Obama kills investigation getting too close for comfort [Reader Post]

Barack Obama wants to crush an investigation that’s getting too close to him and some really close friends:

Attorney General of N.Y. Is Said to Face Pressure on Bank Foreclosure Deal

Eric T. Schneiderman, the attorney general of New York, has come under increasing pressure from the Obama administration to drop his opposition to a wide-ranging state settlement with banks over dubious foreclosure practices, according to people briefed on discussions about the deal.

Say What? 8/24/2011 Edition [Reader Post]

Chris Matthews: “Aren’t you worried, though, that in a world where we have to compete with science, in science and technology with Chinese and Indian young geniuses, and some of them move here, and some that are still over in their countries around the world, we’re competing in a world of science and technology to be a country that might be led by someone who doesn’t believe in evolution? Who doesn’t believe in climate change? Who doesn’t believe in the scientific community of his own country, the National Academy of Science, for example, on climate change? Wouldn’t that be kind of scary to have somebody who is so anti-intellectual as president?” Continue reading

The Politics of Assumptions [Reader Post]

Today we hear about deficit reduction budgets from both sides of the aisle. But what is never discussed are the economic assumptions that accompany deficit reduction budgets. Here is a very good article by James Pethokoukis about economic assumptions and their affects on projections. This post draws heavily upon his article. Continue reading

Have The “Rebels” Won In Libya? Not So Fast…..

Sure doesn’t sound like the “rebels” have won

A nervous limbo, punctuated by gunfire, took hold of Libya’s capital Monday, one day after opponents of Col. Moammar Gadhafi rolled triumphantly into the central square here—damping hopes by rebels and their international allies that the strongman’s supporters would melt away.

Obama White House – Biden Meant The Opposite When He Said He “Understood” China’s One-Child Policy

You just had to know this administration was going to pull these kind of acrobatics regarding the Vice President’s remarks on China’s “one-child” policy: As I mentioned in my previous post, I contacted the White House this afternoon for an … Continue reading

Conservatives want SMALL government, not NO government…[Reader Post]

Conservatives are constantly being accused of wanting no government. When we talk about wanting to eliminate things like the IRS, the Departments of Energy and Education or rein in rouge agencies like the EPA and the NLRB we are accused of wanting no government at all. That’s simply false. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a conservative speak about wanting to eliminate all government, or even the federal government.

Most conservatives understand that the absence of functional government brings chaos. In an environment where chaos reigns, at some point someone will step in and impose order. That person or group then becomes the de facto government. Perhaps the clearest example of this in recent history was the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in the mid 1990’s. Continue reading

Electric car owners are in for a huge shock [Reader Post]

Electrifying, even.

It’s said that the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions. People buy electric cars for many reasons- saving the environment and cost savings versus the price of gas are usually the most common. Soon they are going to find themselves in fiscal hell thanks to Barack Obama. And that’s the good news. Continue reading

Rick Perry’s Cowboy Boots Versus Obama’s Marxist Gum Boots

My intellectual mentors were two of the most unlikely characters you can imagine. They were both immigrants to Peace River Country from Europe. They were both well read and primarily self-taught learned men, who knew the classics and were prepared to argue politics, religion, or literature with any man walking the earth.

Todd or Tadeusz Podbereski, a huge Pole who stood six foot six and weighed well over 300 pounds, was a devout Catholic who brooded over Homer’s Illiad and could recite several of Shakespeare’s plays and most of the bible from memory. He could never resist the opportunity to assume the role of Falstaff, Shakespeare’s irreverent, glutton, bawdy, profane, drunken, mooching, liar monk: he would abandon his thick Polish accent and employ the overly theatrical method of a Shakespearian actor, in country stores and humble cabins, he’d quote passages that pertained to the daily discourse of almost any situation. Even the most stoic and unromantic watched in silent awe as Todd applied his thespian skills to illustrate an obscure point of conversation.

NASA Scientist Assumes Extraterrestrials Are Progressive Environmental Nitwits In Agreement With Al Gore

Extraterrestrials may be forced to take drastic measures after they have observed the damage we have done to our planet. Al Gore will surely be placed in charge. A Scientist with NASA feels aliens may be upset and launch a pre-emptive strike as a compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases. Conversely, if we were to take drastic actions, perhaps by putting Al Gore in charge of regulating our carbon footprint, extraterrestrial beings will be more inclined not to launch a strike.
