Exactly. If America didn’t import an endless stream of uneducated people who don’t have a pot to p!ss in then the “gap between rich and poor” would decline. Not only this but a steady supply of ‘drones’ has stifled innovations in agriculture which would have been necessitated by the shortage of unskilled labour.

Good point about the rising number of immigrants and the economic disparity. This is especially true of poor and minority groups who are competing most directly with cheap immigrant labor. I am adamantly opposed to strict race based immigration policies that we had before, but we must not simply allow a porous border and let sob stories determine national policy.

I am surprised that she didn’t try and compare today’s immigration to the flood of Irish that came in during the 19th century. They had the same problems we are having today and they solved it by setting up immigration centers, restricting the amount of people allowed in and turning away those who were sick or had criminal records. In time the flood subsided to a trickle and that lasted until after WWII. History always has the answers, all it takes is someone willing to look at the mistakes of the past to find the answers for the future.
