obama hasn’t got the experience of ever serving his nation, so how can he expect others to lay their lives down athis ay so. i am not saying you need to be a general to be potus, but at least having an idea about what the service members go through would be helpful in gaining support. its like asking a janitor to oversee the surgery dept at a major medical center.

warp’ed, a rare moment of agreement between us. I have a distrust of polls in general, but even more so of military polls. I tend to believe our service men and women would prefer to remain a’political, and are trained to obey orders of their superiors… no matter who they are, or if they agree.

If they were to harbor opinions that affected their personal situations, I believe they would be more concerned about Pentagon leadership and DOD advisors to the CIC, as it is these individuals who guide their missions with their briefings. It is especially important in a time of active wars, and you have a CIC with nary a lick of military experience or theatre strategy.

Military times trends towards older officers and non-minorities – it says so RIGHT in the article itself. For the election, Obama did ten points better than the Military Times poll done BEFORE the election…

I wouldn’t put too much stock in it…

McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.

The results of the Military Times 2008 Election Poll are not representative of the opinions of the military as a whole. The group surveyed is older, more senior in rank and less ethnically diverse than the overall armed services.

“Without scientific polling – because the Pentagon, which frequently reports on troops’ views on their housing and healthcare, shies away from partisan questions to avoid politicization – researchers are left to rely on anecdotal and voluntary surveys to get a sense of where the military vote is moving.

In Tuesday’s election, 15% of voters were military veterans, and 54% of them voted for John McCain – a 3-point decrease from Bush’s take in 2004, according to the National Election Pool exit poll.”

No wonder. During one of the Democratic Primary debates, the big O said that his job as CIC would be to set military missions. The way he stated it sent a chill through me, and I’ll never be anything other than a civilian.
