The so called McCain advisors that attacked Palin never existed. It was two online comedians that have been quoted by different media outlets. It’s not like the comedians were pranking the media, they would just go to the website and pick up some quotes.

Another major stories that came from the comedians was that the Hiltons didn’t like Paris Hilton used in a McCain Ads and “Joe the Plumber” was releated to Charles Keating.

  3. To Greg Dittman:

Here’s a quote from the NY Times story you linked, above:

“For its part, Fox News Channel continues to stand behind its story.”

The story didn’t originate from a blog. It originated on Fox New Channel. I was watching when the story broke. It was a Fox on-air reporter, who claimed that he personally got the information from insiders working in the McCain campaign, who wished to remain anonymous.

Fox does acknowledge that the stories were false. There is no mention of Palin’s advisers on their website, just a story where the media was duped. Here is Fox’s news story clearly saying the comic was the source.

“David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a FOX News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.”

  5. Fox did not “acknowledge that the stories were false.” You guys really should read the articles that you cite and to which you link.

The hoax was limited to the identity of the source in the story about Palin — not the FOX News story itself. While Palin has denied that she mistook Africa for a country, the veracity of that report was not put in question by the revelation that Eisenstadt is a phony.
