There iare big differences between why the State of California is suffering, and why the State of Nevada is suffering, and the real estate market is an symptom (i.e. as a result of), not a cause.

California is suffering due to a government/voter attitude of political-fiscal irresponsibility. It was a situation of their own creation.

Nevada, on the other hand began experiencing it’s financial problems on and after 9/11. While marketers and developers tried to continue to expand the city, It never really recovered from the loss of conventions and tourism the attack caused, and and the growing country-wide recession has made things worse as less individuals and businesses have the discretionary spending that enabled them to visit Las Vegas. None of this is the fault of Nevada citizens or it’s government, but is due mostly to the drop-off in tourism. Nevadans are at lest lucky in that the last two decades has seen explosive growth in population and non-casino business employment. (Many who relocated from California to leave it’s less business-friendly legislature enacted tax and regulatory burdens.)

Incidentally, many other cities that sport casinos type entertainment are also experiencing low tourism numbers as well, but Obama has decided specifically and unfairly, to target Las Vegas as his whipping boy.

You are in error that Nevada denizens are “blaming political off the cuff remarks” for their current financial crisis. They are accusing him of thwarting more efficient recovery. And there is truth to that since, in the wake of his original remarks, the convention bookings took a dive.

However it can be said that, unlike certain Californians, the Nevada folks aren’t looking to the WH for a handout as a solution. They are asking him to step aside, and allow their state’s tourist business economy to continue as usual. And I’m quite sure they can survive without your personal visit.

The R.E. boom and bust has badly deflated the state’s revenue.Unlike certain Nevadans we’re not blaming political off the cuff remarks.Cal and L.V. will recover in spite of the politicians.
