Too many people don’t seem to understand that.
I often get to listen to people claiming the drug companies are gouging everyone.
What they don’t know:

Companies spend billions on R&D with no guarantee of success. It’s not unusual for millions or even hundreds of millions to be spent trying to develop drugs that never come to fruition. So they have to cover such costs by charging more for the ones that do make it to market while making sure their other expenses are provided for. You know, overhead, advertising, lawsuits from bottom feeding lawyers…
Socialist countries cap what can be charged for meds. Poor countries can’t pay full price. The result? Those that can afford to pay more for those medications do. Guess who that is? Us.

The day that our pharmaceutical companies say screw this and go into some other line, we are in deep trouble.
