Republicans Attacking Republicans

Illogically high expectations about pinpoint accuracy and target discrimination in a fire-fight are the fantasy of armchair-academics and videogame players. Men on the ground know that war is sloppy and rough. Combat is not a noun or a place that you are “in,” but rather a verb, a thing that you “do” to other people. Principally, combat is imposing your will on the enemy by violence of action and the ugly truth is that the process kills all kinds of people: good ones, bad ones, and yes, even our own. When our expectations of success and precision are unrealistic it threatens not only our service men, it emboldens our enemy, and it breaks our will to stand and fight.

-Ilario Pantano, May 8, 2007 in defense of the Haditha Marines

Ilario Pantano recently won the Republican primary and stands a good chance of winning a seat in NC District 7 against Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre. But apparently Pantano’s past has “come back to haunt him”. Not, really though…

No, this isn’t the case of conservatives attacking Republicans, but Republican sore losers attacking fellow Republicans:

Two unsuccessful Republican candidates in North Carolina have turned their guns on the primary election winner, endangering the party’s hopes of defeating longtime Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.) in November.

GOP voters in the 7th District on May 4 nominated Ilario Pantano, a charismatic Iraq warveteran with a personal story many find compelling and a past encounter with military justice that gives others concern.

Among the latter is Will Breazeale, the second-place finisher and 2008 nominee against McIntyre, who told POLITICO on Wednesday he would do what he can to keep Pantano from winning the seat. He said the third-place finsher, Randy Crow, would join him at a news conference Tuesday in Wilmington, N.C., to discuss their plans.

“We’re going to work against him,” Breazeale — also an Iraq veteran — said. “If the Republicans don’t like it, they can kick me out.”

Like Charlie Crist, and unlike Bennett‘s graceful bow out, the primary losers seem motivated more by ego than by ideological policy differences.

Breazeale claims he can’t support Pantano’s nomination due to good conscience:

I cannot help but think that perhaps many who voted for Ilario Pantano are now realizing their nominee’s claim to fame is the execution of two unarmed Iraqis?

But Pantano makes no secrets about the controversy, and was cleared of the charges. (He also wrote a book about the experience).

Lorie Byrd writes:

Breazeale argues that Democrat incumbent McIntyre will use the issue against Pantano in the general election. If McIntyre is stupid enough to go that route I predict the tactic will be every bit as effective as it has been for Breazeale, and might even ensure the first Republican in 140 years takes the seat.

When Ace of Spades wrote about Pantano’s primary win last week the first comment to his blog post was, “What are the odds his Dem challenger outright calls him a murderer anyway, even though he was cleared?” The response from another commenter was, “If it happens, I think the campaign will effectively end, since the D will have just ended his chances of victory and indeed his political career.” They accurately predicted the tactic, but got the party wrong, although the accusations do sound a lot like those of one Democrat – Rep. John Murtha, who declared the Marines in Haditha guilty before all the evidence was in. Several years ago Pantano commented on Murtha’s charges in the Washington Post.

Lorie Byrd goes on to say that Republicans aren’t split on the issue of who to support:

The Politico headline cited in the beginning of this post is incorrect. The Republican party is not split. Pantano’s two opponents lost and instead of honoring the wishes of the voters of NC’s 7th congressional district, and the overwhelming victory they handed Pantano with 69 percent of the vote, the men are desperately trying to stay in the game. To do so they may attempt to split the party, but that is not going to happen.

Iliano Pantano is a strong candidate. He is young and energetic, as well as media savvy and a wonderful speaker. Most important, he appears ready to do the work necessary to win the race. His “100 Days of Work” videos remind me of Charles Kuralt’s On the Road reports – in both production and entertainment value. (In the first video his barber talks with Pantano in a down home southern drawl about Mr. Smith going to Washington and “filly-bustering” and says he wants to see more politicians like that.)

  1. I was elated to read your article on Pantano’s victory. A grave injustice was perpetrated on this hero when he was on active duty. Michael Savage championed his cause and I’m glad to hear the people of North Carolina have rewarded this fine soldier and patriot. I am disgusted by the behavior of the losers in this race, especially Breazeale the Iraq veteran. As a retired AF Officer, I’m calling this guy out. You are an embarassment to people in uniform. It’s a good thing Pantano wasn’t in a fox hole with him. On the bright side, at least the people were given the choice to vote for the candidate they wanted. I wish I could say the same for another fine patriot, Lt Col Steve Labate. The RINOs on Long Island are usurping the rights of we the people in Congressional District 2 to vote for the candidate of our choice. The Suffolk RINOs have nominated John Gomez, Sean Hannity’s best friend, who only recently registered as a Republican. His recent registration in the party makes him ineligible to primary a legitimate Conservative Republican, Steve Labate. The Suffolk County Republican party leaders are running a shell game and they think the people of the 2nd CD are too stupid to notice. It seems the powers to be are more impressed with star power than in supporting the real Conservative who has served his country in military and civilian roles. We need warriors in Congress, not people who want to ride the coat tails of their famous friend. We will get Steve Labate on the ballot for the Republican Primary and let the people decide who should take on Steve Israel. “Just when we thought flag@whitehouse.gov–which appears to be alive and well when clicked–was scary and invasive–it seems the Obama administration’s Census Bureau has outdone itself. A US census worker, driving a metallic gray Ford Taurus-type car, has been reported to be combing through the Memphis, TN suburb of Germantown knocking on doors asking people for information on their neighbors.”

If I was a NC Resident of his district, He could count on my Vote.

An article 32 hearing found no credible evidence or testimony for the accusation, and declined to prosecute Pantano, dropping all charges. Enough of the nonsense!

His Republican challengers need to either support him or STFU!
He won the primary. The Voters have spoken.

There is something that smells real bad when ‘Republicans’ can’t accept the will of the people. These politicians deserve to be ostracized forever, they are not legitimate Republicans and seem to be more invested with the opposition. Perhaps it will be a blessing for these turncoats to display their true colors. Good luck Pantano, I hope I get to vote for you some day in a national election.

These two losers are one of the reasons the tea parties exist. For too long, we the people have had to vote for the lesser of the evils. Times have changed. We want candidates and elected officials to do our will when they represent us in elected office. In NC, the people have spoken. Those who lost, were not the type of person the people wanted to represent them. I for one,, will contribute to any opponent to their political aspirations is they campaign against Pantano. I will also encourage all of those who served in Iraq with me to help. Does anyone have the email address or phone number for these REMFs?

Another racist running for congress. Check out C. Mason Weaver running for California’s 53rd District. http://www.cmasonweaverforcongress.com/

He bills himself as “a black man who doesn’t need a teleprompter”. Check him out in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiyzZd0wO2g. He also has committed the sin of attending tea parties! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be-xl6ehrA4 Unfortunately, he has funding issues. He appreciates any help!

Mr Weaver gives us a choice in California if he can win the Republican primary.

  12. PS – My door is always open to all, either virtually through twitter [ @ilario_pantano ] or if you’re in my area, at our headquarters in Wilmington. You don’t have to be from N.C. 7 to tell me what you think and what your concerns are about what’s going on right now.

Long Island Patriot: I was very upset to read your posting about what is going on in CD-2 New York… I think that all Republicans should now rally behind your candidate – Lt. Col. Stephen Labate, or I should say we MUST rally behind this candidate. If we don’t, the results are very scary for us as a Country.

My fear is that if Labate does not succeed in matching the big money of FOX NEWS and Sean Hannity – then all of the other networks and wealthy commentators will do the same thing – they will bring in their best friend in one district after another, and so it will continue.. This cannot be allowed – and we must show them that it will not be accepted. Things are bad enough now!! Networks must be kept out of our politics, otherwise we will lose everyting – even our vote will mean nothing… They will then control who we vote for and what we hear, which is something that I find very scary.

I found his website – it was http://www.LabateForCongress.com – Labate is an Iraq War Veteran, too (Sir: Thank you for your service)

I always felt that when Oprah interjected herself in the Obama campaign, that was a bad thing. Had that not happened, we may not be in this mess – and for sure, the country would not have this health care disaster. WE MUST SEND A STRONG SIGNAL THAT THIS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AND THE ONLY WAY THAT WILL HAPPEN IS BY SUPPORTING THIS GUY.

We must show Fox News and Sean Hannity that THEY DO NOT CONTROL OUR ELECTIONS OR OUR CANDIDATES. This is OUR United States of America, NOT HANNITY’S AMERICA. If this is not stopped now and they succeed, it will happen again and again in one district after another. Let’s turn the Labate campaign into the Scott Brown of New York – give him National Support!!!

    THROW THE BUMS OUT!!

As we all know, we’ve picked up a couple more sore losers since May. But, what I want to comment about Is Illario Pantano.

I know we have discussed this brave man in the past so I decided to use the FA search tool and found one I’ve never read. I must have been out of town when Word wrote this blog and am terribly disappointed now that I see Illario Pantano graciously honored FA by commenting, just like us, and I missed it. :(

Salon has discovered that he has a “real shot” in his race and wrote a scathing hit piece, the tone suggests that he was guilty, just lucky.

    http://www.salon.com/news/politics/2010_elections/?story=/politics/war_room/2010/09/27/ilario_pantano_congress

The long knives are out since the democrats have decided to campaign on dirt, not their accomplishments, we know why.

Their newly unveiled Dirt 2010 campaign theme has given the nod to the LSM to run with garbage like this Salon article…..and, per a nutjob Kos blogger, the NYTimes is rumored to be writing a Boehner had an affair hit piece, and another news source is hinting that his chief of staff is gay.

Certainly, all this crap will indeed help this country.

BTW, anyone remember Philadelphia Steve? He commented on this article, looks like he’s become a Salon fixture.
