You Can’t Make This Stuff Up [Reader Post]

As Congress labored furiously to ensure that women have equal access to federal bathrooms, insurgents in Afghanistan this month launched a series of bold strikes on U.S. and NATO bases in Afghanistan. The Potty Parity Act is proceeding apace.

The Obama administration response to the upsurge in violence in Afghanistan? It launched an investigation into allegations that a number of American soldiers were responsible for the “unlawful deaths” of at least three Afghan civilians. This, despite the recent unanimous acquittal of three heroic Navy SEALS who were swiftly exonerated by a jury after being accused of, gasp, slapping one of the most dangerous terrorist detainees in the world. Who, by the way, the SEALS heroically captured. Thank-you, Navy SEALS. There is no update yet on the terrorist’s hurt lip.

As our young men are fighting and dying in Afghanistan, our current elected officials remain hard at work. Their most recent work product includes a proposal for a new medal to reward our troops for “courageous restraint.” Have you got that? A medal for not killing the enemy. Of course most of these medals would, of necessity, be awarded posthumously.

Maybe by the time the first new medal is awarded, the “enemy” will actually be defined. The only concrete message so far from Washington, via Attorney General Eric Holder, is that the enemy is NOT radical Islamic terrorists. Whew!

The month of May could very well be likened to a chapter out of Alice in Wonderland. As oil from the BP catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico continued gushing into the ocean (day 36 and counting), the Obama administration was otherwise occupied – holding a gala State dinner for Mexican President Calderone. A good time was had by all, although extensive media reports suggested that one of the guests had a dress quite similar to Michelle’s.

To be absolutely fair, Obama did appoint a commission to study how to deal with the BP catastrophe. Just because Obama is the largest recipient of BP campaign cash for the last twenty years doesn’t mean he’s in their pocket. There is no word yet on when or if the commission will release its expert findings.

Meanwhile, Obama blithely continued to side with foreign countries against the U.S., as he bravely spoke truth to power, teaming up with President Calderone to condemn the newly passed immigration law in Arizona. Although the Arizona law mirrors federal law, thanks to Obama’s TelePrompTer and a derelict media, millions of Americans now believe that upholding the Constitution is racist. And I guess it’s now OK for foreign leaders to criticize America from the White House lawn.

Also this month: Unfazed by the 368- point plunge in the stock market, which occurred the same day the Senate passed a financial regulation bill, Obama took to the airwaves to announce an executive mandate. Bypassing Congress, Obama unilaterally declared tougher, expanded fuel emission standards for cars and trucks. Damn the economy, Mother Earth is more important. Right?

As world stocks tumbled, Obama responded bygranting unions expanded power, making it easier for airline and railroad workers to unionize. That unions are one of the reasons behind this year’s economic meltdown was left unreported.

As Bangkok was being burned by deadbeats protesting cuts in social spending, Congress remained totally focused on a slew of new and expanded social spending measures, costing a mere $200 billion. Congress hopes to get it to Obama for his approval in the next three weeks, well before those pesky November elections.

Congress appeared unfazed by a new NATO report that identified Iran as a “Major Article 5 Threat.” They were otherwise engaged crafting a formal apology to American Indian tribes for “ill-conceived policies” and acts of violence committed against them.”

As North Korea threatened war and sent 50,000 troops to the border, the House remained busypassing a beer resolution. House Resolution 1297 officially supports “the goals and ideals of American Beer Craft Week.” North Korea and American alcoholics rejoiced.

As the new jobs numbers came out showing another “unexpected” increase in the jobless rate, the Democrats were busy crafting another $190 billion raid on taxpayers under the guise of a “jobs bill.” It did not deter them that their last “jobs bill” exacerbated the jobless problem.

And let’s not forget the states. California, which is one step away from going bankrupt, was busy passing a bill that would require “diversity” in California pension plans. The very same pension plans that will soon put taxpayers on the hook for millions.

I could go on, but I’m starting to scare myself. This article is not fiction. Nor is it satire. It is a recap of the month of May in this, our United States.

Is it just me, or is something seriously out of whack in our country?

Nice round-up of incompetence there. Well done.

(spits)

As for that stoopid medal for withholding fire, my son tells me that certain officers and certain NCO’s have stated unequivocally to his merry band of Marines, that they will never recommend them, and in-fact if the situation arises, and someone fails to fire, they will be put up for dereliction of duty.

-In otherwords, no one in the Corps is taking it seriously, and their name for the enemy is not publishable on this fine site.

John has been in-country now for a couple of weeks, and so far he’s havin a ball. 😀

Hope you all have been purchasing your guns and ammo. May come in handy sooner rather than later.

I guess the terrorists found out that the new ROE requires our soldiers to patrol without a round in the chamber. How may Americans will die due to that stupid rule? The latest attacks on bases are getting more successful also, takes a while to chamber a round.

Two pieces of info –

Saw an article about sending National Guard troops to the Horn of Africa – WTF?

Second one was a banner on bottom of tv screen saying General Pretraeous SP? is sending special ops to Iran, Saudi Arabia & Somali to ‘disrupt’ their terriorist groups and also to be used for reconnasaince –

Just wondering if this is the frauds solution to no jobs in this country – get everyone into the military & send them overseas to be cannon fodder…………………………………

@Scrapiron, that is the prerogative of the Local Commander but my Group carries no empty weapons regardless of what you hear from the Newsies. We don’t read Miranda Rights either.

That was the week that was.

Apparently that POS in the White House won’t be going to Arlington on Memorial Day this year. He’ll be on (another) vacation. . .

Said a vacation to Chicago, but he will be back in time for the Paul McCartney concert!!!! 🙄

NANCY MORGAN: very good; thank’s, yes things are wrong fore sure, and there is not even one of them to stand up and declare that WRONG . bye 🙄

In other words, Barry no longer feels he has to conceal his true feelings about our military. I guess the families will now be spared any more speeches of support from Michelle, won’t they?

This whole recap points to a lack of seriousness in our elected officials, most particularly the US congress. We are very much in a situation of Nero fiddling while Rome burned, so the US congress busies itself with trivia while the country disintegrates. They are all ostriches, heads firmly in the ground and diligently avoiding seeing or hearing anything that might disrupt their personal tranquility. This is a national disgrace, and a catastrophe. Their names will live in ignominy.

And history repeats itself again, and again, and again…
When will mankind learn from his mistakes?
As long as we keep forgetting history we will be condemned to repeat it.
I guess that’s what hell is like, huh?

Dr. D. is right, but what meaning has ignominy when nobody ever remembers?
What’s the point if history is forgotten and the mistakes made in the past are never learned from? There will be more Maos, more Stalins, more Hitlers, more Napoleons, Genghis Khans, more Mohammads, more Attilas, etc, etc, etc.

The problem is this; there will never be peace because the love of power will never cease…
It is perhaps Utopian to think that love can rule a world so full of evil, and people who value death above life.

Rifqa Bary, who fought so long and hard trying to earn her independence from her oppressive ideology of hatred has another greater battle to fight.
She has been diagnosed with uterine cancer.

Her faith pulled her through her first batttle, and her faith and our prayers will pull her through to her greatest victory.

I was in the military for about 13 years active and National Guard most of the troops that I served with would have gladly given their lives for this country and the people in it and I don’t no one of them that would take the chance of not shooting if they felt their life or the life of one of their friends or comrades life was in danger but i think if some of our politicians and government officials where there they may have second thoughts.

Spoken like a Patriot, Mark.
I have to agree.
I would also love to see our politicians over there walking around with unloaded chamers and safety on. Something tells me they would refuse duty.

KIM BRUCE: you said it so well; but if i may say this; LOVE has gone to the wrong side of AMERICA; thoses who fell for nice words and false charisma are sorry now to have made the wrong choice, they did not search for what’s behind this show, the trouble is that many influenced the young generation who followed, because they beleive they where right; too bad it happened. bye 🙄

@ Mark Matthews, with the mobilization of Reserve and National Guard Forces the professionalism amongst the ranks has increased and the Active Forces no longer look at Reserve Components as step children. We share the same dangers and the role of the Reserve Component forces has been expanded to a great deal more than one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer.

The skill sets of those that do not Soldier Full time are a welcome addition to the mix. The Patriotism of those that Deploy is immeasurable as there is no longer a Draft and they are in boots because they “want to be” and they count down their deployment days the same as the Active Duty Troopers and are fighting for the same things that we all hold dear. The Term One Force One Fight applies and I am proud to serve with Reserve and National Guard folks.

One needs to remember that when OEF and OIF began, a great many Active Duty Troops had never been to War before. The number of Veterans of past Wars in the ranks of Reserve and National Guard Troops that Soldier Part Time was a gift that the Army needed. We learned lessons together in Iraq and AFPAK. My Hat is off to them.

The Pilots and Flight crew that deliver our Logistics are Air National Guard and Reserve. The Doctors, Nurses and Med Teams that augmented the Active Force were a life saving blessing.
My Hat is off to them.

Reserve and Guard Forces deserve great respect. They have mine
Thanks for Your Service!
