Democrat Governor Suggests Suspending Elections “To Help Country Recover”

Loading

Bryan Preston calls it the Save democracy…by killing democracy theory. Of course her office, and some in the press, are already giving her a pass by calling it a joke but I have yet to see any video to prove she was indeed just “joking”:

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

The Raleigh paper notes “her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea.”

Doesn’t sound like she was joking to me.

And honestly, would it surprise anyone to hear this coming from a leftist? They all believe we should be ruled by those who are more enlightened then us regular folk. Tea party member? Eh, you’re just a dumb racist hick….only those deemed worthy by the MSM and liberal elite should be anywhere near a position of power.

Exit question…how many heads in the MSM would have exploded by now if a conservative had uttered that “joke”?

Has Gov. Beverly Perdue ever bothered to read the US constitution? But then, Democrats see our constitution as something standing in their way.

While Perdue’s suggestion wasn’t intended to be taken seriously, the point she was making about partisan politics getting in the way of solutions certainly was.

What country does she come from??
Did she get elected or was she appointed ? I think Russia , or No. Korea or Iran, et al is where she wants to move to. L.P.

“Perhaps,” Perdue is a little nervous about the temperament of the electorate right now. Is it possible that she sees a bloodbath for the congressional Democrats running in the same election as President Obama.

But why, Ms Perdue, is it so important to allow the present congress and Senate to do their work without fear of retribution from the voters. Is it possible that you think the country will be in a better condition after two years of a Conservative president and Conservative economic policies.

Ms Perdue, I doubt if you will find much support for your idea. It is bad enough to be considered incompetent, without being considered stupid as well.

The majority of the country has been waiting patiently for this revenge election for a long time and we refuse to delay the sweetness of victory one day longer than necessary.

Could it be that you are up for reelection a year from November and fear the indiscriminate voter who pulls the lever for a straight Republican sweep.

Hmmm, perhaps you should consider walking across the aisle before the election.

@Greg:

Perdue’s suggestion wasn’t intended to be taken seriously

Nah….her statement wasn’t meant to be taken seriously… Which is why she went so far as to seek the agreement of others.

Don’t your arms ever get tired from carrying all that water Greg?

“She was just joking.”

Yes, of course. In tense times such as these, with statists battling individualists for the soul of the nation, the savvy leftist politician knows that it’s time to make an easily-misinterpreted, deadpan, to-all-appearances-utterly-serious, ‘joke’ about ending the Republic and replacing it with a dictatorship.

Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue is that savvy politician.

Seasoned pro that she is, she followed through masterfully by leaving it to her subordinates to explain it all away as a bon mot much, much later

@Greg:
Say Greg, if a thief were choking you by the neck until you handed over your money and your freedom, what would you call the disagreement between you and the thief? Mindless partisanship? The thief certainly thinks so. I mean, he’s willing to give back as much money and freedom as he thinks you deserve. Why don’t you do the decent thing and meet him halfway, do some compromising? Good boy.

@Greg: Greg, if a Tea Party Patriot would have said the same thing you would be on your soap box with your toilet bowl brush screaming and hollering at the top of your Kool Aid stained lips.

@Greg: If she where talking about having a Presidential election now I could support that given the failure of our current President.

Let’s compromise:  The democratic party tells there members not to vote for several years.  The republican party tells their people to vote. Those of us who don’t belong to any party will decide on our own whether or not to vote. It would be the perfect compromise.

Why would she seriously suggest suspending elections when the House is currently in the hands of the opposition?

@Greg: #11
You can’t loose an election that isn’t held. No election means everyone in office before, stays in office after.

She was NOT joking.
It was a trial balloon like when Obama wanted to see the reaction to the idea of having military veterans pay their own medical.
Today another trial balloon went up: Obama’s old director of the Office of Management and Budget, Peter Orszag sent it up.
He wants more Obama policy enacted (OOPS! Forget the term, ”enacted,” just put into place).
ORSZAG:

“To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions.
In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.”

So far one person bit….Greg.
He’s all for it…..being only a joke, that is.

These two are not kidding.

@Greg:

Why would she seriously suggest suspending elections when the House is currently in the hands of the opposition?

This is what we call a “floating a trial balloon.”

@Nan G: You beat me to it, Nan. When two of these things pop up like this, clearly something is afoot. One wonders who asked them to say such a thing.

One also wonders who would force a car company to stop airing an accurate ad.

Let’s just hope it wasn’t a trial ballon for Obama suspending elections!

The way I see it, there are only two ways (outside of massive fraud) for Obama to stay in power. One would be to declare martial law and suspend elections (actually not that far fetched if he is successful in his class warfare to agitate the average American to “get up off the couch” and take to the streets). The other way, is for HIM to appeal Obamacare (you know, in one of those “best interest for you speeches), about 2 months or so before the election.

Obama is now purely “toxic” to anyone running for relection associated with him in even the least way.

How about we suspend any new laws and EPA rulings for two years… And a freeze (if not a cut) on all gubmint wages & benefits? Let’s ground AF1 too!

Personally, I think this was a trial balloon by the Obama campaign to see how the public would react. Because I do not believe that any politician in the United States would be actually stupid enough to say such a thing. I hope the good folks of NC get rid of this skanky governor.

Dems often try to hide or excuse their hate/statist speech by saying they were kidding. This is a prime example of that.

Let’s not forget how many times Obie has said that he wishes he had the power to do things without Congress being involved….

Here’s audio of Gov. Purdue and her “joke”. I don’t hear a punch line in there anywhere.

Do you?

@Greg: Greg, obviously you didn’t actually hear her say what she did. There is nothing to indicate she was not serious. I’m not surprised of your comments though. You are consistent. Sadly consistently wrong.

@Greg:

Several points, Greg;

While Perdue’s suggestion wasn’t intended to be taken seriously

After watching the video Aye has posted, it is apparent that it is a serious suggestion by her. I have to agree with others who’ve posted in this topic who call it a “trial balloon”.

the point she was making about partisan politics getting in the way of solutions certainly was.

As Mata and others have posted elsewhere, solutions have been offered by the GOP in the house at a much higher rate, and legislation voted on in the house at a much higher rate, than Reid is allowing in the Senate. Do you wish for that to continue? Or, do you wish for the GOP to stop initiating their own legislation and support the ideology of the left?

Is it only the “partisan politics” of the right that you are worried about?

Liberal progs have a propensity to excuse, explain away, ignore, and dare I say lie to cover their stupidity. Bev stepped in it, and now her minions are telling us her shoes smell like rose petals. BS. A liberal mind is a terrible thing to waste. Please support the United Prog College Fund.

A better and full proof solution would be to load all governing Democrats on a barge and tow it to Antartica. A milder season is humanely forthcoming.

@Art: #24
What has Antarctica done to us that you want to punish them so severely?

@Buffalobob: #23

A liberal mind is a terrible thing to waste.

That should be “A liberal mind is waste.”

@FedUp: #17
I second the motion.

@Smorgasbord: The penguins might find them entertaining, but I hadn’t taken the toxic aspect into mind.

So…

Greg defends this notion from a Democrat… but what if it was spoken by the words of George Bush, Jr?
Still a Tyrant move, no matter who spoke it. This woman is a threat to this Federal Republic.

@Art: Actually, it would be next to impossible to get a gore off the barge of true believers.

@Mr. Irons: #29
Thanks for calling the USA the republic that it is. If someone asks us why we call it a republic, we can tell them. We can also tell them why the propaganda media calls it a democracy.

gregs obviously correct, I mean what a hoot, it was such a funny joke! I mean really thats hysterical! lets suspend our constitution! wow I havent laughed that hard in years! whoooooo. man got to catch my breath.

yeah she’s just following in the footsteps of histories other great commiedeians like:

“lets kill all the white farmers” mugabe
that master of comedy timing- che “kill the capitalist pigs children too, so they dont grow up to fight us later” guevera
b-list commiedian bill “we’re gonna have to exterminate 27 million unre-educatable americans in death camps” ayers.
and that old school gangsta of commiedy lenin who had these hillarious jokes and one liners:

“The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.”
“It is necessary — secretly and urgently to prepare the terror.”
“(hang without fail, so the people see) no fewer than one hundred known kulaks, rich men, bloodsuckers.”

and the funny man himself master of cerimonies:
uncle joe “The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.” stalin
he also penn’d this gem all good leftists live by~~ “Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don’t allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?”

yeah…. funny stuff….

@Art: #28
You shouldn’t want something in someone else’s back yard that you don’t want in your own.

I find it funny that liberals are all about doing away with the limitations of government.

Hell, I remember during the last year or two of George W. Bush’s term, liberals were claiming there would be a false flag event so that he could call off elections and make himself “King George”. However, as I told people at the time, it would never happen. And yet people of the leftist ilk are defending someone who is saying “elections shouldn’t matter, just keep us here to fix it without ‘repercussions'”.

Sounds like someone is looking for an excuse to push through an agenda without worrying about those pesky little voters to me.

Just another necessary action to complete this “fundamental transformation of the United States of America,” promised by the communist-in-chief, a week before the election. I still can’t help to suspect that the goal of the current president is to be the last president of the U.S. Present goal to become chairman of confederated soviet states of amerika and it’s miniature supreme soviets. Rumcrook, your one-liners were awesome. Especially, your choices for “Uncle Joe” Stalin. It would really be interesting to do a county-by-county breakdown of the election returns for of the 23 counties in N.C. Can’t help but to suspect that it would be similar to that of Glorious People’s Republic of Illinois, and it’s moonbat governor. This revealed interesting results. Perhaps N.C., like Illinois, is really also a red state, with just the little exception of the most populous county. And, perhaps we can even find similarities in the particular brand of voting of equipment used in that county. Just wondering…..

I suspect a plan is in the works, for unions and other organized leftist protest groups to start up riots in selected areas during the elections. With increased violence and in your face intimidation. This keeps happening until it is decided to stop the elections and simply continue the good-ole guys and girls already in office. The political machine just installs the incumbents. ignoring the will of the people for the safety and orderly process of appointment.

Ditto,

I don’t think they will call off elections due to some riots/protests.

That’s a little far fetched. It kind of reminds me of the leftists claiming that Bush would create a false flag event and call off elections.

Simply put, while there may be a lot of backlash against Obama losing (and in some ways, I expect a lot of people to riot over it), I don’t see Obama breaking tradition with an order transition from power. Perhaps they will take all the O’s off the keyboards?

@chipset:

I don’t think they would succeed, but after the 2010 elections, and with the economy and joblessness being on par with the Great Depression, democrats know that 2012 doesn’t look good at all for their chances to retain power. The point here is that if the Democrats get desperate enough they may try this despotic tactic, after arranging with their community organizing stooges to create riot situations. There is no doubt that the radicals are trying to stir up social unrest for this election, following right in line with Saul Alyski. Progressives have been using the tactics of planned mob intimidation for years, and with a media that tends to show sympathy for lawless and even violent protest on the left, while painting peaceful Tea Party protesters as dangerous racists, The radicals very well may up the ante.
