As far as “speaking with one voice”. Two points, because I watched that WH statement today.

First point: Merckel stated that the Iranian opposition had the right to an election recount. Care to point out when Obama has ever tread that far in his fence straddling statements?

Second point: Only with a strong voice at his side does Obama step another step further and say (according to your stellar news service, Huffpo):

Obama said it was too soon to tell how potential direct contact between the United States and Iran will be affected by the recent events. Attempting to break from his predecessor George W. Bush, Obama has sought to loosen the diplomatic freeze with Iran, but that effort is now in question — at best.

Keeping pressure on Iran’s rulers, Obama emphasized the rights of the people there.

“Their bravery in the face of brutality is a testament to their enduring pursuit of justice,” Obama said.

“The violence perpetrated against them is outrageous. In spite of the government’s efforts to keep the world from bearing witness to that violence, we see it and we condemn it.”

We finally get a comment about “their enduring pursuit of justice” out of Obama. And wow… there’s that strong “condemn” word again. I am shuddering at the power of his convictions… *not*.

What we see is that, unless Obama has someone at his side with some cajones, like Merckel, he remains the eunuch in chief. And in fact, he plays the dummy to Merckel’s ventroloquist with his bold “one voice” comment… because the only voice specifically demanding a fair election and full recount of what is obviously an illegitimate election – and certified by the Ayatollah – is Merckel. But then, I guess the ball’less POTUS lets Merckel carry the load for him, as he chimes in with a brave “me too”.

I think Obama has a case of “despot envy”. He wishes HE had that much power to silence his critics. He’s done everything he can short of that to shut down any dissent whenever the heat is turned up on him. Thuggish tactics are his bread and butter when you get right down to it. Look at the way he won his early elections–by eliminating all of his opponents.
