The hard Left wants us to be a less powerful, less industrialized poorer nation. They want us to give up our cars for buses. They want us to wash our dishes by hand and dry our clothes in the wind. They want us to do this, not them. Al Gore isn’t giving up his big house, his SUV, his private airplane flights, or his new boat to live the way he wants us to live.

Obama wants to take Exxon-Mobile’s profits and give them away. Has he set the example by giving away his riches?

The Lefties of the world want to diminish the power of the United States. Then they want to destroy the power of Western civilization. They want to destroy Capitalism. They want absolute equality for all. Except for the leaders, of course... Just like Communist China and Communist Russia.

NIGHTMARES OF HIS FATHER

see, also, this more in depth analysis, where the connection between Obama's COMMUNIST FATHER, and how he perceives himself, is established.

Barack Obama organized his life on the ideals given to him by his Kenyan father. Obama tells us, "All of my life, I carried a single image of my father, one that I .. tried to take as my own." (p. 220) And what was that image? It was "the father of my dreams, the man in my mother's stories, full of high-blown ideals .." (p. 278) What is more, Obama tells us that, "It was into my father's image .. that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself." . . . . (p. 230)

So we know that his father's ideals were a driving force in his life, but the one thing that Obama does not give us are the contents of those ideals.

If you read on there, you will find that those "ideals," which he so loves because they were his father's, are Marxist Communist "ideals."

THAT is the "change" he wants to bring to America, and that is a "change" I hope not even most of his supporters would want, if Obama would ever be honest enough to tell them the truth (apparently unlike his father, who used to write and speak openly about his beliefs).

>>the answer is still in the creation of wealth at all levels>>

Creation of wealth doesn't do you any good if you can't keep it. The right to own private property, and the need to prosecute corruption by making _all_ citizens subject to the law is what the world needs to eliminate poverty. Primarily. If you could wave your wand and establish those two things, it would be possible to work on the rest. Until you have those two things, there will be nothing other than injustice and poverty.

Pyromancer76,

You're close to being right about the problem of overpopulation, but you didn't quite hit the nail on the head. Actually, there are plenty of resources in the world to feed, house, and medicate each and every person alive. The problem lay in the distribution of the resources, not the quantity. And, as we conservatives know, the only way to distribute resources effectively is through free trade and capitalism.

We have to be very careful about forced population control, wherever in the world it is targeted, for whatever reason. It sounds to much like eugenics, and we all know where that led.
Population control would fall right into line with the plans of UNESCO to move populations into 'urban pods' surrounded by lightly populated 'buffer zones' in order to return the Rocky Mountain West and the High Plains to 'Pre-Columbian' population levels, and creating a uninterrupted 'migration corridor' through North America from North to South. Sounds like a conspiracy, I know, but a little research (or a lot) through the U.N. files reveals this generational plan. (I may have to write an article about it soon)

No, the answer is still in the creation of wealth at all levels, and that doesn't mean the redistribution of wealth. Wealth is only created by trade and investment.

I am delighted that Conservatives are highlighting the real science of climate and global changes and giving a space where skeptics' views to AGW and its clones can be read and shared. Curt's essay is excellent and a reminder that engineering behavior for the purposes of the state (or religion) is totalitarian, whether fascistic or communistic.

A related issue I wish Conservatives would address is one that I believe is the largest contributor to a messed-up, unlivable planet -- way too many people needing and using way too many resources, and way too many people absolutely impoverished or living under tyranny. One of the biggest problems for our world is the increasing number of nations that are becoming dysfunctional and thuggish partly because of a run-away birth rate, often due to religious beliefs -- Catholic and Muslim. I suggest that the US close its borders to immigrants from all countries whose population increases are more than 2.1 children per couple, the number for replacement of the population. (This action would take care of Mexican immigration -- let that country solve its own problems) And the US can encourage all more affluent nations to assist those that wanted to decrease their population rate to 2.1. This assistance would be in the form of providing opportunity, e.g., education for all children (no child labor), education for girls (women get to have the tools for their own self-support), monogamy, economic opportunity for all, skilled trade apprenticeships and entrepreneurial training, sustainable farming and farming methods suitable to the environment.

None of this would be easy, but it seems to me this would go a long way toward conserving the earth's resources, enabling ecological sensitivity, preserving energy supplies for future generations, maintaining some pristine wilderness, as well as providing a model of a way of life that does not become ever more brutal, thuggish, and short.

I cannot see any solutions (to many of the problems that I believe, in the kindest interpretation, are reflective of leftists' anxieties that emerge as theories of anthropogenic GW or climate change or lack of oxygen) without some kind of encouragement for people to live "reasonable lives."

I read Flopping Aces and other Conservative blogs each day and am very grateful for the information and opinions. Thanks

I suggest that the US close its borders to immigrants from all countries whose population increases are more than 2.1 children per couple, the number for replacement of the population. (This action would take care of Mexican immigration — let that country solve its own problems) And the US can encourage all more affluent nations to assist those that wanted to decrease their population rate to 2.1.

None of this would be easy, but it seems to me this would go a long way toward conserving the earth’s resources, enabling ecological sensitivity, preserving energy supplies for future generations, maintaining some pristine wilderness, as well as providing a model of a way of life that does not become ever more brutal, thuggish, and short.

I cannot see any solutions (to many of the problems that I believe, in the kindest interpretation, are reflective of leftists’ anxieties that emerge as theories of anthropogenic GW or climate change or lack of oxygen) without some kind of encouragement for people to live “reasonable lives.”

I read Flopping Aces and other Conservative blogs each day and am very grateful for the information and opinions. Thanks
