American Russians Leaving Socialist Leaning Cities [Reader Post]

I saw this when Googling the blogs today. Interesting in many ways, but it really ties in with something I wrote back in August which should be a warning as to how far this country has edged towards the very Socialistic government that these people fled from.

Many Russian immigrants to the “red borough” of Staten Island are flocking to the Republican Party, saying that the national Democrats’ “socialistic” policies remind them too much of the top-down oligarchy they fled in their native land.

With many of the borough’s Russian arrivees already owning businesses and active in civic organizations, their muscle could help the Island GOP solidify electoral gains made this year, when the party took back congressional and Assembly seats.

Businessman Arkadiy Fridman said that the newly formed Citizens Magazine Business Club, a confederation of more than 50 Russian-owned businesses here and in Brooklyn, has aligned itself with the Molinari Republican Club (MRC) in an effort to increase the Russian community’s political and economic clout.

~~~
In the wake of the national GOP’s big wins this year, when the party took back control of the House, Republicans everywhere are more confident that their bedrock message of smaller government and lower taxes will resonate with American voters.
Fridman said that the Democrats “are going in an absolutely different direction,” focusing on “income redistribution” and rich-versus-poor “class war.”
~~~

The Big Brother approach reminds Fridman too much of what he left behind in the former Soviet Union.

“It’s the same rule like it was there,” said Fridman, who estimates there are around 55,000 Russian immigrants here.

Michael Petrov of the Digital Edge data management firm in Bloomfield, said that he objects to the “micro-managing of the economy” he’s seen from city as well as federal officials.

“Government is affecting small business more and more,” said Petrov, who came to the United States in 1994. “It’s the same as what’s happening in Russia.”

~~~
Reflecting the American Dream ideal that has drawn immigrants here since the county’s founding, Storovin said that many Russians are “grateful” for the religious, business and travel freedoms the United States provide, and want to show it.
“We do feel patriotic,” Storovin said.
Now, here is what I wrote back in August as to a close friend of mine and on this very subject.
“A good friend of mine here in Vegas is from the old Soviet Union. He was lucky to get out years ago and loves his new country dearly. When we talk about this, he always asks the same thing. “Can’t we as a country see what we are doing to ourselves? Can’t we learn from past history? Could it be that we as a country now do not believe in our own principles?
He asks this and states as follows. “I lived the horror in Russia. I’ve seen what Marxist Socialism can do to a people. I have seen it rob the will to succeed and in fact the will to live! When I lived there, the U.S. was the beacon of hope. Now, I fear that the “I wants” of our country have lost track of that.”
He went on to say that the leadership he is witnessing now is every bit as deplorable as where he came from. He sees the beginning of the same lies, the same anti-free speech rhetoric and the same despite for free will now, in this country, as he did then. Funny, isn’t it? A lecture from someone from another country who loves our country more then her native born citizens! In all reality, it’s a harsh indictment on this Anti-American administration and it’s sheer ignorance of our basic principles.”
This dovetails very nicely with the story I read this morning about this country’s TEXODUS.
……
$846 million in personal income shifted from New York to Texas in an eight-year period during the last decade, according to an analysis of IRS tax returns.
……
The fading Empire State came up short and lost two seats thanks to its sluggish population growth of 2.1 percent, compared with the national average of 9.7 percent.
“People aren’t moving down to those Sunbelt states for the weather,” said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of the Business Council of New York State.
“It’s three things: taxes, taxes and taxes.”
…..
I just hope these New Yawkers don’t turn states like Texas into leftist dreams after the leftist nightmare they barely escaped.
Obama is a one trick pony….his pony “Social Justice”. He doesn’t think of himself as a socialists, but a person who will right the wrongs committed by those persons and America against the weak, minorities, countries we have exploited and decimated, our use of the bomb etc. Anybody who earns over $250,000 will be paying for his plan….right the wrongs. He doesn’t care about economics nor does he understand economics, he cares little for life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness….he knows the “social Justice” menu, from his Mother, her parents, his father, Rev Wright, Van Jones and all the others he surrounded himself with, it is his thing and his only thing. He is so angry at Bush because Bush had the audacity to leave office with a messy slate. He hoped to get the slate Clinton left Bush. But instead he got two wars, and a mega failing economy. Anything that has brought this country wealth is out because it was gotten by ill begotten means. If you are rich you stole from someone and must pay it back. He will heal the past with tons of free stuff paid for by the “rich”, bring in a new and moral economy that will benefit those who have been left out in the past. To do this he is going to have to do a lot of dictating, this is where the socialists label comes in. It is just a buy product of his agenda, “Social Justice”, the new and moral America, made by Barrack Obama.
Its pretty much the same story in Sacramento Ca, which for some reason has a large Russian community.
Russians here in America should know that from which they escaped. The proverbial canary in the coal mine.
I lived half of my life in a Communist country and what is stated here is true, this is every bit like the totalitarian, repressive regime I left behind. I have been fearing and warning people of this for 30 decades now and I was labeled crazy. All of the signs are there. However, the one part in which I wholeheartedly disagree with you is as to who is responsible for this mess. The Left has gone along, aided and abetted and just guilty of doing nothing to stop, however, the blame is to be placed squarely on the Reich Wing. You people have no idea how you personify that which you fear/hate so much. I’m also willing to bet that if you speak to some who lived under Nazi Germany, they will tell you exactly the same. The Democrat Party is now the Republican Party. And the Republican Party is the Nazi Party. You people are one scary bunch! If you are not stopped, this country will become worse than anything seen before and the world will have no choice but to do to you what was done to Germany. Watch history, study it and don’t repeat it. You’re being pawned!
