Arizona: Boycotts have consequences [Reader Post]

Poor reporting also should have consequences.

Recently the City Council of Los Angeles, eager to prove itself as ignorant as the President of the United States, the Attorney General of the US and the Director of Homeland Insecurity, directed city heads to refrain from doing business with the state of Arizona for passing an immigration law that is congruous with Federal Law.

In return, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce responded with a suggestion to the Mayor of Los Angeles. It was widely reported that Pierce threatened to shut off electricity to the city of Los Angeles. These outlets were lightening quick there to point out that Arizona can’t do that.

But that’s not what Pierce said.

Pierce wrote

“If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation.”

Pierce does not threaten to cut off electricity to Los Angeles. He invites the city of Los Angeles to renegotiate its contract for power so Los Angeles can find it elsewhere if Arizona has become so repulsive.

Yes boycotts have consequences, but it sure would be nice if they were properly reported. The left-wing media always whines about bloggers not being journalists but incidents like this hardly cultivate confidence in those whose full-time job it is to provide the facts.

But wouldn’t it be cool if Arizona could cut off power to Los Angeles?

Considering that in my opinion 80% of the people living in Los Angeles county are pantywaists and wimps, it would be beautiful if Arizona could cut off both their electricity AND their water! Maybe then Lindsay Lohan would stay home and stay sober.

I used to live in Los Angeles – back when it was a good place to live. Now I live in Central Virginia and I’m much happier and much safer in my home.

Don’t worry, few summers finish without a notable power outage–believe me, the last thing we want is to lose AC in July, even though we know how to cope. But this time maybe the Angelinos will have a new take on it.

It is really too bad that we are a nation of illiterates.
Lucianne posted a comment yesterday stipulating that the California penal code has language which is the same as the law recently adopted in Arizona.
A California law enforcement officer, on arresting any individual, is required to request that persons’ citizenship information, in the form of written documents.
It is about as bad as Napolitano and Holder can condemn a bill which they have not read.
I would challenge Napolitano and Holder to name another nation which does not check on the citizenship or legality of persons within her borders. Does not happen.
But Obama? He has to APOLOGIZE to China. OMG.

Lindsey Lohan missed her court date this AM. Supposedly, she missed it because she missed her air flight. Supposedly, she missed her flight because they wouldn’t let her on. Supposedly, they wouldn’t let her on the plane because she didn’t have her passport (it was stolen, she said).

Sounds like “checking her papers” to me.

I helped the retarded monkey Mexico calls a president today. I turned in three criminal Mexicans and they were immediately arrested. I have known for a while they were working on a farm who’s foreman is a green card Mexican. Every one I see from now on gets a dime (actually a quarter) dropped on them. The law has to respond or they get a complaint lodged against them also.

Peirce’s point is that if LA insists on a boycott over all things made in Arizona, they must then also by such decision boycott Arizona produced electricity, or else they are being half-hearted hypocrites.

Camp Nathan Smith got whacked in Kandahar today. Another pesky bomb that raised a little dust and destroyed some vehicles and tore up the Afghan Police Station. As the Airfield has been hit about four times in the last 72 hours I have about ten teams out now. There are some “safe houses” that will be visited in an hour or so. Things are getting pretty sporty here.

The truth is a figment far outside the reach of your mind, Precigil, as your blind faith towards those you attempt to defend ideologicaly would rather leave you a corpse in an unmarked grave once they are done with their current set of plans. The attempt to repeat the history of the Russian Revolution of 1917 is happening within the United States, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Revolution_(1917) . Blindly faithful followers of Lenin, also deemed “useful idiots” by Lenin, were later killed or placed into labor prisons aka GULAGs as they would have been burdensome parasites otherwise to his Reigme. Progressives within the United States have used constant negative propaganda on American themed Conservatism and Free Market ideals to shove forward a, “free man’s” utopia of “free food, healthcare, and luxury goods.” This bare bones promise of free health care and luxury is a flame that brings in the moths, and you Precigil are a moth to the plans of the Progressive. Little moth, you speak as if you understand history but show little to no grasp of it at all as you flutter around echoing your masters words. Very cute, just watch out for that flame.

A police state? If you think this is a police state in where you live, look at those who rule your Congressional District for it is those who support that mentality of total control over you and frankly such districts are slanted Democratic in position. The attempt to rewrite history and swapping political parties will not work within this group of blog users. I do advise that you take an accounting class or two, your math and understanding of book keeping is comedical little moth.

And Republicans are hardly the only people wheeling and dealing with large business CEOs, aka Phizer deals in New London and the monopoly granted to them via the unlawful Healthcare bill pushed by the Democrats. For decades, your masters have dealed far more with Special Interests and back room bargins with Unions to garner massive funds and personal “gifts” to incumbent Democrats. This is not just a simple Republican problem, but if you wish to turn a blind eye apon what your masters do behind your back then very well do so at your own peril.

The Arizona immigration law will likely have worse consequences for the Arizona economy than any boycotts:

“The Texas-based Perryman Group calculated that if all unauthorized immigrants were removed from Arizona, the state would lose $26.4 billion in economic activity, $11.7 billion in gross state product, and approximately 140,324 jobs.”

For the U.S. as a whole, the Perryman Group has calculated that the removal of all unauthorized immigrants would result in the loss of over $551 billion in economic activity, and nearly $243 billion from the gross domestic product.

That’s certainly just what we need.

Greg, speaking as an Arizonan, if all the illegals leave we will all survive very nicely; because speaking as a statistician, your figures are totally questionable, and I’m only saying that because I’m too charitable to say ****.
The impact of illegal costs is obvious when you can see incarceration figures, for instance. About $30000/year minimum and probably state wide at least 1/3 of prisoners are illegals. Likewise, clinics and schools can come fairly close. But the estimate of what they produce is a guess based on another guess ad infinitum. First we don’t know what their jobs are, or many would quickly be fired. Second, many are not working at regular jobs for a steady rate, they are working sporadically.
Here’s another big cost/benefit question which is hard to resolve. School districts get Fed money for children, paid per capita as of a certain date. It’s good to have a big enrollment on that date, as far as getting Federal money, and it leads to glossing over the number of illegal students, because it is assumed that the money covers them. But as long as I’ve lived here we have districts having special elections to ask for budget overrides, because they are losing money. One big money loser is usually bilingual education… I’ve quit voting for the overrides. They’ve kept that extra property tax kicked along too long by saying “your taxes won’t rise.” Yeah, but they won’t go away, either.
“Hundreds of billions” must be all over the country. We don’t have that big a budget.
Let’s consider another thing about “boycotts.” LA canceled a $7 million contract with us. Big whoop. They have no money, and they can keep their IOUs. The first conference casualty was a group of immigration lawyers. They are also the last thing we need here, so fine. Conferences do get canceled and scaled back a lot now–no money flow like there used to be.

A failure to enforce settled Federal Laws has more dire consequences that what Greg references.
The amateur and unprincipled Affirmative Action Hire Administration that has no respect for the Rule of Law is a on an extremely dangerous path.

What is willfully not resolved in Courts may be resolved by “The Governed” in ways that the Nation has not seen since 1861. That is becoming more inevitable every day. If you did not enjoy the Tea Party rallies, the other kind will not be gentle, civil, kind or the results desirable if you love your Country, it’s Constitution and Law and Order. A Nation with no Laws or respect for them is something that I have seen in Third World territory. It is not pretty.

Unresponsive governments or regimes usually don’t last long from my recollections. A Nation with no sovereignty is a vacuum waiting to be filled and eventually become a very bad place for anyone to be. The currency becomes worthless, the economy collapses and the streets are not safe. The free ice cream goes away and then it gets pretty darn sporty.

Take that under advisement. Use Somalia, the Balkan States, Gaza and Cambodia as examples. If you think that the UN will make it better guess again. The UN is just a bully pulpit for those that want the US to fall.

@ Minuteman26, My Oath and Loyalty is to the Constitution and I know the difference between Treason and Un-Lawful Orders as do You many others. I am just hoping that the November Elections will be a positive step in restoring the Rule of Law and the Republic.

As Benjamin Franklin was quoted when leaving Independence Hall and asked what kind of Government the Nation would have, he responded “A Republic if You can keep it”. I sincerely desire that the Rule of Law prevails and We can keep it. I also believe that the end is not justified by the means and that cooler heads prevail. Otherwise America is in for a very bumpy ride and a lot of very substantial principles will at risk and tested, not just in Arizona alone.

The Constitution as written is my guide and I do not take the counsel of Fools regardless of their Office.

That stupid Perryman paper got it’s numbers by comparing the cheap, illegal wages with legal ones, one-for-one, and by assuming (read; wildly guessing) that the costs of compliance would never go down, after the initial (possible) spike. He also failed to take into account the HUGE costs of educating and providing healthcare.

    IOW It’s bullshit.

He’s supported open borders for years, and is the go-to group for many Progressive causes. He’s a guy who thinks “the arts” in Texas actually makes money for the state, so the state should continue to subsidize it…

We have 50 States and each have Sovereignty under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

The “General Welfare” and Commerce Clauses are the most abused by the Congress, DOJ and the Senate. Team Obama ignores the Limits to Federal Authority and “We Won” does not circumvent the 10th Amendment by any Legal stretch of the imagination.

Quote Gov. Brewer, “We will see You in Court”. Bring it. A Constitutional Crisis at the least and Impeachable Offenses at best. The Economy is swirling the bowl, We are at War and those that host magnificent parties for Corrupt Calderone and Fools appluading his disregard for US Laws on the Floor of Congress, shoot hoops, play golf, go white water rafting, fly to Timbuktu on Govt. Aircraft for no clear purpose, offer jobs in violation of the Hatch Act and generally act as Elites need a comeuppance and Due Process.

If the Courts fail, the “governed” just may take other options and that will be very ugly. Then the gloves come off. I can see it from here but not my front porch swing or my cattle grazing in Montana. As sure as winter bring snow at my place, there is trouble brewing in the USA. I have never observed a peaceful Regime Change and Taxation, Broken Laws, Corruption and Malfeasance in Office have consequences and lip service does not resolve a damn thing. Appointing Czars is reminiscent of Royalty in Russia. You remember what happened to those guys…Lets get beyond that and stop meddling in things that are not relevant and fix things that are broken because the alternative will suck Big Time.

Kandahar Omlettes for morning grub. I want steak, fresh eggs, hashed browns, diced Vidalia Onions and Georgia Peaches with toast. At least the coffee is good…

We need to take back our USA. USA should be only for European Whites, all others need to go back to their place of origin peacefully. We need a pure white society that has almost no crime and drama, where our kids can walk safely on our street and our money is safe is in the banks without the foreigners and the Gov’t stealing it. Legal and illegal immigration should be totally stopped unless the visitors are from Europe and are pure white, no one else should be allowed. We have no place for Jews and Arabs. Support FAIR, the tea party and our Republican leaders. They are bringing the law into our hands finally. Arizona is a start, we have more ways to go.
Thanks, we need all your votes.

You aren’t fooling anyone RichardFL. Your bigoted post has no support by any variation of Republican. It’s classic white supremest neo-Nazi drivel, and everyone who understands anything about that movement knows full well that they came from a despicable branch of racist, fascist, Democratic Socialists. Or else you are a typical liberal sock-puppet, who posts such excrement in a pathetic attempt to discredit sites such as this. Either way your effort is wasted here. Crawl back to your KKK inspired cesspool and rot.

From having told neo-nazis and white supremacists where to go, that post doesn’t ring true. It sounds like someone trying to imitate one. Perhaps Richard is a leftist moby? It sure sounds like what mentally ill lefties believe Conservatives think. Plus it links a racist post to a Conservative site. Then the same lefties turn around and publicize/gloat over finding such a post which they use to prove how racist we are.

It’s become clear that the true racists are dems.

    @HardRight

Yeah, it’s hard to tell with these Democratic fanatics. Some of the genuine Nazi garbage I’ve run into are so stupid, they don’t even get their own conspiracy propaganda correct. And the far-left racist posers only copy enough of the cray rhetoric to try to sell themselves, and hope will make them sound like the KKK or Aryan Nation nut-case. Either way they are pathetic losers.
