I think that the reason for this meeting, and the reason for the lunch that Obama had with W is also the reason that Obama looked so glum today. It is because W briefed Obama about some dire national security secret, which Obama first learned about just before he re-nominated Gates as Defense Secretary. It is because of this impending doom that they are all showing solidarity.

Yeah… Sorta… How tall is the wizened gnome like Jimmie? Is his physical form shrinking as his
soul and spirit continue to shrivel?

Or, is he always looked like this?

Even his fellow-Dem Bill doesn’t want to get too close to Jimmah Dhimma. PE Ob looks a bit uncomfy as well with his hands folded in front of his him. Contrast to the confident stances of the Bushes & Bill.

Nothing out of the ordinary. It happens to all of them. There’s a reason every President since Kennedy has aged at triple the normal rate on taking office, and it has nothing to do with politics. Today it was Obama’s turn to meet the Secret Masters, and learn about The Agenda. All that time and effort to climb to the top, only to learn that the President of the United States is just the head serf on Plantation Earth.

Just you watch: in four years, despite the best medical care the world has to offer, Obama will look like Fred Sanford.

“Anyone notice something odd about the body language in these photos?” (Mike’s America)

I don’t know. Just for fun, I will give it a try.

    In the first photo:

    - Bush Father has his hands in his pockets; he is done with politic and has no regret… “job done” attitude.

    - Bush W. has his two hands hanging down. He is open for either good or bad critics. He did his best and is proud of it. He did it for his country not for his reputation.

    - Carter has one hand in his pocket and the other one hanging down. That usually means confusion and hypocrisy.

    - Clinton has one hand in his pocket in the second photo but seems to have both hands hanging down in the first. On both photos we can only see one of his hands. Who is really Clinton? Could he be a liar?

    - Obama has his two hands together in the first two photos, like if he doesn’t know what to do with them or he is trying to protect himself from something. Maybe he is afraid that the people will finally find the truth about him… lol. That doesn’t look too much like a President attitude.

The only one here that really looks like a President is Georges W. Bush.

Bush elder looks like he has crapped his pants.
Obama is wondering what the hell he has got himself into.
Dubya is trying to figure out where the exit is.
Clinton is thinking on how to replace Obama with Hillary.
Carter looks lost and a bit confused and feeling the ghost of Reagan in the space next to him

  14. So far Gaffa has come the closest to describing the obvious visual evidence of a problem among the group.

Come on folks… it is SOOOO obvious!

Anyone who has ever posed for a family photo should be able to spot it.

You mean everyone staying away from Carter? I know he pissed of Clinton something fierce with his Korea sellout. His badmouthing of Bush didn’t endear him to them.

Also that obama is the only dem wearing a blue tie.

In the first photo, it looks like they cropped Carter into in. His line matches perfectly with the drapes and the corner of the desk.

Of course, that would make perfect sense. Since, I believe Carter died a few years ago but the Democrats wanted to use his image to blast a sitting president. When a president becomes a former president, they are supposed to, by decorum, shut the hell up about the current president. Why would they go around publicly second guessing the sitting president.

Could you image the outrage that would ensue if President Bush did the same?

However, their suits look almost identical.

  22. Jimmy Carter just looks like he plain does not want to be there. In the first picture, not only is he standing far away from the group, but he is getting his hand as far away from Clinton as possible by putting it in his pocket. In the next picture, he again is standing even further away. It just looks like he does not want to be associated with any of the other Presidents.

As Mike alluded to family photos earlier, in a family photo, you gather together as close as possible to all fit in the shot. Carter looks like he is just trying to get away as far as he can and acting like Clinton has cooties or something.

Carter looks like he has contagious Alzheimers, and everyone wants to stay away from him (not that I blame them).

Obama looks like a lost tourist, unsure of the customs of the land he’s in.

I agree with the comment about Bush, Sr: He did his job, and is happy he’s done with it.

Clinton looks like he’s having memories of good times, good times.

Bush looks like he saying to himself: Obama, you beyotch, this will soon be all yours. Enjoy it, suckah!

    @SSFC:
“Just you watch: in four years, despite the best medical care the world has to offer, Obama will look like Fred Sanford.”

This statement literally did make me laugh out loud, and still laughing…what a visual!! :) :)

Well, besides the obvious about Carter being ousted into ‘No Man’s Land’, I also see that Obama is BETWEEN the only 2 Republican presidents…of course, he would be next to President Bush as a symbolic thing of being the incoming…umm…er…it’s hard to say…President. (Whew, got that out there, finally.)

But, another thing I might notice is that are both BO and President Bush the only two wearing flag pins on their lapels? I’m assuming they are both flag pins. I am sure that is what President Bush is wearing, at least!

Craig said: “Bush W. has his two hands hanging down. He is open for either good or bad critics. He did his best and is proud of it. He did it for his country not for his reputation.”

I agree with this, that President Bush made the choices he did out of a duty to do what is right, not what is popular politically. As he said in his commencement speech at Texas A & M in December, President Bush said (and, it’s a personal favorite quote for me now):

“…Second, develop a set of principles to live by — convictions and ideals to guide your course. There will be times when people tell you a different way is more accepted or popular. Remember that popularity is as fleeting as the Texas wind. Character and conscience are as sturdy as the oaks on this campus. If you go home at night, look in the mirror and be satisfied that you have done what is right, you will pass the only test that matters.”

Here’s the speech for those who haven’t seen it, and would like to: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/12/20081212-4.html

Well despite all the battles they fought against each other over the years – I reckon it’s great they can get together like this.

And I will even give credit to Dubya for this comment…

“All of us who have served in this office understand that the office itself transcends the individual”.

My first thought was Obama was guarding his groin.

No flag pins on Clinton or Carter, white shirts except for Clinton and Carter. Obama is to the Right of the Democratic former Presidents and dresses to look more Republican (white shirt, blue tie).

I figure by June Obama should have white hair.

For one thing, it looks to me that both President Bush and his father, former President Bush are much in tune with each other. Both Obama and Carter look sheepish. Our President and his father are gracious and forgiving and by the looks on both their faces, to me, it looks as though they are also in tune with the discomfort of two of their guests. President Clinton’s grin looks like he also might understand what’s going on and is getting a bit of a kick out of it.

My grandmother taught me a good lesson way back in my high school years. A friend stabbed me in the back and I was hurt and angry. She told me, “the more you stir the water, the muddier it gets. What you need to do in this situation is kill her with kindness.” I followed her advice, the kindness shamed my friend and she fessed up and apologized.

Don’t know if that’s how the Bushes handle things, don’t know if President Clinton ever apologized to former President Bush after he became close to him, don’t know if Obama or Carter will ever recognize or apologize for the unnecessary rude and crude things they publicly stated, but, this photo reminds me of my lesson long ago.

There’s another shot (I saw it on CNN’s website) in which Obama and George HW Bush are laughing out loud. I’d LOVE to know the joke they shared…

I thought it very classy of President Bush to host this gathering. Regardless of party affiliation, I’d like to see Presidents make greater use of their predecessors; there are so few persons with whom a President can openly discuss, well, “everything,” and one would think that former Presidents fit that bill nicely.

  35. Interesting to read all the details that others noticed in these photographs (Socal: I didn’t even notice the flag pins).

The most glaring part was how no one wants to be near Carter and he looks like the sour puss he is.

I hadn’t thougth about Obama’s hand placement but now that I do it reminds me of the “O Hole” sign his supporters used to make:

    And it will be interesting to see how the office ages Obama. Here’s a photo of Fred Sanford for reference;

The obvious is that no one wants to stand next to Carter. But, the three guys to the left have dark (or darker) hair (Bush 41, Obama, Bush 43) and Clinton and Carter have white hair.

Skye (#29) – like the “special needs” tag.

SSFC (#6) – the Fred Sanford comparison made me laugh the afternoon away. Good deal.

Cara (#23) – “get your thoughts out of that gutter, young lady!” :) That’s simply his Michael Jackson impression.

Missy (#31) – “For one thing, it looks to me that both President Bush and his father, former President Bush are much in tune with each other. Both Obama and Carter look sheepish.
