Actually, I believe I read elsewhere that Russia would be required to abstain from a vote under the article which covers such a resolution. They do still have a veto under the article (article 7?) which covers any actual sanctions/military responses (naturally, this is the UN after all).

As one of Obama’s constituents, I’ve been well aware of his horrible stance on abortion and his even more horrible stance on the born alive act that he did not allow to get out of committee. It’s interesting that public interest is now starting to percolate on this issue. I wonder what evangelical polling will look like when they are presented with the cold, ugly facts about how the messiah could give a darn about the innocent babies that manage to survive abortions, babies that were left to die in dirty utility rooms. He listened to the testimony of nurses that experienced the tragic loss of life regarding these babies but, because of the support he gets from NARAL, it’s too bad, so sad. Babies can’t vote.

Fascinating and educational “Jonah” post, Doug. Thanks. Ah the twisted and convoluted UN Articles…. But it’s all moot, IMHO.

Everyone and anyone can “call” on Russia and the UNSC to do the right thing, despite Russia’s status as a G8 member. However Russia is a major oil producer, exporter and crucial player in the global petroleum market. And the Europeans find themselves in the same position as the the US with the Middle East – dependent upon them for a high degree of their basic necessities in life.

So my personal opinion is the UN and NATO will do what they do best… nothing.

On ABC’s “This Week,” Richardson, auditioning to be Barack Obama’s running mate, disqualified himself. Clinging to the Obama campaign’s talking points like a drunk to a lamppost, Richardson said that this crisis proves the wisdom of Obama’s zest for diplomacy and that America should get the U.N. Security Council “to pass a strong resolution getting the Russians to show some restraint.” Apparently Richardson was ambassador to the United Nations for 19 months without noticing that Russia has a Security Council veto.

Well… you know… all liberals are simpletons, incapable of thinking beyond step 1 of a problem. I always enjoy the stupidity from the left. “International Agreements” is the battle cry, but agreements are only good if the countries follow them. Example, China’s agreement to patent and copyright rules. They signed several “international agreements”, but I can still pick up pirated copies of nearly anything in China. China also signed the Kyoto Protocol, but they have a “mist” problem.
