As the election looms, Obama clings ever more tightly to religion [Reader Post]

“And it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
– Barack Obama

For twenty years Barack Obama claimed to belong the Trinity Baptist Church where the pastor made grand exclamations:

Then Obama threw both Wright and the church under the bus upon learning of the terrible things Wright had been saying for the past twenty years while Obama had been attending the church and not noticing.

Once they were elected, Bill Clinton and George Bush went to church. Bush went in belief, and Clinton most likely went for contrition. Obama, on the other hand, went to the gym following being elected.

There were more mirrors in the gym than in church.

The Obama’s did not regularly attend church through April 2010, although they did make it to Easter service. Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter as it sure seems that Obama pays no attention to anything anyone in churches says.

But it has been reported that Obama has joined a particular church- that being Our Lady of the Perpetual Blackberry.

Absent traditional services, the president has found a high tech spiritual ritual. He receives a daily devotional on his blackberry.

Obama’s avoidance of church, slips of the tongue:

“my Muslim faith…”

and his bowing to Muslim leaders

have led many to believe that Obama is a Muslim.

Nearly a quarter of Americans think President Obama is a Muslim or a follower of Islam, according to a recent Newsweek poll. The poll, conducted August 25-26, suggests that 24 percent of Americans believe he is a Muslim, compared to 42 percent of respondents who believe he is a Christian.

Ten percent believe he was “something else” and 24 percent don’t know. In April and June of 2008, a similar poll suggested that 13 percent of Americans believed that Obama is a Muslim.

And then there was this:

“the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to — or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world — you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father — obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.”

What’s an American to believe?

With the election looming, Obama needs to shore up his Christian bonafides. He’s clinging to religion more tightly than ever.

(CNN) – President Barack Obama delivered an unusually stark Christian message at the White House Christmas tree lighting Thursday night, saying Christ’s message “lies at the heart of my Christian faith and that of millions of Americans.”

“More than 2,000 years ago, a child was born to two faithful travelers who could find rest only in a stable, among the cattle and the sheep,” Obama said at the tree lighting ceremony, a longstanding White House tradition.

“But this was not just any child,” Obama continued. “Christ’s birth made the angels rejoice and attracted shepherds and kings from afar. He was a manifestation of God’s love for us.”

Obama has been more public and specific about his religious beliefs since polls last year showed that only a minority of Americans know he is Christian. Last Easter, Obama got unusually specific about his beliefs on Christ’s resurrection at a White House prayer breakfast.

He’s become almost…..evangelical:

In his remarks at Thursday’s tree lighting, Obama said that Jesus “grew up to become a leader with a servant’s heart who taught us a message as simple as it is powerful: that we should love God, and love our neighbor as ourselves.”

“So long as the gifts and the parties are happening, it’s important for us to keep in mind the central message of this season,” he said, “and keep Christ’s words not only in our thoughts, but also in our deeds.

Peace be upon you. “

OK, I made that last sentence up.

Maybe.

barry is not a Christian. He is in complete re election mode and will say and do anything he thinks the American people will believe . The fact he leaves out the word God in his speeches and stays away from anything Christian tell me who he really is. I say the jig is up barry. Based on your actions, and actions do speak louder than words, your support of muslims, islam and islamic countries tells me who you really are. – and for the record barry and michelle, it is called a CHRISTMAS tree, not a holiday tree. Soon you will have lots of time for praying to mecca because you will be out and our country will begin to heal.

Good post Dr John. The man is who he needs to be when he needs to be.

It’s good to be a blank slate, isn’t it?

Obama is no more Christian than the man in the moon:

“Obama Is No Joshua” by Cal Thomas — …..Obama can call himself anything he likes, but there is a clear requirement for one to qualify as a Christian and Obama doesn’t meet that requirement. One cannot deny central tenets of the Christian faith, including the deity and uniqueness of Christ as the sole mediator between God and Man and be a Christian. Such people do have a label applied to them in Scripture. They are called “false prophets.”

Also, no genuine Christian would support what Obama supports:

“The President of the United States: A Sex Offender? — Why Obama’s support of the abortion industry is the worst molestation of youth:”

Obama, in his actions and deeds has been on of the most Christian President in a long time. Certainly light years ahead of Bush and Gingrich. You cretins who point fingers should look closely at yourself.

Obama, back in 2008, if people were paying attention, fell under that old expression…”If it ‘sounds’ too good to be True….” Then it isn’t !!!!

OBAMA: Yes, we can. We will change this country and we’ll change the world. We are ready to stand up and turn the page. This is our time. We cannot wait. We are ready to write the next great chapter in America’s story. They’re looking backward. We’re looking forwards. Our time for change has come. [A lot of ‘words’ just words, but, what exactly are we changing here??]

And Oh, Boy, if people were just paying attention….well, most people have their heads where the sun doesn’t shine anyway…

OBAMA: Well, no. I mean, look, as I’ve said, she’s a tenacious campaigner. I don’t think either her or husband like to lose. And, you know, she herself and her campaign talked about a “kitchen sink” strategy, where we’re just going to throw a bunch of stuff a Senator Obama and see what sticks.

I understand that that’s the textbook way of operating in Washington. I mean that’s what you do. When you’re down, if you’re down in the polls, if you’ve been losing a lot of races, then you throw a lot of negative stuff at your opponent.

Once a politician labels the truth as hate speech, can anyone trust him to speak the truth afterward?

Its actually very interesting because Obama was still a Senator during this interview… see how very far he has swayed from his beliefs and what he does now… What a total Hypocrite!

@Randy: #2
I was trying to come up with something about Obama being whatever we want him to be, but you put it so short and perfect.

After King Obama got flack for bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia and to the emperor of Japan, he started bowing to governors and mayors to make it look like it is nothing special. Obama even bowed to Burger King:

Brian Williams bows to Obama:

@liberalmann: You said:

Obama, in his actions and deeds has been on of the most Christian President in a long time.

Please be specific. Which of his “actions and deeds” has demonstrated that he is a Christian.

Yeah President Bush wasn’t a Christian with his faith based initiatives, school voucher programs (which Obama succinctly eliminated), and establishing a National Day of Prayer….

Or not.
Just now, Obama announced he is using American resources to “combat the criminalization of LGBT status or conduct abroad; protect vulnerable LGBT refugees and asylum seekers; leverage foreign assistance to protect human rights and advance nondiscrimination; ensure swift and meaningful U.S. response to human rights abuses of LGBT persons abroad; engage international organizations in the fight against LGBT discrimination; and issue reports on progress.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/07/world/united-states-to-use-aid-to-promote-gay-rights-abroad.html
Obama added: “I am deeply concerned by the violence and discrimination targeting LGBT persons around the world.”

Now, in Islamic countries not only gays but also Christians and Jews, Zorasterans and Buddhists, animists and Hindus, atheists and agnostics as well as minority Muslim sects are all being targeted.
How about a hand, Obama?
