Obama Does Not Want The Gulf Cleaned Up [Reader Post]

incompetence

You never want a serious crisis to go to waste

I don’t think Barack Obama wants the Gulf cleaned up. He does not want the oil spill to end. He does not want the “damn hole” plugged.

There just isn’t any other possibility. I feel like we are in an alternative universe- one in which the President of the United States is at war with the American people.

While some are critical of Tony Hayward for going sailing, our feckless leader has once again hit the links.

5 times to the Gulf.

9 times to the Golf.

It is sort of reminiscent of OJ Simpson, who promised not to stop searching for his wife’s killer. Simpson has searched for that killer on nearly every golf course in the country.

Obama must also believe that the solution to the oil spill lies somewhere in the fairway.

Let’s harken back to May 14:

US President Barack Obama on Friday vowed “relentless” efforts to stop an oil leak pouring into the Gulf of Mexico, saying US won’t rest until leak stopped.

He “would not rest” until the leak was stopped.

And yet he done everything possible to obstruct the clean-up process.

He has refused to waive the Jones act and allow foreign countries to aid in the oil recovery effort.

He has not responded to Bobby Jindal’s requests to build sand berms.

Mata noted that deployment of Kevin Costner’s centrifuges were “delayed by rigorous testing requirements of BP and federal regulatory agencies,”

Oil skimming barges were shut down for inspection of life preservers and fire extinguishers.

The Coast Guard claimed that Packgen boom was inferior when in truth it was superior. Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen said he needed all the boom material he could get while Packgen was begging for someone to call as they could make oodles of the stuff quickly.

His moratorium on drilling will bring even more harm to the Gulf.

As Mike posted- they took 60 days to decide to build more skimmers?

Oil rigs are being moved elsewhere, along with jobs.

Obama claims to want this spill stopped but takes no actions which might make it happen sooner and seems to do everything he can to obstruct progress.

He continues to pound BP even though BP has done everything the Feds have asked.

Michael Barone notes the dishonesty of the Obama adminstration regarding the reasons for the offshore drilling moratorium.

The justification offered was an Interior Department report supposedly “peer reviewed” by “experts identified by the National Academy of Engineering.” But it turned out the drafts the experts saw didn’t include any recommendation for a moratorium. Eight of the cited experts have said they oppose the moratorium as more economically devastating than the oil spill and “counterproductive” to safety.

This was blatant dishonesty by the administration, on an Orwellian scale.

Byron York also zeroes in on another blatant Obama lie:

There was one particularly striking moment in President Obama’s widely panned Oval Office speech on the Gulf oil disaster. About midway through his talk, Obama acknowledged that he had approved new offshore drilling a few weeks before the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion on April 20. But Obama said he had done so only “under the assurance that it would be absolutely safe.”

Absolutely safe? Even before the Gulf spill, few defenders of offshore drilling would go that far. And when the president announced his drilling plan, on March 31, he said it was “not a decision that I’ve made lightly” and that he and his advisers had “looked at [it] closely for more than a year.” Surely he was told of the possible risks.

As York says- who told Obama that offshore drilling could “absolutely safe”? Lies flow from Obama’s mouth like so much crude spewing from the floor of the Gulf. And Obama continuously reminds us of his flaming hypocrisy:

I will not tolerate more finger-pointing or irresponsibility. The people of the Gulf Coast need our help,” Obama said.

Under huge domestic pressure to take an active role in managing the crisis caused by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, US President Barack Obama appeared on a domestic TV news program saying he was trying to find out “whose ass to kick.” He also added that he would have fired BP’s chief executive, Tony Hayward.

Obama does not want this mess remedied. He wants it to become so big and so disastrous that no one will allow oil drilling again. He just can’t be this incompetent. He cannot be this stupid. It’s simply not possible. It has to be intentional.

BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg caused a bit of stir when he said that BP cares about the “small people.” At least they care about someone.

Unlike Obama.

  2. And…

“There is one organization that has more extensive deep ocean, industrial scale marine engineering expertise than any other on the planet, the United States Navy….

Wouldn’t you have thought that a President, upon learning of the explosion and oil leak a mile under water off the Louisiana coast, would have immediately placed a call to the Secretary of the Navy and simply ordered the U.S, Navy to “seal that damn pipe, yesterday!”"

Of course it is intentional – he wants that Crap & Tax plan – he is invested in that, Soros is invested in that, Goldman Sucs is invested in it , Freddie Mac has a patent on carbon something or other (remember Franklin Raines , former head of FM – walked away with 90M – well, he’s invested too) so is the Goreacle, the Chicago Climate Exchange, Buffett, – hey you name the greedy crook – they’re invested in this – oh, don’t forget Brazil – we’re funding their offshore drilling – while shutting down our own

There is just so much corruption and deceit going on with this bunch that it makes my head hurt to try and piece it all together…………………

If we had a media that was truly the Fourth Estate – they would be investigating this and putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. However, since the media are all owned by corporations, what incentive is there to investigate what these crooks are doing to the Country and to the American people who are wondering where the jobs are going to come from – how are they going to support their families, buy food, buy clothing, – anything to exist…………..

I truly believe that the fraud has committed malfeasance & should be tried for his crimes – basically barring Americans from a portion of the country and allowing a foreign country to invade violates one of the major duties of the President and Commander-in-Chief and that is to protect our borders and provide for the security and safety of the United States and its citizens…

Where is anyone with a spine and the will to stand up and say enough – impeach this POS now before we are less than a 3rd world banana republic and become either a Chinese labor camp or a Muslim sect with Christians as the targets………………….

    Despicable all.

I really don’t think Obama is activly hindering fixing this problem… however, I do think he KNOWS he is over his head… that this is a serious mess… and so will use the crises anyway.

The more I read about this, the bigger the mess seems. The plan where they pumped mud into the well should have worked… and the only reason it would not is if the Well has broken somewhere deep in the bore hole… ie, you cap it, it just leaks out lower down.

Sooo… until the relief wells are drilled and they can relieve the pressure BELOW where it is broken below? Spill will continue pretty much unabated… because any further attempt to plug the leak at the top, will just cause the break below to get worse.

I think BP knows this, and gave Obama the 20 billion to try to get some good press, to offset the HORRIBLE Press which will happen when the true extent of this catastrophe is known.

Question for the future will be, when did Obama know the true extent of the mess… and why did he not tell us… his bosses.

When the dust settles, I think we’ll find Obama and BP were in this together for many of the reasons stated above. They need a crisis for all their green crap and to try and get “cap and tax” passed. Should they get their wishes, I beleive the leak will suddenly stop. BP needs to be banned from doing business in this country and Obama needs to be impeached.

Btw..if this was the Bush administration, can you imagine all the calls from the msm for investigations into their ties, we all remember the Cheney/Haliburton mantra constantly, espcially from msnbc and the dems….they would have already called for both Cheney and Bush to resign etc.

Soros and many others have big ties for this continue..yet that’s okay with the msm.

Fox has a couple of great investigative reporters that I know would have already been all over this and done an excellent job…I am just disgusted…past disgusted.

Hannity on his radio show just had on John Hoffmeister (sp) former head of Shell Oil, he had some great thoughts, info to contribute as well to all of this, not the first time by any means that I’ve listened to him, but one of the best was today.

More and more it seems we have elected an image rather than a person. Someone else has the remote control. Forces are in play to weaken America, and the only way to stop it is to return to our constitutional roots. I hope the structures the founding fathers built are strong enough to get us there.

Seems Soros pretty much makes billions on the backs of tax payers. 2 billion (we don’t have)to go to Brazil for their oil wells, who is heavily invested? you guessed it Soros. Soros wanted in France and I think the UK for his dirty stock deals, a Jew that reported his neighbors to the Germans when he was a teenager, he also stole the Jews jewelry from their homes. This guy should be hanged, he is backer for Moveon. He’s a snake much like obama himself. Funny how Obama attracks like people, criminals and Marxists. What kind of a fungus voted for this creep? you gotta’ wonder. PlS. Brazils oil wells to go 14,000 feet down..interesting, huh?

I also think that Obama doesn’t mind if those economies of the Gulf region which tend to be red states are also negatively impacted as well. He helps Soros by delaying and punnishes the red states for daring to think and vote for another party than his. When he is through with all of the crisis that just seem to come his way, we might very well be dead in the water for some states. Lets face it, this oil spill is going to send these red states into the red fiscally whereas before they were doing pretty well.

I just don’t like conspiracy theories but it seems that the more this joker of a president pops his head out of the jack in the box, the more I sense monkey business going on.

As if to further prove my point- here is the email I got from Mitch Stewart:

    Dr. John –

President Obama recorded a message for OFA supporters to update us on the crisis in the Gulf and ask us to stand with him to build a new foundation for energy in this country.

    And here is the link

Stand with the President for a Clean-Energy Future
For decades, we’ve talked about the need to end America’s century-long addiction to fossil fuels, but we’ve failed to act with the sense of urgency that this challenge requires.

It’s up to us—this generation, right now—to finally meet this challenge. It’s up to us to bring urgency to Washington.

The President needs us today to join the call for a clean-energy future now.

I stand with President Obama to pave the way for a clean-energy future that:

    • Combats climate change;

    • Creates a new economy powered by green jobs; and

    • Ends our dependence on foreign oil.

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/cleanenergyupdate?source=201006+21_MS_in&keycode=&email=wetbonder%40aol.com

But all he doing is making us MORE dependent on foreign oil.

I borrowed the photo and put it on my website with h/t to FA. It says it all. He is over his head.

Here’s a secret, outside Eisenhower and Washington, it could be argued all Presidents are over their heads the second they put their hands on the bible when being sworn in.

The key is to have a great staff around you (Reagan). Leadership skills (Eisenhower). A clear message (GWB 1st term), and a sense of humility (GW1). Most of all, the President must realize he is a steward of the nation, not the ruler.

Obama has none of those skills or that concept of his duties.

It cannot get better and it won’t.

If you look at it from the idea that Obama wants to be king, but can’t be in a republic (we are not a democracy), so he has to tear it down, then it all makes sense. The more the US has to spend, the sooner we run out of money, the sooner he can declare martial law and take over.

When he was campaigning he said he wanted a civilian police force that was as strong and equally funded as the military. What did Hitler call his civilian police force? We have the National Guard, but the president can’t activate it, the governors of each state have to do that. Why would Obama want a civilian police force as strong as our National Guard?

As far as the Packgen booms are concerned, I am guessing the company didn’t donate to Obama’s campaign, so why would Obama want to do business with them. I am guessing a decent donation will get the booms there a lot quicker.

I believe that the King-In-Chief is following orders. He is too young and inexperienced to be on his own. He has to wait for orders from his superiors before he can do anything. That is why he has so much time on his hands and can go to games and golf.

I can see November from my house, and I like what I see.

  28. America is justified in feeling anger toward BP given what has recently surfaced on the lead-up to the disaster, however, this anger should be tempered with reason.

The Legal process should not be tromped on, and this is a case where the “end justifying the means,” on the $20 billion fund – is playing to the masses, however, the precedent is dangerous.

Let’s not pretend that this fund wasn’t “Imposed” on BP. The bully-pulpit extracted it. The BP CEO was a goof ready to agree to anything, but DUE PROCESS was not followed.

This is NOT a prommissing precedent.

It has become clear they (obama and co.) are trying to milk it for everything it’s worth. Once they were told how long it may take to stop the leak, they started planning. I’m betting the gameplan went something like this.

Make it look like the govt. is competent, but BP is not.
Have the govt. step in to take charge when BP falls on it’s face (thanks in part to deliberate govt. hinderance).
Use the disaster to push C&T while stopping offshore oil drilling.

The problem for obama is that there have been too many info leaks and instead of him and his admin. looking like knights to the rescue, it’s becomming clear they are little more than Barney Fifes in suits. They thought they could scare or stampede people into giving them all the power they wanted in order to fix the problem (which works well in Europe), but it is backfiring after healthcare reform and the stimulus. Most have woken up to the scam. They no longer want to give them a blank check to fix things.

People think the response is worse than Katrina and that was where the media got together to deliberately push a false meme. Imagine if the MSM treated this the same way. Obama’s approval would be far lower.

More info is coming out all the time. That hole was poorly planned. With measurement while drilling (mwd) that payzone is approximately 17,000 feet long. The driving mechanism or flow pressure would test that bop to its limit. They had 1 shear ram set and a test set instead of a second shear set. Who the hell approved that? The accumulator or hydraulic controls leaked and was bypassed to the other system. You cannot continue until both systems work flawlessly. Who avoided that rule?

You have a 10% chance of cutting a tool joint on 6 7/8 drillpipe, which is extremely tough to cut especially with all those tremendous pressures involved. That’s why you need a second set of shears. The Cameron bop has only 1 control valve that allows the oil into the bop. Wth the cold and pressure, it could have stuck open. That test set was garbage, and allowed BP to save approximately 700$ a minute for rig time rental skipping the proper tests. I can go on. I find this negligence unbelievable.

Just saw where we have loaned 2 billion to Petrobus. Big stockholder? Soros. They will be using that money to drill a well at 14 thousand feet down. That’s 9000 feet deeper than the one that blew out. Why are we giving them that much money? Soros is backing a lot of obama’s buddies/pet groups. Back scratching in action.

FYI, the ban is for any drilling deeper than 500 feet. It’s as if that depth was picked to inflict maximum disruption upon offshore drilling.
Also, the 35 oil rigs that have been banned from doing their job for six months, will likely end up going elsewhere.
It does seem obama and his flying monkies are trying to destroy the U.S. oil industry…”for our own good.”

    @MEscape:

Snopes was correct, that deal was made by Bush appointees for $2 billion, during the first few months of the Obama Administration. But, what seems to be flying under the radar, seemingly out of reach from the Snopes folks is this:

U.S. Government to Loan Brazil’s Petrobras $10 Billion
The U.S. government is preparing to provide up to $10 billion in loans to finance the development of massive hydrocarbon reserves off Brazil’s coast thought to contain 80 billion barrels of high-quality crude, an amount that could lead to a six-fold increase in Brazil’s current proven reserves and transform that nation into one of the world’s 10 largest oil producers.

RIO DE JANEIRO – The U.S. government is prepared to provide up to $10 billion in loans to finance the development of massive hydrocarbon reserves off Brazil’s coast, a Brazilian official said Wednesday.

President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James Jones, discussed the matter with officials this week during a visit to the South American country, Brazilian Planning Minister Paulo Bernardo da Silva told reporters.

He said the U.S. Export-Import Bank already has signed a letter of intent in that regard with Brazilian state oil company Petrobras.

The loan is equal in value to a similar credit line agreed to with the China Development Bank, also for exploiting Brazil’s “pre-salt” area, so-named because the estimated 80 billion barrels of high-quality crude in that new oil frontier lie far beneath the ocean floor under layers of rock and an unstable salt formation.

I wonder if the Brazilian Planning Minister checked with Snopes before he released this information to the Latin America Herald Tribune?

from day one, it wasn’t about containment or stopping the leak, it was all about sending in the lawyers, so obama could capitalize on the disaster. Obama went back to his community organizer instincts. He strong armed BP into a windfall slush fund that made jackson and sharpton look like a pair or ragged panhandlers asking for spare change. With 20 Billion, obama guaranteed his politics aren’t going away anytime soon. Not as long as their are union or acorn members around with a palm out wanting some of that “obama stash”.

This includes passwords and any other sensitive info sent over an unsecured system. I’m glad there are sight like this allowed on YouTube.

I quit using Google and YouTube when I found out that Google didn’t decorate their logo for Memorial Day and Veterans Day until the conservative blogs complained about it. Each person has the freedom to choose what to use and what not to use.

As the Gulf Coast shores continue to be coated with crude, the Obama Administration has only accepted assistance from 5 countries out of 28 who offered to assist the US with the cleanup.

The State Department posted this on their website.
28 countries have offered to help assist the United States with the worst environmental disaster in American history. Only 5 offers have been accepted the rest are under review.

Salazar Renames MMS, Adding ‘Regulation and Enforcement’

How do you toughen a regulatory agency under fire for laxness and coziness with the industry it regulates? If you’re Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, you rename it.

The Mineral Management Service is no more. As of today, the agency in charge of overseeing offshore oil exploration–and the ill-fated Deepwater Horizon drilling rig–will be known as the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement. That’s the Bureau of Ocean Energy, or BOE, for short.

The name sounds a lot more muscular.

    See? All better now.

There’s divided opinion about whether or not Jindal’s berms will do any good at all. There’s opinion that berms could make matters even worse by forcing oil up the Mississippi River. Berming was allowed to proceed in spite of those uncertainties. That doesn’t mean additional environmental damage should be done in the process. Sand can be taken from a less vulnerable location. Maybe they should do that rather than wasting time on political posturing.

It will be interesting to see what’s said if Jindal’s berms predictably wash away with the first storm of the season, or if they push oil damage up through the entire Mississippi delta.

When the Mississippi River is flowing normally (without extra flood waters) it moves 1.6 million gallons of water every second

I mean geez- making Costner go through “exhaustive” and “rigorous” tests with a machine to clean the water. Was it worth four weeks to be sure the damn machine cleaned 97% instead of 75%? WTF?

It might be worth noting that there don’t seem to be any experts who have agreed that berming is a good idea. No one even seems to know who worked up the details of the plan, or what sort of analysis has been made of the likely consequences. All that’s known with certainty is that the project will divert enormous amounts of money away from other approaches to controlling damages.

Here’s an article about it written by a guy who actually is an expert in the field–Dr. Rob Young, professor of coastal ecology at Western Carolina University and director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines:

Action, Greg, is the first thing you need as a leader. Experience helps you to make the correct decision on which action to take. Surrounding yourself with COMPETENT people who make wise recommendations on which actions to take help you in being a good, even great leader.

    Action, Experience and competent advisors.

No action by Obama except for talking about whose ass to kick, and stopping actions of others to stop or cleanup the spill.

No experience in making hard decisions, tended to vote present when a junior state senator and still does so, even as president

Not one competent advisor in his staff at all. This is apparent on an everyday basis by all the missteps in his cabinet.

LA has a leader, who is doing something, and Obama’s admin is doing everything they can to stop the governors own actions and decisions.

Is Obama incompetent? Or is he criminally negligent?

They do carry a price tag of half-a-million bucks each, so a test drive might have been in order. Otherwise Obama probably would have been accused of buying junk vacuum cleaners from a door-to-door Hollywood huckster, whose only practical experience had to do with the movie Waterworld.

The low-end estimate for Governor Jindal’s untested and unanalyzed berming project is $360 million, which would buy 720 of Mr. Costner’s useful devices. Apparently they would be very good things to have handy on a shelf when needed.

Wrong on all counts. You’re really batting a thousand at losing assumptions lately, guy. BP is the one who tested the CINC centrifugres, not “Obama” or the USCG, or the EPA. It was, however, feds who kept this machine from being used in prior incidents because they said it couldn’t be approved until tested in real life conditions. But then, you couldn’t test it in real life conditions without their approval… Typical politico-double speak.

BP and CINC, which is Costner and his brother… da guy with the engineering degree… modified the centrifuge so that it would handle all the different grades of the weathering oil (it starts turning into asphalt, ya know). With the mods, it worked, so BP… not Obama… ordered the machines. Still no word on whether the EPA will turn it’s head to the 1% of oil (or 1.28 oz per every gallon processed) in the discharged water. EPA demands 15ppm. Costner would like them to be a permanent part of every seagoing vessel, as it affords the ability for clean up for their constant accidents…. assuming they didn’t purge their tanks on purpose, as many of the supertankers do while at sea.

They’ve had this for 17 years, and Costner has been quite busy and involved with the evolving product. I already did a post on the evolution of the centrifuges after their purchase of an Idaho DOE patent. Looks like you ought to be doing more reading in the archives, and less commenting, dude.

My jury is out on the Jindal berm theory. While it seems practical (if not economically feasible for an unproven result) at a superficial glance, I know these sandbars can do much to rearrange and redirect currents. I did, after all, spend my youth camping, skiing and diving around the Florida sand bars on the Gulf coast. It is my understanding that they – da feds – halted the dredging as well in the past 24 hours.

Bees, one of the ROVs (remote cameras) hit the cap and tipped it askew. They had to remove the cap to assess the damage because it affected pressure, etal. Now they are making sure that the methane hydrates didn’t ice over the tube rise sending down the heat to prevent that. And I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to find out that the methane hydrates was the cause for the blow out itself. At that depth, it takes about 10 minutes for the crystals to appear, making cementing a tricky task. We’ll know more because the Brazlian Petrobras latest discovery is down over 6000 ft, and they’re going for it.

Didn’t hear about the deaths. An accident on one of the ships attending the rig area? Haven’t had time to look between work, and finally a “summer” day to take care of some outdoor chores. Got a link to a story on that?

Google warnings that a website could be “harmful your computer” are often based on a Google indexing spider having noted some fault in a website’s condition that could easily be exploited by hackers. If a protected folder on the host server has been accidently left unlocked by the website owner, for example, a hacker might easily slip in code that downloads malicious programs on the sly when innocent visitors happen by. Hackers have their own spiders out prowling the web looking for such weaknesses to exploit.

I found this out by having one of my own websites hacked. It happened because I’d accidentally left a hidden folder unlocked. I noticed one of those warnings when I did a Google search to see where my site came up on the search list. When I clicked on the link I got bit by my own website and spent the next 3 hours removing a trojan virus from my own computer. Needless to say I cleaned up and locked the hacked folder on my hosts server promptly, but I still got angry emails from a couple of site visitors.

@Greg:  I admit to not knowing much about computers. The more I find out about this stuff the happier I am that I have a Mac computer and don’t have to worry about most of that stuff.

On April 1, a job log written by a Halliburton employee, Marvin Volek, warns that BP’s use of cement “was against our best practices.”

An April 18 internal Halliburton memorandum indicates that Halliburton again warned BP about its practices, this time saying that a “severe” gas flow problem would occur if the casings were not centered more carefully.

Around that same time, a BP document shows, company officials chose a type of casing with a greater risk of collapsing.

Despite noticing cementing problems, BP skipped a quality test of the cement around the pipe. Federal regulators also gave the rig a pass at several critical moments. After the rig encountered several problems, including the gas kicks and the pipe stuck in the well, the regulators did not demand a halt to the operation. Instead, they gave permission for a delay in a safety test of the blowout preventer.
