Obama code switches [Reader Post]

Harry Reid once observed Barack Obama’s ability to shift between common English and what Reid called “Negro dialect.”

“He [Reid] was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’ ” Halperin and Heilemann say.

Reid was right, but he was dunned into apologizing for it.

Over at HuffPo I have been informed that this is called “code switching.”

Barack Obama got into some serious code switching last week.

He evoked Martin Luther King. He even tried to sound like Martin Luther King.

“There is a frustrating and bewildering wilderness ahead.”

“We must face prodigious hilltops of opposition…and gigantic mountains of resistance.”

Cue the code switch.

“..we will press awn

“Ahm gonna press on”

“ahm gonna press on for equality”

“Ahm gonna press AWN for the sake of all those families who are strugglin’ right now”

“Ah don’t have tahm to feel sorry for mahself”

It sounds so phony. It’s blatant pandering.

What ah wanna know is where did he learn to speak in this Southern drawl?

Was it in Southern Hawaii?

Southern Indonesia?

South Chicago?

South Boston?

South Bronx?

Obama tells blacks to ‘stop complainin’ and fight says the AP headline.

Fight who? March on whom?

Obama would have made a wonderful successor to Jeremiah Wright. Then he could have said what he really wants to say.

“God Damn America!”

The media and a few commentators tried to hide Obama’s verbal affectations by calling it not PC.
Well, too bad.
Seems many are going along these same lines.
This is a new book out:

OBAMA GRAMMAR: Using the President’s Bloopers to Improve Your English [Kindle Edition]
by William Proctor.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

President Barack Obama has consistently been extolled as a great writer and wordsmith, but is this praise justified?

To be sure, the president’s oratory has at times been highly effective.
Many cite his rousing speeches as a major factor in his election in 2008.
But the ability to speak motivationally on occasion does not necessarily imply the ability to use good English – or to be a consistently great orator.

A dissection of President Obama’s speeches and remarks leads to the counterintuitive conclusion that the First Wordsmith is, in fact, an occasional stem-winder who is grammatically challenged – a failing that may in the end limit his ability to communicate at the highest level and to establish an enduring legacy in the upper tier of great presidents.

In OBAMA GRAMMAR, William Proctor, a widely published author, editor and grammar consultant, has analyzed the grammar, usage and rhetoric in President Obama’s speeches and remarks over a one-year period.
These presentations, posted on the White House Web site, include approximately 3000 pages of written text.

Your video reminded me of Hillary Clinton’s ”Ahm no ways tarred,” speech.

If you’re going to be consistent, you should probably be attributing any grammatical errors on the President’s part to his teleprompter.

On a more serious note, our “ineffective” President just crossed Anwar Al-Awlaki’s name off the Enemies of America list.

@Greg:
He has also gotten a lot more Americans killed in Afghanistan:
1. Deny the requested forced necessary to secure the South and the Pak border simultaneously thus allowing the enemy to move and regroup.
2. Announce a withdrawal plan to embolden the enemy so any jihadie who wants to kill an American knows to hurry to Afghanistan.
3. Unilaterally announce a decrease in troop strength despite enemy activity being almost 40% higher than this time last year.
4. The results are as dastardly and they are predictable, more Americans killed and wounded.

Yet you give this POS credit for sitting behind a desk and nodding “OK” after enough people assure him it won’t hurt him in the polls?

I normally leave name calling to the libs, but that’s pathetic.

@Greg: As the utter travesty surrounding the Bin Laden operation illustrates so clearly, strikes against terrorists happen in spite of Obama, not because of him. This is a Commander in Chief who knows nothing about military matters, and does not want to learn about military matters. His subordinates push through appproval of operational plans while he dithers, delays, equivocates, runs for office, sleeps on the matter, and plays golf.

He be baaad Obamma-Gramma

You can’t give this guy credit for anything positive, and blame him for everything negative. This goes way beyond the simple matter of bias, straight across the border and deep into into the territory of the irrational.

@Greg: The evidence is there, Greg. He is disengaged and it’s all being done without him. Credit where credit is due, I say. So, what credit is due to Obama for not preventing something that other people initiated, planned, and carried out?

He is merely present from time to time as the adults plan and decide, and happy to take credit afterwards. His passivity and riding on the work of others is a lifelong trait. What did he contribute to the Harvard Law Review? He wrote nothing, edited nothing, and felt that his occasional magic presence was contribution enough. (Note: The audio link that goes with the transcript at the following site is no longer available – Ms Liebau may have taken some action behind the scenes. She has a career to think about. We may assume that if the account were inaccurate, she would have taken legal action against the many sites that still have the transcript.)

What did he do as a lecturer at the University of Chicago? Nothing much:

It is said that “Each person rises to their own level of incompetence”! This may describe obama to a certain level, but a person who is not so narcissistic would realize what their “level’ is. Obama has a view of himself that he is ‘smarter’ than anyone else so he can say what he wants and us ‘rubes’ will buy it! That is passing quickly! When he self-destructs it may be ugly as he is in a position he does not deserve and cannot handle…….and he knows it deep down……….IT could get weird!!

@Greg:

Whose to say the teleprompter was loaded correctly and he chose the BS was to say it?

He also does a mean muslim/arabic sing song bit. Not surprising in someone birdbrained enough to say the caterwauling call to face plant and ass lift is the most beautiful sound in the world. As opposed to, say, the sound of his CHILDREN’S VOICES.

No Greg, you fool, our MILITARY wiped that murderer off to hell.

He thinks so little of Black Americans that he can fake that jive and pretend to be down with the struggle, and not realize that they know a fake when they see and hear it…
Putting on an accent to talk down to the little people…they are already starting to get tired of his nonsense.

@Greg:
1. He did not sign the anti land mine treaty.
2. He did not shut down Gitmo.
3. He did not prosecute the interrogators who made the Osama kill possible (despite threatening to).

There you go Greggy, credit where due. Otherwise, he’s a waste of oxygen, who has done absolutely nothing to put America first. But then again, he never, ever said he would, now did he?

Please let me know what part of my first post is incorrect? Keep in mind my son is on the front line and I’ve spoken with him directly about this on more than one occasion.

Please point out any single time when Bush denied available resources to the commanders in the field. The please point out one time when Obama actually gave the commanders what they asked for. Yes sir, you can bet your ass I’m well beyond “biased” when it comes to somebody who seems to actively be trying to get my son killed.

Do you think those drones this POS-POTUS uses magically materialized when the oaf took the oath? It takes time to develop, build, and deploy high tech weapons system. Now I wonder what administration did the leg work for that?

While we’re playing trivial pursuit (at which you seem very well endowed), give me the name of a single democrat in federal office since Fulbright who hasn’t tried to gut the military.
