Then when the jury finds him innocent because lack of Miranda rights, lack of evidence collected a and contaminated crime scene, alas, no tape, he can live happily ever after with Marion. Reminder, we have soldiers, not policemen fighting this war.

Second, even a brainwashed 15 year old has to have a clue that if he shows up on a battlefield and kills a soldier, something untoward just might happen to him.

Third, perhaps you can get a deal on bullet proof vests and the dead bolts you’re going to need for all your doors if you buy in quantity. Picture a warm and charming family meal with Omar, the bulked up family and the knives missing from the place settings.

First: I’m not saying Chris Speer deserved to die, I’m sure he was a lovely man. But when you go to fight, there is always a risk that you might not come back. If you don’t want that risk, then don’t go. I’m not saying he wasn’t a hero, or that he didn’t matter, but if we were to prosecute every single person who had ever killed a soldier in battle, all the jails in the world would be chock-a-block full of war criminals.
Second: In the USA, there is a basic principle of justice – INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. What evidence do you – or anyone – have that Omar did it? No matter what someone’s past crimes may be, you cannot punish someone for something they did not commit, or something you cannot prove they committed.
Third: Even if Omar did do it, he was a child soldier! I blame his father more than anything else, because he was the one who put all the crap about suicide bombing and martyrdom into his head. There is a HUGE difference between a 15-year-old murderer in the USA who shoots someone. In that case, the person would probably know exactly what they were doing, and would not have been coerced by anyone. Omar was brought up to honour suicide bombers and he was taught to kill. If he did do it, then he would have been taught to do it – and all that other stuff you talk about, like planting landmines. He probably thought it was normal, because his father taught him it was normal. If he had been brought up in Canada, which is not a war zone, he probably wouldn’t have done it.
Fourth: The guards at Guantanamo Bay who guard him have said he is ‘salvagable’. Not the words I would use, but it implies that if he is rehabilitated, as the law requires for child soldiers, then he could lead a long productive life. But if he is kept in jail, he could end up getting angrier and angrier, and if he is let out without rehab, the consequences could be devastating?
Fifth (and final thing): To the person who posted this, what’s with dissing the liberals? If you had been forcibly separated from your family for years, I’ll bet you’d have been crying too! It’s not just the liberals that get a little weepy, you know! They may not be perfect, but there have been some great liberal prime ministers! nd I would much rather be ruled by a ‘bleeding heart liberal’ than a cold-hearted conservative like Stephen Harper, who is an embarrassment to Canada.

Hypocrisy of the “Repatriate Omar Khadr to Canada” Movement

As soon as the Gitmo interrogation tape of Omar Khadr hit the Internet, the blogosphere was flooded with demands to repatriate him to Canada. This wave is reminiscent of a Soviet campaign to free Luis Corvalán from the “fascist regime” of Augusto Pinochet thirty five years ago. The scenario is strikingly similar. A “victim” held by “fascist regimes” this time run by Bush and Harper, and a public outcry for justice. Except for the fact that Luis Corvalán didn’t kill anyone and didn’t fight for a terrorist group that wants to impose Sharia.

The “repatriate Khadr” crowd describes him as “a child”, “a kid”, “a boy”, and even “a torture victim”, with no facts to substantiate the torture claims notwithstanding. They complain about Khadr being mistreated, again, without anything to back up their claims. Some of them are outraged about “child abuse.” And they all scream for justice.

They want justice? OK, let’s talk about JUSTICE. What about justice for Sgt. First Class Christopher J. Speer, who was (according to an eyewitness) murdered by this “child”? What about justice for Tabitha Speer, who is a widow because of this “kid”? What about justice for Taryn and Tanner Speer, who are left without a father by this “a boy”? And what about all those Afghani civilians and NATO troops who are a little bit safer because this “torture victim” is behind bars? How many of these “repatriate Khadr” hypocrites concern themselves with justice for real victims? In literally hundreds of posts, we couldn’t find a single one.

One would ask, what is the reason for this idiocy? The answer is simple. Ignorance. Complete and utter ignorance. Let’s forget for a second that Omar Khadr killed Christopher Speer. Let’s forget that Khadr’s father was an al Qaeda financier. Let’s forget that Khadr’s family is known for it being al Qaeda sympathizers. Let’s just remember what this “child” was fighting for in Afghanistan.
