Florida State College Shuts Down Conservative Booth At Event

Ch-ch-change baby! (h/t Gateway Pundit)

On Tuesday September 7, 2010 at around 11:00am one Palm Beach State College (PBSC) student and two Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) members, state chairman Daniel P. Diaz and state vice chairman Eddie Shaffer, were shut down and had campus police called on them after tabling and recruiting during club rush at the College. The PBSC student, Christina Beattie, had received prior permission from college administrator Olivia Ford-Morris to promote her organization on campus via telephone and email communication.

On the day of club rush, officials approached the group and after seeing information about the organization and its ideals criticizing Barack Obama’s economic policy. Ms. Ford-Morris was visibly disturbed by the material presented, published by the Heritage Foundation, criticizing President Obama’s administration. College officials then called the campus police to assure the group left campus. Ms. Ford-Morris denied having ever talked to Ms. Beattie about giving permission to the organization to be a part of PBSC club rush.

Apparently some groups who had not registered with this same coordinator were allowed to remain. But if you dare to disagree with Obama’s economic policy your out of luck.

Daniel P. Diaz commented that “It is extremely frustrating that when a conservative organization like YAF tries to start a chapter on a public university, administrators who proclaim that colleges are the market place of ideas proceed to be intolerant and censor views contrary to the liberal ideology.”

Unbelievable bias. The college campuses of today are indeed intolerant echo-chambers.

Dr. Dennis P. Gallon, President of Palm Beach State College email is gallond@palmbeachstate.edu.

Drop them a polite note letting them know what you think about their policy to shut down opposing views.

UPDATE

I know…shocking!

She can have her views and her politics. But preventing one side from voicing their views and politics, in a college campus of all places, is wrong.

Who give’s a S about Florida State? I literally fell out of my chair in hysterics when the holy, holy, most revered, lately forcibly retired, coach Bowden, during an ESPN interview, was asked if there were any “contentious” conversations between him the admin upon his being terminated. He responded, “What does “contentious” mean? The stalwart ESPN host kept a straight face and rephrased the question in a lingo Bowden could follow. MG! How low have our universities fallen in order to satisfy athletics for the sake of social harmony? Does anyone kinow what Michael Vick was studying at V-Tech? I don’t, but I don’t think it was nuclear physics. Anyone who doesn’t think that this malaise is not hurting our country in a serious way is a fool.

F Florida State and the ignorant thugs who revel in that ignorance.

If there was an email exchange, it should take about 15 seconds to prove this woman to be a liar, and to get her to say that she ‘misspoke’.

To me, the article read that permission was solicited by e-mail but given by phone. I hope that’s not the case.

The ACLU was all over this I am sure.

YAF also has a YouTube video showing them being kicked off the Broward College campus in Fort Lauderdale–again, for not having permission to set up their table. Maybe they should consider getting permission. Then they could video themselves not being told to leave.

Hey greggie, you willing to take a bet that was an Edited video, at best?

This intolerance and hypocrisy is unacceptable on a college campus.

@ anticsrocks, #12: “This intolerance and hypocrisy is unacceptable on a college campus.”

I’m not sure this actually is a matter of hypocrisy. Both Palm Beach State College and Broward College openly state that they include affirmative action goals as part of their institutional agenda. Both schools have a liberal orientation. YAF opposes the liberal orientation in general and affirmative action specifically. Essentially, they came onto school property with the intention of organizing opposition to one of the schools’ stated missions. Why should the schools not be intolerant of someone working against their institutional goals on their own campuses?

I dunno, maybe because PBSC is a public institution and there is that little thing called Freedom of Speech…

These are public schools, anticsrocks, and should not have an orientation toward a political agenda. As far as I can see, they had every right to be there along with everyone else.

Both Palm Beach State College and Broward College openly state that they include affirmative action goals as part of their institutional agenda.

Both colleges are public, not private schools, and accept public money, Greg. That means they aren’t allowed to simply decide who stays and who goes based solely on the political views involved. If Ford-Morris had kicked out everyone who didn’t supposedly have “permission,” it would be one thing, but she didn’t. She targeted a conservative group who was expressing viewpoints she didn’t like.

And you seem OK with that.

atti,

Read the article, not just the title. This isn’t about the university called “Florida State University,” this is about a college in the state of Florida. FSU has nothing to do with it.

Oh, and by the way, GO NOLES!

This should be no suprise to any one paying attention to the current political goals of one group, while at the same time denying to the others. It is the chitago way, little man berry says so in his actions. He and his henchmen/ladies do not want the truth to be exposed, they are all liars to one extent of another. God forbid the truth comes out these common criminals are in the system all the way to the top echelons of our gubmint.
I believe the only way to curb this ongoing fight for the truth is to expose them for who they are and to what means to intend upon using to protect their evil ways. I foresee an event in the near future where there will be a group who just decide they’ve has enough and will result in violence as a means to get their way, illegal or not they will have the stones to pull it off and then the “lights” will go one in everyone’s head as to who we are really facing, kinda like a now you see what you have wrought operation so to speak. I pray daily this does not come to a head but, something is going to give in this great experiment we call a Representative Republic and I strongly suspect it will not be the right way of thinking, left and violence seems to go hand in hand with this mentality. Its too bad if you think of it. Some one up there, is trying to tell us something and the left brains seem to mistake it for a referendum. Only a moral population is capable of rightious intentions.

These peoples moral compasses are so f@cked up that I doubt they could navigate their way through a one way street. It comes as no surprise that they would do everything in their little cold, black hearts to try and sensor any of us who DARE stand to oppose their savior and his minions. Friggin’ liberals, man.

Way to go Greg, keep misdirecting the focus of the topic of this discussion to someting else, typical Liberal tactic.

Those who strive to deny freedom of education, thought, and speech have o place in our society, especially at an institution of higher learning.

Marxists have never proponents of Free Thought or Free Speech.

“The state is not abolished it withers away.” Friedrich Engels 1820 -95 German Communist co-author and life long friend of Karl Marx

Our Socialist leaders and university administrators know that in the Constitution there is basically the Constitution standing there all alone like a mighty oak tree. They see themselves as contiually assaulting the document with axes and knives by passing legislation that will weaken or damage the tree.

Programming the Universities to indoctrinate students with Socialist Ideology is a major step in creating masses of Socialist Stooges or Useful Idiots to carry forth the Revolution until the mighty Oak of Freedom withers and falls. This fascist administrator has now ‘outed’ herself as a Socialist stooge and will suffer for her program of Socialist Indoctrination.

We should thank these young college students for exposing the hypocrisy and corruption that is rampant in academia. They are doing their part to protect the tree of Liberty.

I’ve given the YAF story additional thought since yesterday. Consider this an admission that my initial thinking was wrong.

IF, in fact, YAF received advance permission to participate in club recruiting and were subsequently run off simply because their political views were considered objectionable, or if they had no such permission and were run off while other groups also lacking permission were allowed to stay, THEN the school administor who made that decision has a problem. Such discrimination would be illegal, and in violation of the Equal Access Act of 1984.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode20/usc_sec_20_00004071—-000-.html

In the future, YAF should obtain their permissions in writing. If they want to sue they need documentation. Most likely they’ll have no such problems if it’s apparent that they’re documenting.

It seems to me that the civil rights of YAF were violated. It’s seems probable that a black bureaucrat became incensed by the attack on a black President. The explanation of the bureaucrat was obviously bogus.

Since YAF was singled out for expulsion, then the may have been excluded because of racial hatred…perhaps a hate crime has been committed. Certainly, a non-racially biased Justice Department should take up the case based upon appearances and statistics.

In any event, the bureaucrat should be forced to find alternative employment, if for no other reason that she is incredibly arrogant.

Of course I expect the Obama DOJ to sue YAF and the bureaucrat to be promoted…sigh

I’m beginning to notice a trend as I watch the other videos from this group, These kids go to schools without permission and then claim infringement upon their rights when asked to leave…
I know for a fact that its takes alot more that an e-mail to start a club, so i’m not buying it.
I don’t even believe they are students at this school considering they have also tried this same stunt at USF and FAU.
Its a good SET UP especially when the head of Student Services is Black. However, in order to rightfully call foul play you should know your legal rights and yours was not broken here. I’m all for freedom of speech but what I hate is the spread of hate & that’s exactly what you do when you do things like this.
