You know Craig, I honestly haven’t come across all that many Muslims that live here in Wyoming, maybe a half dozen plus their families. I’ve had one Muslim employee, I have a few Muslim customers, and there is a Muslim on my son’s high school wrestling team. None of theme…NONE OF THEM…are anti-American in any way. The young man on the wrestling team holds his hand on his heart and gazes at Old Glory just like everyone else in the gym when the National Anthem is played.

I have a problem with many of Obama’s connections with radical fundamentalists (such as the ones you listed), just like I have problems with his connections with radical socialists, but fabricating connections and quotes that don’t exist just robs credibility from the real arguments against him and his policies.

Yes, there are racial and religious bigots here, and as a country, we have made some horrific choices in the past. Heart Mountain, an WWII internment camp here in Wyoming, is a testament to one of those choices, and it stands as a cold reminder of what happens when we forget who we are, and who our country is made of.

It was a fine line between fighting a war against Japan and fighting a war against Americans of Japanese descent. We crossed that line 60+ years ago, and it damaged us forever. We can’t afford to do that again. As a Canadian, I don’t expect you to understand it. I know my Canadian brother-in-law doesn’t, and he’s lived here for almost five years. You need to set aside some of your hate once in a while and try to understand that while we may be a young country, we have a lot of history in our few short centuries, and it has shaped us in ways that you might not be able to see.

O boy Aye! LOL. He stands so much for them that the first thing he did was to sign a bill to close Gitmo. He will stand with them alright, and even if he said this thing right after 9/11… some of the Muslims arrested concerning the World Trade Center attack are still in Gitmo. First, you cannot create a “play on words” and then attribute it as a direct quote.

That’s dishonest.

Second, you cannot create a “play on words” which distorts the original meaning of the statement, and then present it as a direct quote, in order to make some point.

That’s dishonest too.

Third, and perhaps most important, you need to understand and apply context to the comment in order to understand what BO was saying when he said it.

Here is the complete quote:

“[T]hey need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

Basically, the comment was made in the context of a post 9/11 America when sentiment in this country was very negative toward people from the Middle East in general, Muslims specifically.

Obama was making it clear that if things turned ugly, and there were murmurings of internment camps and such in late 2001, that he would stand with whoever was the target of the roundup, and rightly so.

Finally, even if Obama was speaking of defending Muslims from some renewed internment or oppression effort in this country, would that be the wrong thing to do? I think not. I would stand with him in that effort.

There is absolutely nothing objectionable in either what he said or what he meant by the statement.

This is an ugly Internet rumor that has been spread and allowed to grow for a long time. Unfortunately, there are very few sources which tell the accurate words of the quote and the context in which it was made.

As I’ve said to you several times already, there is a multitude of things, true and accurate things, which a person can use to criticize BO.

There is absolutely no reason, and no excuse, for twisting context or just plain making things up.

You know as well as anyone how I feel about BO but we must, without exception, hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to criticizing him lest we come off as a group of racist or bigoted tinfoil hat wearing wackos living on the far edges of the right wing.

Ummm…. NO.

They may be Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, some other religion, or even non-believers.

The most important thing, and this is what Obama was getting at, is that they are Americans and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect until they do something to lose those rights.

dcat and Always on Watch have reiterated what was on my mind… that in the last few days the news broke that the FBI has cut off relations with CAIR, related to their entanglements with the Muslim Brotherhood [FrontPage Mags June 2007 article]and Hamas.

From CounterTerrorism’s report by Douglas Farah on Jan 30th:

Mary Jacoby of The Investigative Project brings the important news that the FBI, after years of legitimizing CAIR as a mainstream Muslim organization, has finally cut of their dealings with the organization.

This is the first time a part of the government has publicly linked the presence of CAIR in meetings to the government entity’s refusal to attend the meeting. This stand is long overdue, and one that should be followed by other government agencies. The FBI has said it won’t deal with CAIR until “certain issues” are addressed to the FBI’s satisfaction, and must be addressed by the national FBI, not local field offices.

Why? Because CAIR, as has now been amply documented, was formed to support Hamas and has organic ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The Holy Land Foundation documents show this clearly. (For a look at how the package ties together from what is now public evidence, see this NEFA Foundation piece I co-authored.

It is worth recalling how CAIR came into existence, is historical relationships, and what its group of organizations actually said, in their own words, about what they are doing here. This, of course, instigated a Republican generated letter warning other members to Beware of CAIR, and think twice about engaging in meetings with their representatives for official work.

There are ample members of Congress who have cozied up to CAIR over the years. These include Jim McDermott (D-WA), Keith Ellison (D-MN) (the first Muslim elected to Congress, Andre Carson (D-IN), Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), Al Green (D-TX), Nick Lampson (D-TX), Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), and [no surprise here...] Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).

Add to that, my July 2008 post, Do you know where your kids cyber surf? about how the Muslim Brotherhood was going for the youth support to their cause using Facebook. Evidently their quest for propaganda and brainwashing supercedes their disdain for freedom and debate since they are more than happy to use western tools for their cause… but destroy that same freedom when Shariah law takes hold.

Then, of course, yet more uncomfortable six degrees of association… Obama’s “Muslim outreach” campaign advisor was Chicago lawyer Mazen Ashabi, who resigned so that his close relationships with various CAIR offices would not “distract” from Obama’s campaign success.

Then, of course, there is Obama’s legal choice to battle Philip Berg on his eligibility via birth… Joe Sandler.

Joe Sandler was the CAIR lawyer who sent a letter to the Young America’s Foundation in August 2007, threatening them with legal action if they let me [JihadWatch's Robert Spencer] speak to their national student conference. (You can see the letter here.) I spoke anyway (YAF’s Jason Mattera said, “CAIR can go to hell and take their seventy-two virgins with them”), and the threatened lawsuit did not materialize (at least as of this writing, over a year later).

I’d say Pamela Geller over at Atlas Shrugs described Sandler best…

If Mr. Sandler’s name sounds familiar it Should. He is the Legal Hit Man for the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is an organization with terrorist ties, and has been as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holyland Foundation Hamas Funding trial.

Sandler’s role for CAIR has been to stifle people from telling the truth about Islam. For example, last year he tried to get Jihad Expert Robert Spencer banned from speaking to the Young American Foundation, by using a threatening letter. Sandler followed up by threatening columnist Mike Adams for writing about the Spencer incident.

All of this are pieces to a puzzle of how the jihad movement intends to make propaganda in roads in this “third jihad” wave. Some… perhaps like Congress members and a President Obama… may be dupes. When they believe they are lending support for “moderate” and more modern Islam, they are actually dealing with, and aiding the jihad quest for the hearts and minds of the world’s youth.

Battle all they wish, but Shariah law and it’s brutal oppression have no appeal for the young. If they actually succeed in recruiting to their cause, it’s because the youth think they are buying a Ferrari, and not a Ford Pinto.

There are boatloads of things to criticize him over, we don’t need to stoop to making things up.
