Let Them Know

Have a great Fourth of July,
think of our troops now and again
You see, fireworks mean they might die
Give pause to think what might have been

If not for those brave souls who stand
so that we patriots and cowards alike
Can sleep and dream in this great land
And play with kids on wobbly bikes

Pray for them who ask so little, yet give so much
While they walk point in Obama’s manmade Hells
Yet Obama says they must beg for a mere crutch
And pay their own insurance to guard their health

While he flies with dauntless courage in Air Force One
Tirelessly on guard to protect us each and everyone
But please let them know there are those among us
Who love them and would never throw them under the bus

  1. Thanks Skookum! We enjoyed that! I liked the part, “for patriots and cowards alike”. Though at times like back in the Vietnam war, and after that war when hate and discrimination was openly practiced against military people and their families, and in these current wars as well I still get mad as hell at the cowards who never seem to understand that our military gives them that right. It’s akin to the dog that bites the hand that feeds it. Happy 4th! Skookum! keep em coming

Thanks Gary, I woke up this morning and was worried that there wasn’t going to be a patriotic response from FA; I should have had more faith in the crew. Poetry is natural for me, so it was very easy to throw this together. I am glad that it brought you a small measure of comfort.

To one of our Gold Star families, Happy 4th, my friend!

Thank You for the Poem Skookum…this brought tears to my eyes. Thankfully there are many who really do understand who fought and sacrificed for the Freedoms we have…

God Bless America and our Troops…

Good post. Everyone still seems to forget what the 4th, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day stand for. Here is a tribute a 15 year old girl put together who hasn’t forgotten.

Here in AZ a few places had fireworks on the 2nd instead of the 4th. Apparently it was more ‘”convenient” than doing it on the 4th.
A lot of our soldiers fought in conditions ranging from freezing cold to blistering hot while wearing 60 pounds of gear or more. Yet on the appointed day, some can’t be bothered to honor them and their sacrifice which set us free and has kept us that way.
May God bless and protect our soldiers.

    @Skookum: and Bees,

The amazing thing is that it was a 15 year old who put it together. She has more pride in her country and appreciation for the sacrifices being made than most adults. As HR pointed out, some can’t be bothered to honor those who sacrifice. Kind of ties into the other thread about the Declaration of Independence and whether or not those today would make similar sacrifices to preserve their freedoms.
