    Hillary is scared too! I hope Palin makes several appearances each week as Obama falls down the “Rabbit Hole”!

    Sarah did great and short interview session with questions from T-Party Members she also did great. She was relaxed, interesting, which is hard for politicians to be, and knowledgeable.

    I watched it live on CSPAN and it was a truly masterful speech. Even the couple of times in the middle when her voice got low as if she was trying to find her place only served to grab the audience’s attention. Masterful, and not a single mistake.

    Did I say ‘masterful’?

    I don’t have to hear anymore from Sarah, I don’t need to know anymore. She is a great woman and to see that family, completely natural and loving, with Trig being held by any one of them, goes right to my heart, and yet this woman has the courage to go after the bullies. Ronald Reagan is smiling.

    I have been a steady reader and sometime poster and donator of Noquarterusa. It was great to be there in ’07 and in ’08 up until the Democratic convention. Although I never liked either one of the Clintons, and especially her, I had been brought into her camp and began pulling for her as the Ogre began to take shape at the beginning of ’08. I was furious when she gave us that stupid story about the sniper fire. I hollered at the flat screen, “What the hell did you do that for??” Yes, I was hoping she would cut off all possibility that the Devil would get into the WH. I had little hope for McCain, and when she began stumping for Dr. Mostevil, I saw her as an enemy of the country and then to watch her vote for that POS at the convention was too much. Her and the D party are truly enemies of the Constitution and our country. At Noquarterusa it is sad to read so many stupid posts from women who have set her up as their idol in spite of what she did and is doing with the ‘bummer. They have placed that woman and/or their party before the country. My God, how stupid is that. I keep asking “How can anyone be a Democrat these days, not that you have to be a Republican, but being an Independent is a whole lot better and cleaner.” Still haven’t rec’d a single response with any logic that serves the nation. The Democrats are the enemy of the country and their next leader will be HRC and there are enough stupid people and idolators to advance her. God help us.

    Yes, atti. I know what you mean. I started out as a Hillary supporter long before she ran for office. I’ve heard from New Yorkers that she was an effective Senator for them and yes, I would have preferred her to the disaster we have now. But that said, I became an Independent after the joke of the Dim primary and I for one will NEVER vote for a Dim again. Sorry I stayed so long for the fall. I love Sarah and her message. I will vote straight Republican because we have to hogtie these traitors. No politician is going to live up to the standards of our forefathers but The Tea Partiers may scare the bejeebers out of the Republicans…and we may have some new candidates to replace some of the neanderthals. It’s a chance for sure but Sarah is right…it’s time to take back the Republican party and not waste our energy and resources trying to create a 3rd party at this time. There’s already a structure set with an established party and we don’t want to throw the election back to the Socialists by default. Can you imagine what they would do with another term? Of course, we will change the majorities in November but this crowd is so hidden, you don’t know what they might pull off behind the closed doors. I will not criticize her for loyalty to McCain. If not for him, she would still be Gov of AK. I, too, feel frustrated with so many at NQ for continuing to hope for a Clinton run. I still post there but for Sarah (where there’s plenty of support as well).

    The myth that most Tea Party members are Independents who dropped out of the Republican party is just that…a myth. There are plenty of former Democrats who became Independents with this last election and won’t go back to the Dim party. Of course, we’re branded as racist, but we consider ourselves Patriots first…hey, in my family we we’ve always been proud that our first ancestor was with G. Washington and we’re not about to stand still while the constitution is dissembled. It’s a whole new world now!

    Mike, I noticed that, too, no teleprompter. She used her notes during the speech, but the questions at the end were strictly not being read from notes, just from her heart!

    @atti: Glad to give you my opinion! That’s what I’m really good at! But you know, another thing that came crashing down during the Dim primary and later in the GE, was the idea that Democrats support women. There was such rampant misogyny from the Democrats…even the women seemed to have a special hatred for other women. I was stunned watching it. Early on, I used to go on Huff&Puff (my first attempt at posting) to issue a plea for moderation and to dial back the hateful rhetoric…finally was blocked from posting. You can imagine how I laughed when Arianna spoke in Monterey last year on…wait for it…”Ethics in Communication”! Hahahahahahaha. I still get a kick out of that one. She and that weasel on DK are the filthiest I’ve ever seen…and let’s not leave out The Greatest Woman Hater of Them All, Bill Maher.

    One surprise for me has been the civility I’ve experienced from conservative men I have encountered. I worked at the McCain/Palin headquarters in Monterey last year…you can imagine how nice that was after being screamed at, condescended to, and called a racist when I left the Dim party by some of my oldest 60′s friends…all of whom knew better. We still don’t speak. Oh, well.

    Out of that though NOW has pretty much been discredited and kicked to the curb. They always were blind to the needs of women outside the East Coast elite anyway…so no real loss. I was never a member. “The New Agenda” hopes to fill that void promising to support women running for office regardless of party affiliation. We’ll see. It’s too new to know if they can support pro-life as well as pro-choice…which seems to be the defining issue for most women’s rights “groups”. Personally, I don’t want the government/law involved in any way in a woman’s decision. Our job is to educate and support so that abortion becomes obsolete. It’s a dreadful thing but I don’t want to see it as a polarizing issue during the next campaign. They are already practicing on Sarah and Trig on that one…even though she has never used the law to support her personal choices. We should NOT allow them the power to divert our attention engaging in dialogue on social issues. The country is being destroyed forheavensake. OK, I said I’m good at having an opinion!

    Stepping back from the hype that surrounds Sarah Palin and seeing the transition that is taking place by her and her handlers over the last year, one is left with the impression that she being taken into the main level of politics and being prepared to take it over.

  15. Apparently, Gov. Palin had a few key point written in the palm of her hand as a reminder and the Palin haters are going nuts.

    Would you rather have a candidate who relies of a crib sheet of four key points or one who can’t say a word without the entire speech being displayed on his teleprompter?

    Contrast this performance with Sarah’s:

    As of today’s announcement, He will NOW meet with Dems and Rep leaders on HC and invite C-Span to cover?

    What I was thinking as I watched that speech was that the Tea Party movement is being skillfully co-opted by the GOP. At what point does “Independent” become nothing more than slick republican relabeling?

    I don’t want someone to run down a list of “zingers”. I want to hear clear and specific policy alternatives. Otherwise we’ll get sold a bill of goods. Again.

    @Willy: “At what point does “Independent” become nothing more than slick republican relabeling?”

    Maybe when a lot of those Independents are former Dems who were always fiscal conservatives. Could it be the other way around? Perhaps the GOP is being co-oped by the Tea Party movement. Sarah wants them to return to their roots and I do too. And if people persist in putting abortion, gays, and all the other social arguments out in front of saving the damned country, well…keep it up you won’t have a USA. Fight those battles behind the scenes people and get the economy and jobs back on track. #1. Health care and illegal immigration fall into the same category of destroying the economy. Get your priorities straight. I love my country too much to let these Bozos take it down.

    You guys have an opinion? Vote in the poll:

    Mike, I voted–definitely more bothered by the obsessive use of the teleprompter by the leader of the free world. But, it’s telling that the ‘bothered by Obama’ votes on NPR, while Sarah’s are still a bit higher percentage wise, is getting that large a percentage of NPR folks aggravated with him on this weakness on his part.

    I saw Sarah looking at her palm Saturday night, and wondered if that is what she was doing, and I looked at the video again on NPR. But, my take on it is, one, she wants to make sure she covers the areas that are most important to communicate and not leave anything out, and, two, and MOST importantly to me, is that what Sarah did in looking occasionally at her “notes” is a FAR CRY from Obama’s dependence on a teleprompter!! I.e., he can’t speak without it, and Sarah obviously can. She was still speaking from her own knowledge of the issues she was asked about, not scripted and from the heart. I really felt like we were all just sitting down with her in our living room, having a fireside chat, so to speak.

    This NPR poll really is like comparing cherries to pumpkins, imho.

    @rich wheeler:
    rich, I had no intention of comparing Gov. Palin to FDR (which I guess is what you are suggesting) but was simply borrowing the phrase “fireside chat” to illustrate the literal effect her sit-down Q & A time had on me as feeling like a comfortable, relaxing time spent in one’s living room next to the fire, listening to a true Patriot.

    FYI, even though the media coined the phrase, ‘fireside chat’ back in 1933 when FDR began to address the nation via radio, radio addresses were given by President Bush as well as every President since FDR, I believe.

    Your comparison to Goldwater? Unless you’ve heard something I haven’t yet, Gov. Palin is not currently running for President in any official campaign, so not the best analogy there. Although I’m sure Sarah Palin would be honored to be compared to “Mr. Conservative” on policies he worked on as a Senator throughout his career. I have friends who worked for Goldwater in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and they had nothing but good things to say about the man.

  30. Looks like the libs at NPR finally got out of bed and started to vote in that Poll.

    If you guys haven’t had a chance to weigh in, please do so.

    @rich wheeler: The only choice I’ve made for 2012 is:

    OBAMA HAS TO GO!!!

    We don’t even know who will run on the GOP side and I certainly have not made up my mind. Whether Palin runs or not, it’s always interesting to see what she has to say. I don’t know if you understand how deep the personal connection she has with the American people is. She is one of us and we are her.

    And when the libs try and run her down, they are really running down the majority of the American people. Not exactly a smart thing to do. But then, few of us ever thought Obama and the Dems were the geniuses they told everybody they were.

    @SoCal Chris:

    SoCal Chris and Mike, just have to share today’s David Broder column with you and other FA members who are fond of Sarah Palin, enjoy!

    Sarah Palin displays her pitch-perfect populism

    By David S. Broder
    Thursday, February 11, 2010

    The snows that obliterated Washington in the past week interfered with many scheduled meetings, but they did not prevent the delivery of one important political message: Take Sarah Palin seriously.

    Her lengthy Saturday night keynote address to the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville and her debut on the Sunday morning talk show circuit with Fox News’ Chris Wallace showed off a public figure at the top of her game — a politician who knows who she is and how to sell herself, even with notes on her palm.

    This was not the first time that Palin has impressed me. I gave her high marks for her vice presidential acceptance speech in St. Paul. But then, and always throughout that campaign, she was laboring to do more than establish her own place. She was selling a ticket headed by John McCain against formidable Democratic opposition and burdened by the legacy of the Bush administration.

    Blessed with an enthusiastic audience of conservative activists, Palin used the Tea Party gathering and coverage on the cable networks to display the full repertoire she possesses, touching on national security, economics, fiscal and social policy, and every other area where she could draw a contrast with Barack Obama and point up what Republicans see as vulnerabilities in Washington.

    Her invocation of “conservative principles and common-sense solutions” was perfectly conventional. What stood out in the eyes of TV-watching pols of both parties was the skill with which she drew a self-portrait that fit not just the wishes of the immediate audience but the mood of a significant slice of the broader electorate.

    Freed of the responsibilities she carried as governor of Alaska, devoid of any official title but armed with regular gigs on Fox News Channel and more speaking invitations than she can fulfill, Palin is perhaps the most visible Republican in the land.

    More important, she has locked herself firmly in the populist embrace that every skillful outsider candidate from George Wallace to Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton has utilized when running against “the political establishment.”

    It doesn’t always win. There are more John Edwardses and Mike Huckabees than I can count. But it wins more often than you’d guess and for a greater variety of people, especially when things are not going well for the country.

    Palin’s final answer to Wallace showed how perfectly she has come to inhabit that part. When he asked her what role she wants to play in the country’s future, she said:

    “First and foremost, I want to be a good mom, and I want to raise happy, healthy, independent children. And I want them to be good citizens of this great country.

    “And then I do want to be a voice for some common-sense solutions. I’m never going to pretend like I know more than the next person. I’m not going to pretend to be an elitist. In fact, I’m going to fight the elitist, because for too often and for too long now, I think the elitists have tried to make people like me and people in the heartland of America feel like we just don’t get it, and big government’s just going to have to take care of us.

    “I want to speak up for the American people and say: No, we really do have some good common-sense solutions. I can be a messenger for that. Don’t have to have a title to do it.”

    This is a pitch-perfect recital of the populist message that has worked in campaigns past. There are times when the American people are looking for something more: for an Eisenhower, who liberated Europe; an FDR or a Kennedy or a Bush, all unashamed aristocrats; or an Obama, with eloquence and brains.

    But in the present mood of the country, Palin is by all odds a threat to the more uptight Republican aspirants such as Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — and potentially, to Obama as well.

    Palin did not wear well in the last campaign, especially in the suburbs where populism has a limited appeal. But when Wallace asked her about resigning the governorship with 17 months left in her term and whether she let her opponents drive her from office, she said, “Hell, no.”

    Those who want to stop her will need more ammunition than deriding her habit of writing on her hand. The lady is good.

    Great article — the more the Left rants and raves about her, the more it seems they view her as a political threat.

    @Missy:
    Lol, Missy, about DC libs tearing their hair out–good visual picture in my mind of that now!

    Excellent article, and even though I’m biased, I thought it was written very objectively and hit the nail on the head on the heart and mind of Sarah Palin. I was so glad Chris Wallace asked her that question about resigning and if she’s running from her enemies! Perfect set up for her to give not only an unabashed and unequivocal “No” to that question, but added the undeniable reality of just how much her enemies haven’t gotten her to high-tail it out of the lime-light in saying, ["I'm sitting here talking to Chris Wallace today. I think some of them are going, "Dang, we thought she'd sit down and shut up after we tried to do to her what we tried."] That’s ‘Sarah Baracuda’ in action!

    Something funny I thought of when re-reading that part of the transcript was a scene in ‘Silverado’ (another movie analogy, I know, but that’s what comes to mind!) It’s the scene where Emmett (Scott Glenn) is consoling his nephew, Augie because Augie thinks his uncle Jake (Kevin Costner) has died falling off of his horse, which is completely impossible and Emmett knows it. Sarah would be Jake in this analogy. She’d no more run from her enemies than Jake could ‘fall off of his horse’! Here’s the lines from the scene:

    Emmett: Augie, where’s Jake?
    Augie Hollis: He’s dead.
    Emmett: [shocked] What?
    Augie Hollis: He was trying to get away. He fell off his horse… off a cliff.
    Emmett: Jake…
    [disbelieving]
    Emmett: FELL off his horse?
    [Augie nods, then bursts into tears. Emmett consoles Augie with a hug, while suppressing a grin]

    @SoCal Chris:

    Are you familiar with the latest? Some cable news shows are claiming that Chris Wallace rolled his eyes after he showed the last clip of the interview he did with Sarah. He was on earlier today to dispute it on Megyn Kelly’s show.

    Wallace denied it, made a negative remark about Joe Scarborough and highly complimented Sarah Palin. He was very pleased with the way she conducted herself during the interview, said he asked tough questions and she didn’t skip a beat and passed it off as PDS.

    Been a good day for Sarah!

    @Missy:

    I did see a comment the next day about a “look” Wallace had after the tape was done and he was back to his regular program, and I took it as a definite positive thing. Not sure if it’s the same look the cable news shows are referring to, but I didn’t see anything negative. What I saw was Chris Wallace surmising to himself kind of the same sentiment of David Broder’s column about Sarah. Basically, like he’s saying, “Wow”.

    By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SARAH!! :)

    That’s exactly what I thought too, it was more of a twinkle.

    No wonder all this good stuff is happening today, gifts for Sarah! Wonder if Broder knew of it when he published his column, hah!
