Someone needs to get back to their principles and recite them often.
we, as taxpayers are getting screwed, and so many are angry about it. i have heard more people angry about it in the last few weeks. a friends husband ah is a conservative has been ranting when several months ago he was saying we should give obama chance. even the die dems that i know are getting mad, they re seeing what we all have seen for the last year or so. when obama’s cheerleaders are getting mad you know he about to flame out. the news media still isn’t reporting this correctly and i doubt that they never will, but the little that is being reported by the msm is starting to sink in. makes me think of the movie, “wag the dog”.
Americans blame the Republicans for the economy since they were in control of the Executive Branch
@John ryan: Wrong again. Americans blame the Republicans because Democrats refuse to accept responsibility for shielding all their big money friends from regulations which might have averted the crisis.
Sorry Mike, but I’m a conservative… not a Republican.
While I’m happy Republicans, and an increasing number of Democrats, are developing a backbone late in the game to the budget and spending, I also saw those same House Republicans were on board with HR 1586 – the AIG bonus taxation-as-punishment bill.
Tho it’s (thank heavens) failed to pass the sniff test in the Senate, it sailed thru the House with with only 6 Democrats opposed… and worse yet, only 87 Republicans opposing. Eighty-five Republicans hopped on that band wagon hype. Way too high a number to get kudos from me.
You can check your own representative at this voting record link on the bill. *All* of Virginia’s representatives were on board with the taxation heist, including Cantor.
Bottom line, I support principles… not letters behind names. Those that behave in a fiscally conservative manner, I will support. The rest? Take a hike, for all I care.
But I’m a far cry from “proud”.
Check out executive vice president of AIG, Jake DeSantis’ letter to Liddy, printed in the NYTimes:
@Wordsmith: Good for him! John Galt lives again!
It is good to see the GOP doing this. It is the Dems fault. They did this to this country and are trashing our liberties.
I am with Mata. I am a Conservative, not a Republican. The GOP needs to earn my support. They are getting there but need prove they are returning to Conservatism and STAY there. They will cream the Dems if they do. I, also, saw what Jindal said and good for him. He is standing up to Obama and say we need to go after him.

@Franklin’s Locke: “The GOP needs to earn my support. “
And that’s exactly what they are doing. Unless of course someone wants to disagree with the hardhitting nature of these ads which represent the same unified position our elected officials are taking.
What I find so counterproductive is this idea that unless our GOP officials meet some impossible standard of conservative purity that we won’t support them even when they are doing the right thing.
Dems have been manipulating that sorry impulse to their advantage the last few years and it’s about time we refused to play along.
That impulse, as well as third party idiocy is the Dems best friend.
Mike,
I absolutely agree! We’ve been warring with each other (soul-searching and a good ol’ kick in the pants can be productive) and to a point of counterproductivity, where it is very fashionable to simply bash the GOP itself and turn one’s nose up in the air as the epitomy of a true conservative.
If the GOP were RINOs one and all, you would not have had every single Republican Rep vote against the Stimulus Bill, with only 3 Republican Senators who did RINOrally break ranks with their party and side with Democrats.
There’s hope and change on the horizon for the Republicans, yet….
@Wordsmith: @Wordsmith: There’s only one person I agree with 100% and I’m not currently serving in Congress or the Senate.
We talk about only supporting conservatives but what does that mean? My idea of a conservative is different from everyone elses. Should I dump on every candidate who fails to meet my personal standard?
During my political career I’ve met with some folks who didn’t think I was conservative enough. Since most liberals think I’m a firebreathing right winger I found that conclusion to be rather odd.
As for the RINOS: plenty of them have had an awakening lately as they realized that Obama would NOT be governing as a centrist. They were duped and all that dumping on conservatives they did right after the election makes them seem pretty foolish now. Hopefully they are learning their lesson too.
Bulletin.. a pile of those GOPers to admire just voted to procedurally clear the way for Obama’s $6 billion National Service Corp proposal.
Passed 74-14, with 11 utilizing the famous Obama “present” vote. Translation? 14 GOP Senators had back bone. Even most of those cited cost, not principle. Hardly impressive. Another 4 didn’t vote, along with 7 Democrat Senators.
Here’s Canadian Free Press’s account.
The House GOPers helped it pass last week 321-105.
@MataHarley: Is the standard for support to be that unless the majority of GOP Senators vote against every piece of Obama inspired legislation we intend to damn them all????
I don’t think in party affiliation, Mike. Never did, never will. I think in principles.
So my answer to you is… no, I don’t damn them all. Nor will I give the GOP blanket support because a few of them voted in line with my principles either.
This is a one on one battle with me. I will always give support to those who are correct on the issue, as I did with Lieberman on Iraq. Partisan thinking isn’t my bag. I’m more livid at the DNC as a whole than I am the GOP. But frankly, my disdain for both is beyond measure.
Mike, if they are BAD programs, then YES damn them all
whats getting really sad is we have no one to turn to to punish either party, the GOP and the Dems are both screwing this country up
