Thanks Mr President, I am Your Enemy

An Open Letter To President Obama

Dear Mr President,

Many of us are outraged that you consider us your enemy; not me, I’m proud to be your enemy.

No, not the type who wants to put you in the cross-hairs at 800 meters: I am an American who loves his Freedom and his Country with its traditions. Sure, I have my doubts concerning the citizenry that would elect a Marxist for President, but most of them aren’t old enough to have seen the devastation among the warriors who returned home from WWII, Korea, and Indo China: I am.

As a child, I cowered and listened to the men as they sat around tables and drank; some yelled and ranted, some talked quietly with tear streaked cheeks, some said nothing at all; they shared their pain, a pain that scared us children.

One Korean vet marched daily down a gravel road a few miles from my home; every day he marched with a ramrod stiff cadence that none of the rest of us heard. Everyone tried to ignore his strange behavior; they said he was shell shocked and in time he would get better, but he marched and marched down through the years.

One day I went away and wore the uniform; on my return home, years later, I was driving past him in my work truck and I snapped him a sharp salute. He returned the salute and kept marching. I felt humiliated for what I had done. I knew nothing about the man, except that he was a shell shocked veteran from either Korea or WWII. He may have been an officer, I still don’t know to this day, but for the rest of the time I worked around home, he saluted me every time I drove past him. He was a Canadian Mr President; however, he contracted his problem fighting alongside our American Patriots who were fighting to keep this country free of tyrants and he pays for that past honor by endlessly marching and I hope he is still able to march to this day, because we are losing those Patriots at a tremendous rate Mr President. Patriots who put their life on the line and accepted their fate to keep us free from tyranny.

Today we have a new generation of Patriots, who are putting everything on the line to fight tyranny and for our way of life that we so loosely describe as Freedom, thank G-d we have them. There is not a day that I don’t think of them and wish them well. They have such a difficult job, fighting a politically correct war with dubious and self-defeating Rules of Engagement; your Rules of Engagement, that accomplish nothing, besides providing assistance to our enemy and the shedding of American and Allied blood.

On a more personal note Mr President, just so you know, I am on the ropes financially; just the type of citizen that would-be tyrants need to implement authoritarian and totalitarian forms of Dystopia. I had an extremely successful business ten years ago, but a divorce and being caught in the mortgage fiasco at a point when I needed a large sum of money, complicated by the downturn in the economy has nearly ruined me financially. Yes, I am a perfect candidate to trust in a tyrant for assistance, but don’t look to me or millions of others to sell out our souls and Freedom for a yoke of Socialist slavery. I might die broke and homeless, but I will die a Free man.

Yes Mr President, I am your worst enemy: I am a man who Loves Freedom.

Skook,
Incredibly well said and Thank You for your service.
Tim

Amen!

Well said, sir. Thank You for your service.

Skook,

Your letter brought back memories of a man from my childhood. In the late fifties, we had just such a veteran in our small southern town. As I would walk to school each morning, I would always see him hurrying down the sidewalk in front of the hotel where he resided. He was a tall man but was almost skeletal. He kept his pants legs rolled up several inches above his shoes and he never had socks on. He always carried with him a rolled up paper sack. The sack was greatly worn. All the kids were curious as to what was in that sack. I was always a little frightened whenever I saw him, because all I knew was what my mother and the other adults had said –he was shell shocked from the war. I didn’t really know what that meant at the time, but your letter brought back all those memories of him. Today, as an adult, I now know that poor soul must have been living in a terrible nightmare that no one could possibly imagine. I’ve always supported our men and women in uniform because I undstand that patriots died in order to give us the freedoms we enjoy today. Freedom is not free!

Thank you so much for your service.

Well said, I’m sure Greg will come up with some lame reason to criticize but then again after today ne is in the minority. I like being the enemy, I sleep better at night.

SKOOKUM,you have written the same words that many had in their mind to say,
if they learned what the PRESIDENT said, he came up with it so easy, so fast,
It show his mind no matter how he try to fix it, and step on the pride of AMERICA
THE GREATEST NATION ON THE GLOBE. WHAT’S left of him now,only dust,
but AMERICA will live on and the patriots will never forget and forgive.
thank you for your talent given to us so freely,you are A patriot to follow and respect. bye

well said! it makes me think about the speech that braveheart gave about freedom in the movie. he told them yes you can run but you’ll never get the chance again for freedom and lying in your beds years from now what will you remember.

St. Crispen’s Day Speech: William Shakespeare, 1599

Enter the KING

WESTMORELAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING. What’s he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call’d the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian.’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say ‘These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.’
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
Make him a member of the gentry, even if he is a commoner.
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

For Some of Us every day is St. Crispens Day. For America’s Second Greatest Generation, that comprises only 3% of the Population of the US but represent the US with Pride, every day fades into a blur like water colors in a rain. Some on third and fourth deployments have taken more risks, assumed more responsibility and have given more to the Nation than the Majority of Congress, the POTUS, the VP or any of the Current Regime can imagine in their wildest dreams.

The Veterans of WWII are leaving US by the Hundreds daily as are the Korean War Veterans. Vietnam Era and Combat Vets are seeing a thinning of their Ranks as well. The last time I visited Kuwait enroute to Iraq, there was a message on the wall at a Camp scribbled with a broad tipped black marker pen that has been quoted in the Media and it states that…”America is at the Mall, the Marine Corps is at War”.

On a bulletin board in Iraq at an FOB there was a quote that stands out in my mind…”Have a Plan to Kill Everyone You Meet”. It was an Army Infantry unit, a Stryker BCT unit that was the QRF (Quick Reaction Force) for Iraqi Police Stations that were constant targets for insurgents.

I am currently in the DC area on Temporary Active Duty, recalled from retirement again. A walk through the National Cemetery at Arlington gives me inspiration and a chance to visit old friends that will never get any older.

My point being, Mr Obama has traveled overseas apologizing for the arrogance of America, has no concept of the courage, loyalty and strength of character that generations of Americans took with them to liberate Europe twice, stand vastly outnumbered in Germany during the Cold War, kick the Cubans out of Grenada, intervene in Somalia, the Balkans, the Middle East twice, go to Afghanistan to drive the Taliban out and end Saddam’s tenure in Iraq. His sense of gratitude is just flat out nonexistent. His sacrifice for the Nation is nonexistent,. He quite frankly has NOTHING invested in this Country.

I can honestly say that in my experience there can be no better Friend than a Veteran, JF Kerry not included. If Defense of the Nation, Defense of Our Allies, halting genocide in both the Balkans and Iraq embarrasses him and makes Me his Enemy, He has to stand in line.

@ Skookum, nothing works better than the truth and you portray it better than most here at FA.
To be honest here, Skookum’s tales are grand, stuff that you just can’t make up. If having led a colorful life is a crime, he is not alone here. Some of Us just don’t tell it as well.

Skook- Great story, and yes I too am his worst enemy,and i cherish my freedom and willing to fight for it. Thank you for your service and honor for this great REPUBLIC. God bless my friend.

Thank you OT, the soliloquy from Henry V is perfect for this day.

I invite all of you who have trouble understanding this one to try and wade through it 2 or 3 times until you capture the essence. It is straight forward compared to most work from the bard and is probably the inspiration for the soliloquy from Brave Heart.

For me it is so touching that it pulls at my heart.

I just dislocated my right shoulder while taking a shower and OT can imagine what that will be like in my line of work; consequently, we who are less than what we once were, must do what we can for those Patriots of yesterday and the ones in the trenches and on the wall fighting for their lives and ours, as we watch the voting results. Whether you just read and evaluate, write commentary, or compose articles we must be willing to give it everything we have. Ours is a bloodless war, but it is a critical front that we must control: we must do our part for those who risk so much more, it is the least we can do.

Thanks OT, for everything.

SKOOKUM, so sorry to hear that, YOU’LL have to wear a shoulder strapping for the day and not at
night,other wise you will worsen the healing and slow it down, so that mean some patience,
and self restraint for a month,and you cannot compromise,
bye

OLD TROOPER 2: now that SKOOKUM mentioned it I admit, I will have to read ST CRISPIN a few times more than the average person, IT was an interesting story thank you, bye

Ms Bees, Agincourt was a major battle between England and France during the Hundred Years War. The English scored a major victory against superior forces with the English King fighting hand to hand in the ranks beside his men.

Supposedly this is where the one fingered salute that people use in major city traffic originated. The French were very wary of English Long bowmen, a weapon so deadly that some theorized it would make war so horrible that war would become obsolete; consequently, the French would cut off the right middle finger of the right hand of any captured English so that could not pull back the mighty English longbow. This intensified the English rancor against the French and truthfully, those Brits can be really mean at times.

When the English archers surprised the French at Agincourt and had them surrounded, they all raised their right hands and displayed the middle finger before the slaughter began. At least that is the story and I think it is true.

#15: Thanks for the anecdote. I had never heard it before, although Henry V is one of my favorites, too.

@ Ms Bees…

This story shall the good man teach his son;

The Band of Brothers started then at Agincourt. It is the heritage of that battle that Wm. Shakespeare passed on to me at about the age of 10 when I rode my horse to the small library in town to read up on the Classics and check out a few books. A Library Card was Gold!

We took it further to “No One Left Behind” in my time of Service and to that We are Honor Bound. Now take note: The CiC that sends Us is not Honor Bound but We are. The Bond is for Life for US but for the Temporary resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue it is not so much.

Memorial Day = Honor Dead Veterans, Beer and BBQ optional. Wreath laying at Arlington = a Photo Op.

Veterans Day = Honor Living Veterans, watch a Parade, gather up with fellow Veterans and remember the Fallen over drinks, tears optional.

OLD TROOPER 2; THEY will always be remember by the best who are continuing their unfinish work,
and the best who appreciate the FREEDOM they have provided since the beginning of AMERICA,
AND tears will flow to clean up the wrong doing of the other who foolishly forget who gave
THEIR hearth and soul for this AMERICA QUEEN of the GLOBE,RETURNING from the darkness,
they try to put her forever, and her people said no you CANT.

I have read through this commentary at least a dozen times and a dozen times it has brought tears to my eyes. It is an honor to serve with all of you.

Skookum, thank you for the simple eloquence of your words. Thank you for saying so poignantly and powerfully what so many of us think.

And thank you for your service to our country.

From the proud daughter of a US Navy Commander, and proud mother of a US Air Force 2nd Lieutenant.

Hey Skookum,

Thank you for your service and for protecting our freedom.

Dude, just take your stories and notes to an editor and get them published. Your tales are wonderful and your book will do great. I know you could me down for a half dozen.

Dude, just take your stories and notes to an editor and get them published.

I second that MM. I think you could put a whole lot of us down for a half dozen copies.

CURT: HI, that would make such a nice HOLLYDAY GIFT

Skook,

You keep knocking them out of the park. You have a well honed skill with which you dig down at critical elements in human nature, and yang them to the fore, . . . and there is never doubt of your feelings, or perceptions. Magically you guide your readers through a surgical procedure, while striking chords that resonate with the deepest emotions. MM and Curt are right on message.

Re: “I might die broke and homeless, but I will die a Free man.”

As I commented to O.T. in another post, one of the palpable differentiating elements in some writers/commenters here at F.A., is that they cannot be bought. Such confidence is a powerful energy which a majority of your fellow human beings wish they could exhibit now and then.

Get well, and keep ’em comin’.

I just emailed a good friend, whom I introduced to this site a few months ago:

“This is why I read Skookum@FA. He is a wise and honorable man, far more so than I.”

and added a link to this post.

I do this often when I read your posts, Skookum. You make this site more fruitful than you probably even know. God bless you and keep you. He’s already blessed you, that is evident, for through your writing I, and many others, are blessed. You are a CONDUIT, a fibre-optic cable through which God’s light shines. I pray that we may all be so, but I also know that I shall never approach. One day I wish to shake your hand, and share a thought or two. God bless you.

You will never be truly homeless, and you have a Home waiting for you. A Mansion, with many rooms. My God says so. Not yet, though. Many more amazing miles for you, before this.

More tears here too, you did it again Skook and thanks to all others that offered such valuable commentary, wonderful people in here.

I will always be grateful for what all of our patriots have done and continue to do, traded guns for keyboards, still watching the backs of our warriors on the front lines. Heroes all!

You will never have to be homeless, we will always have a place for you Skook, just don’t expect boiled meat, take care and let that shoulder heal.

Good reading as always!

Veterans day should be a holiday only for vets.

Their absences from the work place a reminder to all those that have not serve. Instead… now days our veterans labor in private industry while every public employee that has never served takes the day off without a second thought to the sacrifice of those the day is supposed to honor!

Thank You DonaldBly…

Good Point!

I have taken the liberty of forwarding around!

Skookum always hits a nerve (of the most heartwarming kind), and elicits the most appropriate and profound commentary. I am proud to serve with him in this bloodless battle, and proud to recommend his work to everyone I know.

Hope your shoulder rebounds quickly, Skook.

Ditto the requests for advance copies of that first book. Just let me know where to get in line.

After the towers of the world trade center were destroyed and our men and women in uniform were once again called to war, I felt a need to create a tribute to their service. Our family, myself, my wife and my son, created the following song lyrics. My son Brian White put the lyrics to music and recorded the song. Now I’m no Shakespeare but the message is heartfelt. As soon as I figure out how to rip the cd from cda to wmv I’ll put a link up so everyone can hear the song in finished form.

Man of the House
Lyrics by Donald Bly and family
Performed by Brian White

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was only four years old
I couldn’t tell you why
my daddy’s going off to war
and all I did was cry
Before he left he picked me up
and he held me tight
He said
“Son, you’ll be the man of the house,
for a little while”
Remember to clean your room
and make your momma smile
I love you more than anything
and you’re always, always,
in my dreams
Three hundred letters later
he walked back through the door
He picked me up and hugged me
and I saw, the ribbons he wore
And I’m so glad to see you daddy;
are you home to stay?
He smiled and gave me my first baseball glove
and said,
“Come on son, let’s go play”
Two towers came crashing down,
a nation cried in pain
My dad, and all his friends
were called to war again
Before he left he shook my hand
and held me tight
and said,
“Son you’ll be the man of the house,
for a little while”
The flag on his coffin
was red, white and blue
He’d given his all
for me
and for you
When I was four, I didn’t know why
I understand now:
for the flag flying high
for the townsfolk I live with
for the people I love
for the day that my dad brought me home
my first baseball glove
My uniform is pressed
and in the mirror I can see
a brave man,
my dad,
looking back at me
As I look at his face
his words ring true in my ear
“Son you’ll be the man of the house
and I’ll always be near”
My sincerest thank you to all those that have served and to those that have paid the ultimate price… my utmost respect.
DONALD BLY: WOW, IT’S PERFECT, and I love the visual work, and It’s okay to have tears
on this one, thank you and BRIAN WHITE did It to reach your demand,
A GEM . bye
HOW”S your book coming, you could insert it with your book as a CD.
Thanks for the compliment Bees, I’m glad you liked it… The song hasn’t been heard but by a handful of people as it was recorded in our living room. I have one copy on CD which is usually in my car. It was always meant as a tribute so if you want to share it with others feel free.
Nice Donald, I had no idea you were a musician as well. It’s kinda sad, but I am afraid it’s being played out in so many American homes.
Skookum… I’m not a musician… more of a “producer” but I did do the lyrics on that piece. One of my past entrepreneurial endeavors was a digital music distribution company. Over two years we built the business to 12,000 artists, 100,000 songs and 4 million page views a month.
Now my son is a really talented musician, but he can’t seem to get a song written and recorded without the “old man” beating him up every step of the way. Apparently, it’s never good enough to finish… that’s when I step in… to help him “get ‘er done”
Skookum…. things have been turning around. I managed to buy an older mfg home in a 55 plus park for $1500 down and $250 a month for 13 months and it’s completely paid. I got the owner to carry the contract and the lot rent is real reasonable. The bank is getting my condo back via a “strategic foreclosure” – I’m $40,000 upside down at a minimum with a 9.65% interest rate. It isn’t worth keeping. I guess that’s what they call “moral hazard”.
I have signed up two new poker leagues and am now operating in WA, TN and TX – The plan is coming together. With the conservatives taking a big step forward I feel more confident in going out and seeking new business.
DonaldBly: I must take note of your last 2 lines on your last comment,
WITH the CONSERVATIVES TAKING A
BIG STEP FORWARD i FEEL CONFIDENT IN GOING OUT AND SEEKING NEW BUSINESS.
that IS THE WAY PEOPLE WILL ACT NOW AND IT WILL HELP THE NEW JOBS TO BE CREATED AND MORE GOODIES WITH CONFIDENT PEOPLE, THAT IS THE MAGIC OF THE CREATIVITY AND THE CREATION. i AM SO GLAD YOU MENTIONNED THOSE 2 LINES. BYE
Don, hopefully, that will be a mirror image of small time guys like you and me all across America. Congratulations on the turn around, give the Mrs a hug from me and tell her I am real happy for you guys! Skook
DonaldBly,
Re: #37 – Good to see that you have figured your way through a labyrinth and found a solution that will stabilize you and your family, as you find your way to recovery.
I’ve been asked endless times over the years how to protect capital, or how to financially build safely for the future, and the acquisition of a manufactured home you have just completed, is exactly the kind of “acquisition” I have promoted along the way, not only to anyone who would listen but to my family members, and business associates.
The advice went something like this:
. . . Acquire it, as early in life as you can, and never sell IT, no matter how much your wealth grows, or how large your homes become in the never-ending games of keeping up with Jones, or accumulation of things. (The IT could also be the first one bedroom apartment, or bachelor suite you ever purchase.) When I say “acquire” I mean pay it off as rapidly as possible, so that infers that payments have to be very much within the means. Never listen to financial advisors/consultants who try to convince you that since your mortgage interest is deductible, you should “finance.” They’ve done so for fifty years. Ignore that advice, absolutely. Protect IT, perhaps by placing IT in an irrevocable trust, or place it in trust with an Unexposed, close relative, or through other means, so that no one can ever, ever come knocking on your door after tripping on a garden hose, or you missed a few payments at the bank, or after some clever circumventing argument is made in court by an ambulance chaser whose client might have been your employee, or . . . etc. etc.
When your cash flow or capital reach a point at which you can comfortably afford a larger home, great, move and enjoy the larger roof over your head, but don’t sell IT. Rent IT, lend IT, leave IT empty but don’t sell IT. If fortune really smiles on you along your path, acquire another one or two and protect them, never to be sold, or exposed to the vagaries of egos, greed or stupidity.
If and when some serious sh*t happens when life throws some really serious learning curves, and we lose our fortunes, or business, or businesses, or jobs, and most of our cash flows, . . . we won’t end up on the proverbial park bench.
All best wishes in your efforts – they will absolutely bring you some joy, and much freedom from anxiety.
As I mentioned on an earlier post, “I am proud to be an enemy of Obama,” and I hope to be one through the 2012 battle.
SKOOKUM
I am so glad to come back here, in 2010 and ON NOVEMBER, IT MUST BE A CALL
FOR THIS 2012 NOVEMBER,
thank you for having me and other to revisit,
it is a nice and tearful reminder, that time goes by, we loose some friends, and we feel good to come back and reminisce with them we have loved just because they gave us some bits of their SOUL HERE.
@DonaldBly:
My company would have to shut down anyway. Vets get to the front of the hiring line.
Skook, have I mentioned lately how much in I admire you and thank God for your contribution to my country, not just in your past service but your service now which is of vital importance with the power of your words.
OLD TROOPER
where ever you are, best to you.
we WILL miss you. this SPECIAL NOVEMBER.
