“Green economy” is a Spanish disaster: Obama tries to stifle the report [Reader Post]

On October 31, 2008 Barack Obama said :

“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America”

Part of that Obama “fundamental” change is the overhaul of the basis of the economy from what works to what doesn’t work. One thing that doesn’t work is the ‘green economy.” A report from Chris Horner shows just how much of a failure the green economy is.

Pajamas Media has received a leaked internal assessment produced by Spain’s Zapatero administration. The assessment confirms the key charges previously made by non-governmental Spanish experts in a damning report exposing the catastrophic economic failure of Spain’s “green economy” initiatives.

On eight separate occasions, President Barack Obama has referred to the “green economy” policies enacted by Spain as being the model for what he envisioned for America.

This alarmed Obama so much that he sent someone with a vested interest in the green economy (someone besides Al Gore) to stifle the report

Later came the revelation that Obama administration senior Energy Department official Cathy Zoi — someone with serious publicized conflict of interest issues — demanded an urgent U.S. response to the damaging report from the non-governmental Spanish experts so as to protect the Obama administration’s plans.

It doesn’t save money. It doesn’t save jobs. It cost more and it kills jobs.

The government report does not expressly confirm the highest-profile finding of the non-governmental report: that Spain’s “green economy” program cost the country 2.2 jobs for every job “created” by the state. However, the figures published in the government document indicate they arrived at a job-loss number even worse than the 2.2 figure from the independent study.

They are spending $750,000 per “green” job.

The “green economy” is a nice thought but it is an economic disaster. Spain is abandoning green efforts as Obama and his idiot Senate leaders prepare to inflict this damage upon this country.

Just as universal health care has failed everywhere it’s been implemented, so has the “green economy.” Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over in hopes of a different result.

Trying to stick us with a green economy is insane.

PERHAPS THIS WILL KILL OBAMA’S IDEAS AND SHUT-UP THE LIBERAL LEFT-WING CONGRESS.

Spain’s green jobs boondoggle
By Michelle Malkin • April 13, 2009 03:33 PM

Ay caramba. Look what the green job boondoggle in Spain bodes for the porkulus green jobs here in the U.S. Confirmation of what we already knew, but extremely useful nonetheless:

Every “green job” created with government money in Spain over the last eight years came at the cost of 2.2 regular jobs, and only one in 10 of the newly created green jobs became a permanent job, says a new study released this month. The study draws parallels with the green jobs programs of the Obama administration.

President Obama, in fact, has used Spain’s green initiative as a blueprint for how the United States should use federal funds to stimulate the economy. Obama’s economic stimulus package, which Congress passed in February, allocates billions of dollars to the green jobs industry.

But the author of the study, Dr. Gabriel Calzada, an economics professor at Juan Carlos University in Madrid, said the United States should expect results similar to those in Spain:

“Spain’s experience (cited by President Obama as a model) reveals with high confidence, by two different methods, that the U.S. should expect a loss of at least 2.2 jobs on average, or about 9 jobs lost for every 4 created, to which we have to add those jobs that non-subsidized investments with the same resources would have created,” wrote Calzada in his report: Study of the Effects on Employment of Public Aid to Renewable Energy Sources.

54% of US Homes, Businesses and Industry receives electricity from coal fired power plants.
http://www.ucsusa.org/clean_energy/coalvswind/c01.html

12% is Hydro Electric
http://www.waterencyclopedia.com/Ge-Hy/Hydroelectric-Power.html

20% is from Nuclear Plants
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_by_country

1.8% comes from wind.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power

The remainder is from Natural Gas fired plants.

Ok then…lets shut down ALL of those dirty old coal burning plants, shut down coal mining too while we are at it.

“Green” will cost a lot of jobs and increase your energy costs vastly if you can get power.
Until the technology arrives to increase power generation from “Green” sources at an affordable cost for Homes and Industry lets not kill the economy yet with foolish notions.

Not only is Team Obama economically illiterate but just plain NOT tech savvy.

DrJohn, let me just add to your post… which is entirely spot on… by providing the base data that Obama is trying to hide. The report referred to was one I posted about Jan 11th of this year, “Lookin’ for jobs in all the wrong places”. Spain is the first country to have enough time under their belt with a “green agenda” funded by govt’/public… and the sorry arse reality it produced.

Sadly, few media picked up on that study, save to diss the source in order to save face.

Good post, and thanks for bringing it up again, guy. It needs to pounded into the heads of Americans over and over before any vote on cap/tax/trade can happen.

Readers Digest version…..

“You can’t Fix STUPID”!!!!

Obama is , as far as knowledgeable experience goes, the DUMBEST President we’ve ever had!! Factor in the Group of Crooked Lefty Clowns he has surrounded himself with, and all we can do, is wait for the NEXT election cycle to fix things, as there is no way THOSE guys are going to do anything right! 4 years wasted…. 3 cheers for “Change, you can believe in”!!!! Yeah, Right.

The Green industry is no industry at all for the most part. If it can be called an industry, it made of leaches who are very effective at tapping into the public coffers to spend and erect boondoggles that never pay back their investments, but sound really good to political hacks who have vested interests in re-elections and personal bank account growth without intelligent labor.

Here’s a Green example of abject stupidity: Nantucket’s Cape Wind Whips Up Hypocrisy

Once the boondoggles are erected, those who put them up run as far away as they can so as to not deal with the response to the idiocy and outright theft perpetrated on the taxpayers.

Ask anyone in Northern California how the Altamount Pass windmills are doing. They’ve been in place for over a generation. Does anyone notice that they’re NOT functional? Does anyone care? Perhaps Pelosi and her friends have a long term plan for them. It certainly is not to generate electricity.

. . . But new ones are coming to a pass or valley near you.

Most surprising of all is that Obama’s pole numbers have not dropped to 30% or less. This administration is not only inept, even when compared to the last one, but it is making decisions and taking actions that are harmful to the long term health of America.

From playing racism cards, to ineptly and peculiarly insulting the business community, to ignoring the national and personal dept levels, to basic stupidity applied to the foreign affairs of America, is there anything this White House and this Congress are doing right?

How about just permanently and with extreme prejudice, getting rid of all buying of politicians from any sector, and getting rid of all and any favour pandering by lobbyists.

When is enough, enough?

Most of the “green” in this “industry” can be found in the Goracle and friends’ bank accounts. It’s been paying off handsomely for them and the arugula eaters. The rest of us better wake up or get used to living on hot air and empty promises.

Denmark isn’t exactly succeeding with wind power either, only it isn’t mentioned much. All the liberal disasters of this year make me think of various fiction where someone (the libs, in this case) got their wish and many tragic and hilarious unintended consequences. And the usual ending is a moral about being sadder but wiser. I hope we do that well.

I was listening to somebody talking on the radio about “green jobs”…his comment was that if there really was money to be made in “green jobs”, which should be the motivation for any company, we would already be doing it.
The fact that we are not should tell you something.

Most surprising of all is that Obama’s poll numbers have not dropped to 30% or less.

Seeing 53% of Americans voted for this Guy…. put that in VISUAL terms, every OTHER person you see, is a Dope, or was Hoodwinked!! (not too bright then)
Now poll numbers are all over the place, depending upon the question asked, but the overall
trend is people ARE waking up, not liking much of what he has done/is doing…, the elections yesterday show people in many areas are willing to change players/clean house (Specter for instance)…. and as time goes by between now and November….. I think the Stupidity will become more evident… and voters more determined to change things, and any change NOW will be better!!!

As to GREEN… only person to get some GREEN from all this is Al Gore!!! Now, the big question is… out of the 100 Million he is said to have made, HOW MUCH of it has HE PERSONALLY invested in GREEN Energy/Environment stuff???? THAT will tell the TRUTH of the matter!!!! Did he put HIS CASH where his MOUTH is?????? I’m betting, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@James Raider:, you may want to keep Cape Wind in mind if or when Romney tries to play conservative again. He teamed up with Kennedy to stop that project while governor because it would cause havoc with the property values…..

Romney’care and Romney’energy…. enough reasons for me to say no way, Jose.

Oh it has created jobs alright. You cannot swing a dead cat around in No. Cal. and not hit dozens of the 2010 version of the Carpetbaggers. SOLAR companies. Only in business through gigantic Gov. grants.

Raider

I get a hoot every time I go back to California to see my Mom, and drive through Tehachipi pass between the desert, and Bakersfeild…

I don’t think I’ve ever driven through there when ALL those windmills were working… and have driven through many many times when none were moving at all

Let’s not forget the way the windmills chop up endangered flying species.
Too bad we can’t get the left to ever face the consequences of their mindless narsicissim based do-gooderism.

Hard Right, they must absolutely play hell with those Winged Unicorns and Pelosi’s Flying Monkeys. 😉

The elephant in the room is nuclear power. The environmental NGOs just can’t bring themselves to admit that their opposition to nuclear in the 70s and 80s has kept us on coal long past the time we should have transitioned to nuclear. Those figures for coal and nukes that Trooper provides should, after 30 years, be reversed – we could easily be 50% nuke by this point and only 20% coal, if we hadn’t abandoned our nuclear build-out due to scaremongering from the NGOs.

@ Romeo13,

I lived for many years in a place called Blackhawk, just a few miles to the North West of the pass, and you are right, many, many times, NO windmills were turning.

The problems with these things are endless, but the guys who put them up have political connections, and make huge money, increased because of things like the tax incentives to invest in these idiotic schemes that become a blight on the landscape.

Now other geniuses want to put windmills off Nantucket. This is the Ocean. Salt water. Waves, etc. Anyone thinking about how they’ll “service” these things as the salt air destroys them? Float a barge out there maybe? Sure, that’ll work.

….. It’s insane.

And yet, it isn’t like other people aren’t noticing. Sorry to give CNN traffic, but this article is all over what a flop alternative energy is. The last line says it plain enough, green energy needs subsidies to work.

James Raider,

Wow. Nice digs.

Tom in CA

@ Tom in CA,

Cute, Tom, cute. 😆

OT, LOL.

Well, now I know whay I didn’t get the unicorn I was promised.
Also explains what’s been pooping on my car. What kind of gun do you use for flying monkeys?
