(Yahoo) Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The Associated Press that an investigating judge ordered the officials released “because they are innocent” and that there was no evidence that they attempted to restore the Baath party, whose exiled leaders staunchly oppose the current government.

He said 19 were freed from custody and that charges were to be dismissed against the remaining four who were not in custody. Earlier in the day, al-Bolani told reporters that the charges were politically motivated by those trying to undermine the interior ministry.

This is the more immediate problem.

This first little dangerous step of falsely arresting political opponents, and releasing allies can easily lead to finally shooting, bombing, and kidnapping your opponents.

The Right criticized Clinton due to the timing of the cruise missile attacks, NOT for merely doing it.

For Kosovo we had no national security intersts there whatsoever–we did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
We also understood Clinton was within his power as CINC to send troops somewhere without Congressional authorization. The left doesn’t care, so long as a dem is doing it.
