I think you’ll like this, Mike:

    The GOP 3 Year Pledge
Posted by: Duane R. Patterson at 10:45 PM

Like you, I watched with disgust and dismay as the Democrats in the House of Representatives joined hands, jumped off the cliff, and saddled the next several generations of Americans with trillions of dollars of new debt, and ensured that unless defeated in court, or defunded by future Congresses, the American health care system, the greatest such system in the world, will never again be as great as it is today.

Like you, I am shaking with anger that the Democratic Party did not listen to their constituents. In fact, Democratic leadership was defiant enough this morning, they stuck their collective thumb in the eye of the protesters gathered at the Capitol, walking the gauntlet from the Cannon office building to the House of Representatives as though the Obamacare vote is some modern day civil rights march. Make no mistake about it. For the last 15 months, the health care debate has never been about rights, it has never been about coverage, and it has never been about reducing cost. Obamacare is solely about the government’s acquisition of power, and to exercise control over a facet of life in which every American will have to participate sooner or later.

So where do we go from here? First, I want to recognize and thank the Democrats who did not vote for this monstrosity. But in my book, they are still part of the problem. From this day forward, I will not be convinced that there is such a thing as a moderate Democrat. Regardless of how they may have voted today, all of these Democrats voted in their own caucus to elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. They voted to make Steny Hoyer the Majority Leader. They chose to put Louise “Deem-‘N-Pass” Slaughter in as chair of the House Rules Committee. They stood by Charles Rangel as chair of Ways And Means until ethical lapses became so glaring, Rangel had to step down. In short, the reason the vote took place today is because the so-called moderate Democrats put the leadership in place to make it so.

There was a lot of damage done to the Republic today, but that damage can be minimized or undone if the activism of the American people continues. Therefore,

    * I pledge that for the next three years, ending on March 20, 2013, I will spend at least part of my day, six days a week, working to replace Democrats at all levels of state and federal government with Republicans.
    * I will support the Republican nominee, regardless of my preference in the primary, in all of the House, Senate, and statewide campaigns in 2010. I will also work to elect the Republican presidential nominee, regardless of my primary preference, in 2012. I will not make the mistake again of allowing my apathy lead to a second term of Barack Obama.
    * I will not be deterred if the Republican Party isn’t unanimous on every issue in the next three years. I understand there will be disappointments in the months and years ahead, probably several of them. But those disappointments pale in comparison to the arrogance and recklessness shown by the Democratic Party.
    * I will contact my county Republican headquarters, and ask how I can best help this fall. I will stay in touch with them right through the 2012 presidential campaign. I will walk precincts, make phone calls, e-mail, use social media, whatever it takes to remove the Democrats from the halls of power.
    * I will resist the temptation of the third party movement, and instead encourage the Tea Party activists and independents to give the Republicans one more chance at leadership.
    * I will work to bring a Republican governor and Republican legislatures in my state. Redistricting will begin next year after the results of the Census, and Republicans drawing the new Congressional lines will make regaining power easier.
    * I will especially take an active interest in state attorney general races, like John Eastman in California, http://www.eastmanforag.com, as it will be up to the state AG’s to engage in the legal battle on which Obamacare will next have to be fought.
    * I will make an effort to win back the 18-25 year olds who are now feeling buyer’s remorse at having voted for hope and change in 2008. They are disillusioned with what they’ve seen, they’re now open to reason, and I will more actively engage with this generation to convince them that their home should be in the Republican Party.

My pledge to the Republican party is a three year pledge with a firm expiration date. If enough Americans take the pledge, on March 20, 2013, we will find ourselves with a Republican-controlled House and Senate, a Republican in the White House, and more Republicans controlling the state houses. By that time, we will be able to judge whether the Republicans have learned from the Democrats’ mistakes, or merely repeated them.

If the Republicans employ the principles they espouse now in the minority – limited government, reduced government spending, easing the tax and regulatory burden that is stifling business and job growth, and a robust foreign policy based on strength, not weakness, the country will be better off with them in leadership. But may God have mercy on their souls if they take the trust the American people have invested in them for the next three years and become just as corrupt, power hungry and deaf to the will of the American people as the Democrats.

I urge you to join me in this pledge.

    What To Do Next
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 1:27 PM

Even as the votes are cast, opponents of Obamacare and the serial assaults on the Constitution it embodies both in the substance of its provisions and the methods used to advance it have to realize that the only solution is repeal, and the only path to repeal is a GOP majority in the House.

If you are genuinely angry or afraid or both, then mark today with the first of many contributions to the Republican National Congressional Committee, which has been transforming itself into an effective and very focused organization in the last two months. It is time to give up any lingering resentment over the squandering of the GOP majorities, and to focus on the future. Start with a contribution symbolic of the commitment to the repeal of the deals today, and do it online here.

From the NRCC I’d like to see a target list of Democrats, ranked in tiers of ten races, from “must vulnerable” to “most secure” based on the voting history and present polling data on the district. The new activists don’t want to sit on their hands until the fall, but want to start organizing and focusing their efforts now. Congressional Democrats have gone all in for the president’s radical agenda, and the NRCC ought to recognize the desire of the newly activated and the re-energized to do more than send a check though those checks matter. Just point to November’s targets, and a great deal of preparatory work will get done between now and the emergence of nominees.

  6. @Wordsmith: That’s a very good rundown of what we can do if we REALLY care about protecting our country.

There are going to be some who have a problem with this one:

I will support the Republican nominee, regardless of my preference in the primary, in all of the House, Senate, and statewide campaigns in 2010. I will also work to elect the Republican presidential nominee, regardless of my primary preference, in 2012. I will not make the mistake again of allowing my apathy lead to a second term of Barack Obama.

Remember all the folks who said it would teach us all a lesson if we let the Dems win in 2006 and 2008? I wonder how they feel about having socialism imposed on us all? Is destroying America as we know it a cost worth paying for some minor faction of conservatives to get their revenge on the RINOS?

    Guys,

If we don’t join forces with moderates, independents, across the aisle/center-left/blue dog Dems (like the the 34 who stood with ALL 178 House Republicans), and yes, even RINOs and CINOs, then consider Dems in power for the next couple of election cycles as well. Maybe by then, the conservative movement purists will have taught themselves a lesson.

I’m not saying put Rinos in positions of leadership. Just don’t alienate those mainstream Americans who hover in the center.

    Mike’s America
The cut-off-your-nose approach of the stay-home Reps is a real danger. And so is interstate campaigning. It’s great, as in Brown, and terrible if the push puts up a conservative in the primary who can’t win in the general. Like, for instance, here in AZ where McCain is actually liked and a lot of Hayworth’s support, I suspect, is coming from outside the state. I know I get tweaked to read “I’m in Ohio–I don’t know anything about AZ–but I know JD is a good man (because I hate McCain).” JD ran a radio ad with an “I am a good Christian” theme, and comment in the AZ Republic blog was about 99% negative, starting with the Christian conservatives who were offended that he would declare himself “good.” It was not the Dem trolls who were knocking him. I’ll vote for whichever wins the primary but if I were not an Independent I wouldn’t vote for JD in the primary, simply because I don’t think he’ll appeal to the large Hispanic bloc.

  12. @pat: I’ve got no problem with JD Hayworth challenging McCain. I encourage strong conservatives to challenge more moderate Republicans just as we have tried in SC to get a more conservative alternative to Lindsey Graham.

Now, that doesn’t mean I’d run Jesse Helms in Maine but then Jesse wouldn’t win the primary either.

McCain deserves a strong challenge from Hayworth and it seems to be paying dividends in that McCain has tacked to the right rather strongly in the past year.

And I have NO PROBLEM supporting McCain if he wins the primary in AZ.

It’s time we finally bury this suicidal idea that we will dump on our own team just because they don’t meet some impossible standard of ideological purity. Now that we’ve seen the tremendous cost to our liberty and freedom of following such a destructive path I hope we have heard the last of it.

I had the idea in 2008 of a pledge whereby we promise to support ALL the nominees of our party. That doesn’t mean we have to give them all money, but that does mean we don’t openly trash them and threaten to boycott their election just because we disagree on one or two points.

The pledge is founded on the notion that if you want to be part of this party and have your conservative ideals taken seriously and given a full hearing then you have to be willing to support the eventual nominees of the party even if you disagree in part.

People who get mad and threaten to take their marbles and go home if they don’t get their way 100% of the time have no place in a successful political party and should not be given any consideration whatsoever.

In my book, any Republican in the House who votes to unseat Nancy Pelosi from the Speaker’s Chair and any Republican Senator who votes to unseat Harry Reid as Majority Leader is worthy of our support. If we had followed such a course we might never had been forced to endure this massive assault on our freedom.

Now is the time when all our strength will be required to overcome this abomination. The only way we stand a chance is by uniting and not dividing.

  17. This Will Not Stand: Newt On the Passage of Obamacare
    by Newt Gingrich

    03/22/2010

    This will not stand.

No one should be confused about the outcome of Sunday’s vote

This is not the end of the fight it is the beginning of the fight.

The American people spoke decisively against a big government, high tax, Washington knows best, pro trial lawyer centralized bureaucratic health system

In every recent poll the vast majority of Americans opposed this monstrosity

Speaker Pelosi knew the country was against the bill. That is why she kept her members trapped in Washington and forced a vote on Sunday.

She knew if she let the members go home their constituents would convince them to vote no.

The Obama-Pelosi-Reid machine combined the radicalism of Alinsky, the corruption of Springfield and the machine power politics of Chicago.

Sunday was a pressured, bought, intimidated vote worthy of Hugo Chavez but unworthy of the United States of America.

It is hard to imagine how much pressure they brought to bear on congressman Stupak to get him to accept a cynical, phony clearly illegal and unconstitutional executive order on abortion. The ruthlessness and inhumanity of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid machine was most clearly on display in their public humiliation of Stupak.

The real principles of the machine were articulated by Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings who was impeached and removed from the bench as a federal judge, before being elected to the House when he said “”There ain’t no rules here, we’re trying to accomplish something. . . .All this talk about rules. . . .When the deal goes down . . . we make ‘em up as we go along.”

It is hard for the American people to believe their leaders on the left are this bad.
    They are.

The American people will not allow a corrupt machine to dictate their future.

Together we will pledge to repeal this bill and start over

Together we will prove that this will not stand

2010 and 2012 will be among the most important elections in American history

These elections will allow us to save America from a leftwing machine of unparalleled corruption arrogance and cynicism

Sunday was one more step in the fight against a “Washington knows best” and “Washington should run everything” attitude.

Let us turn now to the Senate to continue this fight for real reform, for real self government, and for policies that create jobs, improve health outcomes, and increase freedom.

David Frum, former speechwriter to President George W. Bush:

    http://www.frumforum.com/waterloo

Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.

It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for today’s expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. [...]

No illusions please: This bill will not be repealed. Even if Republicans scored a 1994 style landslide in November, how many votes could we muster to re-open the “doughnut hole” and charge seniors more for prescription drugs? How many votes to re-allow insurers to rescind policies when they discover a pre-existing condition? How many votes to banish 25 year olds from their parents’ insurance coverage? And even if the votes were there – would President Obama sign such a repeal?

We followed the most radical voices in the party and the movement, and they led us to abject and irreversible defeat. [...]

So today’s defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will now be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the responsibility-free talkers on television and radio. For them, it’s mission accomplished. For the cause they purport to represent, it’s Waterloo all right: ours.

McCain has a track record since he took off his uniform of turning on his own people when he is needed to stand firm. Think amnesty and McCain Feingold which was a direct attack on the First Amendment. Graham is hot on Cap and Trade and amnesty which will only quicken the bankruptcy of this nation. I cannot in good conscience support either one of these, but like the past presidential election I did put my vote in McCain’s column but that was only as a vote against Obama not as a vote for McCain.

Most of the time I have no problem with his moral compass. I really can’t find it in me to hate him over the amnesty because I’m here, there are a lot of Hispanics here, their sob stories may be their own fault but nevertheless, they take them seriously and they vote. We see the problem as one of border enforcement. They should have built a real wall on the border as soon as they thought about an amnesty, because now everyone knows it will be one amnesty demand after another unless it’s easier to keep them out. (by now that wall would probably be only from San Diego to Yuma, though, since the govt. was building it)

  39. American Voter says: 39

    PART ONE
I love this country, honor my families’ and all Americans’ military sacrifices, and strive to be a good steward of America and the world for the sake of future generations. . . regardless of race, color, or creed. As part of being a good steward, I strive to stay engaged and knowledgeable in the governmental processes at local and national levels. As necessary, I actively write letters, make phone calls, attend rallies-debates-townhalls, in-person lobby elected officials. . .and as appropriate, converse with friends and family on current events. In short, I am an everyday citizen, nothing out of the ordinary — trying to lead a life respectful of others.

With that said, I have a story to tell. . .having been slandered/libeled by US Congressman Barney Frank and several news organizations this weekend . . .the real story needs to be heard. I have relayed the following bits of information to Michele Bachmann’s office and Amy Kramer (through the Tea Party Express) as they were the faces of the DC rally this weekend.

As this relates to Mike’s America’s posted article. . .yes, we need to do everything we can to take back our country and repeal this monstrousity of a healthcare bill. – BUT- We must be very smart about how we proceed. The Left, I believe, will do everything they can to discredit anyone who dares to speak up ESPECIALLY HARDWORKING, EVERYDAY CITIZENS. Additionally, fellow citizens could be set up for worse scenarios than what I witnessed — so fellow citizens — be smart, be alert at any moment while participating in ANY political activity. . .even in downtown RALEIGH, NC (Another story for another day)

    PART TWO
This weekend, I attended the DC Rally with around 35,000-50,000 ‘friends.’ I did so because I do not like the agenda being pushed on the American people and while I believe our healthcare system should be improved, I think Obamacare is not the right vehicle. It is not only a powergrab, but also, an affront to our very foundation as a representative republic. Isn’t there something wrong with a bill that cannot be presented in a forthright manner to the CBO for scoring — multiple times? I wanted to lend my voice to the protest as well as take an opportunity to make some “House-Calls.”

    PART THREE
Following, Jon Voight’s speech, I meandered back over to the Congressional office buildings to politely offer my opinion. Both the Rayburn and Cannon Building had long-lines and knowing that you can go in-between buildings once through security, I entered the Longworth building and proceeded to the elevators. While waiting, I looked to my left and saw my Congressman, David Price-NC 4th, and walked over to see if he would give me 30 seconds. To his credit, he accepted my offer for a handshake but said he was in a hurry to get back over the the Capitol Building after I identified myself as a constituent. This adamant Liberal respectfully listened to my 15 second plea for votong no on the Senate Bill and then excused himself.

After Congressman Price stepped away, I saw 15-20 reporters/cameramen standing around the corner in front of the House Ways and Means Committee meeting room. After inquiring, one of the reporters told me that the committee was about to emerge. I decided to grab a spot near the corner, stay out of the way, and observe whatever events may take place —7 to 8 others did the same. A couple of people started chanting ‘Kill the Bill,’ ‘Vote No.’ etc. We joined in but within seconds, a security guard came over and said we all had to leave because we were too noisy. He actually started to throw out a gentleman (of the 7-8 of us) but the gentleman said we’ll keep it down (turns out the man almost thrown out was the mayor of his hometown) The security guard said he and others would be watching us and if we got out of hand we were out!!

Over the course of the next 30-45 minutes, Congressmen filed out, one at a time. . .some recognizable, some not — but as they came out, the press was all over them and in their face until they got in the elevator or turned to go outside the building. Henry Waxman drew a crowd from people waiting at the elevators and there was a lot of booing (I did not consider this desired behavior but it stopped when the elevator doors shut. The loudest. mpst demonstrable person shut up once Waxman was no longer in view in I saw him more toward the front exit and disappeared. I was wondering– if this was a contrived scenario as Waxman could have gone the opposite direction and caught elevators as well) Next, Congressman Cummings, Congressman Johnson, and others emerged but only one at a time — each time, the press were all over them, the same 7 to 8 of us remained against the walls and chanted quietly as before — so the security guards watching us would not throw us out. It should also be noted that several members choose to go the other way and did not enter the hallway leading to the front lobby area — we could tell by the direction the press mob headed!!!

My camera battery died and my spare wasn’t working so I put the camera away. A few minutes later, out walks Barney Frank! He was mobbed by the press even more than the others — and stood in the corner with them longer. We started chanting and when Frank was 3 feet from me, with a reporter in between — he looked directly at me and uttered FU (I laughed) . . .he walked VERY slowly toward the elevators/exit with all the press cameras and reporters draped all over him. I looked towards the lobby and saw a non-descript white ‘guy’ (not among the 7-8 with whom I had conversed with for 30-45 minutes — while waiting for Congressman to emerge) — walk over near the Members Only elevator and shouted the F** word at Frank. There was a deafening groan (Oh, no!) in the whole area and several of us started admonishing the guy “That’s not why were here,” “Why did you say that?,” “That’s unacceptable, guy,” and I reached down for my camera bag to see if I could get one more shot out of my dead battery — of the guy — that JUST HAPPENED to suddenly appear and utter the F**word right when it could all be heard and seen by others in the greater lobby area. Within a split second, I attempted to take a shot and the guy was gone!!!! He had been right next to the reporters — they could have knocked him over.

    PART FOUR
After that, the press disappeared out of the building, I proceeded to stop by a couple of offices in the building for about 30 minutes. I intended to go directly back to my hotel room to recharge my camera batteries for the evening activities. However, while exiting the building, I saw hundreds of peaceful protestors lined up along the way from the Capitol Building to the Cannon Building, across the street and in front of the Longworth Building. I saw Congressman Duncan Hunter and others start walking (singly) through the crowds, now chanting Kill the Bill, Vote No etc. I did see/hear the crowd booing some Democrat Congressman but did not recognize them. Duncan Hunter walked over to the building where I was standing and talked to the crowd relaying how the days’ events were unfolding. He offered that the CONGRESSMAN WHO WERE GOING TO VOTE NO ON THE SENATE HC BILL WERE WALKING THROUGH THE CROWD — THE OTHERS — CONGRESSMEN STILL OVER THERE AND VOTING YES WOULD BE WALKING TO THEIR OFFICES THROUGH THE TUNNELS.

I was chatting with a citizen who was watching her husband and children standing over at the Rayburn Building while I was digging into my camera bag to see if I had a 3rd battery in some degree of charge. . .when I looked up there were Congressman Lewis and others walk through the crowd. I heard someone behind me remark, “I thought Congressman Hunter said the rest of the no vote Congressmen were not walkng through the crowds.”

As they walked, they were actually mock waving back to the crowd…. I thought it was odd. They received the same chants urging them to vote no and the boos that other earlier Yes voters had received. But their progress was not impeeded and I did not see tham stop and talk to protesters as later reported. All of a sudden, a uniformed policeman went running by with a rifle and proceeded to the front of the Rayburn Building. I saw the Congressmen walk inside and thought — better safe than sorry. BUT still thinking about Duncan Hunter’s words about the YES voters wanting to avoid the crowds. A few minutes later, my temporary companion went down to greet her husband and children who had walked back over to the Longworth steps. (They came back over to meet Mike Pence who now was shaking hands and talking to us.) I asked the Husband what had happened and he said the guard had just cleared the doorway — nothing had happened that he could see or hear. I proceeded to my hotel room and turned on FOX News to hear of any pending HealthCare Legislation developments.

To my shock I heard that Barney Frank told the press that he “. . . was called a “f*****,” “as protestors shouted at him with deliberately lisp-y screams. Frank, approached in the halls after the president’s speech, shrugged off the incident.” WTF?????????????????? I was there — that is not what happened.

(The author of this HuffPo article looks very similar to one of the 15-20 press people outside the House Ways and Means Committee room mobbing the Congressmen.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/20/tea-party-protests-nier-f_n_507116.html)

THAT was ME and those seven or so thers standing there as Frank was approaching the halls. . . and. . .the appearing/disappearing man who hollered a one word slur — the only other words were those of us admonishing the deplorable utterance. Congressman Frank lied!

    PART FIVE
Later that evening, I ran into the famiily, described earlier, and relayed the FOX NEWS report and asked what had happened. I was told they saw none of this but did hear one describe a non-descript white guy holler the N word. but witnessed No spitting, no crowd conversations. I asked others — all evening and Sunday if they saw anything — as we may have casually chatted — but nothing! Was this the same non-descript white-guy who had been at the Longworth Building? Was he perhaps in cahoots with the contrived Waxman elevator scenario??

So, my friends, were these staged? Why didn’t all those reporters swarming Barney Frank report our admonishments to the use of the despicable word? Why didn’t they take a picture of the non-descript white-guy with all their cameras?? Find out who he was? The same with the other incident. Those reporters saw us standing there the whole time and knew we were well behaved. The security guard was monitoring us as well!!

I have a gut feeling, this was done to discredit anyone who speaks up in opposition to the Liberal effort. . . All of a sudden, it is no longer a right or patriotic to speak up. Why didn’t observers near the Rayburn Building hear/see anything? Why didn’t the reporters, on the corner report, on this as to what they saw??? OR HAVE FILM TO PROVE THE ALLEGATIONS!! THEY WERE RIGHT THERE FOR BOTH SCENARIOS — did they know of this possible staging in advance?

I am not afraid to speak up — but EVERYONE please know, these possible stagings could get progressively worse — similar to recent staged incidents in Georgia and Colorado. Please be alert, have recording devices and spare charged batteries. By the way, as I relayed, I did find a 3rd battery while sitting on the Longworth Building steps and have several photos of Congressmen Clyburn, Cleaver, and Lewis proceeding to the Rayburn Building — why is it the reporters, cameramen on the corner, have produced none if the scenario was so radical???? If true, I consider it horrible for our 2010 society — but after I witnessed what happened around Frank — credibility has been lost.

Sorry, for so long a post but please everyone, plan ahead, be aware — our challenges will increase — and if I can get slandered/libeled just like that, things could get much worse for anyone else. Unfortunately, it seems the majority of the media — is a cheerleader for the Liberals and will do nothing to rectify the record. The worst part of all was listening to Geraldo Rivera (listened by mistake) scold us Tea Partiers for our behavior towards Frank and the others. Additionally, the Fox and Friends Sunday crew also owes us an apology!

PS — WHERE IN THE HECK WAS THE PRESS when groups of “young adults” other politically minded representatives, were hurling every imaginable profanity at rally goers — even those with young children??

  40. @skat: An angry McCain is a sight to behold. I’ve been on the receiving end, I should know.

Yes, I do think he takes this very personally. Especially since he bent over backwards to restrain us all during the campaign and was very reluctant to call out Obama on his socialist plans.

I know McCain wanted to take the high road in that campaign but that didn’t stop Obama from trashing him and it must sting McCain daily.

Never trust a liberal to behave with honor and principle.

    @American Voter:

Sorry, for so long a post but please everyone, plan ahead, be aware

No need to be sorry, thank you for your dedication and getting out and walking the walk! I appreciate every word you just wrote!

Eyes on the ground and telling what you saw gives us a heads up to the deceit that has been allowed by the press. Wish you could tell your story to the pip squeak Shepherd Smith or Geraldo, both seem to relish the other version without giving a thought to the fact that Jackson Jr. also filmed “the walk” ….why aren’t they demanding to see his clips?

McCain did try to behave honorably, in the face of such disgusting attacks about his looks (stiff shoulders) and so on. He’s pretty dogged. He has the long life behind him to know that, as he said, he might choose to lose a battle if it would help with the war. This is another reason NOT to throw him out and replace him with a junior senator who may have a big mouth but no real clout.

Geraldo and Smith? — seems they are lobbying for spots on other networks. Why in the h— would you air such incendiary remarks without another point of view?

The only reason I brought all of this forward, is to make others aware and organize future events a little smarter. . .by educating rally goers to be aware of possible set ups, monitoring each other, how to react in inflammatory situations, have volunteers roaming an event, have people on the periphery of an event watching out for the peaceful rally goers. . . in other words – guarding the flank.

There is a lot at stake for all political persuasions and as we draw near to the elections, the passions and games will very likely ratchet up. . .we must continue to protest peacefully — but alot smarter. We were sitting ducks for anything when “The Walk” occurred. . .regardless if 99.9% of the folks were standing there blissfully thinking they were there just to peacefully protest. All it takes is one well orchestrated incident and the Left is still smarting over the ACORN stings.

By the way, a small group of us drove home yesterday am via Mount Vernon detour. We stopped to pray there, for our country.

(I was very tired when I organized my thoughts yesterday and mistakenly put Rayburn instead of Cannon in two places and caught it too late to edit)

To be honest, I think McCain overdid the being honorable thing. I wish he had come out more strongly against Obama’s Marxism. It seemed like he wanted to go soft on him, which was clearly inappropriate. What we know now by experience we needed to know then by information so we could avoid this experience (or suffer it to our own blame for not listening.)

I thought a great deal of McCain from his convention speech. That was really my introduction to him, as well as to Palin. Needless to say, I was thrilled with Palin (still am). But I didn’t see the same McCain on the campaign trail as I did in the convention speech. It was like he ran to loose. Almost like honor (?) was more important than victory. I could see that, if the only way to victory was to be dishonorable, like O with one lie after the other, etc, etc. But McCain I think should have gone after O’s Marxism and interpreted his intentions for us. Apparently a lot of people didn’t know how to translate “fundamentally transform America.” McCain should have understood that and told us what it meant. He had plenty of ammo that he didn’t use, or didn’t use effectively. He could have gone after O’s dirt (no shortage of supply right there in the race!) like it was a serious threat, which it was/is, instead of trying to be so nice and pleasant about it. Palin did a better job of exposing Obama and energizing the base. She told it like it was yet she was never dishonorable.

We see this same thing from Bachmann and Ryan now. They tell it like it is but they are not at all dishonorable or soft.

Mike’s America- you said you have been on the receiving end of an angry McCain. I wish the same could have been said of Obama. I don’t recall seeing McCain ever get fired up about Obama’s intentions at all. To that degree he and Palin were not in solidarity. If they had been (which would have required McCain to do what she was doing, only more), I think we would have a different administration than the one we have today.

One can actually FIGHT honorably. I can’t say I saw McCain fight Obama, really. Palin did, and did it honorably. But not McCain.

Having said that, I agree that McCain is better than any Arizona Dem. I would rather have him than that alternative. But if there is a good shot at someone more 1) conservative 2) willing to do what needs to be done right now, I say go for it!

  47. @American Voter: Thanks for that in person report.

So Barney Frank told you to “FU”? Yet that’s not reported?

Obviously these Dems, whether they set up the scene or not were trying to provoke a reaction and then have their allies in the press use it to discredit the protesters.

@JanH: McCain’s handlers couldn’t decide what kind of campaign to run and McCain didn’t seem to know any better either. At the time I had my conversation with him in November 2007 Obama wasn’t the issue or I might have asked him whether he was prepared to run hard and expose the little lying weasel for what he is: A RADICAL SOCIALIST.

McCain seemed to think there would be a backlash against him if he took on Obama hard during the campaign. So, he let Obama skate free while Obama did everything he could to paint McCain in a negative light.

McCain has learned his lesson but it’s too late now to save the country from Obama so we are stuck for three more years.

I look forward to the next batch of potential GOP candidates visiting South Carolina and I intend to ask them when they visit if they intend to take on Obama with no holds barred. If they show signs of being squeamish about doing so, I will not support them in the primary. I also won’t support any GOP candidate who sticks with the federal funding of presidential campaigns. That was another McCain mistake and it didn’t win him any votes for standing on principle.

Yep. This is just the thing that the entire GOP needs to ditch. Of course there will be a backlash! They need to expect it and disregard it. Or better, be encouraged by it. The more on task they are, the more backlash there will be, because the more of a danger to the Socialists they are posing.

“Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!”

The media will never appreciate them but the people will.

I’m glad to hear McCain has realized his error. I do hope the rest of the GOP does too.

@B-Rob the Liar, Waster of Time, Abuser of Oxygen

You make the same tired old arguments that socialists have been making for the past 160 years

Still waiting on an explanation on how you cons are going to sell reinstating pre-existing conditions, reinstating the Medicare drug bill donut hole, eliminating the new rule that lets 25 and 26 year olds stay on their parents health insurance, undoing the tax credits for small businesses and finding cash to fill the budget hole that is created by repealing the new taxes. Once you folks address these practical problems with your non-sensical “repeal” plan, then I will take it seriously.

Frederic Bastiat addressed this issue in relation to socialism in his 1850 classic The Law:

Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.

We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.

Similarly, just because we disapprove of the government attempting to forbid imprudent or self-destructive behavior, this does not mean that we approve of that behavior.

One would think that the neo-com socialists would have come up with new talking points after 160 years.

Now quit wasting everyone’s time and go play on the freeway.

Mike’s America…In my opinion McCain vs Hayworth is exactly what McCain dearly needs to get his Duties, Priorities and Focus straight. McCain spent too much time cozying up to the Enemy over his Senate days. He can’t lead me from his current posture of being a very comfortable incumbent.

I want to see some fighting spirit in him and not the affable incumbent friend of the Enemy and bi-partisan buddy. This is about Partisanship full on. It is about taking the Country back and that will require a fighter to do it. If it isn’t in him, let Hayworth take up the sword.

There is way too much at risk at this time for half hearted efforts. I have met Hayworth and he is fully capable of putting up a fight if allowed to take a leadership role.

  53. @Old Trooper 2: McCain has done a great job of late in fighting back against Obamaism without apology. Had we seen today’s McCain as candidate McCain in 2008 he might have won and we might all have been spared this ordeal.

As I said before, I’m all in favor of Hayworth’s strong challenge against McCain. It’s the best way to keep these guys grounded.

I only wish we had been able to give Lindsey Graham the same treatment here in SC in 2008.
