Scott,
No arguement from me dude! Your right on the money. Oil is life. Period. I do not know which group is more naive and ignorant in thier beliefs. Those who use patriotic statements to justify the mass murders of millions of people, or those who continue to condone our politicans worthless words of "action in the near future".
I will read the article you mentioned. If I can find it. I have read and seen some of the most heartbreaking pictures and real life film clips that I could not even imagine.

Our leaders preach and preach how the Holocaust will never be allowed to happen again.
Who are they talking too? Its happening right now. And has been for years now.

Back in WWII many people knew what was happening to not only the jews, but people of other religions, homosexuals, hetrosexuals, and anybody who was deemed as "a threat to the NAZI's.
The Pope knew it, our government knew near the end, and most of the world knew the dirty little secret. And when it over, the governments around the world provided protection to many of the men and women who actually helped to murder millions of people. Sure they tried a few, and stretched their necks. But the majority of the killers were allowed to go free. They claimed that the "needs of the many outwieghed the needs of the few". That the killers were needed to provide intelligence for the free World. What in Gods name is a few? 17 sailors? Or nine million people? I don't really think numbers mean a thing to politicians. It all boils down to if they will lose their careers.

And then we have the wacko Pol Pot. I might have spelled the name wrong. But i am sure you know who I mean. He murdered millions of his own people and was allowed to live out his life in peace.

My point. Always the same old story. Over and over. yet there will always be the supporters of our leaders who make excuses for their disgusting and shameful lack of action in all these and more mass murders. It appears that many Americans are more worried about their man or woman being in office to do nothing, instead of the real issues. I just don't get it. Everyday we hear the lip service of how important each and every human life is. But when millions are being murdered nothing is done. Always an excuse not to do nothing.

And in the end. I think those who are realists know exactly what the future holds for us and our children. Our nation will have to start taking the oil by force. Other nations will do the same thing as it becomes more scarce. All the feel good talk in the world will not stop that from happening. The 3rd world nations do not give a damn about conserving fuel. They want what we got for themselves. Who can blame them? And from a pragmatic point of view, why don't our leaders just get a head start. Look at Mother Russia. Putin is already setting up oil producing countries for himself. he is no fool. And many Americans will keep on driving the SUV's and playing with all their gas guzzling toys to the bitter end. "use it till you lose it!"

Thanks Gary. Sudan...Ethiopia...Africa in general...man, I gotta tell ya, I read that April issue of National Geographic which detailed how their reporters were "arrested" by the SLA. They gave first hand accounts of the prison there.

Let me say this, in all of my years of reading history, I have never EVER read anything more disgusting, disturbing, and shameful. When Ivan the Terrible was tossing animals etc off the top of the Kremlin, it was nothing compared to what happens in Africa. The Holocaust...nothing compared to the horrors there-NOTHING. Anyone who doubts it or questions my claim MUST read "Into The Sahel" in National Geographic's April 08 edition. Do not eat first, and have tissues handy. It's awful.

And you're right of course about no oil=no involvement, but I think there's some hair-splittin' to do on the strategery. Oil=money, but it also=life. We cannot live w/out oil Hippies and nature freaks would love to live on solar or get back to nature etc., but it ain't reasonable. I want to see major cuts in wastage etc., but it's the 3rd world, India, China, and even Europe that do as much or more to the environment than the US. No, we need oil not just for our cars, but for the tractors and combines that produce food, for the equipment that makes anything and everything-even this PC and monitor. Oil=life. It were just about moola, then the world woulda flooded into Africa for its resources (see also diamonds) in the 1990's. Instead, it got blown off.

Africa..."sad" doesn't do the description justice. "Hell" is closer

And all because "actionable intelligence" still means "enough proof that we have to take action or our careers would suffer"

A well written post. What is a shame is that our political leaders from both parties do care more about the political fallout from their decisions than the whatever the the problem is that is staring them in the face. I love it when a politician screams: "We have a responsiblility to do something!" And they do nothing but talk, and more talk with half hearted measures that were doomed to failure from the get go. And I think this attitude has become so entrenched in Washington that they now use it on other nations leaders who are really nothing but murderers in a expensive suit. (Sometimes dressed in local custom gear) Case in point. Why in Gods name is the Bush administration talking to the so called President of the Sudan? Over 200,000 people starved, killed, raped, etc... and still counting. Not to mention the displaced with no homes now.Something like 2.5 million! One reason only. Hes got oil for sell. The same with Libya, Oil.
And Yemen? I guess its the airspace. And the PA in the Gaza Strip? Who knows?

I know its for the Greater Good!!! Or a million must starve to save two million right? Its sickening is what it is. And no amount of pretty words, and patriotic sayings will make it right. We need to sweep em all out of Washington!

Scott: What was the date of the Charlie Gibson interview with Obama?

As for <i>"OBAMA: And it is important for us to rebuild a nuclear nonproliferation strategy, something that this administration, frankly, has ignored, "</i> he's got to be kidding.

The Bush Administration has been holding the UN's feet to the fire to do something on nuclear proliferation.

Who was it that got Pakistan to bust A. Q. Khan? Tinkerbell?

Who was it that packed up the Libyan nuke equipment and shipped it to Oakridge?

The Bush Administration understands most clearly that in order to prevent the nightmare mushroom cloud scenario you have to prevent rogue nations from acquiring the technology and industrial base necessary to produce bomb materials.

Obama, on the other hand, would go bludering into Pakistan pushing that nation into civil war and losing it as an ally. NOT SMART!

Some people are willing to rely on the good graces of Syria and Iran and N Korea. In the meantime, risking that a major city like NY, LA, Chicago, Houston, Miami, etc... doesn't become a big smoking hole in the ground. They foolishly think you can compromise with evil. You cannot compromise with evil any more than a band-aid will cure cancer.
