    Here is a capitalistic way to get out of the real estate problem. I believe the price of property is too high. With the “miracle” of compound interest, both parties (such as a bank and the buyer) can make money off the deal. I’m guessing the government should step in and bash the banks for refusing to do this earlier. The first step is to unload the property at half price, but not to anybody that has walked away from a loan in the past 10 years.

    To keep it simple, here is how it would work for the government. Let’s say the property is “worth” $20,000. The government buys it at $20,000 and sells it for $10,000. The key is the buyer has to get the loan from the federal government. $10,000 over 30 years at 4.5% interest is $37,453.18. $37,453.18 minus $20,000 is $17,453.18.

    Let’s say it had used $1 trillion of bailout money to do this. So the government buys $1 trillion in property and sells it for $500 billion. In 30 years, the government would be ahead by $872.66 billion.

    The people that were flipping property and using property as an investment would be punished by not being able to take advantage of the deal as many of them were walked away from bad investments. To the person that didn’t walk away and wanted property, they could be buying what was $500,000 for $250,000. $250,000 property could be bought for $125,000. At those prices who wouldn’t be buying property?

    Curt, I don’t know where you find these pictures, but they are so great!

    Here’s a video I found a few days ago. It does have some religious reference, for those of you who care…warning…this song will stick in your head: :wink:

    A hummingbird was my first thought too, but it seems to have a predatory little beak and a predator’s forward-facing eyes. It might even be carrying a bit of lunch it’s just caught.

    I saved the photo to my desktop, and then I enlarged and rotated it. Instead of predatory, the beak looks more like it has been foreshortened, with a slight telescoped spoon shape at the end. Possibly, it’s simply the angle that gives the beak this appearance, as well as the semblance of something caught in it. Rather than lunch, I get the impression that it’s just the markings around the beak itself.

    It might be something called a green bee-eater. I found a photo of one from the side that has similar colors and markings. If so, you’re right about the beak. The bee-eater’s is longish and slightly curved, similar to a hummingbird’s. Not short and hooked like I thought.

    Not to worry. Only green bees are in danger from the green bee-eater. Every other jelly bean in the jar is safe.

    @Donald Bly:
    Donald, this website may not be as detailed as you are looking for, but may help with background information. You could start by looking at the FAQ section perhaps:

    @Aye

    That was exactly what I was looking for… it would be nice if this information were archived under a “civil rights” heading and tagged, civil rights, democrats, history.

    Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.

  20. You’re welcome sir.

    I will try and take some time over the next few days to create a post with those links, and some others, and archive it with tags for future reference.

    I’ve been meaning to go through the categories and drill them down more for the new design. I’ll try to get to those you suggested this weekend.

    You guys are great…. I spend a lot of time blogging on the NEA website in the “Politics” forum. For the most part, the number of posters with conservative viewpoints seem to reflect that the country is truly center right. However, there are those that are hell bent on repeating progressive fabrications or simply ignoring the evidence presented to them. The research and clear thinking of the posters at http://www.floppingaces.net have been invaluable in aiding me in providing coherent and concise rebuttals to most of their nonsense. We’ve had 89,000 views on one thread alone.

    Thank you again.
