I don’t even know how to correct that one, because it is a nightmare. Having served in the Marines, I can attest to the fact that they do not require you to be IN IslamIC religions. If you are deployed to the Middle East, then you might be exposed to them, however.

I’d like to point out that the fact that something you said was proved to be a total lie made you believe it even more.
It’s OK. It’s a natural reaction of the brain called cognitive dissonance. Your mind was forced to hold two thoughts in focus at the same time — “This story reinforces my instinctual prejudices” and “This story was false, therefore my prejudices might be false”. You were forced to choose between reason and your current world view, and your brain chose the status quo — ignorance. And not only that, to overcome the discomfort of the dissonant situation, it gave you a big shot of endorphins, just like the brain will release endorphins when you are in physical pain.
So what ended up happening here was that the ignorant, incorrect belief got strengthened by the process of you realizing that it was incorrect. Amazing how the brain works, right?
If you’re a rational, decent person, you need to do something about it. It happens to us all, but at least if you’re aware of how the brain works you can change yourself. Tony Robbins (a pretty Republican guy, in case you think psychology is just for moonbats and hippies) talks a lot about how the mind will seek pleasure and avoid pain at all costs, and the trouble that it gets us into. I’d highly recommend you pay attention to your mind choosing ignorance over new information. I think it could make you a much happier, more aware, more intelligent person.
