Liquid Motivation

I’ve been asked many times how we survive working virtually every day for a year straight. It’s a combination of numbness, lack of anything better to do, and these.

Representative Jan Schakowsky: You Don’t Deserve To Keep Your Money [Reader Post]

On WLS’s Don & Roma radio show yesterday morning (September 15, 2011), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky claimed that Americans aren’t entitled to all of their own money. Teenager Tyler Hinsley, at the GOP presidential candidate debate in California, asked, “Of every dollar that I earn, how much do you think I deserve to keep?” Co-host Don Wade asked Schakowsky to answer the same question. After delaying for as long as she could, she finally answered. “I’ll put it this way, you don’t deserve to keep all of it. It’s not a question of deserving, because what government is, is those things that we decide to do together. And there are many things that we decide to do together like have our national security. Like have police and fire. What about the people that work at the National Institute of Health who are looking for a cure for cancer,” Schakowsky said. Continue reading

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before [Reader Post]

President Obama has attached a big number to his jobs bill: 1.9 million.

At a private fundraiser last night, Obama said his proposal would create 1.9 millions jobs, while reducing the 9.1% unemployment rate by a percentage point; he also said it would add two percentage points to the gross domestic product.

That “private fundraiser”? $38,500 a head. Clearly, uber-wealthy democrats believe Obama will protect uber-wealthy democrats. Continue reading

Marine Corps Sgt. Dakota L. Meyer Receives Medal of Honor

“I didn’t think I was going to die, I knew I was.”

-Marine Corps Sgt. Dakota L. Meyer

President Obama awarded Dakota Meyer the Medal of Honor this afternoon. He is the first living Marine recipient to receive such an award since 1973.

Obama said Meyer, who is now 23 and was just 21 that day in Afghanistan, is “one of the most down-to-earth guys you will ever meet.”

When the president’s staff called the young Marine so the commander in chief could officially notify him of the medal, Obama said, Meyer was at work on his new civilian job at a construction site.

“He felt he couldn’t take the call right then because, he said, ‘If I don’t work, I don’t get paid,’” Obama said.

“So we arranged to make sure he got the call during his lunch break,” the president added.
