No massive expansion of the poppy crop for export, with the proceeds going to finance terrorism. No chasing Al Qaeda into Pakistan, out of reach and destabilizing the world's only Islamic nuclear power. What precisely did we achieve with the Afghan invasion which could not have been achieved -- perhaps much more successfully, with a hugely augmented intelligence and covert operations budget? I think that the total expenditure for all intelligence agencies is only on the order of $50 billion a year.
