Sometimes I wonder if I'm one of the few who understood that Rush Limbaugh's announcement that he was 'passing the torch of "titular head of the Republican Party to Colin Powell" was nothing more than sarcasm aimed at the Democratic talking heads who are trying to cause strife within the Republican Party. Instead it seems the derisiveness of his comment was lost on them.

Who's talking about pushing them out of the party? I just want them pushed out of Congress. However that's difficult to do when only RINOs or left conservatives are candidates. Can you say "no choices"?

Aqua has it exactly right. McCain was about as moderate is he could get. He's not even conservative on many issues. But compared to Obama's growth of government promises, McCain bore more resemblence to a conservative than not... yet Powell did not support him.

Republicans have become virtually indistinguishable from Democrats... they just want to grow the government and it's power a little more slowly. Democrat lite doesn't sell. Especially when the nation votes for the conservative message of "tax cuts for 95% of Americans", and free health care that they believe will be borne by the "wealthy", and not by that same 95%.

The nation was, and remains, fiscally conservative for the most part. Our elected leadership, however, does not represent the same. And that is because there are few conservatives going into the dirty business of politics.

And great post, Word da man.

Great post Word. I caught that while I was watching Face the Nation too. I agree that pushing people out of the party is not the way to go. The Republican party needs everyone it can get. RINO's, moderates and country-clubbers are much easier to reason with than lefties. Reagan won by landslides, and the moderates and democrats alike voted for him in droves. He was able to articulate the message of conservatism and the Republican party.

One thing that irritates me about General Powell though. McCain was about as moderate a presidential candidate you could find. Why didn't Powell support him? If his vote was about race, I don't think anyone would hold that against him. I wouldn't have. If he had the guts to say he was voting for a black man for president because he wanted a black president, fine. Was it Palin? I have a hard time with that argument. If you back a president based on their pick of VP, he picked Biden.

If Palin gets the right people around her and learns to handle the press, she will be a formidable opponent in 2012. And I think Newt is da bomb, always have. He has some obstacles to overcome, but I think if anyone can do it, it would be Newt.

I would argue that Powell defending what the Bush admin did after 9/11 is more of the Powell we have come to know--the self serving one. If what was done was wrong, than he too was in the wrong. That is why he defends what was done.
I will also say I AM in favor of purging the RINOs. They only hurt the party in the end. However, we should be careful not to make the RINO label too broad.

Vice President Cheney says when Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured he told interrogators "'I'll talk to you guys, after I get to New York and see my lawyer"
(Chaneys's viewpoint we need to know ASAP what KSM knows about imminent attacks to save American lives)

President Obama says "Enhanced interrogation is a recruitment tool for jehadists. We could have gotten the information by other means"
(Obama never says what the 'other means' are, on the other hand he wants to bring GITMO inmates to the US for trial)

So we know for a fact under Bush/Chaney's watch we haven't been attacked since 9/11 .....
... but suppose for one minute on 9/11 Obama was POTUS and KSM was captured and brought to NY where (if we are to believe VP Chaney..which I do) Khalid Sheikh Mohammed would give no information only defense and propaganda statements thu his lawyers and most likely with the media covering every word.

Now I ask you guys in all sincerety which do you think would be the greater jehadist recruitment tool.

A) A soggy sad defeated looking Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
or
B) A defiant Khalid Sheikh Mohammed surrounded by lawyers making his case in US courts.
