Hawk: Sad to say, but there are so many people who know how to play the system and soak up unneeded benefits. This makes it much harder for people who really need the benefits to get them. All the best to you and your family.

Cary: Atlanta area. While I appreciate the offer, we are OK for now but really really tight and some of our creditors aren't going to like what they will be receiving in the mail soon. But hey, you can't get blood from a turnip! When you are living on a quarter of what you were ....

HOWEVER, I am currently studying a few things that I see companies looking for BUT I just spoke with a headhunter/recruiter yesterday(and two more today) where their experience is that a good many of people are getting to the next to last interview only to be told that the company can't get the financing to fill the job or that financing was pulled.

My last interview was with a company that just had salary cuts. They aren't sure if they are going to still even fill the position now.

mooseburger: Thanks and very appreciated. There is a lot more to this story that I may someday share. While I hate having to do what I am, my back is to the wall and until I can FURTHER improve my skill set to get my foot in the door and more pay. One can hope :)

"I would not ever advocate taking benefits from those who are truly in need, and I regret adding to your personal stress level."

I've worked places where people just refuse to work and only want the "welfare dime."
And trust me that leaves me fuming! Even once had a frequent customer who bragged to other customers on how she was going to have yet another kid to get more money!
REFORM is definitely needed. It should be for times like I am going through and not a career for those who ARE ABLE BODIED.

This is my first time having to fall back on the system. While it is a blessing to have it there, the whole picture of events has made me question even more what I can do to hopefully not be back in this pickle (depending on a company for a job/benefits).

Anyway, again THANKS!

Hawk: As I said in response to mlajoie2, my sarcasm is not my best characteristic. I understand why some of these programs are there, and also believe that how we as a country treat the most vulnerable among us says much about what kind of country we have and what kind of people we are.

My daughter works with special needs people every day, and it takes a very special person to give the love and care required. I am certain that you and my Daughter share that common giving heart. Our State of Indiana has cut funding for these programs to keep the budget under control, and the effect on the services needed are very real and not good. I am very sorry I tweaked you with my posting. I was making a point about Conservative's and the principled Rick Santelli inspired stand often taken when making their talking points. I would not ever advocate taking benefits from those who are truly in need, and I regret adding to your personal stress level. Hearing your story puts a much more personal feel to the issue when folks are just yelling Socialism, when in fact, it is so much more complicated than just an Anti Obama slogan being thrown around for it's political zing.

I don't have much to offer, but I am with Cary, if there is something we can do to help, I will offer what I can.

mlajoie2: My apologies for the rant, I have a sarcastic nature that I try to control, and reading my post, I admit I was over the top. Your response was kinder than I may have deserved.

As I read many of the posts and responses on this site, I see a whole lot of the same kind of trashing that some folks doing it here would have found unacceptable against the last Administration. You are right, I am kind of new here, and my own Knee jerk response to your post is the same thing I have called others out for, so in the words of Michael Steele...My Bad.

Back in Hosea's time, mixing of the nations was different than today. Today the world is so much smaller, and there is no turning back the clock. For good or for bad, most of the world's economies are linked together, and this is not Obama's fault. I think we as a country have litttle choice but to deal with that. Back in Hosea's time, they didn't have to, and in fact, God didn't want them marrying foreign wives and allowing their idol worship to infiltrate Isreal.

There are many Bible doctrines that we as a people pick and choose to adhere to, many we overlook. You wrote a thoughtful post, but one could easily write an opposing post using Biblical references. In fact, Liberals, Conservatives, and all mankind could be condemned using the Bible, any and all groups you might choose, and therein lies the danger.

I am glad for the separation of Church and State, and think this is a wise course from a Governmental standpoint. I don't think that Obama said anything wrong when he made those statements about not being a Christian Nation. He was speaking to the World as the President of this country, as a governmental representative we elected. With the freedoms we have here, I can not only practice my beliefs to the fullest in any faith I choose, I don't have the worry of my Government imposing restrictions on the exercise of my faith, (unless I am an American Indian, but that's for another debate). This is a blessing, and as God gives us free choice and free will, it is in harmony with how I think God has given us this free will.

mooseburger: WOW! Just ... WOW!

I am an independent and until recently, self sufficient.
That is .. until a certain International Company who posted record profits last year (and even paid their CEO some 20+ million in bonus money) decided that they would rather move more of their employees to India than invest in keeping US citizens employed (This is a trend business week has reported on).

Now, being in a nervous market where banks are not giving out money easily and employers being nervous to hire new people, I am having a hard time finding a job to make near what I was making with it being an employers market (assuming they can even get the funds to hire).

Add in a special needs child who was "normal" at birth and developed issues around 4 months of age - my medical costs just went through the roof(and yes this i with insurance in place). So.... with that said, guess which program I will probably have to take part in after having spent the last bit of my savings recently to make things work? Go on. GUESS!

Well I guess I could choose to stick him in an orphanage and just "do the right thing" or just institutionalize him, right? I am sure he'd get the world's best care & love there (Riiiiight *cough cough*)

Put my money where my mouth is? SURE! Will do sir! And I'll be more than happy to let you later meet my child and explain to him why he can't walk nor talk because you had to have that mocha cappuccino from StarBucks, or that new big screen TV or something else. I want you to look him in the eyes and explain that to him.

Do I plan on making it a career? No. I want off any and all social programs as quick as I possibly can get off of them. But by gosh, I have paid into them these last 30+ years of working and I fully feel I deserve to use them at this time.

Ask me how happy I am about treasonous countries who are selling out US citizens for the almighty bottom line of a dollar.

OH BTW, this company is now asking for bailout money!! Are they hurting? NOPE, they just want to create more jobs overseas at OUR expense!!!!

Ask me if I've written my representatives about how I feel on this issue!
Capitalists are funny people - All about the strongest surviving in a good market, but let it be them who is going under and suddenly they have their hands out!

"LET THEM EAT CAKE!" and go out of business!

I'm sorry but like mlajoie2 said, things are not always black and white like that.

Anyways dear sir. Let me know what dates you have on your calendar in about 5 - 6 years. I'll set up that meeting so you can explain it to him.

Add in a special needs child who was “normal” at birth and developed issues around 4 months of age – my medical costs just went through the roof(and yes this i with insurance in place). So…. with that said, guess which program I will probably have to take part in after having spent the last bit of my savings recently to make things work? Go on. GUESS!

Well I guess I could choose to stick him in an orphanage and just “do the right thing” or just institutionalize him, right? I am sure he’d get the world’s best care & love there (Riiiiight *cough cough*)

Put my money where my mouth is? SURE! Will do sir! And I’ll be more than happy to let you later meet my child and explain to him why he can’t walk nor talk because you had to have that mocha cappuccino from StarBucks, or that new big screen TV or something else.

Ask me if I’ve written my representatives about how I feel on this issue!
Capitalists are funny people – All about the strongest surviving in a good market, but let it be them who is going under and suddenly they have their hands out!

“LET THEM EAT CAKE!” and go out of business!

I’m sorry but like mlajoie2 said, things are not always black and white like that.

Anyways dear sir. Let me know what dates you have on your calendar in about 5 – 6 years. I’ll set up that meeting so you can explain it to him.

Moose,

WHOA! Hold on there I was not in any way thinking of a rod through Obama's head! Read the article and I'm comparing a silly trust in the Assyrians and in alliances in the past to the current foreign policy. "Silly, senseless dove" is what Hosea said. I saw the picture and it struck me how some people keep on going mindlessly although evidence is piercing them, like a chicken keeps going even after it's lost its head. It's an analogy. I don't have a vindictive bone in my body towards Obama or anyone.

I'm not against socialism in an all or nothing sort of way. Life is not like that. Government does have some obligation. Read some of my previous posts on classic Catholic social theory on balancing solidarity and subsidiarity. Like John Paul II, I abhor untrammelled, uncaring capitalism as much as I do the radical path we seem to be taking to fuller government control. I think you're new here so perhaps you have assumed I am something I am not.

This recent spending is so MASSIVE and unprecedented I think something like the Tea Parties is the only rational response, not on party or ideological bases, but simply because we have to let these leaders know WE know it is insanity and it is senseless to spend more in 2 months than has ever been spent, damaging the future of our children.

I have to get up and teach in the morning so I must go. But please do not take me for an enemy if you don't have to. I've done my share of assuming about people, too. I understand it happens. I hope to talk to you more.

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=palin+witches&hl=en&emb=0&aq=f#

If only we could have the protection from witches, our country would be safe, SAFE I TELL YOU!! And if this protection could come from a messenger from God, who would bless A TRUE leader of our country! We should learn from the Bible, and heed the Witch out casters! This kind of Biblical fervor is the only way to save our country. Lets forget about the election we just had, we didn't win and we are not happy! Lets get rid of ALL socialist programs, like the very biggest one MEDICARE. No tea party going Conservative would be a part of any socialist programs. I am calling on all conservatives now: TURN IN YOUR MEDICARE CARDS and show these Socialists we mean business!

OK, a sarcastic response, yes, but warranted. I am amazed that such crazy Biblical references and talk about a steel rod thru Obama's head is tolerated and approved of here. Medicare is the biggest Socialist program in America, Why can't your hard core Conservatives have enough guts to tell their Mom and Dads to get off the Socialism and return their Medicare cards to the Government in protest? Do Conservatives mean what they say about Socialism? Do Republican leaders have the Guts? No, they use the program themselves. And the Tea Party is just a Gimick. I would love to hear one Tea Party out there address this and take a Principled Conservative stand, Against Socialist Medicare, Tax Payer funded and redistributing MY WEALTH to OTHERS. It would be refreshing, and you know what? They would earn some credibility if they did. But they won't. That makes us run by birds all right, Doves and CHICKENS.

A wonderful article! This Saturday, April 18th, I am hosting a Tea Party in Peru, IN. Get aboard the train! Celebrate our Judeo-Christian heritage, too!
