I love the musical. First listened to it in the late 80′s as someone in the college dorms had it; then saw the musical over 8 times. Read the unabridged version.

Yours is an interesting take, because I’ve always viewed this more through the liberal lens of class warfare and the romanticism of a group of idealistic students (think liberal indoctrination through universities) wishing to change the world by leading a revolt against the bourgeois.

I do love the spiritual message of God, forgiveness, love, self-sacrifice, and redemption laced throughout the story.

By the way, I meant to mention in this post the fact that the Obama Administration seems to want to strangle the practice of private charity. They are trying to change the rules so that it will be much harder to gain exemptions. The only reason one would want to do that, I think, is because one is trying to gain total government control of the mantile of ‘giving’. Private charity is so bourgeois, after all!
