justice Department dismiss such a clear case of voter intimidation?

What the Bush admin did was seek a civil suit against the NBP members in question.

From a DOJ press release from Jan. 7, 2009:

Justice Department Seeks Injunction Against New Black Panther Party
Lawsuit Seeks to Prohibit Voter Intimidation in Future Elections

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit under the Voting Rights Act against the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and three of its members alleging that the defendants intimidated voters and those aiding them during the Nov. 4, 2008, general election.

The complaint, filed in the United States District Court in Philadelphia, alleges that, during the election, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were deployed at the entrance to a Philadelphia polling location wearing the uniform of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, and that Samir Shabazz repeatedly brandished a police-style baton weapon.

“Intimidation outside of a polling place is contrary to the democratic process,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker. “The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed to protect the fundamental right to vote and the Department takes allegations of voter intimidation seriously.”

According to the complaint, party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz confirmed that the placement of Samir Shabazz and Jackson in Philadelphia was part of a nationwide effort to deploy New Black Panther Party members at polling locations on Election Day. The complaint alleges a violation of Section 11(b) of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits intimidation, coercion or threats against “any person for voting or attempting to vote.” The Department seeks an injunction preventing any future deployment of, or display of weapons by, New Black Panther Party members at the entrance to polling locations. – Source

Dropped the charges?

lol

What’s the matter liberalchild? Tired of saying crass, vile things about an innocent baby? We are all still waiting for you to apologize to Lance Cpl. Carpenter’s family.

@liberalmann:

When one has never been required to show more than a signature or a utility bill in the past, you bet it is!

Ever heard of forgery, Identity theft or mailbox theft?

It is very obvious that Holder and 0-bama are clearly racist when it comes to their investigations into voter issues. It’s time to put the poor oppressed Black Man mantra to rest and realize reality vs history.

This has been no evidence of significant voter fraud. Well, not since 200 and that election stolen was ultimately stolen by the Supreme Court. You know as well as I that this is an attempt to discourage students, the poor and the elderly to get out and register, get IDs and vote. It’s a travesty of our Democracy and against what our Founding Fathers professed with regard to elections.

When I vote, I go to my polling place, sign my name against the signature on the register and I vote. No ID needed. That’s the way it should be. As easy as possible.

@liberalmann:

Problems understanding the Constitution much? I understand your a liberal and Constitutional impairment is often part and parcel of this affliction.

@liberalchild: So let me get this straight – it is acceptable to have to show a state issued, picture ID to:

* get on an airplane

* purchase alcohol

* purchase cigarettes

* purchase OTC cold medicines used in the making of meth

Now you might argue that the poorest of the poor do not ride airplanes very often, if at all; however purchasing alcohol, cigarettes and cold medicine are all items that transcend socio-economic status. According to you, this is a burden and an effort to prevent certain folks from partaking in the activities that require IDs.

Maybe you ought to stick to insulting families that have lost loved ones. That seems to much better suit the content of your character.

Remember everyone, what the Democrats accuse everyone else of doing is ‘exactly’ what THEY ARE doing…..Voter Fraud IS one of them….

Liberalchild-Fascism is a kissing cousin to your beliefs. Plus, the ID cards are free. How is that a suppression of anything? The fact your kind wants to keep vote fraud a viable option is very telling about you.
