Obama’s “nook u’lar” moment….

This would be downright hilarious, were it not this putz is the Commander in Chief and that highly touted Harvard grad brain trust.

But geeez….. pronouncing “Naval corpsman” … “corpse man”? Not once, but twice??

H/T to Brian at Freedom’s Lighthouse

Embarrassing… makes you long for the more simple and common verbal faux pas, like Bush, Carter and Eisenhower’s more endearing, tongue rolling versions of “nuclear”.

BTW.. while we’re clearing up a few misconceptions about the brillance of the one hanging out in the Oval Office, TOTUS has cleared up that mystery of the mayoral bow that Mike’s A reported on a few days ago. He’s merely trying to do his part in balancing the budget, and hunting for revenue…

It’s not like Big Guy isn’t aware of the fiscal mess we are in. People have been noticing how he has been bowing when he meets even U.S. officials, like mayors or governors. But he’s not bowing. That’s just the way he walks so that he gets first dibs on dropped change.

  3. So impressive. Not real sure why everyone continues to be impressed by him. A co-worker of mine was raving about his State of the Union address the other day because of his talk of working with Republicans and working on the budget deficit. Come on man, actions speak louder than words. He campaigned on working with Republicans too, but he has completely shut them out for a year. Then he releases a budget with a 1.6 TRILLION deficit right after. I’m not impressed.

  8. Now, now.

I cannot believe that everyone here is missing the obvious.

In the minds of many, if not most, on the left members of the US military are murderers. They’re rapists. They’re cold blooded killers. They terrorize….

They supposedly prey on innocent people in a manner reminiscent of Genghis Khan….

So if you weave together their logic and their words, including the words of our Precedent, you would have to conclude that the person that Obie is referring to here is indeed a “corpse man” and the female members of the military are “corpse women” cuz they love to kill people and such thus specializing in corpses.

Glad I could clear all that up for you.

As one who studied French in college, I was wondering about Obie’s pronunciation of the United States as “Intanzini” in Creole. According to the online Haitian Creole Dictionary — http://www.kreyol.com/dictionary/Uu.html — United States is “Zetazini”. “Zetazini” makes more sense when you consider that the French for United States is “Etats-Unis” (pronounced “Ehtahzuni”), and Creole is a form of French. I guess proper pronunciation of any language is just not considered important to The Won.

No Bees, don’t blame the cabernet, its just that you often need a little extra explanation because of the intricate nature of the English Language that most of us ‘natives’ take for granted. Corpse and Corps are two words that are easily confused, of course highly celebrated graduates of Ivy League colleges used to be held to a higher standard, especially those who were editors of the Harvard Law Review.

There are many former Marines, who are a little touchy about this situation because of the self-less and heroic attitude of the Naval Corpsman and his devotion to duty that has earned a place of deep respect and reverence in the hearts of millions of Teuffel Hunden. For a President to make this grievous error is a slap in the face of those Corpsmen who served and to many who gave the last measure of devotion to save those who had fallen.

No Bees, it is not you, you we hold in high regard, your questions show an inquisitive nature and a love of Freedom; you are an example of a Patriot who yearns to learn more. You are to be commended. It is I who has a sadistic streak of sometimes ill-humor.

While you ask in humility and stand your ground as to principal- our president, like Leftist Leaders of history, has no principals nor humility. A man of your stature would stand in front of the American people, admit your mistake and apologize to the many Corpsmen living and dead for that error of speech for which there is no excuse.

Of course we all know, there will be a blizzard in Hell before this self-absorbed narcissist apologizes to a bunch of lowly enlisted Corpsmen.

Bees, the beans were great, I wish I could have shared them with you.

Now let me send a bean recipe. Cut 3 or 4 strips of bacon in 2 inch pieces, put in a skillet with a low heat. Grind coarse black pepper over the pieces. Cut a Jalapeno lengthwise so that it is in quadrants, cut to within a quarter inch of the stem for handling. Cut into small pieces, by starting at the tip, use about 1/2 of the pepper. Cut 1/2 of an onion into coarse pieces. Add the pepper and and onion to the bacon, use a glass lid for the bacon to keep it from shriveling. Cook it until it is half way cooked and take the bacon, peppers and onion out of th skillet and place on paper towels.

In the mean time, cook 3/4 cup of black beans until they are 3/4 done and add the bacon, onion, and peppers. Add salt, pepper and Pico de Gallo to taste, cook until the beans are beginning to break down and are soft, using a low heat. Sprinkle grated Colby over the beans just before they are done and let cool a little before eating.

I am getting hungry, I think I will make something to eat

I think they are physically unable to say “nu-clee-ar”. Jimmy Carter couldn’t say it and he was a “nu-que-lure” engineer in the USN. Must be something in the water. Has nothing to do with intelligence. Now that “corpse man” thing is beyond stupid.

Gaffes or not, SCOTUS did not appoint him President. They simply ruled (7 to2, BTW) that, if the Democrats wanted to continue recounts in Florida, they would have to count all the ballots in all the counties, using the same method in all of them. At this, the Democrats called off additional recounts. Then, in the weeks after the inauguration, reporters for CNN and the New York Times went to Florida and counted all the ballots, statewide, and announced, very quietly, that Bush had, indeed, carried Florida. Remember, at no time in all the recounts was Gore ever ahead. The only time he was “ahead” was in the exit polls, earlier on election day, which prompted NBC to proclaim him the winner before the voting had finished in Western Florida. In spite of that, Bush did actually carry the Sunshine State.

When I was a Democrat, I was election judge in my precinct, and learned a great deal about the mechanics of elections. The only way to get large numbers of dimpled chads is to try to stack up a lot of punch cards and quickly punch them all at once. This blatant attempt at election fraud shocked me and my wife out of the Democrat Party, and, eventually, into the Republican fold.

Blame it on the teleprompter. All the gaffs as he reads the TOTUS tells me he doesn’t rehearse the speeches ahead of time or the one or ones listening would have caught them.

He obviously goes before the TOTUS and reads the text for the first time. This explains why, when the TOTUS quits working, he has nothing to say. He doesn’t know what comes next because he hasn’t read it.

Keep in mind, Obama didn’t even know how to salute when he became president. This tells me he knows NOTHING about the military.

I am guess Obama has seen few or no war movies. He must hate the military so much he doesn’t watch them. How many times do you hear someone holler “Corpsman” in battle scenes? If he has watch war movies, I wonder which side he was rooting for.

Have you all noticed how Obama’s tone never changes? He keeps talking like he has a computer voice. I can understand this if he hasn’t rehearsed his speech. He doesn’t know ahead of time if he should put strong emphasis on what he is about to READ.

Read an essay a while back about W struggling with words, but it was about that he might choose the right words rightly and wisely.

W grew up in West Texas (with Northeastern/Yankee parents) and, not that I would ever criticize a fellow Texan for a gaffe, as our very own Tenglish (Texas-English) is gaffe ridden.

What, in your language may SOUND like a gaffe to you, may not sound like a gaffe to a fellow Texan (we/I may know exactly what he means). And its not really a gaffe sometimes ya know. My South Texas ear hears something completely different than a West Texas (Midland ear). Your Yankee ear hears something completely different than mine.

W was much better than O at conveying true words. W chose his words wisely and thoughtfully, whereas O reads from TOTUS and script. If W had read from TOTUS and/or script–he would have been torn apart by the MSM.

@rockyass and @Lynn Dee: , apparently both of you are unaware that the particular enunciation of “nuclear” by Bush was also shared by Eisenhower and your beloved Carter.

At least, however, both of those commanders in chief… as well as the President you so love to malign… knew how to pronounce the rank of their service men.

    doh!

I said this on another thread, and it bears repeating here. Obama’s Harvard status brilliance is manufactured by the O’faithful and his dutiful media puppets. TOTUS is now considering that, as a back up, he and his twin should start taking all these “hard” words, (like corpsman) and print them out phonetically for this Harvard Review brain trust. Maybe then he can mount a better attempt at emulating a commander in chief instead of his usual eunuch in chief stance.

Actually I’m not unaware of that (that Carter and others also mispronounced the word). And if this were the only bit of idiocy from Bush, it would be small criticism indeed. However, it doesn’t even rank in the top, oh, let’s say the top 50. And of course, in terms of consequences, it’s completely innocuous.

I’m an Army brat — so, although my dad (a West Pointer) was certainly saluting well before I arrived on the scene, I know for a fact he “practiced” it.

@Lynn Dee: I have never belonged to a political party and I never will. I don’t have to defend any of them. I vote for the person and the issue.

I asked earlier that if Obama watched war movies I was curious which side he was rooting for. If you watch ANY war movies you AUTOMATICALLY know how to salute. You learned it as a kid if you saw war movies.

On the other side of the coin, I agree that Clinton never should have been impeached. One conservative radio talk show host read the part of the Constitution that applied to impeachment and it basically said there would have to be treason involved. Fooling around with Monica and lying to Congress isn’t treason.

We should all be careful of what we say. If the tables were turned, and the other side were in office, but the event was the same, them we should say the same things as we did to the other side. That is one thing I noticed the democrats can’t do as much as the republicans do.

Another thing I have noticed is that if a democrat disagrees with someone it seems that most of the time they are so hateful and argumentative about it and have to use that liberal dirty language. How do you get someone to see your side of an issue if you argue with them and cuss them out with gutter language?

No, watching war movies isn’t enough. You still have to practice. In front of a mirror. You may observe in war movies the straight line from elbow to fingertips. But to do it requires practice in front of a mirror. Otherwise, as sure as God made little green apples, you will bend your wrist.

BTW, the crack about “which side he was rooting for”? Disgusting. You guys can’t help yourselves, can you?

This absolutely goes both ways. Did you hear Sister Sarah tonight? Nothing but snark. If her base gets any more consolidated, it will be a black hole.

@Lynn Dee: Take a look at the salute when he was a senator:

    http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r14/missnry/?action=view&current=Obamasalute.jpg&newest=1

His hand is open and facing outward. As far as practicing in front of a mirror, some of us don’t like what we see when we look in a mirror, so we practice without it. It can be done. I did it.

I agree this is a little thing that I can pass on, but I can’t pass on what he is doing to destroy the country. With all of the jobs being lost, why is almost all of the stimulus money that Obama borrowed unspent. I forget what percentage has been spent, but it was in the teens. Almost all of it was spent in areas that donated to Obama. The rest is just sitting someplace not being used.

He now wants to barrow billions more for another stimulus, but they haven’t spent the money for the first stimulus. If the first stimulus didn’t work, how will the second one?

We are paying interest on loans we aren’t using. That would be like you getting a loan for a house, and then START looking at houses.

Let’s look at it this way. If you are in debt and your car and house payments are coming up, do you (1) Cut back on expenses (2) Apply for another credit card?

Every time taxes were cut the economy did better. Every time they were raised the economy did worse. What the propaganda media didn’t tell you is that after the tax cuts George Bush got, the Federal government was taking in more money than they were BEFORE the tax cuts. You have to let people and businesses have money left over to spend before they can spend it on extra stuff they don’t have to have. When the government takes it off the top they have less to spend.

Lynn Dee…”I’m an Army brat — so, although my dad (a West Pointer) was certainly saluting well before I arrived on the scene, I know for a fact he “practiced” it.”

Well, Ma’am, I was a mustang, an OCS Commission with Three Years Enlisted Service, so I knew how to salute from rendering it out of respect. After I was Commissioned, I still render it with respect and No, I did not practice that at the “Coed School on the Hudson”. I learned it at Harmony Church at Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg and a few other places where respect and courtesy meant something. My Daughter was an Army Dependent and is now a Cadet at The US Air Force Academy and never was anyone’s “brat”.

I do not expect any Career Politician to salute. At times I do salute Rank and return salutes with respect. I’m just an old recalled from retirement 0-6 with a “by name” assignment where saluting just might tag a fella as a target so we go light on it “in these here parts”. This my third war and it is not a Hollywood production. I am Combat Arms but a Grad of the War College and the school of hard knocks.

I hold no Political Party Membership, nor do wish to. I don’t have any guilt by association issues. Both Parties have mismanaged Foreign and Domestic policy for decades, bankrupted the Treasury and failed at fiscal prudence beyond my wildest dreams. The leadership of neither parties have nothing to crow about. We are involved in a War that we never asked for but could have been decided years ago if War had been declared and pursued with more focus. The US Economy is as crapped up now as during the FDR Administration. Better than 16 to 18% Unemployment in some major cities back home and throwing more borrowed cash at it has not helped. “Shovel Ready” WPA projects have not brought any results. Fannie, Freddie, Medicare and Social Security are broke so both Parties can hold the bag on that mess.

Anyway, welcome to FA and expect civility from those that receive it from you. It’s 37F and raining in Helmand Province right now and 10:42 hrs. I was promised a hot meal today so it is my lucky day By God! And no Kool Aid on the menu here…

And you know that’s a salute because…? Truth to tell, I’m not even sure Senators salute. Exactly where do you picture them fitting into the chain of command?

Oh you can pass on the salute now? Brave man!

As for destroying the country, at least you’ve located what is perhaps our most significant area of disagreement.

I understand the right wing thinks he’s destroying the country. I completely disagree. He has pulled us back from the brink that that idiot Bush had us teetering on.

That was a nice comment you made about the mirror. Not sure what you meant by it, but it struck me as an unexpected show of vulnerability.

@Cary: I posted earlier that I am guessing that Obama doesn’t even see the speech ahead of time. As I mentioned then, when the teleprompter breaks down he has nothing to say. If he had rehearsed the speech he would at least be able to talk about some of the rest of it.

One person posted that the ones who write the speech should spell the words the way they sound to make it easier to pronounce them.

That reminded me that there has been a drive to do this with the English language to make it easier to learn and speak. I go along with that idea. The names of people and places would stay the same, but wherever else words could be changed to how they sound would make it a lot easier for all of us.

@Old Trooper 2: Focusing just on the salute, I have always tried to salute any service member I see, but then they feel required to salute back. Is there a military sign that you all used that meant “Thank you,” or “Job well done” that we can give you when we see you?

If not, I think present and past military personnel should get together and come up with one so we can give you the “Thank you” you all deserve. I have suggested this idea to different milblogs and hope something comes of it. If you like the idea, please pass it on.

Did I strike a nerve? How do you reconcile the “coed school on the Hudson” crack with your daughter attending the Air Force Academy? Or do you figure, “Oh well, the air force. Might as well have women attend their little Christian school in Colorado. But the Army? Huh! Huh!”

And are you telling me you never practiced saluting? If you are, I don’t believe you. :D

BTW, having grown up with the term “army brat,” it’s just a term to me. I could say dependent — and did when filling out forms for ID cards — but “brat” is shorter, and I never had a problem with it.

And save the lecture on respect. Save it at least until you can deliver it without the rigidity of a rooster who’s just had his feathers ruffled.

There’s enough of you zombie brains out there already, blindly parroting revisionist economic history, without adding more drug laden voters to the population.

As I said, at least prior commanders in chief knew how to pronounce the designation of their military service personnel. And to pile on further, prior Presidents generally recognized civilian personnel from military, and didn’t feel the need to create a new protocol of returning salutes to civilians. This one’s a real novice INRE military ways. And diplomatic…. and economic….

“… tottering on the brink” from Bush. So the cure, with your demented thought, is to triple the deficit with welfare programs, attempt to reinflate the housing bubble at the taxpayer’s expense, and add a couple tril to the debt within a year’s span.

Lynn Dee, please don’t assume you rate more than a nanosecond of thought in a given moment with me here. As of this writing, you represent 20% of all the comments and somehow think if you keep cyber talking and hitting send, you add more points to your scoreboard. Yet each and every one is long on blanket class warfare insults, and devoid of substance… starting with your first entry.

Yet you expect to be taken seriously?

INRE the return fire from many here, I suggest you take it for what it is. They are amusing themselves with a dead rat from the sinking ship. Stay as long as you like. Most the FA crowd is hungry for prey since most of our more regular progressives flew the coop after serious misprojections in MA. You serve good purpose, helping release some of their pent up energies. But it becomes even more entertaining when you misconstrue the FA cat/dead rat play as you, somehow, making headway with any viable point of debate. That is if you consider points of debate personal insults instead of documented facts, and digging your nose into some of the commenter’s personal lives as a diversion or an attempt to question credibility.

I believe we usually refer to playing games with those at your debate level as “shooting fish in a barrel”. We’re all pretty well schooled in Alinksy tactics of attempted manipulation here.

OT has no obligation to prove himself to those who slithered out from underneath the DC area rocks, such as yourself. By the nature of his rank, position and deployment, he’s already done that for those that have far more political clout and military relevance than you. We all go way back with Trooper, and a few of us know more of him personally. You, cupcake, do not fall into that inner circle of “need to know”.

But I will say that if you’re the cream of the crop that OFA has to offer for an O’cyber army, that sinking ship is fathoms deeper than even I suspected. So when you’ve run out of your progressive spit wads as ammo, feel free to send on those higher up in O’cyber defense force who are more well equipped. We’d welcome the challenge.

And before you start the inevitable whining about Bush, carefully study over this one:

Weren’t we told repeatedly that unemployment would not go above 8% if the $787 billion stimulus bill was passed?

    How did that work out?

    Not too good……

And then there’s unemployment and housing starts:

Doesn’t look like things are getting better, eh?

If you’ll look a bit more carefully, Cary, you’ll see I’m not making any ad hominem attacks. Certainly not against any of the posters here.

    Okay, I’ll look more closely….

    Starting with a definition:

Definitions of ad hominem on the Web:

    * appealing to personal considerations (rather than to fact or reason); “ad hominem arguments”

    * An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: “argument to the man”, “argument against the man”) consists of replying to an …

    * In an argument, this is an attack on the person rather than on the opponent’s ideas. It comes from the Latin meaning “against the man.”

    * (Latin) literally “to the man”; if two political candidates come together to debate an issue, but one of the two attacks his opponent instead …

    * A fallacy that attacks the person rather than dealing with the real issue in dispute.

    * appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

With this in mind, I’ll refer you to the following comments:

#45 “…anyone the sorry GOP has to offer (not to mention the absurd tea party)…” (note the words “sorry” and “absurd”

#56 “Would you like some Hostess cupcakes with your anti-Obama koolaid?” (how is that NOT ad hominem?)

#64 “Oh you can pass on the salute now? Brave man!”

#65 “Oh give me a freaking break. Respect welled up in you, and the next thing you knew, you where snapping off perfect salutes??!! I laugh at your bullshit!” (seriously not ad hominem?)

    # 69 “Did I strike a nerve? How do you reconcile the “coed school on the Hudson” crack with your daughter attending the Air Force Academy? Or do you figure, “Oh well, the air force. Might as well have women attend their little Christian school in Colorado. But the Army? Huh! Huh!”

….. And save the lecture on respect. Save it at least until you can deliver it without the rigidity of a rooster who’s just had his feathers ruffled.”

#74 “BTW, what exactly is it you’re doing in Helmand Province that you have time to post on the internet? Also, when did the military start writing 1042 hours as 10:42 hours?

Never mind. No need to answer. I think I can figure it out.”

    I think that’s close enough.

    Maybe we’re just talking.

No, you’re trying to get the last word, in a place where neither you nor I have the home team advantage. Trust me, it’s a losing battle. You’re outnumbered. Start your own blog, it’s easy.

Finally, as regards substance, the lead post was about Obama’s mispronunciation of the word “corpsman” and the various conclusions drawn therefrom. So there wasn’t a whole lot of substance to begin with. But, to the extent there was any, that is exactly where I initially weighed in.

I agree with you that it’s petty. But it’s our guy’s goof, so he deserves to be called on it. Again, it’s their blog, they can bring up what they want and they can have the last word, and we can’t expect to suddenly changes everyones’ minds.

This thread will die out in its time, which I assume will be soon.

Outstanding rundown of the palm notes by Warner Todd Huston

…Let’s say that anyone that has to have notes for every single appearance is an idiot that cannot remember to draw a breath unless he has a note to remind him to do it.

If that is a solid point to make, we have but one word that can put little Steffie in his place, make Sarah seem like a genius, and diss his messiah all at once. That word…

    Teleprompter!

That’s right folks, if Sarah is an idiot for having four or five words scribbled on her palm to remind her of the order in which she wants to address the issues, then what is president Obama that has to set teleprompters up in a sixth grade class room to talk to the folks there? What is Obama that has to set up a teleprompter bank in a meeting with one of his own committees (one with about 10 people in attendance)? What is a president that we wouldn’t be surprised to find out can’t even say good morning to his wife at breakfast with out a teleprompter bank set up to guide him through the salutation!!

Barack Obama, the “great orator,” needs teleprompters for every lame utterance, every speech, every policy announcement, every single public syllable, yet this shameless moonbat on Huff-n-Puff is crazed that Palin has five words scribble on her palm?

If Sarah can do a whole speech with but five or six tiny words to guide her, doesn’t that make her a genius compared to the guy that has to have hundreds of words fed to him via technology every time he opens his mouth?

At least with Sarah having written the words on her open hand we know that she is herself the source of her words. With the king of teleprompters up there we can’t be sure who is pulling HIS strings!

See what I mean about liberals? They have no sense of shame, no sense of proportion, not a single firing synapse to guide them. It truly is a mental disorder.

This is what has sent the followers of the TelePromTer Jesus into paroxysms:

    Amusing isn’t it?

Because delivering a speech with less than ten words written on your palm really is worse than not being able to string three sentences together without electronic assistance.

The thing about 10% unemployment is that for industries such as food service, this is always a slow time for us. But we still have our jobs, and things typically pick up within a month or two. This goes for restaurants, hotels, catering (all of which I do work in) …etc… and I’m gonna guess it’s the same for retail. People NEVER spend money in January, regardless of the state of the economy, as they are recouping from the holidays. I’ll be very interested in seeing the figures come mid- April, and how success is claimed, when it’s actually the natural order of things.

The figures in Nov were 7.8 – the busy season. Come April/ May going from 10% to 7% will not be much of a success, but I’m sure it will be touted as such. Bring us to 5% and I’ll concede progress.

Also, I have absolutely no problem with anyone who uses notes or reads what’s written for a speech, whether it be on a screen in front of them, on their hand, typed on paper they keep on the podium, or index cards. It’s nothing new. The only thing new here is technology.

@rich wheeler: In such a case, they would be variations of the same speech, and she could upgrade to index cards. I most likely wouldn’t vote for her, but this is really not a counter against her. How many speeches have YOU given without notes? As an actor, I can tell you that a typical rehearsal period for a stage play is four weeks, we’re often off book within a week and a half. For film, it’s stop and go so not as much of an issue. I don’t expect my President to know every word of his/her speeches along with everything else they do. I do expect the speeches to reflect what they have and mean to accomplish. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only President who any sort of acting training was Ronald Reagan, and even he used notes and teleprompters.

Well first of all, Rich, let me start with saying that I don’t think she’s the ditz that the media plays her up to be. I think she was thrust into the National spotlight perhaps before she was ready to be, because McCain wanted to play the gender card, thinking that Hillary would be Obama’s running mate. That doesn’t make her stupid.

She stands on the opposite side of many of the issues that are important to me, so I’d not likely vote for her unless she changed those positions. It will also depend on who would be running against her, and what their positions are.

I hope that answers your question for you. I’m gonna leave this alone now, as I have the feeling you’re trying to bait me and I’ll have none of that. You’ve also ignored my main point about using notes. Besides, I gotta go get some beer and pizza and get ready for the game.

@Rich Wheeler, Oh brother, from a Democrat, that is such a joke. Sarah Palin is monumentally more quslified than the spineless Obama. When did that POS stand on his own and face the truth. He is being run by unknown Svengalis, who knows from which countries. Palin comes from a place of honest beliefs in the American way, family and country. Her tenure as Governor gave her tons of experience compared to the POS at the head of the Demolition Party. One day Palin will stand with one of her pumps on his chest waving the American flag, “We are America once again.”

The Democratic Party of today will go down in history as one of America’s tragedies, only to be overcome by the people who believe in the Constitution and all matters that made this country independent and great. Obasm is anti-American, and un-Constitutional. He cand scratch his face and give us the finger all he wants. We are not going away.

Oh I think you guys miss the point. (And sorry, I don’t have time to read every post here. But I get the gist.)

See, for Obama, there’s a difference between speeches and Q&A. Speeches are carefully crafted. There are points to make, overarching themes, thoughts to provoke. He cares about language.

Q&A, of course — for Obama, anyway — is a different activity. It requires listening to the question and then answering it. Sometimes he’ll reject the premise or the framing of a question — but if he does that, he’ll tell you he’s doing that and why — and then reframe it or provide a valid premise. (I know you guys probably won’t admit you saw his Q&A at the House Republican retreat. But hoo boy. A masterful performance.)

So, a teleprompter is appropriate for a speech — and no different, really, than having the speech on cards — but completely inappropriate for Q&A.

For Sister Sarah, it’s all the same. Giving a speech, answering a question — either way it’s just “go” time! Just toss a word salad and that’s it! Q&A? Treat each question as the equivalent of the questioner saying “Go!” and then toss that word salad, baby!

Face it, people. The woman is an ignoramus and not remotely interested in correcting that problem. She’s extremely skilled at delivering non-stop snark with a you-betcha smile but that’s her sole skill. Not that that doesn’t work quite well with her base. Obviously it does. But I have yet to hear her actually voice a thought. Even a “received” thought is beyond her — it’s all word salad. That’s it.

Anyway… who dat! Were the Saints spectacular or what?! :D

Busy at work. I’ll let Nate Silver take it from here. He’s exactly right:

“There’s something which, if you’ve ever been in the business of trying to sell consulting services, you’ve probably grown accustomed to. It’s what I call the “consulting paradox”. Namely, it’s the idea that the people who are most in need of help are often the least aware of it. Indeed, the range of potential clients who (i) aren’t smart enough to solve all their own problems and (ii) are smart enough to know it … is generally very narrow.

Sarah Palin needs help. So does almost every politician — but Palin needs it more than most. She is young. She is inexperienced. She’s not especially well connected. She’s strong-willed and a little impulsive. And call me a hater, but the woman just ain’t that bright.

Is it a big deal that Palin wrote some notes on her hand? No, not really. Lots of politicians carry notes with them (if not, as in Palin’s case, literally ON them). If this were Mitt Romney, it wouldn’t have been a particularly big story. Nevertheless, POLITICS IS INHERENTLY CONTEXTUAL, and this was something that was bound to play into every negative caricature of Mrs. Palin. Somebody needed to take Palin aside and tell her: Honey, this is going to make you look ridiculous. Can’t you write on a notecard instead?”

If we could step back for a moment and get an overview, we would see that many people in this country, especially on the Left, cling tenaciously to a paradigm that is over a hundred years old. In this paradigm, “monied interests” continually conspire against the “common man,” with only the “progressives” to protect us hapless commoners.

Further, those wascally interests project power abroad, to find others whom they might exploit. I think it’s not such a bad paradigm. I surely gave it my best for nearly thirty years. It has just simply been dashed to smithereens on the rocks of reality.

Consider, the very nice people defending the “rights” of illegal immigrants to this country, as if they had been brought here for some humanitarian purpose, rather than to be exploited for their cheap labor. I have heard tender-hearted Liberal clergy, and business agents for unions (!!) defend the further importation of third- world workers. Who will benefit? The employers of said workers, of course, and other employers, as well, who think we need more cheap labor to keep costs down.

Just who are those dastardly capitalists, anyway? Well, if you mean the money men of Wall Street, they are Democrats. A quick look at the electoral maps of New York City and its wealthy Connecticut suburbs shows a very deep blue sea. The vile corporations that secretly rule Amerika? Eighty per cent of the CEO’s are Democrats.

These corps use regulation to stifle the entry of new competition, until their industries die of some sort of sclerosis, like our automobile, rail road, and steel industries have done. Who owns the stocks in corporations? Some of them are fat cats, like major Democrat bank roll George Soros. Some, indeed, a great deal, of stock is in the IRA’s of ordinary folk and in the pension plans of unions, who are defenders of the commoners.

Our troops around the world, supposedly enforcing our economic rape and pillage thereof, are mostly concentrated in some of the richest countries, like Japan and South Korea, and Germany, now moved on to Poland. Some pillage! I clearly remember when Japan and South Korea were third-world countries, who made cheap toys out of old beer cans and tissue paper, not highly technological automobiles and electronics.

We “bombed Iraq for oil,” and now the Chinese have outbid us for contracts to explore and sell that oil. Mexico, whose largest export is poverty, nationalized its oil industry in 1937, and now oil is its second export, behind that poverty. Remember those evil insurance companies opposing the beneficient health care takeover? Thank God, some of them did just that.

A number of others, however, supported nationalization, with lobbying and advertising funds. Corporations do, indeed, try to earn a profit. That is their duty to their shareholders, whether the shareholders are fat-cat Democrats or little old ladies’ pension plans.

The legitimate police power of the government must enforce the laws against fraud and coercion. Occasionally, they get around to doing just that, as when, at the beginning of the past decade, Enron was finally called to account for the money entrusted to it, after years of madcap highjinks.

How, you must be asking, does this connect to BHO’s malapropisms? Well, it’s actually quite simple. Although he appears to be reading things from a teleprompter that he does not understand, and did not even have the initiative to read beforehand and ask for a few footnotes, he is being defended, counter to all reason, by people who insist that he is their champion, their standard bearer in the “struggle” against evil corporate skulduggery.

No doubt, these same defenders will assail me, too, for “shilling for the corporations,” (Please send the check via FA.) They will drag out some anecdote or several that “prove” the existence of the evil capitalist conspiracy. However, again taking the larger view, the average worker in Western Europe has a standard of living roughly equivalent to our welfare recipients, if we measure in things like square feet of living space, daily grams of protein consumed, etc.

There is more opportunity here to move from one socioeconomic stratum to another. Instead of trying to glue back together the shards of the shattered paradigm, one does, indeed, benefit from looking at the real world, and the real people in it.

Your intent came thru loud and clear, thank you. And while it may have initially sailed over the head of a non-US citizen, it do not over the rest of us. But I will say it’s a stellar attempt at a last minute “save”. Too bad that what Aye correctly points out….. your capitalization, which belies your last minute attempts to dodge your less than “open mind and heart”…. nullifies your cover alibi.

Actually it is the hatred shown by so many here that will send me on

Can we take that as a promise? Nope. Can’t raise my hopes. Alas, I see that as yet another talking point, and am quite sure you need an outlet for your juvenile fraternal humor.

But then, truly I would be sad to see you move on. I’m so looking forward to you being OT’s “main course” over the campfire while you think of yourself as a “guest”.

But then, OT’s patient to a point. As an ex-warrior, he’s apt to give you some leeway for redemption. But he’s also known to take no quarter, and issue no miranda rights. And I’ll give you fair warning… you are out strategized at every exit. At that point, you will find yourself in the middle of nowhere – OT’s neck of the woods when not in the Stans – dependent only on those that surround you, and their mercy.

Suggest you leave your family at home until you discern whether you’re a guest, or an appetizer.

Okay okay…. I’m a racist…. been a fan of NASCAR for years now.

And I’m really missing Lynne Dee’s non-stop snark. I was hoping to gather enough for some snark soup later. Granted it is rather bitter but that’s too be expected… I believe it’s the fear of 2010 that taints the flavor.
