    Did you all talk about how badly Obama was received at West Point? It was like seeing two people on a blind date who realized they hated each other. A Mr. T meets Richard Simmons moment.

    You could see he wanted out and they never wanted him to come in.

    Ugly.

    One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, “I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.”

    The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a “thank you” card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

    Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tried to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.”

    The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a “thank you” card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

    Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.”

    The Congressman was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

    And that, my friend, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

    A couple who are close friends of ours was invited to the WP graduation for one of their nieces. The reaction to Obama was every bit as bad as suggested. “Tepid” is a really good description of the reaction. There is a common belief among the brass who attended that Obama has really compromised the US position in the world and weakened us significanty.

    @DrJohn, I don’t know what SFGate and Pozzi are speaking of. BP called in actor Kevin Costner, and 26 of his “Ocean Therapy” patented vacuum machines over a week ago. Of his 300 machines, 26 are parked in Louisiana and some are already in service. BP was testing six of them as of May 20th.

    Costner has graciously donated the use of these machines, created and funded with his personal funds, for the clean up.

    So it seems that both Pozzi and SFGate are behind the eight ball.

    What point are you trying to make with a May 14th article link (in #25) about the Saudi spill, Dr. John? The earliest articles I saw about Costner’s Ocean Therapy Solutions started around the 13th. They had six of them in test modes as of the 20th.

    Your comment above is from a May 26th story by SFGate, and links to a video with Nick Pozzi on Bulls and Bears May 24th. Four to six days after BP began testing the centrifuges in the Gulf.

    Now I can’t help it if none of these folks remain unaware of that portion of the clean up efforts. Afterall, the media remains fixed only two aspects… Is it capped yet? And is it Obama’s Katrina? But I knew the Costners were out there, so it did make news… just not the 24/7 in your face news cycle.

    Fact is, if anyone really wanted to know, this information was available via a quick and easy search. (I happen to remember because I’ve long been a Costner fan) I have to assume that since Pozzi continues this tack on the talking heads circuit, despite reality on the gulf, he must have some sort of personal agenda a’foot.

    The point is, the vacuuming has being considered, is being tested with equipment in the area supplied by Costner family’s firm, and as far as we know is out there sucking it out daily. But since no reporter wants to follow up on any of the good stuff being done, only concentrating on the negative, I guess we won’t know how many of the 36 centrifuges in LA, available, are out and performing. Nor if they are calling in any more of the 300 inventory they have.

    Only that the Pozzi story seems to have some substance. If the competition is about dates (and it isn’t for me) there was an article in Esquire

    The Secret, 700-Million-Gallon Oil Fix That Worked — and Might Save the Gulf

    Read more: http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/gulf-oil-spill-supertankers-051310#ixzz0pKu6mNyZ

    and it too was on May 13.

    An interview with John Hofmeister, former President of Shell Oil, was posted on May 11. In it Hofmeister mentions the vacuuming process. This appears to be the first mention of the it. Pozzi doesn’t seem to show up until two days later but it appears that Hofmeister pointed Esquire to Pozzi.

    http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/obama-response-to-gulf-oil-spill-051110

    Then again, I am not a Costner fan, although I appreciate what he and brother are doing.

    Drjohn, I’m not sure if we have a communication problem here. You say you want vacuuming. I point out to you that vacuuming is being explored and done, and has been since before these Pozzi interviews. When these articles you post are hitting the media, Costner was in Louisiana with equipment, doing demonstrations. There are those that write, those that give interviews, and then there are those that do.

    Pray tell, what is it you’re missing?

    So Costner was out there vacuuming prior to May 11? OK, I did miss that.

    “I expect them to be out cleaning up the gulf in a week from now,” says Ocean Therapy Solutions CEO. Houghtaling partnered with other investors and actor Kevin Costner to roll out the centrifuges. The largest can clean more than 200,000 gallons of oiled water daily.

    http://www.abc26.com/news/local/wgno-news-bp-approves-costner-centrifuge,0,1974698.story

    Would the operation of these machines be kept a secret? Are they out there? Are they working?

    I surely hope they do work.

    drjohn, we have no idea when Costner/Ocean Therapy Solutions contacted BP originally. We only know when it came to the media’s derelict attention. The firm has headquarters in LA as well as CA, so I’m not betting that after $26 mil of development and 15 years, they were standing idly by and waiting for a call.

    So let’s run the timeline by you again….

    May 13th Costner was giving demos to the press (already presumably done for BP, who had agreed to test them on the open waters shortly thereafter). That means this was discussed and set up with BP prior. So no, they were not vacuuming then.

    As for Pozzi… coincidental that he just set up a company called Wow Environmental Solutions with a Houston attorney? Let’s look at the differences… Costner has the equipment and on site. He’s even donated the use of the centrifuges, for heavens sake. What does Pozzi and his attorney partner offer? Verbal advice. They don’t have the tankers themselves (he suggested let the Saudis provide them), then he’s incensed when the CG asks for a written plan.

    So what would you do? Go with the guy who’s on site with the centrifuge equipment and get the needed ships? Or go with the guys who have the same idea but have nothing, and have to subcontract everything…. and to boot, didn’t even provide a written plan involving the costs and timelines of doing so.

    No brainer…. Ocean Therapy Solutions hands down.

    I have already provided links that state BP approved them and were to start test use with six to see their effectiveness as of May 20th. Is their operation kept a secret? Let me ask you this… is any BP success going to be splashed across the media? When they cap it, will Obama take credit? If these machines clean and minimize the amount reaching the shores, will BP and Costner get credit? Or does it get in the way of the larger agenda to demonize offshore oil production?

    Think a minute, and you’ll figure out why they aren’t following up on the centrifuge clean up. We can’t have any positive news about this, ya know.

    And INRE Pozzi…. call me wacky, but I’m always suspicious when I see an attorney as a partner in an “environmental solutions” business….

    The Costner report was from May 14.

    http://www.wdsu.com/entertainment/23553391/detail.html

    About one of your links:

    Each of the 26 Heath Robinson-style machines now in Louisiana waiting to be deployed can clean between 5 and 200 gallons of water a minute, depending on its size, said Costner’s lawyer and business partner, John Houghtaling, which means they could in theory mop up oil at the rate it is currently gushing into the Gulf. Polluted sea water which passes through them comes out 97 per cent clean.

    Did Costner say his machine is “Heath Robinson style”?

    This is peculiar.

    It’s difficult for me to accept that the media would not want to run with any good news regarding the spill. People are hungry for anything positive.

    Centrifuge separation of oil and water is not new, but they may have something unique. The OTS website it rather uninformative.

    Oh for heavens sakes, drjohn… I read about this around the 13th of May. AFP posted the story on May 12th.

    New Orleans WDSU ran an article on it May 13th. You’ll note at the top it was originally published on May 13th, and updated on May 14th. You picked up the “update” article.

    The video linked above is a WDSU video report posted on YouTube on May 13th.

    Zimbio’s report is dated May 13th.

    Again, I ask… what is your point? Pozzi is not coming up with something that obviously hasn’t been considered. It’s not even new technology, as Costner himself points out in his demonstration. And it’s certainly not new to BP since they use vacuums and separators in their Carson facilities. Surely you don’t believe these people are so stupid about their industry as to ignore a solution that not only cleans the water, but recovers the oil and some of their investment, do you? All I can say is that Ocean Therapy Solutions was better poised to attempt this vacuum method… and in fact better since it’s designed to be used with a barge, and not a supertanker. A lot easier to get your hands on a barge… supertankers are harder to come by.

    So it’s not off BP’s radar as Pozzi suggests. Strikes me as the guy is simply a jealous sour puss.

    And no… Costner didn’t describe the centrifuges as Heath robinson’esque… his idiot Louisiana trial lawyer partner did. (why must these guys pair up with lawyers, anyway?) Probably to him, it does appear a prop for a B movie. It’s Costner’s brother, Dan, who original developed a filtration system for oil. They got the patent and started building these back in 1993, after Waterworld. Costner Industries has also been working on a 15 year, non-chemical battery too. Kevin’s the cash entrepreneur, Dan’s the inventor brains.

    Trying to find out something on the centrifuges tests inbetween work. The press remains completely dumb about it all… I guess after the flash of Kevin’s Hollywood smile, they totally forgot about a follow up. Also don’t know about vacuuming in general, and what the water conditions must be, or it’s effect on the natural microbes and other small plankton in the water. Certainly Costner’s demonstration in a kiddie pool differs considerably than conditions on the Gulf… even in good weather.

    You conveniently left out my ensuing sentence that said “(why must these guys pair up with lawyers, anyway?)”, drjohn. @jlfintx… LOL! My “goat” doesn’t butt heads on so little provocation.

    Actually, been trying to dig up the ignored follow up on the Costner machines, and if they are performing… and if not, what was the performance problem. Just haven’t had time to get much cursory info.

    What I have found out so far is that the Costner Industries machines appear to be leased/donated or something to this lawyer and OTS. That particular LLC was formed just after this oil spill. However neither Costner brothers are listed on the SOS filing as agents/officers. Interesting that Stephen Baldwin… yes, the actor… is on as an officer, right along with Houghtaling’s french actor friend, Franco Valobra. They also filed an LLC simultaneously for “The Will to Drill LLC”. That just happens to be the title of an environmental documentary that Baldwin is preparing to film down there now.

    So I’m not entirely sure that Houghtaling is “Costner’s lawyer”, as the article suggest. The relationship isn’t clear on SOS filings. And it could be their “business partner” relationship is limited to the newly formed LLC as leasors of the Costner machines…. i.e. supplier to distributor. Dunno yet…. but I’m not seeing Costner’s name anywhere in this Ocean Therapy Solutions LLC.

    Houghtaling is a hotshot young lawyer in the area, renowned as a trial lawyer for Katrina victims.

    What I find even more interesting, as a side bar, is that both Houghtaling and Valobra are huge exotic sports car/Ferrafi buffs. Hey, I love that. But sorta throws a monkey wrench into the mixed intent as enviro activists, right? I mean, these fab cars aren’t exactly easy on mpgs….. :roll:

    You are a sharp cookie Mata. I know a lot ( a bunch) of cpa’s at partner level who do not know how to access a state’s sos website to check on a business, which most list online (some for a fee, but nonetheless for instance Texas lists every document filed by the business/individual or what the state has sent, no matter how many years have passes. For $1 you can get a copy of any of these files (as long as you do not ask for “certified copy, etc”. It is the easiest way in Texas to find out why a company’s charter is not in good standing (alternative sitting on the phone/mail/fax) waiting for them to tell you what the problem is. The Texas Comptroller send the Public Information Report or Ownership Information Report to the Secretary of State since this is the legal side of the Franchise Tax Report. The Comptroller keeps the tax form/calculation and send the legal/name of officers, directors, etc, on to the SOS.

    Most partners in a cpa firm (at least the ones I worked for in Dallas-150 employee size firm with about 30 partners, and nada one knew this!

    Sorry to be long winded, that touched a nerve that is still quite raw.

    Thank you Mata! :-D

    @Beez. Thank you!
    That woman is not related to him. She is part of a group of retired persons who meet all of our troops (coming and going) through Bangor Maine. This is the airport all of our troops leave, and return through. They hug and kiss, and shake hands of EVERY man and woman warrior, so that there is NEVER another instance of a warrior feeling unloved by their countryman, as like what happened during the Viet Nam war. They give them free phone-calls, and snacks too.

    Her and her friends at http://www.freeportflagladies.com/ deserve medals (I recommend the Congressional Medal of Freedom) for their tireless work.

    LOL! Looks like you were following some of the same trails I was, jlfintx. I wasn’t bothering with Costner Industries, aka CINC, since I already knew they were headquartered out of Carson, NV.

    What I was curious about was the creation of Ocean Therapy Solutions (which makes me want to ask why you were searching Ocean Thermal corporations in DE… what relations are they?) The LA SOS doesn’t provide Articles of Confederation on their site… or else OTS hasn’t gotten around to filing one yet. That often can shed more light. But as I said, I’m not sure Costner has anything to do with OTS, other than perhaps having a lease agreement for the centrifuges. But it’s obvious that OTS was created… along with the same players in part for “The Will to Drill LLC… post the spill. THe reason I mention that is because the media reports (who are probably also challenged to corporation filings… duh) keep calling Houghtaling CEO of OTS, and referring to Costner as a “partner”. So far, I’m not finding that as substantiated. Or else it’s a very loose definition of “partner”.

    As to what names I tried… I was searching Baldwin, Costner, Valobra, Houghtaling when I got side tracked with this thing called making a living. So the research is in flux at the moment.

    But a quick look as to where I’m leaving off…. and picked up a bit of a trail…. Both the OTS and TWTD LLC’s trace back to the same address…….. a law firm in Metairie called Chehardy, Sherman, Ellis, Murray, Recile, Griffith, Stakelum & Hayes LLP. The Will to Drill LLC has James Fantaci as the agent. Ocean Therapy Solutions has David R. Sherman as the agent. They share two out of three listed officers… both actors, Baldwin and Valobra.

    Hadn’t gotten around to sniffing out who officer/OTS Spyridon Contogouris, or officer/TWTD Hugh Sanderford Jr is yet, or how they fit into this information pie. Unfortunately my free time doesn’t always match my curiousity in levels…. :roll:

    The agent law firm is a different firm from Houghtaling’s practice… who is part of Gauthier, Houghtaling & Williams. So I’m not sure what the relationship is, or why Houghtaling didn’t place himself as agent of the LLC.

    BTW, funny you mention Texas. I was searching that SOS site for some reason about a week ago, and found myself annoyed that anyone looking to do a start up business name registration had to pay just to see if a name was available… gosh darn, I’m so used to most public records at this level being for free from most states. So you can add another to your “raw nerves” on that subject…. LOL

    BTW, jlfintx, I did confrm the Nyack NY Stephen Baldwin is indeed the actor since there were news reports of that address getting foreclosed upon… It may be that that this oil disaster, and his planned documentary, pulls Baldwin’s finances up by the bootstraps.

    Patvann,

    I think you’re a nice person, but that link you included leads to one of the most pretentiously worded, provocatively hateful, creatively delusional and willfully inaccurate fictional accounts I have ever read. You don’t believe that nonsense, do you? Please tell me that someone on this blog is honest and brave enough to point out the silliness.

    jtfintx,

    Nyack is in Rockland County, NY, about 20 miles NW of NYC. Stephen Baldwin lives there now after he lost his house to default in a more upscale Rockland community. I’m not sure I’d invest my hard-earned bucks or my hope for solving the Horizon riddle on anything he’s involved with.

    BTW, rockybutte… Baldwin, last I knew, rescued the home from courtsteps auction by declaring bankruptcy (thereby having the ability to exempt the home under certain circumstance). This seems to be confirmed since the Nyack/foreclosure address is the same registration on the early May officer filing for Ocean Therapy Solutions and The Will to Drill LLCs.

    Mata,

    Check out Patvann’s 5/26 link to American Digest. It’s hard to read without laughing.

    Baldwin’s house was in Grandview-on-the-Hudson, New York. It’s home to 284 souls. Very exclusive. I wouldn’t be surprised if the community uses Nyack (which is immediately to the east) postal addresses.

    BTW, I keep the rockybutte name just to see which anally fixated commentators choose to drop the “e”.

    What do you think of Dudley?

    Correction to Baldwin’s house noted, rockybutte/butt… which ever irritates you the most… LOL My bad.. address is a 50 Piedmont Ave, and a suite number that I can’t ID on reverse address checks.

    “Dudley”??? WTF? … as in “do-right”???

    And I read the American Digest link, as you suggested. Again I’m missing what fires that hair up your “butte”….. Disagree? Fine. But it’s far from the evil dissertation you make it out to be.

    Thanks to all regarding my son John.
    (Keep an eye open on your e-mail Skooks, some details are forthcoming.)

    Rocky. I think you need to re-read it. I won’t go so far to claim that you don’t “get it”, but maybe you need to reach a little deeper. Of course if you’re an Obama fan, I can understand your angst.

    Or maybe you could overlook the style, and focus on whatever inaccuracies you feel are within it, thereby initiating a discussion. Hell, maybe I’ll get Gerard to answer them for you. I certainly don’t see it as harsh as I’ve sometimes seen around here.

    Mata, I’m referring to Chris Dudley, Republican candidate for Oregon Governor, and worst free-throw shooter in the history of the NBA. Actually, I kinda like the guy. He’s pro-choice and pro-gay rights. He’s been a diabetic since adolescence and has operated a camp for teenage diabetics, which he has subsidized, in the Portland area for the last decade or so. He’s never held elective office, and comes across as an empty suit at times. John Kitzharber, his Democratic opponent, is a former two-term governor and former Oregon Senate President.

    Patvann, I’d like to discuss the high and low points of the American Digest piece. I’ll need to find some time to swing by and do justice to the dialogue.

    @rockybutte: Mata, I’m referring to Chris Dudley, Republican candidate for Oregon Governor, and worst free-throw shooter in the history of the NBA.

    oh…. *that* Dudley. Dang, would have more positives to say about Dudley Do-Right. 8-O

    There was quite a line up in the Oregon GOP primary. Dudley’s certainly likeable if people want to vote for a “star”. I’m troubled by his lack of experience in running anything. I’m also troubled he was easily led around by the nose by the union big wigs in the 1999 NBA strike over salary caps.

    These two things are related. The former because his lack of experience means, to be effective, he needs to make wise decisions in his support staff because they will be running the show. The latter shows he does not necessarily pick his sides and support groups well.

    Kitzhaber? Been there, done that. “Dr. No”, as he was called for heavy veto power, didn’t necessarily leave office walking a path of rose petals thrown in adoration. Being an ER doctor, state health care has always been near and dear to his heart. He’s predictable on the issues, following the liberal lean on pretty much everything. A good man at his root – meaning not the corrupt type – but most certainly on the opposite end of the political spectrum from me on just about everything.

    It will be interesting to see how Dudley grows during the campaign season. I would guess that, as a sports star with a clean (i.e. *no*) political record, he may have appeal for the independents. Then there’s the possibility that those Dems, less than enthralled with Kitzhaber before, take a leap of faith with Dudley. But right now, I’m giving him a wide spread in points on any debate. Not so good on the stump/dais where Kitzhaber is seasoned. Also, there is a benefit to Kitzhaber’s willingness to use his veto…. if he applies it to spending, that is.

    For me? I think it all depends on who I see surrounding Dudley. i.e. the nation has already voted for Rahm Emanuel, Axelrod, Plouffe, Pelosi and Reid etal when they fell in love with the community organizer and his Greek columns and fireworks back in 2008. Dudley may be a pliable and appealing mouthpiece, but it all depends upon for whom, yes?

    I’m bothered that some background powerhouse picked him out of the sea of unqualifieds to catapult him to the candidate position. I don’t know who they are yet, or what their agenda is. This is Oregon. Republicans here are not much different (or worse) than a MA Republican. i.e. can you write RINO in humongous print?

    In my travels through the web this morning this came to my attention. Wilder Publications is now putting warning labels on copies of the Constitution, Federalist Papers, Articles of Confederation, Bill of Rights, etc:

    A Warning Label — on the U.S. Constitution

    © Wilder Publications 2008

    This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.

    http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2010/05/06/a-warning-label-on-the-u-s-constitution/

    Then I noted this article, picked up my spirits a bit, of course the WaPo journalist reporting on Mr. Taylor’s classes spared no spin, regardless, you get the message, more and more people are motivated to study the Founding Fathers and the Constitution.

    Conservative class on Founding Fathers’ answers to current woes gains popularity

    Two years ago, Taylor, who is president of the National Center for Constitutional Studies, made about 35 trips to speak to small church groups and political gatherings. This year, he has received so many requests that he enlisted 15 volunteer instructors, who are on pace to hold more than 180 sessions reaching thousands of people.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/04/AR2010060404918_pf.html

    After attending a number of Tax Day rallies, these tea partiers put together a song and video that honors our country, the Founders and our people. We can be so thankful to all, the tea partiers, Mr. Taylor and his team, many people participating at FA and most of all our Warriors that have fought and are still fighting. They are all the glue that is holding this country together, facing off all sorts of our country’s enemies in many different ways. Thank you all!

    Power of the Dream song and video:

    The Proceeds of this project will go to benefit Americas Mighty Warriors, which is an organization whose mission is to render aid and comfort to military families especially those who have lost loved ones in the wars. Americas Mighty Warriors was founded by Debbie Lee whose son Marc Allen Lee was the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq while performing an act of conspicuous bravery.

    ~~~~~
    We would also invite all who believe in the American Dream to share with us what your American Dream is (250 words or less please). These submissions will be compiled into a book called The Power of the Dream to be written by America. Send all entries to grockit@comcast.net with the words American Dream in the subject line. Also give us your full name, occupation and place of residence.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/thepowerofthedream76
    Would love to see a submission from OT, Warrior, Khandahar, Afghanistan or Skookum, Master of the wild, Mountains of America. :wink:
